So, I have noticed an issue. I am on Kumar's Classic ROM, which I LOVE, but I am pretty sure this happened on the stock ROM as well...
Here is the issue and use environment: I keep my music on the SD Card, and I play it through the music tab. Everything is fine generally speaking. It finds the music after a few seconds on a fresh boot, reads the files and plays them fine. That is when the device is on/screen displayed. I have noticed that a lot of them time, as soon as the screen locks, the music will pause every 5-10 seconds, stay that way for about 1 second, then continue playing... over and over. As soon as I unlock the screen, it is back to normal, then when I lock it, the issue returns. It even did this a little while streaming Slacker yesterday, then cleared up after a while.
I can't figure out what would cause this. I have also noticed that movies on the SD will play fine for e a while, then the video will lag while the audio is fine, and then the video will play at like 3-4x to catch up to the audio...
Odd issues, and I'm hoping someone here has an easy fix for me. I did a search and didn't see anything...
Have you ever reformatted the card since getting it? That might be a good place to start. Also, if you have another usable card handy, just to put some music on and test with, it'll help pinpoint if the issue is the card or the phone at least.
Good idea, thx...
I had similar issues with other music programs and video programs too. Not the stock ones. Pretty much what seemed to be happening is when the phone went to sleep it cut off its connection using up its buffer then stopping. Then when I woke it up it would start playing again. Best solution I have found was to just use mortplayer. This seems to love the HD2. I will get about .01 second skip when it locks, and then when it sleeps but pretty much doesn't miss a beat. I always listen to streaming radio too so that may be an issue of mine. Since your running music off a sd card and the stock HD2 sim cards are supposed to suck you may wanna try a different card to test it.
this happened to me when i set the lockscreen to show the animated arrows. It seems it animates them every few seconds even when the screen is off.
Disabled them again and it was fixed.
Been editing the lockscreen? or installed a new lockscreen recently?
I'll try both of those suggestions, thanks guys!
I would really like to keep using the sense music player though, as I like it a lot. This also seems to happen in Slacker too...
How do I disable the arrows?
No playing with the lock screen. Only the stock one, or any edits that come with cooked ROMs. However, this has been happening through multiple ROMs, and with hard resets each time...

not the arrows then, , something running in teh background, that the phone is having to ramp up the processor to perform.
Dunno what to suggest, sorry, maybe something installed to sd card, that is making the music pause when read? does it do it when the mp3 is on main memory?
I9000 cannot play mp3 smoothly unless completely disable data network.
Does any feel that the I9000 cannot play mp3 smoothly?
It always has some pause (0.3~0.5 seconds) during play any mp3 even in 128 kbps CBR [around pause for 5-8 times in each 5 mins mp3]
I just found that, if GPRS/EDGE/3G(HSDPA) is turned on, this problem will be happened. That is no problem with Wifi.
One more, if you try to keep the Data connection e.g. downloading a large file via GPRS, that will be no problem as well.
I do thank that when any app/module want to access the Internet and "start" the data connection, this "start" will trigger the mp3 un-smooth problem.
Anyone playing with issue as well?
Am I alone?
Have no issues of the sort, FLAC and mp3s play flawlessly.
Stock rom, JF3, non-rooted, no ATK or taskkillers in general.
maybe your phone is sync-ing too much stuff in the background
try turning off Facebook, email sync, tweet sync, etc, etc
I played a lot of Flacs with mine and it did have tiny pauses now and then as you described. Sounded as if the cpu was busy (synching or doing something else) or maybe there was heavy I/O activity and we know the SGS isn't brilliant at that.... in any case, decoding lagged sometimes.
Still, the pauses were fractions of a second and fairly rare (perhaps once every 15 minutes or so). Audible, but tolerable given the overall good audio quality of the gadget.
I am new from i9000 and I have the similar issue.
Although I had disable all the network traffic (APN/WIFI) and I was only running the MP3 player, the song still played with some stop.
I had try lots of MP3 player apps, such as Astro player, TuneWiki, Kiss Music Player, MixZing, etc. No one can play song smoothly on my device.
Can anyone tell me how to improve it?
glitches if flac
Just another confirmation I've noticed the same issue with flacs on JG4. I get a glitch every 5 to 10 minutes. I've not listened to many mp3s so I don't know if it happens with them as well.
Yeah mines the same. Gets worse when the signal is dropping, almost useless when im on the train.
Contemplating about using my trusty itouch just to listen to music. Btw its unrooted with the one click lag fix

