A "G1" is a debranded HTC DREAM that is sold exclusively by tmobile.
Tmobile does NOT sell ANY developer phones.
Therefore there is NO SUCH THING as a "G1 developer phone".
I therefore identify this advertisement as FRAUD.

Use your local craigslist. You can ask anywhere from 100 to 180 if its in decent shape, and you don't even have to worry about shipping.

you are wrong. I bought the phone straight from Google. it was the first Google DEV phone.
You should search online first before you make a statement like that.
this is one example of what you might have found

Telus HTC Hero, can it be unlocked

Can the Telus HTC Hero be unlocked, without having any telus sim or being activated on telus in any way at all? I'm on Bell but want an android device. Was thinking of buying it, unlocking it, and throwing in a Bell sim.
unlock?
I am looking for the same answer, it should be able to get unlocked question is has anyone don it yet.
Unlocked and android 2
Better yet lets see it unlocked and android 2 installed!
There is a guy on eBay selling unlock code for the Telus Hero (try searching "telus hero"). If you are willing to shell out 25 bucks, you may want to try that. He said that he would refund you if his code didn't work.
Telus does not lock the phone, that's what the CSR told me. Pretty much u can put in any sim card to make it work.

That's really good news for us AT&T guys!!! I just need to buy one now, from what I hear Telus will not ship to the USA.
So far, actually buying one is the biggest issue. There's been discussion both here at XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=580418
and on some other forums, such as:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=1585687
About buying it. Apparently both Best Buy and Walmart in Canada have them, but only sell them in the store and won't ship them. (Best Buy's is on their website, but Walmart's doesn't seem to be).
I'm an AT&T subscriber that's been keeping an eye out for a way to buy a Telus HTC Hero. If I lived close to Canada, I'd drive up and get one, but I live in Georgia, so it's a bit far. I hope somebody finds a place online or something.
I'd be careful about believing the Telus CSR info that the phone is unlocked. Somebody posted on Boy Genius Report that they bought one and the phone IS locked.
See user "k386" comment here:

I just bought a Telus Hero from Best Buy today, and I can tell you that the phones are LOCKED. Bought a code off a website and unlocked it, it is now usable on Rogers, but I'm with bell, so I will have to get a Bell Sim tomorrow.

thanks for the heads up
I just got my brand new Hero from Telus at square one.
I then put my Rogers sim card in.
I unlocked it successfully through mobileincanada.com it took 10 minutes to receive the unlock code.
Everything is working great so far. Except for wifi ... having issues connecting to any hot spots? it may be just weak signal or something ... will do some more investigating.
btw. My old phone was the HTC HERMES (I loved it for many years) but it's time to move on
Hey all right! Congratulations!

So, just checking: You live in Canada, right? You didn't drive there from USA, right?
I'm just looking at this from afar. So that mall has a main Telus store and a satellite store. For the smaller store, I see that the store mgr or seller provides a non-telus email address. So, for those who want this phone, i don't guess you'd think he'd sell & ship them, right?
Because what were the requirements to buy the phone? I'm just curious since so many people in US are trying to find a source where to buy these phones from.
How much did mobileincanada charge to unlock? And would they be a possible source for buying telus phones, and re-selling & shipping, at a markup, to USA?

This is how I feel about my T-mobile Wing... My unlocked Europe/GSM version of the Hero arrives tomorrow. I wanted the brown color Then I should just have to call up t-mobile's data group and get the settings to use it, with my swapped out sim card, right? (I know, i know, i won't get 3G. That's okay with me. there are many tradeoffs)
You don't need to meet any requirements to buy the phone outright. Other than having the cash to do so
I've bought 3 this week for USA members to ship to them. Was no biggie.

Yes that's who I'm doing it for
I am waiting mine to arrive (my friend in Canada bought and shipped it to me).
Just now I went to HTC Canada's website and looked at the spec again:
Dual mode UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (900/2100MHz for
EU/Asia, 850/1900 for US and 850/2100 for Telstra)
It's funny how they list 850/1900 for US on HTC Canada's website, as if the phone was designed to work in the US. They could have put it much better by saying "850/1900 for Telus"... Only AT&T uses 850/1900 here in the US, and NO I don't think AT&T is carrying any Android device in the near future.
It's like "Hey, friends across the borders. I am sorry for making the Hero exclusively on CDMA networks in your country, but you know what, here is something that you may like."

