Just got HTC - HD2 General

I have just got the HTC on contract and have a few questions.
1. How do I create albums to separate my photos?
2. If I use Wi-Fi on my own router does it cost my contract?
3. My internet keeps connecting every 20mins how do I stop this?
Thanks.

1) In camera options there is an option to save photos into subfolders, just choose to save to a new subfolder once the album is complete.
2) You mean if youre connecting to your router through your phone? it wont cost extra
3) Go to settings -> Data services, check how often your weather, stock, email, facebook etc is connecting to the internet

yes through my router to my phone that is Wi-Fi correct? and It wont add on my contract even tho i dont have internet?

Yes that's correct..
Make sure your data connection is turned off at all times (open the comm manager) you can use your wi-fi at any point for free.

Thanks mate, I have done that thanks alot.

What do you mean making files?
If you're still referring to your camera then in the settings you can choose the save location to be on the storage card.
MOVING FILES USING YOUR PHONE
If you want to move pictures which are already on the phone then open File Explorer (from the start menu) and navigate to the files you want to move.
Hold down (press and hold) on the file you want to move and press Cut/Copy
Navigate to the folder you want to paste it to and repeating the same steps as before press Paste.
Keep in mind there are third party apps that can help you with this such as Total Commander.
EASIER ALTERNATIVE:
Connect your phone to your computer and launch ActiveSync.
Choose to navigate your phone as a disk drive.
You know how to use Windows don't you?
NOTE
To quickly move files using your storage card, plug it in using the adapter that came with it, it acts like a flash drive and you can transfer files quickly.

If the files are already on your computer then connect via ActiveSync or just plug your SDCARD into your computer using the adapter that came with it.
Just drag the files onto the SDCARD.

Set Opera download folders

Whenever i try ad download someting from opera I get the option to choose where i want it to be downloaded to, however, if I choose storage card the only options I can pick are none or loads of folders of copilot.
Is there a way to specify which folders opera gives me as options to download to?

Yeah, it's basically a very poor replacement for a folder treeview. I don't know what order it's sorted the root folder of the storage card, but it shows the 1st folder and then any subfolders of that, and any of their subfolders etc. etc. etc..
I'm the same as the charliebarter that the CoPilot folder is at the top of my list, so we get a recursive list of CoPilot sub folders, and the list runs out before it can get any further. Even if the dropdown allowed more entries, I certainly wouldn't want it to carry on and list every single folder on the storage card!
It's just crap on the part of the Opera devs. (So is the fact that there's a rather small limit on filename lengths, which includes folders so you'll end up with files called something like "\Storage Card\Folder\Sub Folder\Filena", instead of Filename.)
I don't know if Opera 10 is better in this respect, but I prefer the zooming in Opera 9 so I don't want to upgrade.
New Folder.....
Create a new folder on the root of your storage card & download to that. This is what I do. I have a folder on storage card called 'Apps' & download to that. Hope this helps.

The problem we have is that we don't get the option to save to any folders other than the long list of copilot folders. The list cuts off before getting any further than the many many subfolders of copilot.
I do have other folders in the root of the card. I just can't save to them. I end up saving to the root of the card and then moving files later, but that's just daft.

Welcome...uh, DorkFish lol.
The best place to start is the stickied thread at the top of this section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=663845
And this set of tips for new users:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688928
Now, for your immediate question...
First, you don't need any other tools than you already have, other than you do need to have the music on your PC to start with, in a folder you can access easily.
Now, connect the phone to your PC with the USB cable, and an option should appear on your phone's screen to choose "disk drive" mode, click that, then "ok" on the screen. Your phone is now connected to your PC just like any external drive, and you can now directly access the contents of the phone's storage card this way. So, just create a folder on the card there called "music", and copy the files you want into that folder. Now that they're there, once you disconnect the phone from the USB again, your phone's music player(s) can now access and play that music.

