Hey guys,
I am unable to use 3g/GPRS on MTNL Mumbai's network. I have tried almost all combinations in the settings, but whatever I do; I ALWAYS get "Cannot connect for unknown reason.....".
If someone has any insight on this, please help!
I am beginning to feel this might be a SIM issue. The customer care confirms that I have the 3G service activated.
PS. I have a HTC HD2 and a Nokia N95 and I can't connect using any of them.
did u get ur phone from ur provider? or another one?
if not u would sometimes have to add in ur service isp
well thats what i had to do anyway
MTNL 3G /GPRS setting for MTNL Mumbai N95
Hi,
I have written the procedure for manual 3G setting on any mobile. You can do the manual setting yourself..If any problem,do let me know.
just see if it helps..
teleguru.in how to page and go to gprs/3g settings
on this page you ctrl +F for N90 and follw the same procedure.the only thing to take care is if you have postpaid enter APN as"gprsmtnlmum" and for prepaid it should be "gprsppsmum".
Just see if it helps.
in HTC HD 2 too you can do the similar settings.
dial number
apn
username & passwords are important which are common for all handsets.
cheers!
gaurang
teleguru.in
first activate the 3g service...from s provider.
ALL MTNL APN are changed to mtnl.net
That means post paid and prepaid or Mumbai or Delhi has one APN that is mtnl.net

I have recently unlocked my phone so that I may use it on Vodafone as the O2 coverage in my area is not the best.
My question is is it possible to log onto to the Vodafone GPRS system with my XDA.
If so how do I configure my XDA so that it works.

im having the same problem
GPS
Youll need a slieve or gps reciever for the nav system to work. it will work fine with vodaphone, just not on its own as a hand set.
Vodafone GPRS Settings
Hi Vodafone GPRS setting on XDA are as follows: Start/Setting then connection tab, click Connections and on My ISP, add a new modem connection. Enter name i.e. Vodafone then select modem type Cellular Line(GPRS).Internet Access point is 'Internet' if your on contract, and 'pp.vodafone..co.uk' if your on pay as you go. Next user name is web and password is web. That's it your done, go surf.
Re: Vodafone GPRS Settings
Tried your connection setup as suggested and got the message 'No modem at above number'. Any clue what next, Thanx
Vodafone GPRS Settings
As far as I can see these settings work fine on the XDA1, I do not have access to a XDA2 so i cannot confirm if these settings will work on XDA2.
Doh! after categorically stating I had followed gadgetnet's advice and couldn't still get web access on my xda2 I have to eat humble pie. Gadgetnet's advice is spot on but ofcourse technonerds like me have to first of all check that their service provider has GPRS enabled their sim cards. I got Vodafone to enable GPRS on my sim (simply a phone call request made to their call centre) and half an hour later I was surfin in fine style. Remember if you want to access Adult sites like the National Lottery you have to go on line by other means to the vodafone website and set it up. Takes about 15mins with credit card as ID of age.
Vodafone GPRS Settings
Followed gadgetnet's instructions to the letter, worked a treat first time. Really impressed with the service far better thatn O2's. So thankyou gadgetnet.

Im sorry for being daft but when u say sim unlocked, does it mean it will work on any network in the world? Or just diff networks in the country u bought it in? Im askin cause im in india and i hope it works here

I tried to create a new APN with "www" but once I selected it as the default APN, my GPRS stopped working. I have not changed any other settings. Please could anyone help.

Gprs settings not recieving from airtel.
I am using Airtel as it Is..... can someone tell me what settings work on my stock HTC magic phone. I have Airtel live activated. And I was very able to browse and log in to my mails etc. (The customer care guy was surprised that I had been able to access mails on Airtel, however I dont y he felt so). But when I went on roaming I was not able to access my mails but only cue browse the net. Then I tried resetting my fone to factory settings losing the Airtel live settings. Then called up Airtel and asked to send the settings, BUT THEY SAID THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO SEND THE SETTINGS TO MY CELL AS I WAS IN ROAMING.
Then even when I came back to local, they were not able to send me the gprs/mobile office settings to my magic. Any idea guys ......?
not able to avail 100MB plan from airtel
After repeatedly making requests to airtel customer care, I am not able to get the free 100 MB plan, which comes with new Airtel magic, activated on my handset.
It seems that Airtel is not yet technically equipped to support android handsets.
I am using AirtelLive and paying 100Rs/month for usage
Even I am also facing the same problem. SSL sites not opening up. Not able to access gmail/gtalk/Android Market on my GPRS connection. Have a Vodafone connection.
Tried the "www" APN settings thing.
Didn't work.
Any breakthrough so far?
After going through a few forums, I guess its a problem with the APN. Many people suggest clearing the proxy and the port fields. I tried that. But then, my EDGE connection was lost and I couldn't connect to the net. Following are the current APN settings that I am using:
Name: Vodafone live
APN : portalnmms
Proxy: 10.10.1.100
Port : 9401
MCC : 404
MNC : 27
APN type: default
If anyone is using any other settings on Vodafone, Do inform.

