Guys im lookin forward to buying a 16gb micro sd card for my nexus. Please recommend me any card that runs good on nexus. thanks
Well... I am planning on buying this as soon as it is back in stock:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&cm_re=16gb_micro_sdhc-_-20-183-245-_-Product
This product here is the same thing and $1.25 cheaper. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...le-_-Memory+(Flash+Memory)-_-RITEK-_-20183263
Plus it has two adapters and is currently in stock. Just an FYI.
What about this one? its cheaper ... http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Class...TF8&s=electronics&qid=1271106988&sr=8-1-spell
Neither of those are the same thing. The card that is out of stock is a Class 6, those two cheaper ones are Class 2. Very big difference in speed.
I run a-data class 6 in my G1 and Nexus. I have them both partition and run app2sd. I have not had any issues.
Go for SanDisk Class 6. You won't be sorry.
The specs on NewEgg are incorrect that is why. It is a Class 6 card as it says to the right on the Mfr website on this page: http://www.ritekusa.com/product_main.asp?divisiongroup_id=8&products_id=78&group_id=Business
As I said it is the same card just with two adapters.

The OP was looking for a 16GB card, Sandisk does not make a Class 6 16GB card only Class 4. Plus it is generally $30-$50 more than the one previously mentioned.
just got my kingston 16gb class 10, works great...probably overkill but oh well
Class 4 is good enough.

OMG man! You just lost lots of money ))) if youd done some tests you would know that Nexus doesnt reach more then 2Mbits\s when writing data LOL Class 4 is optimal.
Here are my test results over USB:

I bought a Sandisk Class 2 16GB micro SD and it appears to be working fine. I am able to watch mp4 movies that were originally encoded for my iPhone. Audio and video are smooth and stay in sync.
By the way - Shouldn't the 32GB cards be coming out soon?
i would never buy a sandisk 16gb card.. i have had 5 of them fail.. alternatively none of my a-data 16gb class 6 cards have failed..
also the sandisk 8gb has never failed me , but the 16gb are pieces of crap.

Are these test through USB ?
Im not sure if those would be the same as N1to Flash speeds.
Apps2sd , video recording etc are best way to test this.

Yes! USB mount mode - usualy the fastest data transfer mode. Usualy mobile phones use a slower speeds when transfering data inside the phone. Im sure Google put class2 instead of class4 card in a box for a reason)
Video recording is not a benchmark for flashcard because its not a even 720p video, just 5Mpix. If i could make a set of infinite shots of photos - that would be a speed test of how many photos can it make in one go.

Those are the USB speeds.
The speeds from Android to SD card are different, and are more important if you're going to be installing applications directly on there.

Hi All,
Just got myself a 16GB version of one of these:
http://www.transcend-uk.com/Products/ModDetail.asp?ModNo=195&SpNo=1&LangNo=0
to replace the stock 8GB Class 2 card that came with the phone. Unpackaged carefully to avoid dribbling on it
Have run benchmarks using both SKTools and Pocket Mechanic and ..... approx 5% SLOWER than standard card!! Have got SDTuneUp loaded, am I missing something glaringly obvious here???
SKTools summary results:
8GB Class 2 Sandisk (supplied with phone):
Buffered Write speed 910 KB/s
Read speed 7119 KB/s
16GB Class 6 Transcend:
Write speed 859 KB/s
Read speed 7021 KB/s
Could the glaringly obvious thing be *don't buy Transcend cards* ??!!! Am I benchmarking with the wrong software (figures vary greatly between the 2 apps but summary is the same - this card is slower)
Any tweaks I'm missing?
Cheers.
Bones.
Is this with the card in the phone or in a card reader?
Most likely it's the limitation of the phone. Try some desktop benchmarks with a good card reader.
You won't gain much speed from higher speeds cards on a phone.