opera 10 and camera usage

am i the only one getting mad problems trying to use both together? i ll have opera 10 open and minimized and ill try to run the camera and it will fail to initialize alot, sometimes just fail to initialize, sometimes it says not enough memory, but opera 10 will be the only other app running...
anyone else have this happening to them
I have this problem too. I think this is a known issue and there are no fixes as far as I can tell. you just have to kill opera 10 before starting camera or just use opera 9.7.
I used to have this problem
I used to have this problem but I removed most of the startup programs along with the \program files\selfservice (just renamed to stop.selfservice) programs and I can run everything at the same time. I even removed the bluet hoot service app in the startup but you can opened via shortcut.
how did u remove startup apps?

connect to your PC with activesync, then use your PC to navigate to my device\windows\startup on the phone.
you know I just tried opening opera and camera and it's fine. perhaps it's working with the leo cpu patch now.
Just to follow up
My phone has been on 3 days without rebooting and I haven't close at all Opera 10. I have 26 processes running including 10 apps running. I think I solved the problem on my phone, not a single mem error.
So the problem was either in the startup apps or the selfservice apps.
By the way I don't use sense, i use SPB MS and s2u2, the phone feels fast very fast even with all that load?(only 179mb RAM free).

So, I have connected my phone using activesync, and every time i open the files on my phone, the windows directory is no where to be found. Why is this? I can find the windows directory just fine when using file explorer on my phone. But not via my computer.

Did you try to unhide the folders on Windows explorer>tools>folder options> check "Show hidden files and folders" remember not to delete the files in the startup folder just move them, maybe you'll need them if something doesnt work well specially BThoot.
Do you open it and choose to connect as active sync on the phone or disk drive? I think when I choose to connect as disk drive, then only the storage card shows up and not the on device storage.

As active sync, and yes that's correct you can't see the phone storage when accessing it in disk drive mode.
The items in the startup folder are mostly just .lnk files, which are links to the executables in the \windows folder...so as long as you can find those again if ever needed, then it's safe to just delete anything in there with a .lnk extension.

My set up>
T mobile HD2 latest ROM(how ever I was ok using old ROM).
SPB mobile shell 3.5.5 (Sense theme)
S2U2
Arkswitch
In My startup programs(windows/startup)>
arkswitch
ilock2
lumosstarter
spbmobileshell
everything else I moved to
windows/startup2 (or anywhere)
there is an app called BTtrayCE, this enables the bluethoot, so if i want to enable bluethoot i press a shortcut that i made to that app, then i turn bluethoot, probably is ok to leave bttrayCE but anyway i dont use it.
then i renamed the folder
program files/Selfservice to program files/stopselfservice
in this folder there is a lot of trash from t mobile that starts when you turn on the phone.
I think one of my main advantages is SPB ms, really, it disables all that sense stuff that crashes the phone (in my opinion), you can get better performance by using titanium but, it is not too productive.
I'm attaching some pictures of my phone. it is running since morning (it died because of battery) the last screen shot i posted before
Again no problems with the performance at all battery last for 1.5 days but i dont have data plan, just wifi 21 hrs a day.
Hope it helpsss
-Roberto
Awesome Roberto, thank you! I haven't gone in to clean out my startup group yet, but according to what you're showing even the few things that are in there now can go...although I might just put bttray back in there since I use BT all the time.
Also, oddly enough, I don't have the program files/selfservice folder you mention...maybe it's new in the 2.13 ROM...?
They came on 2.13

Actually yes I think they came with the new 2.13 ROM. For some reason with those files running I wasn't able to open more than 5 apps at the same time - they were autoclosing-, i think that's t mo's solution for stability in the HD2.
alright so i deleted some things, and i thinkk i may have messed something up.
when i hold the end key down to get to the menu where you can vibrate or turn off data it lags rediculously.....
could someone send me their startup folder shortcuts so i can compare what you have in there?
like an idiot....i didnt backup before i started deleting

