Will the EVO 4G hardware be close enough to the HD2 for it to help the Android on HTC project to put Android on the HD2? Any thoughts?

An interesting concept, there are those that are asking if Windows Phone7 is going to work with the HTC HD2 as well. Be nice if we could choose either. The HD2 is a lovely piece of kit.
when is the evo actually out? nobody got a whiff of a leaked rom?
got an hd2 myself, would love to get android

May the force be with you
I'm not so sure about this....
With the Evo not coming to UK waters and no other screen size planned this side of the pond the ROM on the HD2 may well be the only answer.
However, lets not forget.. the Evo has a lot inside which will be different to the HD2 and these short comings won't make the HD2 an Evo in disguise.
It may end up being a sheep in wolf's clothing.
I don't think you'll see it because of driver issues but if enough people want it anything is possible.

Tell that to Winterboard and AndroidLock. But yes, theming isn't supported natively.
However the iPhone port of Android is an actual native port, loaded using OpeniBoot, a custom "iBoot"-style bootloader. And you thought the HTCSPL system was tricky...

Belated, but May the Fourth be with you.
I find it quite unlikely. Developers are still trying to get Android EMULATED, not installed, on the Touch Pro, and that version still suffers from poor battery life and frequent errors.
You can't just drag and drop ROMS from completely different operating systems onto different phones; otherwise, all phones would be sold without an OS installed.
The two phones may be similar in regards to features, but the insides are completely different. For example, the Evo has a maXTouch sensor, while the HD2 does not. So, while you may be able to get Android emulated on the HD2, it doesn't look like it's going to be very possible to transform it into an Evo by giving it the latter's ROM.

Exist any WM6.1 ROM for HTC Dream ? Please dont ask me why I need this.
Thanks.
No, not going to happen, been asked many, many, many times already.
why not ? where is the problem to cook non official ROM ?
For one, its a waste of a perfectly good phone to put that CRAP on it. If you want a piece of crap, buy a piece of crap.
Second, the required drivers simply don't exist.
What do you men crap ? OK, the second explanation is better.
I think lbcoder got it right. windows mobile IS Junk. I have a Kaiser in addition to the G1. The Kaiser has great hardware minus the KB, small screen, and quiet speaker, but it has a horrific OS e.g. It's slow, locks up, restarts itself for no reason.
The G1 however has a great OS that needs little or no changing at all, but dumbed down hardware.

Bottom line is if you want WinMo, buy a WinMo phone. Most of the hackers working on HTC Dream are working on Android.
Oh yeah and use the search.

Now that I think about it; I sure wouldn't mind the ability to dual boot. Not even sure why but maybe just for that hell of it.
Makes no sense
I had the T-mobile Dash before the G1 and wound up giving the dash to my wife. I was helping her learn to use it and only then did I realise how goofy the setup of it all is. They say the beauty of it is that it tries to emulate the Windows experience, but if my desktop worked like that...I'ld have a mac.

because there is nothing majorly wrong with wm6.5 and senseUI on the HD2. WinMo6.5 is a lot more flexible in terms of functionality, connectability, and programmable comparing to android and iphoneOS. People just love to ***** whenever they can...

Of course it would be cool... and it will happen eventually. But nobody should get this phone for that reason or be expecting android anytime soon. If you hate WinMo, you shouldn't buy a WinMo phone.
Also, there's no reason for people to make threads asking when it's gonna happen or trying to rush the developers. They're doing there best and doing a great job... but they have their own lives and it's a very complicated process porting linux. It'll happen when it happens. Don't get an HD2 expecting it.
has this not already been done?? im sure there is an android rom that lets you choose at startup whether you want to run WinMo6.5 or Android from the SD card, dont hold me to this but im sure i read it somewhere a few weeks back and they were just ironing out the final creases then!

Not for the HD2. They are still working on the linux kernel. They have working ports for the first HD, the TP2 and a lot of other msm72xx WinMo phones.

