Like I have always said it seems to be 50/50 across the board on 2.1 roms, some work great and some don't!
It skips and pauses atleast 5 time per minute of song in the 2.1 roms and 1.5 it runs flawless!
I don't think anyone really knows what causes the problems, I even ran a logcat while using bluetooth to see what was causing it, and each time it skipped noting came up!
rgildoss thats crazy **** on the FC's, I never had that on 2.1 roms it just did not work worth a ****!
I have to agree that if 2.1 comes out and this is still a problem I will definitely be returning the phone!

I had an S9 back in the day, used to cut out when I went running with my LG Dare and the bluetooth worked flawlessly for every other device.
Bluetooth is dependent on reflections. If you take any bluetooth device out into the middle of an open field, and expect it to work, you will most likely be disappointed.
This is why your bluetooth works fine when you're indoors, starts skipping when you're outdoors, then starts working again when you get into your car.
The human body is one of the best shields there is. All those nice organics and all that water, soaking up all those incredibly low-power microwaves.

Interesting...I wonder if you will be able to get an official Sprint OTA update when the final release is available. It is a good thing the test release seems to work or it sounds like you could brick your phone by running the .exe utility without an option to flash back to a previous factory rom.

Nope. I ran the .exe utility and now I'm back to Fresh 2.0d with the new PRI . You can still root and reflash recovery to the phone after using the installer.

Another (pain in the ass) option is to nandroid your current install >> install the official RUU using the .exe installer. This upgrades the PRI to 2.10_003 >> Then you can update your PRL to 60663 >> Then you have to manually push flash_image to /system/bin >> You have to give flash_image permissions
Code:
adb shell chmod 0755 /system/bin/flash_image
>> Root and reflash recovery (use this guide, except substitute 1.6.2 instead of 1.5.2 recovery>> Then reboot into recovery and nandroid back to your original build. You can even nandroid back to Fresh 2.0d and you will retain your new PRI.
A bit ridiculous, but at least you get the 2.10_003 PRI.

Info in my sig. I was on a previous version of CM (4.2.12.2, iirc) and had no problems. It did run sluggish, but was guessing it was due to my class 2 sd card and using swap/ext/fat32 on it.
I repartitioned my card to all fat32 and loaded 4.2.13 yesterday. It runs much faster, much more responsive than before.
Now, when on a call, it sounds like it's breaking up, like I have bad signal every once in a while. When it would do it, I checked and had 3G and 3-4 bars. I was at my house, where I've never had problems before. This happened both with just the my3g and on a BT headset. Initially I thought it was where I was in the house, but it happened no matter where I went.
I searched and found a thread titled "Background noise" talking about improved call quality. I can't post a link because I'm a no0b, but here's the info, with attached filename Audio-mic-gain-fix.zip:

You can try this. It has improved my call quality a lot. Follow these instructions using terminal app.
*unzip the files using astro or file manager of your choice*
Open terminal emulator
Type - su (enter)
Type - mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock0 /system
Type - mkdir /sdcard/mic
Type - cp /system/etc/* /sdcard/mic
Type - cp /sdcard/download/*.csv /system/etc/ (or whatever directory you unzipped to)
Type - reboot

Are you rooted with a modified ROM? If so, many people have complained about poor call quality, distortion, etc. This file has fixed this problem in many cases. The *'s stand for 'files'. If you call out an * in a command it pulls all files in that directory. However, another example would be *.csv, which would only pull .csv files, or whatever file extension you put after the *. Sorry, hopefully that makes sense.