Its the firmware, I have tried many since the phone came out and about 50% of the firmwares have this problem, songs fine but every few mins there is a tiny pause/skip or what you want to call it, I have just moved to jpc but not tried any music yet to see if this one has same issue, but seeing as most are leaked there is always going to be an issue with something, guess the time we can really complain is when the real 2.2 comes out, if that has problems then its fair to have a go at Samsung.
I've upgraded to JM2 now, and I still don't have any troubles with my music player. mp3s and FLAC, no skipping or anything. Just smooth.
Oh and btw, I play my music from the internal SD.
Same problem here on JM6 (with and without ryanZa lagfix) with mp3's and videos.
No matter if internal or external sd card. Glitches occur approx. every 3- 5 minutes.
I'm not sure but i think there were no problems with stock JF3 firmware.
Edit:
Flashed back to stock JF3.
Music is playing flawlessly.

Eww leak on a clock ...
hey there. Please check if you are scrobbling music on your phone through last.fm!
I had this problem too. I used many scrobblers same problem. I disabled it now
another thing to check
many music player software will automatically download lyrics and arbum arts to the phone, those can also slow down and make it sluggish
Solution is not existed under 2.1, but don't worry

I'd like to change to I9000 and now I have HTC Desire, and I know what about you say. Under Eclair the garbage collection is terrible. Every garbage collection takes 0.1-3 secs, and then everything frezze.
Don't worry the Froyo will cure this - have to wait only 2-3 wks.
In the past month or so I have been experiencing stuttering in music being played back from my Samsung Focus. The first time I experienced this was on a plane ride. After playing for about 10 minutes the current track would begin to stutter and eventually stop altogether. If I left the device alone for about 10 seconds the music would begin to play sometimes; however, the device would hang causing me to have to reset the device (power cycle).
This also happens while sitting at my desk at work, while in the car (using the aux connection) and while in the gym.
I was wondering if this is a pervasive issue, or whether my experience is a one-off.
As background information, the music I am playing is synced music (not streaming tracks) and the stuttering never happens with podcasts.
Thanks and Happy New Year.
Do you have a sd card installed?
If you have an SD Card installed yes, I've seen this.
One thing that you might wish to try as I've been looking to see if others are seeing the same pattern is if you do have an SD Card installed; try playing back Music or Video with the Focus Plugged/Charging vs Unplugged/On Battery. My personal experience is that when using external power I don't have any issues but on battery the issues will increase as the battery drains down.
No sd card here and this happens to me all the time. It's rather annoying. I don't remember where but im pretty sure that i read the Microsoft has been able to recreate this bug and plans to fix it.
I don't have an SD card installed and never have.
I was considering a hard reset today to see if it solves the problem. I did note; however, if I play the music through the rear speaker (no headphones plugged in), then the stuttering does not happen.
Bizarre.
M
I just started experiencing this while using it on a plane. I have an SD card installed, but that doesn't seem to make a difference if the above posters are also having issues. I've found that turning the screen on gets the music playing again. You don't even have to unlock it, just turn it on and it goes. One time I had the full-on lockup and had to reset.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I came across this discussion:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsphone7/thread/06f898e8-29f6-4cc7-aa44-705f58506c4e/#2cb26806-3837-46e1-b751-5a1a3232308b
It appears that MS are aware of this issue.
Thanks