hmm so whats the point of buying a higher class SD card?
Benchmarked in phone. I'll try in my card reader tomorrow. Got to say I'd be very disappointed if it's a hardware limit in the phone, class 2 cards are much cheaper than class 6 and HTC should have made this apparent if this is the case...
Will update when re-benchmarked, anyone got an comparison stats?
one comparison Class 6 to Class 4
At hand a Transcend 16gb Class 6 and Toshiba 2gb Class 4 SD cards measured in Thinkpad card reader:
Crystal Disk Mark mb/s
Transcend/Toshiba
Seq: 14.78/12.11 read 8.755/5.315 write
512K: 14.76/12.09 read 1.982/2.010 write
4k: 3.114/3.216 read 0.025/0.025 write
Not much there to recommend Class 6
Are you sure you have 8GB class 2 sandisk card? I got class 6 with the ppc.
My results in SKTools:
write: 642 KB/sec
read: 2963 KB/sec
That's 16GB class 2 sandisk card formatted with 32KB clusters. So i think your card is ok
Double post
Class6 does not mean that its faster its just "assure" you it can transfer up to 6mb/s. Thats prolly a device limit and not the card you should try it on a notebook or card reader outside phone. I thought the same when i bought a 16gb sdhc class6 SD for my axim - had no changes in speed at all =\
Hey folks,
is there any Speed difference between a Micro SDHC Card with Class 2,4 or 6 while working with the HD2? For example loading big files like Navigation Software.
Copying things onto the Card is for sure much faster, but while copying i've time to wait. Intressting to me is just the speed difference while working with the phone.

I've got a class 2 16GB SanDisk card in mine, and if a class 4 or class 6 make operation time any quicker, then I seriously doubt that you'd notice it. I've not tried any other classes, so can't compare, but I can definitely say that a speed improvement is not required.
allright
a 16gig class 2 is ordered!
Depends on the storage size. With most 16GB cards, there's almost no difference between class 2,4,6.
The less the storage size, the greater the difference between the classes.
However, I recommend a quick test to make sure the data rates are acceptable, before you keep the card.
@johncmolyneux
what's your average speed with 16gig class2 (card in the HD2 and connected via USB)?
Would be great if you could make some Benchmarks with HDTune or HD2testw!
A friend of mine got an PNY Premium 16gig Class2 Card and he got:
~3MB/s Write
~8MB/s Read
(hd2testw)
i hope its the card that is limiting and not the HD2, because these values are bullsh*t!

Reading, I got 8.3MB/s, but couldn't try a write test as it wanted to remove the partition on the card. I then tried the same test with the 8GB Transcend card (class 6) that was in my HD, and I got around 50MB/s read on that.
It was definitely a noticable difference doing that test, but not a noticable difference when using the device.
Incidentally, I couldn't find a single thing about hd2testw. Do you have any links?
what? 50MB/s Read. thats stunning!
is the 16gig Card a SanDisk or also one of the "cheaper" producers?
Try ATTO Benchmark.
I'm now going to cancel the ordered card and get the SanDisk 16gig from amazon. Reviewers on amazon talking about 10MB/s write and up to 20MB/s read. Hopefully the HD2 can make same results!
These are both using ATTO Benchmark (8MB chunks, 256MB size).
16GB card is a SanDisk, class 2.
Write : 4 MB/s
Read : 8.6 MB/s
8GB is a Transcend, class 6.
Write : 6 MB/s
Read : 7.4 MB/s
I trust neither of the apps that I've used for these tests, as the results don't make any sense.

No offence, but I would be inclined to suspect your benchmarking software if it's claiming 50MB/s. That sort of speed suggests that all the reading and writing is actually being done to or from an in-RAM cache rather than the card itself.

32KB cluster size ?
What is the best cluster size to use for formatting a 16 gig card?
Could someone please try "SD Tools" and report you SD cards speeds. Im getting about 2.5 mb/s on both read and write. Tried several cards type 4 and 6. Cards reach full speeds when tested on a PC. Is that a limit for this phone or something is wrong with my unit? I had a Adata SD card die on me recently, too.. Could have been one of the fakes.
So, download and run "SD Tools" program on your i5800 and let me know the results. Also the type of sd card. I cant find any results on internet or this forum. I cant belive that i5800 is capped at 2.5 mb/s.
Thanks in advance everyone!
with the 1GB stock card, I got following result:
2.2 MB write speed
and
4.9 MB read speed.
8GB a-data
3,2 W
6,2 R
Hmm interesting. It seems something is wrong with my phone. I get 2.5 read on genuine 8GB class 4 sandisk card FAT32, at this moment. Thanks! Feel free to add the scores.
is it MB or mB, big difference!