Sim locked Nexus One

Hi guys,
I have a question. I just won a Nexus One on ebay and the guy that sells it tells me it's SIM locked to T-Mobile. Is there such a version ? And if so, how easy is it to unlock it myself ?
Waiting for your answers, thanks in advance!!!
Nope. All N1's are sim unlocked.
Even when bought with a T-Mobile program ? Sorry for asking again but this guy insists that it's locked. And I also found some site that offer unlock services for the Nexus One, so I reaaaaaally want to make sure before buying one as I won't be able to return it if there is a problem as I live in Greece

My understanding is that no N1's are sim locked. Google said the same when the phone was released. Worst case scenario is that you'll have to drop $10-15 to get an unlock code online, but I'm pretty sure it's unlocked.
Anyone else care to comment?
All Nexus Ones come unlocked. There is no locked version of the Nexus One - it would defeat one of the imperial concepts Google is shipping with the phone.
if that is the case so why people is buying unlocked N1s
it's much cheaper to buy T-Mobile version and then put any sim inside
am i right or i am missing something????

The T-Mobile version requires a 2 year contract which over its lifespan will cost more than buying the unsubsidized version upfront.
And to the OP, Google has said that all N1 phones are unlocked whether its subsidized or not - one of the advantages of selling the phone themselves.
Even if your phone 'is' Sim locked, which it's probably not, after 90 days of service with T-Mobile, you can call them, ask for an unlock code, and they will send you one via email, for free. Don't pay money to some idiot on eBay when you can do this yourself at zero cost, especially since you likely won't have to do it at all.
Also, stop pressuring the seller about whether or not it's really locked or not. Maybe he'll look into it, find out it's really unlocked after all, and jack up the price!

It would be an option if the phone was locked... but it's not. I don't know of any way that a normal consumer can lock a sim unlocked phone.

I know it's not locked, but he's paranoid it could be. It was just a suggestion to ease his fears
I know for a fact that some nexus ones are locked
I know this is an old thread, but it's what i found try to figure out why i my phone didn't work with a tmobile sim while on a business trip. I Purchased my nexus one from KT olleh in Korea in march '11. I call KT and they connected me to HTC in Korea. HTC gave me the unlock code for free over the phone. I just wanted to share so that other people with locked N1s don't think they going insane. The FAQ should probably be updated.
FAQ Updated:
- Q13: Is Nexus One carrier-locked? Will it work with my carrier / network?
A: There should be no such thing as carrier-locked N1. All the rumors of carrier-locked N1s, including bits of misinformation from SFR/Vodafone, are untrue. There might be several weird cases, only one reported on the forum after 1 year of phone existence, in which the previous statements won't hold - but if truly existent, these are abnormalities.

Want to sell Hero, is phone locked to my number?

Did you sign a contract? If so, you should talk to Sprint about that. We aren't contract lawyers.
Well i didnt actually SIGN anything.. haha but yes I am under contract, I have left carriers before while under contract, with no problems though.
But my question remains the same, if the phone IS tied to me, because of contract or other reasons, is there a way to revert it to a new-like state in which someone could purchase and use the phone? This IS a hacking website after all.

Have you rooted it? If so, you should probably RUU unless they actually WANT the rooted phone. Other than that, you should simply need to format the SD card and do a factory wipe of the phone data. That would return the phone to a factory state.

Well, if you have this phone flashed to another carrier, you'll need to get it all setup back to Sprint before someone else can take it over. But chances are as long as you didn't clone the ESN or something illegal. You can sell it off just fine.
Best bet is to call Sprint and have them check the ESN before you sell it. They can look it up and make sure it can be activated. If there is an unpaid bill on the ESN or if it was ever reported stolen, they will not activate it.
The phone is NOT tied to you once you've been released from your account obligation. People sell their CDMA phones all the time. This isn't a problem
okay, But if i sold it and DIDNT tell sprint, and just stopped paying the bill could it still be activated? BTW it is not flashed to use another carrier. But It would nice if i could unlock it to open up the possibilty of an international sale.

It can't be sold internationally because USA is the only country with CDMA.
Nope a phone has to have a clean ESN to be put on another account. A bad ESN means phone came from an account which still has a balance or was stolen.
You don't even really have to tell sprint, if you activate another phone on the account and remove the Hero... But something has to be active on the account in its place - They pretty much hold the phone hostage until you have paid them.

You can stop paying and sell the phone. Its not a problem. Unless someone reports the phone stolen then it will get a bad ESN number. If you just simply sell it or give it to someone else, it will work perfectly fine.

Ummm no. Have you ever registered a phone that came from an account that still had a balance on it? It won't work
Arrgggh so im getting conflicting answers here. Thats okay though. It makes alot of sense that you wouldnt be able to sell your phone until your balance is paid/ different phone switched to same account.
So ill ask this; is there a way to clean/reset your ESN? That would be ideal.
I've also heard the idea of selling the phone for "parts", but that sounds less appealing because im sure nobody is in the market for a "parts" Hero. Unless someone has knowledge of the contrary.
try selling the phone and transferring the account to someone else at the same time, just go with them to a sprint store. I THINK that can be done.
As for changing the ESN you won't find help for that here as it's illegal.

