Hi all
Ive had my htc hd2 since nov on Vodafone
ive been through all the official rom releases right up till 1.72 just released on voda
but nothing has changed and i find it boring just waiting on these little fixes
I have HSPL installed
all i need is the best version of WM 6.5.3
Please please please be kind enough and point me in the right direction of good rom experience
Cheers
As people look for different things in a rom, and as we all install our own little tweaks and apps, the experience can be different for each person. Go to the threads at the top of the forum listing as these are the most current/popular and read the last 10 pages or so of posts - that will give you an idea of bugs being experienced. Look at the screenshots on the first page and then try a few for yourself to see what roms best suit your needs.
okay i hear you
I just wanted something stable but with most of the lastest featured tabs
Ive been reading just now there seem alot to choose from
hopefully the installs are as simple as the normal rom updates
apologies you expert must get this all the time
try smaberg's and dutty's they both have a great rom

No worries bud, you can try my favourite, linked in my signature below . I like these roms, but as I said roms are personal to a large extent and each chef has their ardent fans all claiming that their chefs roms are the best. The only real way to get an objective view is to try a few and decide for yourself.

I was just considering that rom - is this a 6.5.3 version ?
Theres also
two download vesions to choose from
Energy.Leo.21898.Sense2.5.Cookie.HomeTab.Apr.14.7z 168.3Mb
Energy.Leo.23557.Sense2.5.Cookie.HomeTab.Apr.14.7z 168.6Mb
The 23557 rom is a 6.5.5 rom.
23557 is WM 6.5.x
take a look here - I did cook a version of this before moving onto the Desire:

It's just a different development branch from 6.5.3. It will work on your phone - just ensure that you flash either the 2.07.50 or 2.08.50 radio otherwise the device will hang on the White HTC boot screen.

The OEM ROM that came preinstalled on my HD2!!
I've had no issues with it so far. Very happy with my device.
I don't think this poll is representative without having the stock rom as an option on it.
If you are not keen on the stock rom then you should change your post title to read "What Cooked Rom Do You Use".
WB
I use the original rom!
I agree. I'm also on the stock ROM.
Nice poll, maybe it could help me choose which cooked rom i should flash
I agree - the stock rom should be included as most people are still happy with it.
And I'm using the stock rom. Although I am tempted.....
I use the Stock Rom!
More than good enough for my needs no performance issues and none of the 'cooked' roms offer anything significant for my needs.
First theres a ROM section of the forum
Second there's no option for Stock, which is what I'm sticking too
I'm new to the flashing ROM scene, all my previous phones being Nokia. So this might seem like a n00b question, but is there a post that compares between these ROMs? I'd like to go through the strengths of different ROMs before I flash.

You're in the right post, look on message #6, which will inform you about Windows version (6.5/6.5.3), Sense version and ROM (& drivers) version. It's a beginning which will help you to choose a ROM.
You have to choose a WinMo version. There's two choices : Windows Mobile 6.5 or Windows Mobile 6.5.3.x
You have to choose an HTC (Sense & drivers) version : stock version (1.48), 1.61 or 2.02.
Next, choose you ROM considering to this items. I can help you for your choice, giving you a ROM list, if you give me your choices (1-2).
the poll is lol. no option for stock rom an no option for "my rom" (literally).
Xannytech?
I personally think that stock roms should be considered - at this stage many prefer 1.61 over the cooked ones. this is looking like a disguised 'which is best' thread
Yeah - I agree. I'm still on a stock ROM and won't be changing any time soon. We need an option on this poll for that.

New Questions here, old one at the bottom.
hi and thanks to everyone for your answers... you helped me a lot.
but:
I tried various 6.5 and 6.5.3 roms and found a lot of bugs in all of them... and that's not really my style. I want to go back to stock firmware 6.1 and there are not many options (or maybe i wasn't able to find them). Where can i find the Stock Firmware section or something like that, if they are unbranded even better, and if you can direct me to the latest one even better... i have installed the one from Orange in spanish meanwhile, i think it's Ver 1.57.75.3 found here. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566929 but if there are better unbranded ones i'll be very happy to install them... (how about this one: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521354).
Thanks a lot again in advance...
old Question:
Hi, i bought yesterday my new Opal and i have no idea how to update the rom to windows 6.5... I´m a bit of a perfectionist so i wanna get things right from the beginning, and i used to mod motorola phones so i understand some of the technical stuff, but htc is completely new to me.
So far, this is what i have understood:
to update:
1.- install hard_spl
2.- install custom ruu
3.- install new rom.
But i have a lot of questions on what is each one of those things and the advantages they give.
What does Hard_SPL do?
What is the Custom RUU for? (what is the RUU?)
What is the most stable and least customized rom with winmo 6.5? which rom is the most used by this forum?
What is titanium?
and last: how is the Opal unlocked? (if posible)
Mi goal is to update to winmo 6.5 but keep my phone looking as stock as possible and as stable as possible...
all the help i can get will be very appreciated...

