this. Don't put it in the Windows/ring folder. Drop the ringtone in the windows folder itself. That's what I had to do. Hope that helps.

I also suspect the my documents folder works too.

Saving music files to SD Card/My Documents worked for me.. All work as a rigntone.. For text message I believe the songs have to be over a certain file size, i had some 15-30 secons text message ringtones on my previous phone and these arent picked up on the HTC HD2 if i want them as text message ringer.. The complete songs work fine..

Does anyone know how to stop a text message ringtone without opening the text message?? I have a 2 minute song as as txt ringtone and it wont stop playing unless i actually open the messaging folder to see the text.. Also, if i get a txt the song will start playing, and if i get another txt 5 seconds later, the same song will play again overlapping previous txt ringtone.. thus both songs play at same time until i open message..
Any help is appreciated..

Any help??
Also my on my brothers HTC HD2 we are having a problem where the sms ringtone is causin his phone to freeze half way thru the song.. He has a regular song as sms.

There is no way to Stop the sound with out opening the ringtone, The best advice I can give is to make the ringtone shorter. Normaly around 3 sec or so

Thanks for the advice.. However, I added some 10-15 second mp3 songs i had.. And the phone doesnt detect them in order to use them as sms ringers. Seems to be that the file has to be over a certain size.. Anyone else has this issue?
Another observation was that if you fo to Setting> All Setting> Sound & Notifications.. Notifications tab, Select Incoming Message, and select Display Message on Screen.. Then the ringtone no matter how long it is, it will only sound for 3-5 seconds and stop...

Editing tones for messages

Hi there.
I`ve bought like 2 months ago an XDA mini and i would like to change the tones for recieving messages.i tried to add the ringtones but failed. Can u pls tell me how i can add new ringtones for incoming messages.
Thank you
I assume you are talking about Notification Sounds? If so, you can do this by adding your sound files to the \Windows directory then under Settings -> NOtification Sounds you can change each notification sound to your personal preference. If the sound file is in the \Windows directory, it should appear in the dropdown list.
i dont think it works...i guess ringtones for incoming calls you can change....

What?! You changed the one under "Messaging: New text message", right? What do you mean by doesn't work. It shows in the setting page but when you receive an SMS, it doesn't produce the sound it suppose to give. Or you are not able to provide your very own customized sound?
No i`ve added the ringtones in /Windows ... and when i want to set up notifications .... i can see those ringtones when i`m setting incoming calls ... but when i want to setup incoming messages ... the ringtone doesn`t appear in the subfolder where the ringtones should be.

Oh. Ok, trythis.
Copy one of the WAV files (into your PC) that you are able to see from in the list of choices in Notification->Messaging:New SMS
Right click on it, "Properties"->"Summary"->"Advance" (in some cases, you maybe already in Advance).
You should see the BitRate, AudioSampleSize, Channels, AudioSampleRate, AudioFormat, of the WAV file.
Now, your job is to encode your customised WAV file with the EXACT values (you can easily do that with the Sound Recorder within windows).
Copy your encoded WAV into Windows, you should able to see now (you shouldn't require soft resetting the device).
Ringtones - can be MP3/WAV
Notifications Sounds - can be WAV/MID - NOT MP3 !
That is the most commonley made mistake - MP3s cannot be used as Notification Sounds! Just save them as WAV and put the as previously described in the Windows Folder and you are good to go!
Attached you will find a WAV File that 100% works on a MDA Vario ( Wizard )
Matza, of the top of my head the wav file should be 16bit and 22000hz or somink like that...
in simple the Wav file must be PCM Wav at a reducded quality for it to be used as SMS Ringtone

Text Message Notification sounds

I have an HTC Touch from Bell Mobility and there is one thing that I have as of yet been unable to do with it. I would really like to be able to choose my own personal sound for when I am receiving text messages but there appears to be no way to actually do this.
Is there possibly a program that would allow this or a place on the HTC where I could place the sounds I want for when I receive texts so that it will show up in the default settings program for setting up the notification sounds?
Please help

Also dont forget to convert the sound to .WAV format and copy it into the Windows folder
I have done that but it does not allow me to choose any sounds that I have downloaded like as an example I cannot set it to have the Mail mofo from eurotrip for whenever I get a new text message. it will only allow me to choose from the sounds that it came with.