Since the file is named audio mic gain fix, it seems this is more for the mic gain, not the ear speaker.
Am I having the problem this is intended to fix?
Thx!
If you're having a problem with your ear piece (speaker), I don't think the mic-gain file will help with your situation. The mic-gain file was intended to improve call quality via the microphone. Some users were claiming that the people they were calling said they could hardly hear them or that there was distortion and background noise.
I don't believe there have been any reported issues with the ear piece using any Cyanogen ROMS, but I could be wrong. Sounds more like a hardware issue. One way to test is to downgrade to a previous ROM and see if you still have the issue. If so, more than likely, its a hardware problem.
Good luck!
That's kinda what I figured. I'll continue using it to see if I still have probs. If so, I'll try a different ROM.
thx for the infoz.
This might not help but I had the same problem when updating from 4.2.5 to 4.2.13. It was fine on 4.2.5 and had a little background noise frequently. But once I upgraded to 4.2.13 calls were horrible all the time, the person could barely hear me. I decided to do a warranty exchange and unrooted it. Calls were fine once I was on stock 1.6, still had some background noise but not on all calls.
Got my replacement the next day, rooted straight to 4.2.13 and had no problems cept for the background noises every now and then.
I have a MyTouch3G as well.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but are you saying that you exchanged your phone to fix your problem? I highly doubt that the Cyanogen ROM you had installed caused a hardware problem. Could have possibly caused a glitch if you didn't install it correctly. However, you should have just wiped everything and tried again. Or, if you were really feeling up to it, started from scratch by unrooting in fastboot with the SAPPIMG.nbh, then rooting again with the recovery image and ROM of your choice.
fwiw, I did a wipe, reformated the sdcard, and a fresh install of CM 4.2.13.
I have a feeling it was just poor reception at the time. I don't talk on the phone that often, but used it today for about 5 mins and it seemed fine. I was riding in a car and background noise was loud (my buddies arguing over steroids & McGwire, lol), but the guy on the other end had no probs hearing me.
Glad to hear you got it fixed.
Sorry, I guess that was out of context. That was @Weirdkid, stating that I didn't do an upgrade like he did. I haven't touched it since yesterday, I wanted to let roll to see how it plays out.

Not quite, I was already getting static every now and then even before root(I thought I could live with it). It was just a little glitch I guess and that pushed me to get an exchange. After the unroot and back to Donut, the glitch with all calls getting low quality was gone but still getting minor static noise every now and then(just like before). Sorry for the confusion.
Okay, so I continued to have poor call quality and 3 calls were dropped. I went back, did a full wipe, no swap/ext, and reloaded CM4.2.13 and had the exact same problems.
I decided to load Dwang's rom and no longer have the problem of dropped calls and/or poor call quality.

Yeah, I stopped using Cyan's ROM when the 4.2.10 release came out. Great ROM, just seemed to have increasing issues after 4.2.9. You should try the Super D rom. Fastest and most stable ROM I've run, hands down.

Thanks for the the recommendation, I was looking at that one, but haven't changed my SPL. No reason, just haven't ventured down that road yet.
I've been looking at the 10mb ram hack, searching for pros/cons, but just see people using it and no full explanation of it.
Is there any real benefit to it, and what does it actually do?

Not a problem. Also, if you have a mt3g, you don't need to upgrade your SPL to run the Super D rom. Aside from that, just make sure you have the correct radio, then do a full wipe and flash the ROM.
In regards to the 10mb ram hack, it definitely increases system speed and performance. So that would be your 'pro'. However, the ram hack is created by pulling 10mb of ram that would normally be used for graphical processes, and instead applies it to your operating system. The con would be a decrease in 3d game performance. So, if you play a lot of 3d games, then I wouldn't recommend the 10mb ram hack. If you don't, then use it. Currently, the only Super D rom you can download that doesn't have the ram hack is the 1.6.6 beta, which as of right now is fairly stable. However, If you are considering switching to this rom, just wait a couple days, the developer has announced that he is releasing the 1.7 stable version this week. I'm assuming he will have two separate downloads. One with the ram hack, and one without.
Btw, I didn't see your phone setup before my last post. You DO have the correct radio to run the Super D rom. So, all you have to do is a full wipe and flash the rom.
Nice! I forgot I was reading the page in the Dream/G1 section...I got this one how I like it, so I'll roll with it a few days and keep an eye out for Super D 1.7.
How do I restore my phone to original so I can start over? I am getting horrible battery life now with this new radio version and I have tried multiple roms. I made a nandroid backup when I first rooted my phone I just need a little bit of info on how to restore this version and will this version send my radio back to normal? I am not sure that is the problem but it started about the time I did the flash to the new version and I would really just like to kinda "start over" to get rid of any issues my flashing all these different roms may have caused. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

welcome to xda. there is a search thread button on the top right of the forum it will find all the keywords you type so that should help you. always search in the forum before starting a new thread so we can keep clutter down. anyways the radio isnt messed with by alot of things because it is very risky and it is also in a whole different partition so a nandroid will not restore it.

