Softbank MMS on Hero Android
Hello,
Exactly same problem here. The basic keys to solution are listed below
1.
I have hear from here that the problem can be fixed by setting up and using your own proxy server. I would gladly set this up and share with others, just do not know how.
2.
Another important thing is to forge User Agent - I have done so using HandcentSMS (free on android market), but still no luck
3.
it is necessary to setup APN properly. Currently I do not know wether I have to merge FlatRate Internet and MMS into a single APN or have separate APNs for Internet and MMS.
4. Anything else???
Anyone solved the MMS problem with Softbank so far?

Which type of USIM card are you using?
In my case, I am using iPhone Black USIM card & cyanogen MOD.
And it works perfect. Of course I set up my APN as of iPhone.
In my test and experience, UA setting is very sensitive.
Wrong UA, NO mms.
Proper UA for your USIM card, MMS is there.
Good luck.
Hey guys,
I'm on Softbank as well.. so far no problems sending MMS but have had problems receiving MMS on several occasions.. I can accept MMS from other Softbank numbers, and in most cases, emails from other providers (@softbank, @docomo, @ezweb, etc). But there have been problems receiving from webmails such as Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, etc.. The MMS notification arrives, but when it actually downloads the messages, it's empty.. meaning a blank message from Anonymous.. Occasionally, I do have problems with emails that are in Japanese..
I've merged both FlatRate Internet and MMS APN settings into one APN and haven't had any problems with it as far data transfers and MMS is concerned.. but, I've only used this settings for a month, and at the moment, the FlatRate Internet seems to be working.. I'll have to check next month's bill to be sure..
I'm using the old Vodafone USIM (been here a while) with HT-03A Black on CyanogenMod 4.2.9.1 with UA set as 705NK.. the ones provided in the CM build didn't seem to work as well..

hi
i have a nokia e51 unlocked - about three months ago when i first got it i managed to set up all the apn stuff ok and then after a couple of weeks the mms stopped working with an error message like mms server refused message.
i entered a different apn setting and it worked fine:
??” MMS ??” server: open.softbank.ne.jp
user: opensoftbank
pass: ebMNuX1FIHg9d3DA authentication:
Normal home page: http://mms/
proxy server address: mmsopen.softbank.ne.jp
proxy server nunber: 8080
but today it stopped working again - i cant send mms messages - just says waiting and retry.
has this happened to anyone else? none of the other apn settings i've found and used for mms work.
many thanks in advance for any info.
web browsing is fine using:
??” Web ??” server: open.softbank.ne.jp
user: opensoftbank
pass: ebMNuX1FIHg9d3DA
authentication: Normal
home page: None

Hey everyone!
i was just wondering if there is any way to enable wap for applications in x10?
we can only use the main browser through wap...!
we can't use timescape or facebook or ebuddy or marketplace, track id or any other application.
any solution for this?
Thanks
By WAP you mean GPRS connection right? I'm using it for everything except Youtube when WiFi off
Have you set the GPRS setting? Or just do auto settings under mobile network settings?
I read on an other forum that there were people who had the same problem.
As I like to buy the x10, I'm really curious what might cause this. Unfortunally I haven't got a reaction on my question.
So I you find a solution, can you post it here?
Thx

no, by wap i mean wap. Gprs is a complete different thing. In my country GPRS service cost 25$ for 250mb only.
wap is already unlimited for 5$ only. And i was using wap connection on my iphone (browser, opera mini, push/email, ebuddy, marketplace/itunes).
Now i cant use WAP with any of these applications! only the default browser is enabled. any solution ? :s
GPRS is a connection type, like WCDMA or CSM.
WAP is more like HTML, a data type. The default android browser can't display WAP formatted pages.
Do you mean dial up internet?
Wap is a gprs connection that uses a proxy server with a port: 80 or 8080
it is clear now ?

If you are with Rogers would you mind giving me a hand how to set it up for WAP on the default browser? Just a list of the settings will do. I tried different APN settings from various online sources and the settings from my old W810 but I couldn't even get browsing to work! I tried setting Opera Mini to use HTTP instead and of course nothing works. The unlimited browsing only plan I have is simply a waste at the moment. Thanks!
EDIT: after trying a few things I was able to get the default browser working... but no, the other apps don't work with WAP... not even if I set Opera Mini to use HTTP.
ok, i was having this problem too and i found a way around it.
you have to go to your APNs and edit the APN you are using.
go to the port tag (should be labeled as 80) and erase it making it blank.
save>restart your phone, everything should work fine.