Are you saying that the drop down list only shows one sound?
how do i convert to Wav format? i also have a problem with text sounds i can only seem to use the sounds that come stock for continuous notifications, when i try to add my own it plays it once or twice (for a couple text) but after tht when i receive new text ther is no sound...is it because they are mp3's does tht even matter? they are only like 2seconds long each...any help would be appreciated
I am just saying that there is only the stock sounds and that I am unable to add any extra sounds to it that I want to have as my sound for when I get text messages.
I'd suggest using Audacity to convert your sound into .wav file. Once you've done that, put the file in \Windows and it should appear in the drop down menu on your "Sounds and Notifications" page. It really isn't that complicated - the only reason I can think it isn't working for you is because you either have the file in the wrong format or you haven't put it into the \Windows folder.
Put your .WAV files in My device -> Application data ét voila, they appear in the list!
well first off it dont have to be in WAV format, MP3 will be fine
butyou cant use an entire song, because there is no wasy to stop it.... meaning no matter how many buttons u press yer gonna have to hear the entire song before the ring ends....\
now imagine, I get an average of 2000 txtx a month, could you imagine heariung the same song 2000 times>???
sometimes 20-30 times in a row???
anyways soooooo where u need to put the rings for text messaging is directly in yur windows folder on yer device....
here is my favorite i made from Euro Trip - Mail Mother F**Ker

Ringtone notification (mail or ect..) on Tmo-Wing

I've searched all over this forum (sorry if I missed it or something) but is there a way to get my own custom ringtone for whenever I receive mail or a voicemail. I already have custom ringtones for my phone itself... but I can't seem to be able to get anything no matter how I try to show up in my "notification sounds" section on my wing. Any help would be appreciated.
I happen to hate the selection of tones for my Voicemail and SMS and would like to make my own.
I need answer of this question
Just put the ringtone you want in the Windows directory and it'll show up in the notification sounds list.

My ringtones is in \sd card\windows\ and ringtone ok now. But sms, mms, e-mail notification sounds not appears. I tried to put them to \windows\ directory (not sd card, i mean main memory) then its ok. Sms, mms, e-mail notification sounds should be in \windows\ directory? Or have any idea for SD card?
not sd in main memory as a quick answer

here how to change the sms tone!

hi,
So some people are asking how to change the sms tone and put there own!
first what you need is a mp3-wav file converter! Roxio can do it or "google" for it there are some free apps able to do it!
2. Convert your mp3 sms tone in the .wav format
3. Put your *.wav file in the folder my device/my documents/my ringtones
4. Go to start/settings/sounds and notifications
select notifications and event : messaging : new text message
select your converted wav file in the ring tone menu
5. done
Ps : there are 2 wav sms tones in the files below, simply put them in the my ringtones folder
Bye fabien

what doesn't show up?
Try dropping a MP3 directly into the Windows folder it should show up under all types of alerts then. When I put it into ringtones or rings it will only let me apply it as a ring tone not alert tone. I have not tried a WMV every thing I have is MP3 and there is a decent MP3 trimmer on the LEO so you just pick your start and end point and drop it directly into the Windows folder.

Sorry, The .wav file that I drop into the directory that you suggest. It doesn't show up as an available option when trying to change the tone for SMS.
I'll try dropping it into the Windows directory, as suggested above.