It isnt working though since the flash a week or so ago I have been getting terrible battery life and I cant figure out what is wrong... I have wiped, tried about 4 different roms and nothing changes the battery still drains like crazy. I also tried a rom with like no programs running and made sure that I had nothing running that could possibly kill the battery.
I tried that one as well... Still says the same thing, this is really odd, I really think this is causing my battery issues. I flashed both that one and the one on the main page, do you think possibly that the problem is related to this. The only radio update I ever flashed besides this downgrade was the one that Flipz posted to go with his Android 2.1 rom... This is really weird I am really getting worried that I am gonna be stuck on this radio version forever now =(

Do you have Spare Parts installed. You should be able to get info from there. Do you have GPS, Wireless, or Bluetooth on? I have the updated Radio and while I am sleeping I am only using 9% of my battery. With my stock ROM I was using 35% I have everything off except mobile networks and when I go to sleep I turn that off. I do not over-Widget my homescreens or have email checked every 5 minutes.
Maybe try Damage Control V1 or Fresh Rom 2.0. I know DCv1 is great as long as you follow soome of the steps on remving one of the applications.

Nothing conclusive in any of these threads, and I am beginning to worry...id really like my old radio back.
It's an issue with the new radio. Your phone is constantly looking for a GSM signal, preventing the radio from sleeping. Either need to flash the old radio, or upgrade to a 2.1 ROM and follow my guide.
Well, I am on Fresh 2.0c now and my battery life seems better. It was literally going down like 10% or so per hour before, it is back to normal now like normal for 2.1 roms. I reinstalled the radio a few times and I read in other threads that even though the versions wasnt changing in settings it was really changing. So I think it is fixed now but I still got my fingers crossed.
Even if your battery life is better now, you still need to follow the guide to change the Preferred Network to CDMA auto (PRL) otherwise your phone will still be wasting a good amount of battery searching for a GSM signal... I'm on Fresh 2.0c with the new radio and I'm only seeing like a 20% battery drop over 7 hours with normal usage.

Have you tried RUUing the phone? If not, do that and then install 1.5 and see what happens. People seem to be experience far to many problems with these 2.1 ROMS, probably best to hold off until the official release by Sprint via OTA.

there really are not that many problems with the 2.1's there are bugs but that is to be expected from a leak. I noticed I had this problem when I was using the flipz radio as well.
have u make a format or a factory set or unistalling the update.... have one -or more- of this work well ... don't forget to make a backup ... my wishes

True. I'm running 2.1 right now, besides some minor sync issues, everything's okay. I'm thinking about making a ROM, but want to make sure everything works before releasing it. FriendStream seems to not be working, expect only on DarchLegend. I pulled the apks from DL and pushed them to DC.2 -- but got force closes, so I'm trying to figure that out now.
How do i uninstall the radio update? to downgrade.

Three threads about the problem on a *Legend* based ROM?
seems to be a constant bug with 2.1 roms. i had this yesterday on fresh and could not fix it at all, im now back to a pancake 1.5 and very happy for now. i hope the final isn't plagued with issues?

there is a fix posted but it did not work for me. if you do go back to 1.5, id highly recommend the pancake rom, super fast rom! search for it here.
nothing worked for me neither...just have to reboot sadly.
I think I know what the problem is.
I believe it is there media process crashing, and it might be from the voicemail application (though I'm not 100% sure that it is the cause, and it does not need to be running for it to cause the media process to crash)

