Question about "Blocking" purchase items from the Market

Hello Everybody, I'm giving my 10 year old son an Android device for X-Mas and I want to completely block the "Paid Apps" but I want him to have access to all the "Free Apps" he wants..... is there a way to do this? I thought of an "App Block" app but that blocks everything, can somebody point me where I can find a Market APK that has all the purchase items removed (is there such a thing or is it even possible to make one?)this will save me a lot of money...thank you everybody Happy Holidays!
I would think simply not entering a card into market would prevent this. Also heard a news report about new market versions and ratings for apps. I assume you would be able to block them right though the market in the coming versions. I am not aware of specific apps for this. Sorry.
Edit: look in the market for "android parental controls." Its an app.

The problem is because it gives an option to charge to the account, I'm with T-Mobile USA.
Oh yes.. They added that. Forgot.

Have you tried to call T-Mobile? I think they can put a block on that line so that it cant have apps purchased through the carrier. When you buy a app it has to get it authorized so I am sure they can block it.
Don't know If this works on the market but what your thinking of is called content blocking....but this disabled text messing services that use short numbers(example free google text messaging 411)
The google 411 number is 46645 (googl)

Please post questions in Q&A section.
You can add a content block feature to the line, and it will allow free asps to be downloaded, but any paid content, including ringtones, etc will be blocked.
If your son attempts to dl a paid app, the authorization will be declined

Question about the market from a total noob

Hello all. Had an iPhone then a windows phone 7 device until about a week ago. Bought an Orange san Francisco, cracking little phone. I had rooted it and was running a custom firmware. I like Android so much I bought a desire he yesterday, it rocks. The question I ask, is on the san Francisco, if I search for say "youtube downloaded" in market place I get a lot more results that if I do the same search on my desire hd. I'm using the newest market place app on both and both are on the same WiFi network. Any ideas? Sorry if this has been asked previously, but I can't figure out how to search in the xda app, please don't flame me for my ignorance.

Could only guess due to different versions of android. if you are sure that you are using the same Search string in Market then am puzzled too.
I have 2.2 on my desire, but used both a leaked custom 2.2 curtosey of modaco, and a standard 2.1 on the Dan Francisco. Is there an alternative web place I can get the free android apps from. Note, in not requesting free apps, just an alternative place I can search for the free apps.

The fast boot option hides some apps in market. Try unchecking that.
It is in Settings -> Applications

The fast boot settings says, u need to disable this for some market apps to work. NOt sure whether will it hide anything from showing to the user...
If you have rooted your Desire HD take a look for Market Enabler on the market.

[Q] Google+ for Legend

Hi All
Does anyone got Google+ on your Legends? Since I don't see it at Android Market and wonder is it device or country/operator restriction...
I have it, and I've reinstalled it while in three different countries. Vietnam's, Japan's, and Canada's Android Markets all have it.
If you have root, use MarketEnabler (from the Market) to fake an American carrier and download the app.
Otherwise look in the General forums for an .apk. ;-)

I did not have any problems downloading it from the Market...
Here you go this apk for Google+.
Thanks everybody but I really wonder why on earth its restricted from the Market and who is the guy (in Google or operator) who suppose to click "magic button"?
It sounds absolutely ridiculous since I can use it through browser but not native Google app from Android phone.

Yes,i have g+ (from the market) and i live in germany

I can't download it from my market unless I use market enabler.

I downloaded Google+ when I was in Singapore though. The Market in SG seems to carry this. Can't find it while I tried to search on the MY Market.
Cheerios.

[Q] Best Abti virus app for the Desire?

Hello guys recently i am getting unwanted spam notifications on my desire, therefore i was wondering what is the anti virus app for the desire? also do android phones really need anti virus apps? just curious. please suggest. thanks, im not worried if its not a free app, even a good paid one will do. thanks
Hey, try AVG antivirus, just find it on the market...
download Dr.web anti virus from market it has two version light(free) and paid version.
i have free version and it works fine.
another good anti virus is AVG.
Abt your last question
yes android also need anti virus.
Actually as for me there is no sense in having anti virus on android, I'm using android for about 3 years and didn't catch any virus, so i think all of them are useless and just slowing down our devices.
Mate its not spam notifications its ads. If u r toothed then use any adfree app and u will be sorted.
Cheers

I use AVG. Pretty good. Doesn't like the phone being rooted though, says its running in high privilage mode, just ignore it.

AdFree for example,it's completely free (Android Market) . useful app!!
Spam notifications are spawned by some apps using AirPush as their ad provider. Remove those and you'll be fine. Also Android rarely needs an antivirus if you don't download apps you don't trust.

I'm using Avast Mobile Security and find it really good.
Has flagged up dodgy apps from the market, also includes privacy advisor, web shield, call and sms filter, firewall and anti-theft.
You need to be rooted to take full advantage of the features but still works well if not.
Best of all its free and has more features than the paid apps
I have used Avast Mobile Security in the past and i am pretty much impressed with it. It has a lot of advanced security options. Give it a try.
I have AVG antivirus and it is good for me
as people said before i dont think anti virus on android makes any sense

As long as I know Android don't need anti-virus!
As like as Linux in PC's.