Well I have magic (not bought from airtel, but imported from TW), I have taken 399 gprs plan and every thing works fine. I sync exchange mail, gmail, yahoo mail, browse including secure sites. No problems at all.
1) You need to get mobile office GPRS plan activated on your number
2) APN settings are simple -> Set APN to airtelgprs.com and leave all other settings as is and set APN type to default, if your mobile office is activated you can see all you data stuff working.
Update: I have this from June 09 even before HTC launched Magic with Airtel
Subhash
APN issue
I flashed my HTC Magic to Amon Ra's 1.6 ROM. Everything works perfectly except gprs. The baffling thing is that when I put in some random settings for the APN, they get saved, of course it doesn't work, but when I add the correct settings, the new APN doesn't appear in the list at all and the gprs does not work. I am using a vodafone connection. Any ideas?

Does anyone know the GPRS/EDGE settings for Aircel for the HTC P3400? Their customer care is useless.....
Aircel GPRS Settings
Go to start>>Settings>>connections>>add a new modem connection
Now Enter name of the connection aircelgprs
select a modem cellular Line (GPRS)
Now click next and type aircelgprs wherever asked
thats it
it works
Well sometimes that doesnt work you could also try this
Start => Settings=> Connections=>
connection name: Aircel Online
select a modem: Cellular line GPRS
Access point name: aircelgprs
Remember alphabets are case sensitive.
OK, so can anybody give me GPRS/EDGE settings for Vodafone, India ?
I called the customer care but they don't know a thing.
So, if anybody knows then do share.
Thanks

Vodafone has two services, Live and Mobile Connect. Which one are you talking about?
For Vodafone Connect:
Provide www as the access point.
For Vodafone Live:
Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=390035
I think the access point name for aircel gprs is "aircelgprs.po" for post paid and "aircelgprs.pr" for prepaid. correct me if i am wrong. Restart your phone after configuring the connection.
I got same problem doing this also no internet conn.
error is cannot connect with current settings.
APN aircelweb, send PI to 121 first.

It does not work for me on my ADP1/G1, tried these settings on Nokia NGAGE, without server/port but with authentication as normal then only it got connected in 2G mode.
Anyone, any break through so far?
Thats true I went to tech department BKC in mumbai and bull**** they r telling me throw away g1 and buy nokia or sony they support that, I asked them to find root cause but all lazy bhayas airtel contractors in office and dont want to explore for cause, so I dont use their gprs only call minutes...
Now I'm with aircel for gprs edge, g1 works wonders with it and good network coverage!!
ok if you have rooted your phone and use cyanogenmod 5.0.7 ROM you can use now MTNL 3g or edge now, I triied no sooner it was released and it works great, the CM5 rom is available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623496 but with caution read complete do it carefully
after installing CM5 rom now you go to APN setting you see MTNL setting already exist, make the authentication to PAP, and APN to right name like for mumbai prepaid - gprsppsmum thats it Happy MTNLing now This worked for me this way...
but to my exprience compared to others, MTNL speed is slow and have internet break while travelling or even some still locations and some MTNL cell site do not give information of location so my location in google maps does not work, MTNL may be champ in dsl internet but not in mobile internet!!
Solution?
Hey,
Has anyone found a solution to this yet? I am still stuck at the authentication error.. surprising that Android doesn't support plain-text authentication..
CUGWMUI
mtnl 3G mumbai

ALL MTNL APN are changed to mtnl.net
That means post paid and prepaid or Mumbai or Delhi has one APN that is mtnl.net