Good Morning,
So, the problem continue to grow until the phone would barely get through a whole song before completely freezing up requiring a soft reset.
So, over the last few days I have completed a hard reset and have slowly added applications to see whether it was any particular app. Obviously, this is anecdotal evidence and cannot be considered absolute. Alternative issues could be memory management (fragmentation, etc.), or some other app:OS interaction.
After the hard reset I completed my account information so I could continue to use my mobile for business and added my entire music collection from zune - approxiamtely 1 GB. I played music for 2 hours with no stuttering, etc.
Second day - I added weather bug (love the app) and played music all day with no stuttering, etc.
Third day, added pdf reader, played music with no stuttering, etc.
Fourth day added shazam (no music playback issues) then added xbox extras (no music playback issues), added Crackdown 2....played the game.....had slight stuttering issues on every fourth or fifth piece of music played.
I've stopped at this point to see whether the issue becomes more common.
Hopefully this helps the community determine the cause, if any.
M
I had this issue the other day when I was listening to the music through my headphones while at work.. it would randomly cut out every other song or so. I would push the pause/play button on the headset and it would start up again. After I turned the phone off and on again it stopped doing it and haven't had the problem since
Hi Guys.
I have been in this forum for a while now and have found it hugely helpful. I have never needed to ask a question but this his me truly stumped.
I am running Andriod 2.2 with the latest version of OCLF. I use launched pro and and have a clock widget from beautiful widgets.
On friday, for no reason, the clock widget suddenly stopped working. There was a message telling to remove and replace it to get the updated version. I so did this and for a while it was fine but then the same thing happened. I decided that i couldn't be bothered to fix it there and then i so deleted the application and carried on with me day.
The reason i bring up this uninteresting fact is that at the same time, my phones ability to produce sounds has taken a turn for the worse. I listen to a lot of music on my phone and there have always been the odd stops and skips in songs, its annoying but i have gotten used to it. Since friday the stops and skips have been replaced by a juddering (like a static sound over the top of the music). THis is not just limited to music playback either. I get the same juddering when my text message sound goes off or a call comes in and the juddering is present on both head phones and the phones speaker.
If i am honest the juddering *Sounds* like its a hardware problem like a lose connection or a crossed wire, but since its in both the speak and the headphones i dodnt see how that could be the case.
It is almost like the phone is struggling to keep up.
I have also noticed increased battery drain during this time too.
I appreciate that this is all a bit vague but any help would be fantastic!
Thanks
I see two options:
- install System Panel App and let it monitor CPU usage. This could show the offending process or app which is eating CPU
- or bite the bullet and do a factory reset.
Thanks for that.
I have been monitoring my phones stats for the past few hours and the CPU usage is hovering around 50% with just the music player running. Is this normal?
It's not normal... Maybe you have some corrupted file or smthing... Try a factory reset. If you backup your contacts, calendar
... It's not a lot of work.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Thanks. It seems to be the MediaServer service that is eating all of my resources. When there is music playing its consuming 25% - 30% of my CPU.
Hello,
My music player ( pre-installed in Milestone 2 UK retail ) go freeze sometimes, especially after a song finished.
This happened randomly and not so frequently, sometime music player works perfect even I played all songs ( 80+ songs ). So I don't know whether a solution really works immediately.
After the music player freezed, I cannot operate any thing in the player interface, just force close the player in process manager, restart the player, then I can't play songs anymore ( freeze again ) .
And, I can't start any SD-related apps like video players and some games ( like Asphalt 6 ). But I can copy/cut files in the file manager.
Remount SD card or reboot the phone, everything backs to normal.
Is this the microSD's problem?
I tried different ways to format it but never solve the problem, and, Watching movies/Playing games goes well. I also try to replace the music playing libs with Droid X's (http://yuanjie.name/entry/milestone-2-mp3-crackling-playback-issue-solved), but music player freeze again last night.
I have no idea what happened.
Thanks in advance.
Try an alternative music player such as WinAmp or PowerAmp.
Check if your problem persists.