Congrats for your Htc touch viva!
Ok now initially Htc touch viva has its official spl which would not allow your device to upgrade to custom roms. You can only upgrade to official roms. So Spl is a kind of lock To unlock that only we use Hard SPL After installing HSPL you can upgrade to custom roms.
And you understood slightly wrong because Ruu = Rom update utility its just a app which is used to upgrade your rom in your device. So u dont install that. After HSPL directly rom
And about the roms i cant say coz every one has different flavours try them all At last titanium is a new interface made by microsoft and introduced in wm 6.5 and above.
A Word of Caution....
I want to add one thing...(IMPORTANT!!!)

Don't think that a particular WM 6.5.x ROM will work for your device just because it worked like a charm on somebody's device. Believe it or not, though it may be the same model ex: HTC Touch Viva T2223, there are variations depending on the country.

I want to add one thing to what freelancer said:
Imo it is not ALWAYS the best to stick with the stock version. I had branded ROM shipped with my phone, hardSPLed it and installed custom translated unbranded ROM.
Does the same thing as branded ROM did but way faster. And some features like the HTC task manager didn't work with branded rom at all. Now everything works just fine.
I agree that stock ROMs are the best/fastest, but just not if you have a branded one. It slows down your device.
Just my opinion

Lol, who said that stock is rom is best as far as about opal you should go ahead with custom roms i have seen that custom rom gives more free ram then stock. Plus task manager in stock rom that can be done in custom also the thing is the more the rom is lite the more efficiently your device will work do you know the stock rom .nbh file size is more than 100 mb whereas a normal custom rom is around 90 mb if there are many app and you can create less than 50 mb stock rom also. Wm 6.5 is perfect for opal inface wm 6.5.x also.

THE VERDICT!!!!
Custom Roms RULE!!!!!
i don't mean to disagree with you guys (you know better) but i didn't mean to say that WM6.1 v1-vx is bad but as far as WM6.5 is concerned....they have disadvantages like they are buggy and also consumes battery quite fast.
Appearance wise...WM6.5 is way ahead...but performance wise....I'll stick with WM6.1 anytime.
currently i am using WM6.1 v14 by PDAVIET it is nearly perfect!!!!
regarding differences in hardware...i was meaning the CARRIER...like Verizon, DoPoD, T-Mobile (MDA Basic), iDea (India) and so on...sorry...
regarding stockspl...mine was SPL 1.35.0000...i couldn't find any download link for that..
hey brothers i think tht opal also should have a completely cleam winmo 6.5.3 rom plxxxxxx i love it on mi friends wizard which has less ram....i know ya guys can do it...and also brother winmo is all about customising and making changes to interface wen ya want... its not only themes..it has completely different uis tht can be swithched ezily... so ya gotta try these.....i guess after trying diferent lock screens games today screens thn aftr tht rty theroms

hi all i have the first batch of hd2's from mobilephonesdirect.com and the specs are
1.43.405.1 WWE rom
5.2.21864 OS
2.5.1920 MANILA
2.04.50.22.2 RADIO
now id like to flash my hd2 as ive had it awhile and at first just installed everything everywhere and now i know what apps i want id like a clean install, i was going to just hard reset it but then thought seen as theirs new roms i should install one for the fixes they offer. so i have one simple question....
should i install the latest official rom from htc 1.66 or would it benefit me more installing a custom rom, keep in mind this is a first for me and i would like a custom rom if possible to gain some extra features they offer
can someone link me to the best custom rom to date please and also are they easy to install
you should do your homework and read m8. then happy flashing.
im reading up on the info now matey, could i ask whats the best custom rom todate.. most stable and clean, also how is their some with more ram and cpu hacks, where can i find out more info on this as it seems weird htc putting higher amounts of ram in these hd2's and then not showing it, also whats this 1ghz hack ??

