lol this thread is a win.
I need a forum with a search, similiar to google.......
oh wait!
I have search and am not finding it either. Once I find it do I just push the file to the hero and as I use it set the defaults? Is that all there is too it? Does it work on fresh 2.0d?
My rom ic3rom has it.

I NEED a hole in my head.
There's Contacts.apk... I'm not sure where you get that from. Might wanna dig around the 2.1 vanilla builds. I'm poking around there for the Phone.apk because launching "Phone" via Contacts when I hit the Phone button on my Rosie takes me to the call log which is just a bit bothersome.
However, I've broken something or other adding the Phone.apk to /system/app so be careful. I'll fix it eventually. Lol. But it being broken doesn't much bother you. If it's gonna be a bother or you know you won't be able to fix something you break... don't break it. Lol.

That AOSP Dialer to attached is for Android 2.1. Sprint 1.56.651.2 is still on Android 1.5...
Is there an apk available somewhere for this? I've done some searches on the forum and can't find it, unless I should be searching somewhere other than this sub forum... Please help a somewhat n00b.
That's the best dialer...

Is there anyway to do this?ive tried puching the apps and extra lib.so files in but no joy? Would i need to edit the manifest files?
I mean the apps and NOT the widgets
Good luck w/ this.
I've tried to directly push applications from HERO port builds on several occasions, using different methods.
I wanted HTC Peep, tried to push it with ADB, etc. NO GOOD!
I wanted Footprints, tried to push it as well, also NO GOOD!
Along with the Flash Player and numerous others. Typically, as I'm sure you're aware, the application is quite ingrained within the firmware or build version; making it difficult to find a way to force it to function properly elsewhere.
I'm no expert. However, this might be a lost cause depending on which applications you're wanting to give a shot.
Good luck boss.
Thanks for the response i was starting to think it is worth posting in development and risk a ban! Rather than wait for a response here.
Mainly i want to get the HTC Weather app onto a cyanogen ROM.Just because i find it alot more accurate than any on the market, Plus the look of it from my old blackstone god rest her soul.
Has anyone tried porting parts of magic to hero?

Sorry was on my friends comp and forgot o sign myself in
sadly to say a lot of the apps on hero are used and or deeply apart of rosie.apk. Thus meaning its pretty much reliant on rosie unless extracted the right way without rosie. The framework for rosie is so compiled so complex i get confused lol. If we can destroy it and build it from pebbles then maybe, Till then, the apps belong to rosie. sorry.... fosho. . . .
Erm...what's Rosie?

Just wondering if anybody has tried to get a Sprint Moment rom to work on Hero? (following the thread of making Hero a vanilla Android )
PS.. JBQ announced that he released some of the android 2.0 source code.
Thanks

Why not just delete SenseUI? Im pretty sure that would be a lot easier.
There is absolutely nothing in the Moment to warrant doing the work

If that were possible -- including getting rid of all the bloat HTC added to the dialer, People app, etc. -- I would do it in a heartbeat, myself. As it is, completely stripping SenseUI has proven to be impossible.
Try this - Kill the Sense process, delete all the data for HTC Sense in applications/settings. Hit the home key and see if you can set "Home" as the default.
After that - root the ***** and kill off the bloat using the guides posted here

I'm pretty sure you could remove enough of it, or else the gutted ROM wouldn't be on here....
interesting. I want the DivX/Avi support the Moment has.

That would have been nice, but i already re-coded all the media i wanted on my phone. I just used Visual Hub's(Mac program, btw) default settings for the iPhone and they look great.

Are you a dev ?
LOL it was just a request.
someone might like it enough to port it
but good luck with that..
those apps will not work for us, and besides your asking for somthing illegal.... like the taco man said if you want them than port them yourself. not trying to be mean but i dont think anyone is going to port those for you.

I wish it was easier to make a ROM. I've tried looking around to figure it out, but its tough. There are some really nice ROMs out there, but nothing that is exactly like what I want (and I'm sure others feel the same). The resources are out there, but it takes a lot of digging and it's not all that easy to understand.
its not really all that hard to grab a rom unpack it add what you want to /data/app/ than repack and resign.
Look around for signing tools, if your on windows you can use this.
Did i read it wrong ? I thought he wanted those apps removed...
But I definitley want to start learning how to start cooking roms ...... but i know nothing aboutdoing it ....so i am reading and reading and reading........
I tried porting a Rom but it wouldn't boot. its a lot harder than I thought as well.

The HTC Widgets and Android Widgets are all together like the newer Eclair builds
I have a stock N1 and my app seems to work fine on there..
But when the first person downloaded the app he said it failed on the EVO which is most likely running sense UI.
So it is a matter of trying to find someone with a sense ui phone and asking them to test?
or
Is there a way i can have a sense ui emulator run through eclipse?
I don't think there is a sense ui emulator for eclipse sorry Maybe root and try a sence rom

How can i give up stock for a sense rom!!
Maybe some of you who are kind and willing to help can test the app for me. Without leaving comments or ratings unless it works
It's available via the market, just search SMS Safe
It's basically an app that hides your SMS messages behind a password.
Ill try it for you but I searched the market n couldn't find it so can you juss post it r sumtin

thats strange.. not sure why sorry.
Maybe someone else can shed some light.. i did specify english and a whole bunch of other locales.
Maybe its my phone I read some stuff about how the market is filtered for different phones not sure if its true but if it is that could b it

I just tested it on a Desire running Froyo and Sense and it works fine.
It's true that the market filters apps, mainly based on the capabilities your app requests. For example, if your app requests access to GPS services, it will not appear in the market for anyone using a phone without GPS.
Check your app manifest.

Thank you very much, maybe i should limit it to medium sized screens only for now.
Tested on EVO running a 2.2 sense rom. I didn't really mess around with it too thoroughly as I have no need for such an app, but figured I'd give it a quick try out to give you some feedback as far as sense goes and it seems to be working fine

Thanks mate, sounds good. Will prob just need to add small screen support then.
Any way to put this on CM7? I know its probably incorporated into Rosie, but I thought I would ask the smart ones anyway.

most of HTC stock .apks require the HTC Sense framework. It's very unlikely to get it working correctly.

Its just not gonna happen. Sorry. sense is closed source. If htc would open up the source, we could do all sorts of amazing things, but we got nothing until they do.
I was playing with this .apk last night, I couldn't even edit the .pngs. After pushing it back to the phone, it just disappears as a widget. .. What a bummer