That worked Now I can use my Yoda Message again.
Mmmm, sms tone in the windows folder, there is.....
you can put all alert tones (.wav, .mp3 depending on what alert you want some can use both) into \Storage Card\My Documents
The phone will then find them.
You can cut and paste all the tones from phone memory to here to save some space. (Maybe not strictly needed on HD2 but useful on my previous phone - Diamond)
The \Storage Card\My Documents\Ringtones (or Rings or My Ringtones) never worked for me previously, I havent tried on HD2 but maybe this will help?
cheers

While this does work, the problem with this is that all your ringtones and alerts will show up in your music library.
I've found that putting your ringtones (activated when someone calls you) into your phone's memory, under Windows\Rings folder will work.
For alerts, for some reason this will not work - despite the fact that there are already numerous alert files in there (prefixed by 'Alert-somefile.wma'). To get Alerts to show up you need to actually put them into the phones memory, under the Windows directory.
If you do this, the ringtones and alerts will NOT show up in your music librar but you will be able to select them for ringtone/alert purposes.
there must be a way to add a folder as an exception in the music player just like how you can in the Photo/video album

When you say drop it directly into the windos folder where do I find that folder? When I go into my phone memory I get the following folders:-
Application Data
Conn Mgr
Documents and settings
MUSIC
My documents
Program Files
To use a mp3 for notifications, you need to place the sounds into the following folder
device------application data-----SOUNDS
all the files here will then show up as being available for all notifications ie mail, sms, mms, email etc
ringtones need to be in the ringtone folder, or just press and hold on the file you want to set as a ringtone from file explorer, you will get a menu popup with the option to set the file as a ringtone, it will then be automatically be copied into the ringtone folder aswell.
Hope this helps a little..

Lookin for this tweak as well.
i read sumwhere 2day dat mring has the ability to "silence" the incoming ringing sms tone, if sum1 choses 2 do so, however, its a paid app w/ trial.....
I've unfortuanatly never seen a fix to this, happened to me when I set a full MP3 as a message tone on my Diamond, I just use th default alerts or MP3 Trimmer.

its the way windows mobile operate, its not device specific, a workable solution is to make a ringtone 5-10sec something short just go give you an idea of the song..thats what i use to do but im tired of the whole music for sms(on any phone), plus it annoys everyone around me so i just stick to the generic alerts
I'm not an HD2 user, but this caught my interest, the HD2 has the ability to set a call ringtone and a sms ringtone seperate for a contact? Would anyone know if this is an HTC setting or a something? I'd love to be able to do this with my TP2 without using a 3rd party app if at all possible.
are there any tweaks to this problem?
angeldeath, i am sorry i cannot help u on your question. maybe u can ask in other threads.
I will check this out on my phone right now..
My brother just called me and said that he added a whole song as his sms ringer and now his HD2 TMOUS freezes half way thru the song.. He has to soft reset after that..
My GF says that if she gets one sms song starts playing, then gets another sms 4 secs later, same song starts playing but initial sms song doesnt stop so they overlap.. Once she actually open the sms is when they stop..
There should be an option where u can just hit any button to stop the sms ringer as you can silence an incoming call.
Ok so here is what happened.. I added a super long mp3 song as my sms ringer.. send me a txt.. phone started ringing sound doesnt go off unless i actually open up the message. i left it ringing.. phone went to sleep more and ringer still ringing, then once ringer was over, phone didnt wake up anymore..
had to soft reset..
Another observation was that if you fo to Setting> All Setting> Sound & Notifications.. Notifications tab, Select Incoming Message, and select Display Message on Screen.. Then the ringtone will only sound for 3-5 secons...

My problem is that SMS does not ring. I have set a tone and it will never give me the alert.
Any help on this?
Sunil
Come on guys!!
Take a break!!
If u really need this particular song for a sms, just trim the hell out of it making it less than 10 secs max!! U could do that by any prog on the PC (i use acoustica mp3 audio mixer) or simply by using mp3 trimmer on the phone directly which i also use!!!
For ppl who will be asking about where to place the ringtone for sms to work, just place it in the root directory of "my documents"!!
I've trimmed my mp3 to a few seconds.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it does'nt.
Most of the time it hangs on sms.
My supplier changed my ROM to Energy ROM. The ring tone will stop when I access to my sms but still it's not functioning properly. It still hang now and then.
I then us the standard avaliable ring tone. I found out that if the ring tone (even with the standard avaliable) is too long, the sms will still hang.
I now use a short standard ring tone, with vibrating on and it looks like it's working, but I'm not 100% sure if the sms will hang again!
But I still have a problem with charging. I hangs sometimes.
Pls help.