Thank you very much!
I'm try PowerAMP now, I really enjoy this powerful app.
I'll give a feedback if it doesn't freeze after several days.
This looks like SD Card issue. New player won't help IMO. Try testing on another dard.
I really think it's a kernel problem, or at least a problem with the media scanner. Sadly, I think we'll have to wait for GB update =/

I read the thread, it has some similarities with the problems that waigx and I are facing. Can you open any other application after PowerAMP shuts down? Does it really shuts down or crash (stays in memory but doesn't execute anything)? Can you open a file manager when this happens?
I'm using Cubed as my player - though all other players I tried (default from Motorola, Meridian, PowerAMP, WinAmp) behaved exactly the same.
Sometimes the player keeps on thinking it is still playing (i.e. track progress is moving without sound), but usually it just ends up with ANR. All other applications [that I need] seem to work fine after this. I do seem to remember Goggles and Camera not responding after a crash, but they crash on their own anyways, so can't really put blame on music player crashing.
A couple of times I did have a case where I couldn't open up SD card anymore, but I've gotten so used to this (8 hours of work+music with 2-3 crashes [or more?] every day) that I stopped trying - just reboot and continue where I left off.
The crashes happen around the same time (but not exact) - around lunch, then at around 3-4pm. Sometimes it also crashes when I'm on my way home ~6-7pm. I think it is somewhat related to power management - I notice it crashes more often as the battery is going down (although I do charge pretty much every night) and there's that "standby called" log message. I did try various battery settings with no luck - any suggestions what I could try more?
There were also a couple of times where I would just leave it at rest after a crash, then start Angry Birds (seemed to reset media/sound system or something), or just wait 15-30 minutes and the sound would come back and the player would unfreeze after a force close and everything would work fine. Until the next crash, that is.
I'll try the remount SD trick and I'll double check the file manager the next time it does this - presumably just after lunch on Monday
I freezed the media scanner with Titanium Backup and scanned music media with PowerAMP, but I had the same problem afterwards... Looks like a deeper problem or a problem with the sd card

This thing has worked on my gf's milestone 2 ... but I am not sure if it will work for you ...
1.) Backup ur device/settings/messages etc
2.) Factory reset the device
3.) Sign in your motoblur a/c after factory reset
Immediately after that
4.) Open connected Music Player .. press menu button and find the options for tunewiki lyrics/covert art downloader ... uncheck all of those
5) Settings->DataManager-> somewhere u will find similar options as above .. disable all of those
Basic Idea is to completely diasble all sort of data that the connected Music Player will ever need ....
Sorry, I could not give you the exact Menu operations because I dont have the device with right now... But it works if u r ready to do the factory reset...
You will actually like the Connected Music Player after this because it has a nice shoutcast integration and neither does it crash so often like Winamp...
Also as far as I know the bug with the Connected Music Player is such that Music in all sort of other players including Winamp also stops working ..
Tell me if it works

My Goggles and Camera also always crashed long time ago, but your problems is really stranger than mine.
I think you should WIPE your phone ( don't forget backup data before it ).
Before I flashed the Argen2Stone ROM, I suffered from the same problem. The CMP froze spontaneously.
Now - after using A2S - I never recognized such a behavior again.

Hey anupash,
I really appreciate for your detailed answer, I was bought PowerAMP. Even thought it cost $4.99, but I think it worth that.
I delete up CMP in the file system, my phone runs well in these days. Players like Winamp, realone are using system decode libs, so they also meet some problems I guess.
Connected Music Player have a great integration with the whole system, but I need data sync and album-arts.
Thank you again, If I meet additional problems I'll post in this thread later.
Best regards.

File manager seemed to work - at least for browsing the folders.
Unmounting SD killed the player. Remounting it back and trying to play anything made the phone reboot on it's own. Go figure.

Thanks for the tip Sadly, I don't have time for this now - as I mentioned - I pretty much got used to it constantly crashing... But I'll probably do that if the upcoming (hopefully soon...) MotoEurope update doesn't help.
Im having this problem also. Random freezes at playback... using winamp thereĀ“s no problem...