Envy HD2 owners that able to run BOTH Windows Phone 7 and Android their device?
Anybody here wish that it's available for our G2/DZ too?
but technically, is it even possible?
Let's give your opinion.
Get the HD2 then
Is WP7 really nice that you want to run on a G2/DZ? Personally, I don't like the interface of WP7, but I must admit that if that were possible, I would give it a try and install. Just because I'm a curious cat. LOL.

Me too, not so interest with WP7.
But for the sake of my "geek-ness", I want ALL that, in my phone.
I have both the HD2 and the G2. I run WP7 on the HD. it is flawless. would love to try on thwe vision. however i beleive that the HD2 is the only non-wp7 that has the hardware to run it... if the vision had a stock clock spd of 1GHZ then maybe.....but it does not...no matter it can be overclocked....that is prob the nail in the coffin, plus the button layout is very important... i hope im wrong. but i do love having both..hehe....u can get a HD2' for $29.99 on contract or new line if u can find one

eadams1975: do check on my flag again. I'm not in US dude.
and the POWER in HD2 is not as good as HTC Vision. :d
did not look at your flag..oops. i have no doubts of potential with the G2 thats why i picked one up for my new mod toy
I have a HD2 too and had installed dual boot WM/Android but I never would have installed WP7. Yerk. And definitely don't want it on my Z!

Do we need a thread about this every week because someone does not understand how to search? NO YOU CANT WP7 IS NOT OPEN SOURCE.
Isn't the only reason WP7 is sort-of on the HD2 that Microsoft/HTC themselves ported it before the other HTC WP7 phones were released ? Maybe I'm wrong but that is my assumption.
WP7 isn't going to happen on the Vision because the necessary drivers will be missing, and without source code it would be a huge job to fix this.

First, thanks for your hard time to remind people to "search before you post".
It's just a GENERAL DISCUSSION on "ENVYING the HD2 owners able to dual boot WP7 and Android".
If in some way, this thread made you feel that it's a request/demand/question, then I'm sorry.
The task would be mammoth, and there's no hardware drivers etc, and not much info on WP7, so not likely to happen. Closing, as this will likely become another flame war

That is correct, but strangely all the backlighting of the buttons etc worked out of the box, buttons it is easy to fix if you want.
Just a little test for fun nothing else, also saw that there was support for mdpi so theoretically it could be working on Hero with some manual intervention.
Another thing to, boot up without problems

Yes, it is foolish to ask for a ROM that's meant to run on tablets to be made for phones. But I never have never said and never will say no to a new ROM...
Sent from my Hero using XDA App
Yes it's going to run like ass and our screens won't do any good either.
But... as always, I'm eager to see what crazy stuff the ROM-people come up with.
but the sdk version includes some feature of switching from tablet to mobile mode by simply changing resolution... they won't have included it if it wasn't meant to be run on mobiles, and in 3.1, mobile (2.x) and tablet (3.0) development lines shall be joined (says wikipedia lol). moreover, lots of people out here said it would be impossible to run 2.2 and 2.3 on hero, and right now i'm looking at my rooted android 2.3 hero which is incredibly smooth and stable (way better than with stock os). so why shouldn't it be possible? ele just said even backlight of the buttons worked out of the box, which was not case in 2.x. i'm still believing in our developers (although i can't code well enough to support them ) and i'm sure they'll do some magic
greets, Summoner
Do you really use wikipedia for truths? Anyone can add to Wiki?!
no i don't... i just think it sounds possible... otherwise, there would be two future development lines which the consequence would be that there were VERY different features depending where more / the better devs work on lol^^
i didn't claim it was the absolute truth, otherwise i wouldn't have explicitly said it came from wiki ...
greets Summoner

It might be not letting go of the past but i'm personally steering away from Windows mobile. In fact i had an Android port on my Dual Touch . That was the only way i could use it, with out wanting to kill someone when i was done with it.

I actually like the metro look. When Windows 8 comes out I want to try and find a way to get it to work on my Asus transformer. I would relish the idea of having devices that all run windows OS's again, esp since I'm a windows dev I could write apps myself if they don't exist. I'm too lazy to learn android atm.
