Hi,
is it possible to get high resolution on my ameo
or change the size of the fonts to a smaller size
but doing this without having any smaller problems
aka icons missing/not working
or regular crashing of the device
ive looked at ozvga but just wondered if any1 else had a better experience
with a different software package
Hi all,
I am new to this group as I just "Right this minute" bought a Shift, I should have done a bit more research before buying but what the hell, it looks awesome.
My question is what resolutions does the shift do, I know on the site it says 800 x 480 but I aslo own a OQO e2 and it has the same resolution but it can go up to 1200 x 720 but the screen is not clear, its fine if you are just moving around windows and not having to read small text, I use that resolution in Outlook as you can then view most of Outlooks windows and functions with out scrolling all the time. So does the Shift do this as well?
Hi,
Yes its the same with the shift. 800x480 is "native". And it can "simulate" 1024x600. But you can choose a bit larger font size so you can still read everything and still see the whole dialoge-box on the screen.
It works for me.
grtz,
Pfeffa-rah
personally i use 800x480 most of the time, but 1024x600 is very useful from time to time and the hotkey to switch instantly between the two is fantastic.
I think that 1024x600 is only to be used when a contol window cannot be shown completely in 800x480. I don't believe somebody can work for longer than a couple of minutes on 1024x600 because I find it very difficult to read. But I also like the button to switch instantly beween the 2 resolutions. This solves the problem of Vista not beng designed for 800x480.

I find the interpolated resolution very usable indeed - my Shift is almost always on 1024x600 mode - generally speaking the only time I drop it back down to 800x480 is when I'm watching a DivX.

Dave
I also prefer the 1024 x 600 resolution, and I am not young and I wear glasses. I have increased the font dpi to 110% and that makes text quite readable for me.
In contrast, I do have difficulty reading on the Fujitsu U810 and Sony Vaio UX series. The 7" display makes all the difference.
I'm always on the 1024x600 resolution.
Maybe it's a difference I've got good eyes but I don't have any problem with reading.
Word / excel / outlook / live messenger / internet, everything runs fine on this resolution.
If you can't read it, you can use larger fonts (as someone else already said)
It sounds like it is heaps better than the OQO, I only change to the higher resolution on the OQO if I have to as it is quite blurry. I Can't wait till the Shift arrives.
I have the Shift on Orange (UK) and my device does not switch between the two resolutions? Can you state what video driver you have to enable this? Or is is a 'limitation' on the Orange device.
I always use 1024.......

I am also using mine Shift with 1024 x 600 resolution, but increased the font dpi to 112 %.
What's the max resolution under WM after all the hacks? 320x240, 640x480, 800x480 or 1024x600?
You can also right click desktop to set 800x600, I use this one for a long time!
Are you talking about WM?

no he is not ... right click on the desktop in on Vista there are no desktop in WM.
in WM the resolution is "always" 640x480 .. I don't think that someone goes further than that.. and I don't know if it is possible to switch to a lower resolution.
So there are still black bars at the left and right sides even after the realvga hack?
BTW, I searched google but cannot find what's realvga.

yes... black bars ..... be careful with REALVGA.. I never used it but if you have a non-english version, you have to create a /windows/startup folder... and filled it with the content of your statup folder (in your language)
for RealVGA look on the 4th thread... you'll find info about it I think

Hi,
I tried to increase to 110%, but cannot find how to do it. I have only standard options and the first step is to 120% and I cannot do it like I wish. How can it be done?
Thanks.

Dear all,
I am currently using WM6.1 [1.2] on iMate SP3, but resolution is just 176x220.
Before this rom, I was using WM6 cleartype rom (downloaded from the chinese website), and resolution was 240x320.
I want to use my current version 'cause it's really stable, but I wonder if it possible to have it in 240x320...
Thanks
The maximum resolution of the screen on the Imate SP3 is 176 x 220. It is impossible for you to have a higher resolution than that

Hi all!
Sorry for my english, but i never study it
I have the HTC SHIFT with Windows Vista installed.
Today i succesfully install Windows XP with all drivers.
Affter rebooting screen resolution is 800x600 (not 800x480) and present screen scrolling.
At the Vista screen is interpolated and present abillity to change resolution to 1024x768 without scrolling.
Question: I someone can help me settingup normal resolution with interpolation enabled.
Thx

Use this SwapResolution utility.
I have noted that the screen on the liberated WinMo shift has blank spaces to the right and to the left of the screen. The combined total area of wasted screen is almost 2 inches. Question is: is there a way one can utilize the full screen with WinMo for the the Today screen and for most of the programmes in their default application? I guess for the programmes that have full screen capability that might be possible. will check on that......
One other question which might be the subject of other threads here: is it possible to change the screen resolution in WinMo side? Sorry if I have asked something that may have been answered elsewhere.
Ed.
If I have understood what you mean ... everything is about switch from 640x480 to 800x480 (wide screen) but it is a well known issue and I think that nobody has been able to make it support the 800x480 resolution.. that's why you get this wasted space.
As the resolution is 640x480, you will never be able to get full today plugin or full screen program with 800x480 resolution... unless you get the 800x480 resolution to work.
You should ask "why not 800x480 by default from HTC?".... simple : no 800x480 support in WM6 sadly !
To get the 800x480 resolution, it first needs a rom with WinMob 6.1 (I think) or later .. which is not easy. And having that kind of rom may still be not enough.

Not true I'm afraid.
The Toshiba Portege G900 that I used to use runs WM6.0, and it supports 800x480. In fact, IIRC, it has the same CPU as the Shift/WinMo.

Dave
Try this app (Danger: It can harm your device)
We use it for resolution switching in toshiba g900.
Just install SdkCerts and then main application. After that - launch WVGAFix.
Post result here if it is good or bad...
Remember - it can be dangerous, but it works great on my G900
I tried it, but only get an error saying "Sorry, WVGAFIX3 can't run on your system!"