Hope "SD tools" can be trusted for Galaxy 3? Guess its time to RMA the phone.
-3.4 MB/s for writing
-4.7 for reading
Ok here is the concluson. I just got a new Class 6 Transcend card to make sure. Phone is OK. I got around 5.5 on both read and write. This is my third card so far.
No1: A-data 8gb Class 6 - died after 3 months of use, was always slow around 2.5 MB/s. I suspect it to be fake!
No2: Sandisk 8gb Class 4 - slow scores like its a Class 2 card. Also 2.5 MB/s. Tested it and its not one of the fake cards. Bought at a big reliable store. It seems Sandisk has some Class 2 cards marked as Class 4. WTF! Hope to return it.
No3: Transcend 8gb Class 6 - finally working as it should! Transfer speeds up to specs. Actually getting close to Class 10 scores with adapter under windows?!
I was either very unlucky or the SD card market is really crazy right now. Im just glad I dont have to return my phone. Thanks everyone for results!

Also use this app from the market ( it's free ) to improve read speed https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sdincrease.it . Anyway this is about daily use on your android ROM, it doesn't interfere with the test that you can run on your computer !

Hi all !
I was looking for a good memory card to use for booting android from memory card, expecially I was interested in the desire hd build which I know are the slowest one. I hope that a class 10 micro sd with a good access time can solve the speed problem .
I have selected those microsd as I don't want to spend more that 30 euro :

any suggest ?
My advice to you is: check online the benchmarks and tests to SD cards, you don't need a class 10th SD card, it probably will be slower on Android than a class 2, because class 10 SD cards have a huge sequential data speed but a low random write/read, search for random access benchmarks and buy your SD from a reliable seller, carefull with eBay fakes..

Agreed! You may not need Class 10 micro SD as random access speed is much important. Besides, the power consumption of micro SD is also important for running Android on SD. For your info.,
-- normal max. power consumption of KingMax Class 4/6 micro SD is 60mA
-- normal max. power consumption of Toshiba Class 4 micro SD is 80mA
-- normal max. power consumption of Transcend Class 4/6 micro SD is 100mA
-- ......
You can search to find more info. about power consumption of micro SD. As these info. is from official site, which micro SD is the balance between performance and power consumption is required to be tested on HD2.
get the Adata is the best purchase you can do read write 20 mb 16 mb
I see, thanks you all for those advise, anyway I need a 16 gb microsd because now Ihave a 8gb and it's full and I don't know if 16gb class 6 exists !!!
Also my memory is a "team" 8gb class 6 micro sd and I think that it has a bad random access as android never runs well on it...Sadly I don't think that I can find benchmark for those memory card and expecially benchmark of people that are using them to run android.
Also on the productors site there aren't any data on the random access !!

yeah it would be nice ! Also indicate the brand of the cards !
my "team" micro sd has an access time ov 2.2 ms ...too high !!
I have seen this http://www.androidiani.com/forum/htc-hero/9327-microsd-16gb-classe-6-benchmark.html years better !!
I was just about to do a search on this.
I just want the "best" sd card for a reasonable amount of money (let's say max 200 Euro).
What do you recommend? I don't really need more than 16 GB but I want speed and safety.
What do you think of: Sandisk Sdhc Extreme Pro - 16gb, 45 MB/s?
All input is appreciated!

Thanks for your feedback..actually your bench doesn't have the random access data abd I do not know how to read value about ranom writing and random reading..anyway if you say that it lags I believe you !
FOR ANYONE ! TRY TO DO TEST USING THIS : http://www.hdtune.com/files/hdtune_255.exe AND LOOK TO THE RANDON ACCES TIME ! !!
Also I have tried different android build and considering that the major part opf the people want sense on it I have seen that those are the fasters around :
1) desire hd ( the most heavy i think ) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954030 AND http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801607
2) desire : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950035 ( this is the faster build with sense that I have tried on SD ...)
try your memory with those builds and report !!