Tried this and only the default browser works...
I have experienced the same issues as described above,
if the default browser is working correctly however stand alone apps fail it may be the APN used has restrictions disabling the use of non-browser data traffic, commonly networks will have a minimum of 3 APNs, e.g WAP, MMS, and Internet.
On this basis I would recommend you ask you provider for the details of thier internet APN (commonly used when using your phone as a modem or email account access) and test accordingly.. if everything works this would confirm restrictions are in place, and a requirement to use an unrestricted APN for full functionality.
As noted different APNs may have differnt charging structures, hence the limitations sometimes when using wap apn access.

The port for my APN (Japanese version) was left blank by default, but I couldn't access my hosted email and website on the X10. Every other website and email worked fine. When I added 80 as the port, I can now access my hosted email and website without a problem.
I'm happy that this seems to have fixed it, but does anybody know why setting the port to 80 worked for me but gave problems for others?
had simualr problem ... calt my x1 support they said that i need to turn on roaming and then it workt .. this is becouse i use tele2 and they dont have there own network they only rent it from netcom so you need to turn on roaming that can be found in settings >wirreles network>mobile network (can have aother name ..my mobile is in norwegiang .. )try that,

Make sure you use the correct APN, sometimes PAYG APN's are different from contract ones.

I cannot seem to send any MMS messages with any Android rom I try. I have tried just about every different setting with no luck. Could this have anything to do with my windows based rom that's on the phone or does anyone have any ideas?
You need to program your carriers MMS APN. Google will serve you there. Apn is under settings, wireless and networks, apn when you see T-Mobile or whatever press menu, new apn and find android mms values for your carrier last entry should be mms and there shouldn't be any button to select new apn in the list.

Hi MrBox23, maybe you can give me a suggestion regarding mms apn problem.
I can receive a message that reports me I got a mms with a button to download it... the only way I found to download it is to remove the internet apn parameters and leave only the mms parameters.
Same thing for outgoing mms.
Is there any solution to this problem???
I searched around but with no success....
I don't know make sure apn is labeled mms mine coexist just fine mms has no button.
There needs to be two apns one for internet one for mms that's the way simple mobile is anyway tmobile should be same format idont know about att

When I execute the stock app Hotspot mobile 3g, it send this message:
"it's not possible to set data connection"
(in italian "Non è possibile impostare il collegamento dati")
I have froyo stock with operator Vodafone and I surf the Internet perfectly in 3g with the apn "web.omnitel", but the hotspot don't work.
I also called Vodafone and they told me that everything is ok.
Do you have any idea on this?

The problem has been solved thanks to UDria
This is a common problem. Apparently Motorola have rewritten the original Android hotspot feature. It now searches for some kind of privilege on your carrier account, which allows for sharing/tethering the data connection. However, Vodafone does not grant this permission.
Your contract with Vodafone or any other carrier does not allow you to share your data connection over multiple devices. They will however "allow" data tethering through the "stock" Android tether feature, which does not require this permission, as long as your usage does not exceed that of the average client.
Too sum it up, in short, yes Motorola have managed to screw their own customers royally on this . I have yet to find a different apk that does support normal tethering. Tips anyone?
Thanks for the reply, I think what you said is right. Then we must find alternative application that works.

Search on Market for Wireless Tether for Root Users. It works just like the app that comes preinstalled, only 5 connections.
Sent from my Milestone 2 XDA App
you can use the default with custom settings at your hotspot 3g use de type DEFAULT and another type DUP, then you can use
i try this settings and get working again
without wireless teather from market
I'm on Vodafone Au and I found that only open network works, if you put wep or wpa, it won't be able to setup data link.
I think I understood that it depends on my Vodafone ITA phone plan "Internet Sempre Smart", that does not allow the use of wifi hotspot.

It is a bug solved in firmware 2.4.24. I think so.

Is your Milestone 2 Vodafone branded?
I ask you this because my phone doesn't have any problem with web.omnitel.it APN.
Are you sure your settings are right?
Yes, Vodafone is my phone company. I tried several configurations but the hotspot does not works. Perhaps it may also depend on the type of phone plan, I have Internet Sempre Smart.
Please could you tell me what parameters to use in the hotspot?
Those are my APN settings
Name: what you want
APN: web.omnitel.it
Proxy: none
Port: none
User Name: none
Password: none
Server: none
MMSC: none
MMS Proxy: none
MMS Port: none
MCC: 222
MNC: 10
Authentication Type: none
APN Type: none
Thank you very much UDria, now my hotspot works very well!
I have only changed the parameter APN Type from "default" to "none" and this setting has solved the problem.
sorry gyus, I have the exact same problem, but I cant find the settings u are talking about at all?
The instructions translated from italian are:
setup > wireless and network > set options for network, APNs > point of access names > click on your APN > APN type <none>

Well, thanks for solving this problem. I was unaware of this solution so sorry for my previous post. That fixed the problem for me as well, after 3 months
Thanks again!
Not at all, i'm glad that many people including me can solve the problem of hot spot 3g thanks to this thread