need some help please

Hello all,
today i bought x10, so i have x1 and moved my micro SD cart to the x10 but i cant find a way to access it, there is tons of stuff on it - folders, films, music, text documents.I am used to windows mobile device so need some help with android. How to access my card?
another thing - how to change the directory when i take a picture where to save it?
there are some "moxier" stuff on the menu wtf are all of them for?
i have a USB stick for internet, when i put the sim card in the phone and try to connect to internet it says there is no connection set up???with all other phones i insert it and just start browsing so whats the problem here?
sooo thats the problems i met so far i will be gratefull if someone can help me.
Firstly download a file manager app... Astro or Linda are both good. That gives you access to your SD card's contents.
The camera takes pictures and stores them on DCIM file and under 100ANDRO on my phone. They are viewable in Mediascape from there. You can also use the file manager to create more files/albums in the Pictures file and as long as the image is in there the phone finds it to view in Mediascape. I copied over a load of pics from my PC to X10 using the MediaGo part of the PC Companion.
The moxier stuff is bloat ware put on by SE, can't get rid of it unless you root.
Not sure about the USB thing, hopefully someone else can give you some advice on that.
sooo if i dont have internet connection i cant download either of the managers :/
Are you talking about using a different SIM card which has a mobile data plan on it just so that you can access the internet??? That's not a great way of using a smartphone like this.. when you've got your "normal" SIM in you phone will be a bit crippled!..
Anyway.. couple of options - 1. Find somewhere with Wifi and use that to access the internet..
2. If you're putting in a new SIM card then you'll need to configure the internet access via mobile data - you can get the settings from the support pages on the SE site..
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...owtogetinternetsettings/xperiax10?cc=gb&lc=en
okay...
fixed the internet , installed astro
just few more questions poped up so:
as i read somewhere now i dont need anything else to install .apk files on my device right? i can install them throught astro?
also when i configured astro to "sort" folders and files (folders on top) when i restarted the device they went back as i didnt do any settings?will settings reset every time i shut down the phone? and can i fix it somehow?
oh and any options to see the % battery left like on x1 after putting some other roms that got this option?

HOW do I send a file from my Phone to my PC ???????

I know this should be alot easier than i'm making it to be.
How the hell do I transfer a video I recorded last night, to my PC? (so i can upload it to facebook)
If I connect the USB cable, what do I select ? I selected "mass storage" but when i went to "my computer" nothing came up -- why not ?
What's the EASIEST way to send files ?
there should be an option to directly upload to Facebook -- like they have with youtube.
What is your operative system?
If it is mac os you need to put the phone's usb in debug mode. You can do this from adjustments, applications, development.

hey man
im using windows 7 64 bit
do I still need to put it into debug mode?
basically i want to know the steps/directions on how to a) attach my phone with the USB
and then b) to go through my phones files and select the stuff I want to download to my pc
why is it so hard for me? it's super frustrating
I honestly don't think it should be this difficult...
when you go to mass storage you must still mount
follow the steps below hope it helps
1. plug usb in
2. select mass storage
3. pull the menu down and click on usb connected then mount
4. open the removable disk (your phone)
5. go to the folder with the files you want to copy
6. either copy paste if u want the files still on the phone or move to a new location on your computer
( camera pictures are in my DCIM folder then camera other files u need are some one eles not sure)
7. after ever thing is done and your finished transferring data to your computer
open the menu again selected usb then turn off .
your done.
dropbox said before is a site you can use to upload files to your computer on the go
say someone at home wants to see the pictures you just took on your trip its as simple as putting the pics in the folder dropbox and then there viewable on your computer i love the idea personally hope this helps
I use bluetooth.
If they're just short videos and you don't want to go through the USB process, then just upload them via Dropbox if you have a good internet connection. Google it, get an account, get the Android app.
You're missing step 3 in Bobler420's post. That is, after selecting mass storage, pull the notification drawer down and click on "USB connected".
Exactly, you have to mount SD card on your phone via pull-down menu.
Another way (if you have home wifi network) is to do it with EStrongs File Explorer where you can directly copy/paste from/to your phone over wifi connection.
Why not upload it via the facebook app? If that's what you are wanting to do.

I do it via sugarsync (https://www.sugarsync.com/) - works nicely, even if the client could use some additional work....
you've gotta mount your usb from the notifications menu after plugging in your cable.
or use dropbox.
or email attachment.
or upload it straight to facebook.
I tend to use Dropbox since I'm such an utter slob I can never be bothered digging out the nano-USB cable...
here's a good easy method