Hmm, well I know the voicemail app crashes at the same time, it might be the media process crash makes the voicemail app crash (not the other way around).
I want to know when will the sound problem be fixed completely? im currently using fresh 1.5 because all of the 2.1 have problems with the sound.. when someone calls i cant hear them and they cant hear me! i cant be resetting my phone everytime this happens. the fix that they have dont work also it might prevent it from happening so often but all my calls are important... does any one know when this will be fixed fully or why is this happening? how to prevent it ? mayb its the cdma settings? Thanks alot
The audio problem for the effected phones will be fixed when official 2.1 comes out.
i found whats causing it.... so who has a nice rom with the older kernel before .29 .. wats the kernel ? lol
The issue is caused by audio drivers in the kernel not resetting. we do not have the source for .29 kernel so there is no fix. we dont know why this effects some people and not others. Since the audio drivers do not reset it does not allow anything to read them. so it continues resetting and resetting and this causes the cpu to be pegged by the constant retry and retry.
Any 1.5 or overclocked 2.1 Rom
The audiofix posted by avalaunch worked briliantly for me. I have not had the issue once since he posted his fix about two weeks ago.
Also just so you know, zens my touch Rom did not have the audio issues for me. Just be sure to reboot after the first boot to completely get everything working.
which fix the audiofx or audiorc?? or u on the newest one for testers? i hate the my touch roms omg lol whats the older kernel version
wait another thing could it be because we didnt update the radio ?? or u guys doubt that 1?
I have had the audio issue with every ROM i had used until i flashed the Dachdroid 2. Ever since i have not had any kind of issues with phone freezing or caller not hearing me when i answer. Its very strange, but i wanted to post to see if any of the Devs can find out the differences between whats in this ROM and all the othersthat would make it work. Again i have had audio issues with all except this one.
What is this Audio problem?
I've run ROMs with both the .29 and hacked up .27 kernels.
Is this a bluetooth audio problem? Or handset audio?
The problem occurs randomly, for me at least. It's an issue I've had as others have that no audio at all comes through after an unknown time. I notice mine is triggered when I get off the phone with someone, I get 'call lost' and then all my audio is gone and have to reboot to get audio back. It affects BT and handset for me.
Iv never had the problem and iv changed my radio quite a few times. I think im on my 4th radio.
Maybe later at night you could flash a 2.1 rom, change to a newer radio and give it a few test to see if it works.
Flipz has alot of radios and I think the stock one on his site.
(IF anyone trys flashing a radio this is really the only way you can brick your phone. DO not flash any radio unless it says CDMA htc hero. All of them are on flipzmode website. You cant go wrong if you get them from him.)
the issue will hopefully be fixed when they release 2.1 officially. and im still looking into the issue a little at a time. 99% of people reported that one of the two updates put together fix it.
the only other cause could be a hawrdware issue. like the moved one resistor on the board and this causes something in the kernel to restart drivers. idk that is a very very very simple thought. but anyways like i said hopefully it get fixed!
Dont know if this is related but its absolutely killing me
Just today the headset icon popped on and wont go away. I cant hear anything when using the phone because its stuck in this mode. I plug in headphones and the voice dialer starts. I can hear through the headphones, but taking them out does nothing.
Anyone have any info on this or if there is anything I can do?

yeah...Ive come to the conclusion that 2.1 is just not going to work for me...went back to fresh 1.1 and everything is good. Its funny though, Ive been on 2.1 since all of the work was done and never had a problem until now. Ive been on damn near every 2.1 rom and didnt have an issue. Now all of the sudden the handset icon shows up and I cant hear anything unless I put in headphones. Tried all of the audio fixes and searched the entire net looking for a resolution. Hopefully the official comes soon. I am definitely going to miss 2.1.

That's more than likely a mechanical problem. Take it in to Sprint.

I would think so too, but I went back to fresh 1.1 and its fine...
I'd go back, but then I'm stuck with not being able to receive picture messages. So far I get the audio problem every other day, and it's a simple reboot.

a simple reboot ? a simple headache lol idk about u guys i dont want to have to restart my phone when i just got a call that i couldnt answer !! ..... is there any newer roms with the older kernel?? because i dont understand the whole kernel thing...
This audio loss issue is reason number one why all of the people who say "Who cares when HTC and Sprint release 2.1? We already have it!" are just total idiots.