Mate,
could you post your thoughts here too I am well interested too, I have had my HTC HD2 for 8 hours now and its a beauty!!!
I have pretty much decided to:
- Check SPL version
- Install HSDL
- Install Dutty's LEO Holy Grail V0.9
- Stick a SNES emulator on it.
Mark.
there is no 'best custom rom' and if you HAD been reading up you would have seen that that question gets asked a dozen times per day, and never gets an answer.
actually threads like that get closed.

Starting with HSPL is the best choice, then your options are greater.
You'll get many opinions on ROMs, and all our chef's are great, and do fantastic work but like anything, it is a matter of taste.
For me, Dutty's HG is a good place to start. It is close to stock, but with some great custom features. It is my choice, as it suits my needs/style of using my phone the best, but my all means, you should experiment.
I have read alot and the process/method seems like something I can cope with, I suppose the only question is:
If I should wait for longer than 8 hours
Nice piece of kit for sure though.....
Mark.
That's up to you, but what are you waiting for?
I have had my HD2 for a month now. Been running the stock 1.48 ROM with all the tweaks and fixes from XDA. Everything works great. The newer 1.66 ROM has just been released in my country (I'm in South Africa, things are a bit behind here), and i was thinking of either flashing the stock or a custom ROM.
I've read on these forums from a fair number of people who claim that cooked ROMS are inherently unstable and suffer from random freezes.
Is there any truth to this. I was running Sakajati's Hyperdragon ROMS on my old Kasier, and they were 100% stable.
Or is the instability a result of multiple ROM flashes without using the MTTY process?
Thanks for your help.
I'd say run the stock 1.66 ROM and see how you get on, it might be fine with a few tweaks. After that, look into custom ROMs if you feel you need one
Hi Eddy.
Thanks for the reply.
I'll give the stock 1.66 a go.

it really depends on your needs and deires... the only thing you can do is look through the various ROMs and then choose one that suits you or that you like... if its not what you want then change it...
I have been looking at a lot of ROMS, have not tried any yet.
I think i will probably go with Laurentius Ultimate power. I like the fact that his ROM includes a Radio, and he also does a lot of beta testing before releasing a ROM.
I've just flashed stock 1.66, will try that for a while. Then go the cooked route.
Duttys HG series are very good, using it at the moment (WinMo 6.5-style as I hate the new new buttons) - link is in my sig for those interested
from my personal experience i can tell you the best custom roms are faster, more stable and also have extra features that make them more fun compared to stock. but for this to happen you need to be careful with your flashing method.there is an excellent thread in the 1st page of the ROM development forum which i recommend you study thoroughly before attempting your first custom flash. also, remember to always flash a stock ROM in between 2 customs (or use mtty) and always hard reset the phone after the 1st boot. roms are also radio sensitive so you might also have to flash different radios to obtain the best combination. perhaps it sounds a little complicated but it's not really and definetely worth to try.
cheers mate and have fun!
deleted double post
If u r looking for stable rom, try 6.5 rom, not 6.5.x.
6.5.x roms is more finger friendly but contain more bugs than 6.5
Try Miri's rom or Xanny's rom. I used both and satisfied with both
Hi Antaed.
Thanks for reply. I've read all the HSPL and flashing posts. Not too worried about the process.
I agree with what you say, on my tytnII, custom ROM was much faster.
Good to hear you're not have stability problems with the custom ROMS for HD2

glad to help mate. i'm not a flash addict (just yet ) so i tried only roms from the notorious chefs - dutty, laurentius, xannytech, energy, etc. i wasn't disappointed by any of them, all are very good but each is different in its own way. my favorite is artemis (from sternas) because i find it closest to my needs - leo only packages, close to stock, essential addons and of course great, great performance. i recommend you try a few yourself so you can decide which is best for you.
where do you get it? i'm trying to make my own rom based on that build.

There is no stock 6.5.X for HD2 only 6.5 sir
is there a wm 6.5/6.5.x rom without any customizations from HTC or others?... plain clean MS stuff...
So what is the best 6.5.x rom to use as a base when creating own rom for HD2?
After somthing that looks liek stock visually so I can adapt to suit my needs but back end should be stable etc.

As already stated many times, HD2 does not come with any WM6.5.x Stock ROM ...
What you need is a Wm6.5.x build + WM6.5 Stock ROM and mix them up...
Best way is to go through threads over at Chef Central : http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=612
Dude I know HD2 doesnt come with a stock 6.5.x rom, I didnt say or infer it did!
I was simply asking which is the best base rom(s) to use, didnt say say anything about using a hd2 stock rom.
Thanx for link though will check it out.
