i can't install my magic to my Win XP !!pls help!! - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi I m following the "xda-developer wiki" on Sapphire Hacking for installing new ROM, from my understanding of the wiki is i can install the ROM first and root my magic afterwards
i m up2 the stage on using ADB to check my USB drivers correctly, when i typed "adb devices" it didnt show any devices and i check my system->device manager my magic is not install correctly
from the wiki it suggest to edit the "driver's .ini file", where can i find it and how do i edit it?
another method they suggest is to use the HTC Sync from:
w_w_w.htc.com/au/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=573&news_id=169
but its not available anymore (can't see the "download" link)
my magic is:
PVT 32B S-ON G
HBOOT 1.33.0007
radio 2.22.19.261
please help
thanks.

Why: Your computer has detected your phone but as a protable device and as a storage device.
Fix: This took me a lot of research and time to figure out so this is what your are going to do.
First download USBDeview - Here
Unzip it
Run USBDeview.exe as Administrator
You will see all drivers being used on your computer
Highlight and Uninstall all drivers with the description have HTC Android (Should be 3 of them)
Right Click on the driver and press uninstall
Once done, Unplug your phone and plug it back in
You should now get the notification of the ADB device
Follow the steps above to install the drivers

thanks ayush20m
i actually able to correctly install my magic now
i have to d/l the usb driver from the SDK (actually it automatically updates the files when i run it again)
after that my magic can install correctly
i can now communicate to it in cmd ... but its late now ... so i'll check out other steps tomorrow

i have same issue tried above but even with adb installed still no connection

Totally lost and confused...

Okay so i am a noob to android, but not noob to rom flashing. i used to flash my TYTN II with the good ol duttys. But i can't figure out this android. I have the google ION (the mytouch but unlocked) and I can't figure out how to push 1.6 donut to it, or cyanogen mod. I read and read an reread all the wikis still no help. I downloaded relentless rooter but can't get it to work 100% either.
Can someone please guide me step by step as in even how to install all the stuff from the sdk? either how to push 1.6 or how to push cyanogen.
Im not sure if it works on 32A but google "one click root"
Is the google Ion not 32b?
use this tut http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking
ya i read that wiki over and over and after downloading android sdk 1.5 rev 3 or 1.6 i can't even figure out how to install stuff. basically i need baby steps to set up. once i am set up and going i shouldn't have a problem. I am running virtual xp and its recognizing the "android phone" with the drivers from relentless rooter.
first thing is to shut down press back+power you should have 3 androids on skateboards
give us all the info at the top
with phone on and at your home screen
Enable Debugging mode on the phone before connecting to PC and installing the ADB driver
Menu > Settings > Applications > Developement > USB Debugging
this is my sdk setup
Android SDK Tools
you only ever access the tools folder so make it easy for yourself

if it detects your phone its a good start lol

I couldnt get the drivers and abd to run on my comp.......... this thread helped out alot. I had ABD running in 10 minutes with this.
so download a recovery rom
Use the H if your Magic is HTC branded (PVT 32A board)/
Use the G Google branded (PVT 32B board, or if you have an HTC Dream).
http://rapidshare.com/files/270340566/recovery-RAv1.2.1H.img
http://rapidshare.com/files/270340567/recovery-RAv1.2.1G.img
put the file inside the sdk tools folder and reboot phone to fastboot (back+power)
then open cmd and navigate to your sdk tools folder and use the fastboot program
C:\Users\Simon\s\tools>fastboot boot recovery-RAv1.2.1G.img
press enter
as you can see i have a 32b board because i'm using the g.img file
your phone will reboot to a black with green writing screen first thing is to got to
'nandroid backup'
and backup your current system
restart
copy your rom to root of sdcard restart to fastboot screen then
C:\Users\Simon\s\tools>fastboot boot recovery-RAv1.2.1G.img
press enter
select the opt for the 'choose .zip' option
you might have to wipe but try without before
but remember to nandroid backup
Thank you guys, I will try this today!