Htc evo 4g boost mobile owners

Question for htc evo owners with boost mobile here. How is it, are there any problems? Someone is selling a htc evo boost ready for 450 would that be a good deal. Thanks.
Well I believe that cricket's 55 android plan is the best out there . I paid only 270 form my evo and i flashed it for free. All the tools and know how is free and available on line. I would never spen 450 on phone.
I live in NY I don't think there is cricket here i also heard its hard getting your evo to boost so buying it boost ready would be the easy way.
i would find one with a bad esn for 200-250 and figure out how to flash it yourself.
So can you hook a brother up with instructions to flash an evo to boost?

I do not believe it needs a "Flashing"
What it needs is an ESN change. You need to change the ESN to one that Boost will accept. Boost will not accept an EVO ID. You also will probably need a donor phone to get an ESN off of to be rather more legal.
The process for changing an android IMEI is not difficult, as I understand it.
Here is a question, do you have boost now?
when it is flashed to another carrier like that...
1. it is stolen
2. it is lost
3. sprint will not support it.
once you get it... there is NO warranty!
so.. I would never pay that much for it.
push it down to $250 or under!
you can do the flashing to other carriers yourself.
or
find a shop that is a boost/cricket/(what ever carrier).. they will do it for free.. because they want your business!!!
good luck.

EVO's on other carriers .. listed on craigslist .. go for half of what they are on sprint.
if i wanted to sell my EVO. that I purchased from sprint.. and have the reciept. I can get $350 or more... why would I want to sell it for $200 or less?
if Sprint marks the ESN on that phone as a stolen / lost device. I dont think HTC will fix it and then send it back to you. They might even keep the phone for refurbished inventory. This I am not sure of... but I would think it a long shot! Manufactures love any excuse to not provide warranty!

Lets just assume that is true. (I don't think it is.)
1) no 4g, so slower data.
2) bad ESN. Someone cannot keep up the payments and has to sell the phone to pay bills.

This is entirely OFF TOPIC
Your trying to prove a prejudice.
I already said that The ESN's are bad so you cannot get 4g. big discount in a 4g area.
It is just as reasonable that people in economic hardship are looking to sell things cheaper and faster. They are in a weaker position.
Selling a stolen phone on craigslist is asking to get busted.

Apparently you cant gain access to online support unless you have an Att account... which i do not as i am not an ATT customer.
i finally found a way to get a hold of someone via live chat and this is what i was told
"Tana Kimble: I do apologize Teddy, your device has to be at least 30 days old before the unlock codes are released to us."

I paid full price for my phone, I have called and spoken to 5 different AT&T Reps and every single one of them either tells me "we cant do it" or that the "code isnt available" . With the new law thing i though if you paid full non contract price for a phone they were obligated to unlock for you?

$32.99, that is ripping
I work for AT&T, and we usually don't unlock new phones for the first 6 months a phone is out. Especially with a flagship phone.
Your best bet is to go through a 3rd party and just suck it up and pay for the unlock.
AT&T is under no obligation to give you an unlock code. They do it strictly as a courtesy.
I dont know if this helps, but when i bought my note 2 last november after it came out... i did so off contract and i ran into the same issue. AT&T reps typically seem like they get the codes 30-90 days after a product comes out and then theyll happily unlock it for you.. it seems like they aren't going to or arent able to unlock a brand new phone that just released.
Search is your friend. There are several unlock methods ive seen posted on xda.

Ran into this today, CS rep flat out told me that it was impossible to unlock the AT&T version of the Galaxy S IV.
I was giving serious thought to returning my ATT S4 and buying a TMOBILE S4 (which doesn't have a locked boot loader) and then using it on ATT. TMOBILE Is heavily promoting that they don't lock you into contracts and will unlock your phone if you leave. When I contacted TMOBILE and asked if I could buy an S4 outright and then get it unlocked so I could use it on ATT they said they could do it - but that I had to wait 60 days after buying the phone to get it unlocked. Seemed kind of heavy handed to me - if I paid full price for the phone why would they make me wait 60 days?
@ att. Rep... I got my sgs3 un-locked when I got it in July/ Aug. No way after 6 months. And it was no problem

Thats so weird. I just bought mine and its unlocked after talking to a rep. I think you just need to get lucky and speak to thr right person. I didn't use my upgrade I just purchased it straight out. Oh I did mention I was going overseas and that this is the only phone I have.

Courtesy?
My question is this and as you say you work for AT&T so you might be able to give me a straight answer... If I DON'T get the phone at a contract price and pay the $639.99 why should AT&T care what I do with the phone then? I can understand them not wanting to share codes for a subsidized phone but full retail? What do they loose by not sharing the code? With the prevalence of services like cellunlocker.net they don't have the ability to keep the device on lock down.
I just don't get the big deal assuming one opts to pay full non-contract price.

AT&T does nothing out of courtesy. Once they have you as a cutomer, they could care less about you. ; (

I used the "overseas" thing on every person ive talked too. i have since spoken to 3 additional reps for a total of 8-9 and have been told the same thing by ALL of them. So i doubt they unlocked your phone for you.