I downloaded hdtune. Don't see a random access time. Here's what I found:
Patriot 16GB Class 10
Transfer time: Minimum 16.5 - Maximum 17.2 - Average 17
Access Time: 0.8 ms
Burst Rate: 14.2 MB/sec
CU Usage: 23.8%
Kingston 8GB Class 2
Transfer time: Minimum 15.6 - Maximum 17.1 - Average 16.6
Access Time: 0.9 ms
Burst Rate: 14.0 MB/sec
CU Usage: 22.5%
Adata 16GB Class 2
Transfer time: Minimum 14.2 - Maximum 14.7 - Average 14.4
Access Time: 1.0 ms
Burst Rate: 13.3 MB/sec
CU Usage: 21.8%
The issue with the Patriot 16GB card is that I was consistently getting errors after 24-48 hours of use. That has never happened with the other two cards. I can see that the differences between the Kingston 8GB and the Patriot are very small. Obviously, the Adata is less impressive, but 18% on speed and 25% on access time is acceptable if the card is solid. Any suggestions re the Patriot card? Obviously, it was expensive and it would be nice to be able to use it.

well I have write wrong ! I was referring to the access time !! HDtune do not show random access !! By the way your patriot sd is not bad at all also if I have to say that A-data is most impressive because it's a class 2 and has spec of a class 10 !
AH maybe this is your are lucky! I know what's the problem with your patriot SD card, I have read this yesterday. Try this and your patriot card will work wihout any problems : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010228 you have to format it without the LBA protocoll then you can use it with android !

I'll give it a try and let you know how it works. Thanks.
Edit: In the future I will NOT be able to use the standard SDFormatter, correct? A full DOS prompt format every time?

I think that they refer to the formatter tool dof the micro sd assosiation..I think that you have to use the windows foramtter with that line..but it doesn't seem a big iusse to me..I mean i don't format every day !

Hi all !
I was looking for a good memory card to use for booting android from memory card, expecially I was interested in the desire hd build which I know are the slowest one. I hope that a class 10 micro sd with a good access time can solve the speed problem .
I have selected those microsd as I don't want to spend more that 30 euro :
1) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Patriot-Cla...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1303572216&sr=8-1
2) http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/...source=9593&_$ja=tsid:11853|prd:88610&cur=258
3 ) http://www.kmelektronik.de/shop/ind...8&Ref=104&gp=4653&fd=608294&ID2=9007765597179
4) http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...109247&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_4103wt_905
any suggest ?

Do not buy number 1 - Patriot LX class 10. I bought two of them and have terrible results - some androids do not boot at all, constant cash files, error files on the card, often files become unreadable and you can't delete them anymore and have to format the card - not good at all. Now ordered a class 6 card that's 38 dollars more expensive than this Patriot class 10 card
I've got a while ago a Samsung 32gb PLUS microsdhc class 10 UHS-1...blah blah blah
I didn't pay attention to speeds before, but i was reading something about last night, and i checked on mine.
This card is advertised to reach up to 48mbps (read)
I tested on my s4 and the results was:
SD Tools:
Writing speed: 12.2 mb/s
Read speed: 19.7 mb/s
A1 SD Bench:
Writing speed: 14.60 mb/s
Read speed: 18.60 mb/s
My question is to someone who knows a bit about those memory cards and have some experience with them..
Did i get a fake one? Or the speeds above are normally for this type of card?
Anyone?
I think our phones can't handle more than 20MB write and read speed but on the computer, it may be faster. If you want to check if your microSD card is genuine then use H2TestW on your computer to test the card

Oh yes our phones has much higher reading/writing speeds.
For an example:
Internal phone card:
read: 81.42 mbps
write: 33.33 mbps
This is a quick test on A1 SD Bench.
So i would like to know from someone who knows better those cards if is normal.
I know that fake ones will not get writing speeds over 10mbps anyway, but i want to be sure.
Thanks

There is at least one similar thread.
Your speeds are the same as everyone else's. Don't worry, your card is ok.
Is the phone that is not able to use the full speed that the card can achieve.