ADB not working

Hi,
I'm following the instructions for how to prepare my Magic to load a new ROM from the Wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking) but I'm having problems with ADB not recognising the device.
If I boot into Fastboot mode, and use fastboot devices my phone is listed, but adb devices returns no results.
1) is it necessary to have adb working?
2) If so, any suggestions as to why it's not?
I've followed the instructions to the letter so far, and I'm worried that my phone might be a pre-production model (I review phones for a magazine - I want to try new ROMs so I can report on the new features in 1.6 and later as they come out.)
When booted normally, in Device Manager under Device Instance Path I see:
USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C02&MI_01\6&29B48A3A&0&0001
Dunno if this helps, but the Wiki says something about changing the driver .ini file - I can't find this .ini file either, where would I look?
BTW I'm running Windows 7 release.

I had this problem and what I had to do was:
be sure no USB drives/memory cards were connected
connect the phone
uninstall USB Mass storage device from device manager under usb controllers
disconnect/reconnect the phone
install the driver from the sdk/usb_driver folder
Thanks, but...
I tried this, but still not luck with adb. I now see a new "ADB Interface" section in Device Manager, and an "HTC Dream Composite ADB Interface" device underneath, but adb devices command still returns no devices.
Sorted!
Well, I'm not sure how but I managed to get it to work, and am now the proud owner of a Magic running Cyanogen mod

adb with 2 Magics doesnt work.

Can somebody pleas help us? of is a way or not , because is stressfull to waith for a message
What is easier than trying to downgrad is useing exploid exploit
Here is a draft of the steps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=User:Ezterry/G1_1.6_To_Custom_Firmware
I made it in a rush so clean if need be.. but don't completely re-write if you want to do that post elsewhere.
As for the problem with downgrading is the files are only intended for US/UK dreams and you don't have one of those..
however my steps above are probably also safer for those with said dreams.. since it tries to avoid the brick potential with dangerSPL
Now i have been trying that link, but i cant go forward from step 3
run the following adb commands:
* adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals/exploid
* adb push flash_image /sqlite_stmt_journals/flash_image
* adb push recovery-RA-dream-v1.7.0-cyan.img /data/local/recovery-RA-dream-v1.7.0-cyan.img
* adb push spl_1_33_2003.zip /sdcard/spl_1_33_2003.zip
* adb shell chmod 755 /sqlite_stmt_journals/exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals/flash_image
* adb shell /sqlite_stmt_journals/exploid

Unless you give details I'm not sure how you expect anyone to help
"It doesn't work" could mean:
1) adb/fastboot isn't properly installed on your computer
2) you are not running adb from the directory with the files
3) you are making a typo in the command line (or I made a typo in the commands in that document.. unlikely but not impossible)
4) phone doesn't have USB debugging enabled or is not plugged into the computer
5) Your USB port on the phone is fired.
Ok i think the first adb running and the 2cond I think? How can i running that adb ?

Try either the xda thread for adb/fastboot/sdk or the adp1 developer site
wiki page said:
Install ADB/Fastboot
For this to work I expect that you have adb/fastboot installed on your computer and understand that adb/fastboot commands are entered into your computer; not the phone
The XDA thread on setting this up is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719 Otherwise additional information is on the htc adp site: http://developer.htc.com/adp.html#s2

Many windows users find it easiest to put the files in the tools directory with adb. That said I'm primarily OSX and set up the path to allow me to access the commands anywhere.
I have been trying to install adb but i dont have the SDK Setup.exe file!
2cond thing that i see is
that
Things you need:
Android SDK - Download
Winrar - Download (32bit) Download (64bit)
Windows PC
USB Cable
A Rooted HTC Dream (Google G1)
I dont have a rooted HTC Dream
That line lies; adb is used by developers on non rooted devices all the time..
the setup is the windows drivers..
Questions about adb *if* posted in the adb thread will be read by many more windows users that may be able to help.
You don't need to pm if you are asking the question in this thread.
I thing
I have the problem that i cant downgrade i have been 1 month trying to downgrade my g1 no lukky!:S
Try downgrading to RC7.....instead of RC29.
I had DRC93 (Dutch G1) and I followed the follwing link step by step
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=727688
remember to use RC7
.....mine is working perfectly
