Hi,
Ive got a problem. Yesterday i did the update from Dude 1.1 to 1.2, first without wiping, but then the G1 reboot when i want to download an app.
So i wiped it and it works fine. INternal Memory is 355MB free.
Today i wanna delete the APP SMS/MMS because i use chompSMS, but the G1 says that it cant delete. ("Uninstall not successful" "SMS/MMS could not be uninstalled")
So what could i do?

if im not wrong in saying this, the stock sms mms program needs to be on the phone. chomp doesnt get your messages
it gets them from the stock messaging app.
Not sure what you're trying to uninstall (haven't heard of an app called SMS/MMS). However, if you're trying to remove the application "Messaging", you can't. Just disable notifications in the Messaging program and use chomp as the default.
Its the same with this Amazon Mp3 app, i cant uninstall it, what do i wrong? Or how can i get this app off my phone( dude 1.2 full)

If you are using a G1 build, its in /system/app. Remount the system partition and delete it from that directory.

But now I now i'll gonna be beaten for that question, but can you explain me what you mean with 'remount the system partition"?
I've looked it up with ASTRO Filemanager and its really in /system/app, but i cant delete it from there, if i want to it says again "error deleting file".
Just searched a bit around and found the remount command that i know from a2sd, so i think i have to go to Terminal at G1,

#mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
#rm com.amazon.mp3 /system/app
Is this right? So then i'm gonna eating my shoes But i think it isnt so i ask you before i delete complete G1

Yes, you remount it that way (or with DroidSans) and rm the Amazon file. I would still recommend against deleting the messaging one though.
I tried it this way, but it says error "Read only file".
I think i just let it on the phone and try to ignore that app.

that will remove amazon but removing messaging will make your system EXTREMELY unstable and most likely unusable
The problem was that i don't add the Fileending ".apk"

Got the next problem, now i want to delete the Messenger App 'IM' but even if i do the same with 'amazon mp3' it says rm: cannot remove '/system/app/com.android.im.apk': No such file or directory
So what i am doing wrong, i tried it with "rm -r /system/app/com.android.im.apk"
"rm -r /system/app/com.android.im"
And many more but i get ever the same output -> No such file...
That means theres no such file...doesn't exist.
IT might be named IM.apk

I dont know how it tells me 'com.android.im' in ASTRO Filebrowser, and why i could delete it with IM.apk
With AmazonMP3 i have also to write: com.amazon.mp3.apk

spend a couple bucks and get root explorer, it is well worth it, and then its very easy to delete anything after that.
Wait wait let me get this right ... with root explorer i could avoid the whole going to terminal and typing all that code and just simply delete the apk from root explorer program and thats it >?

I'm testing right now..
I need to uninstall swype and reinstall it. Ive tried over writing it with the default apk but its not removing a theme I installed with metamorph. If I can uninstall it, a fresh install should fix it.
I just dont know how to remove it
I don't know if you want to go to this extreme, but I did. I fudged up the phone real good by removing and installing stuff. I finally got fed up and flashed it back to stock and applied root again. This time I'll keep my fingers out of it. I hated touchwiz in the beginning, but now it's kinda growing on me. I've never had an iphone but the home and drawer remind me of iphone wannabe. It's okay for now.

There a tool over at sdx-developers that can remove that when root explorer can't. I forget the name of it. There's also a pay app in the market that I think is called root manager that can successfully remove crap too. I didn't have much luck putting the general swype 1.61 in. It refused to install. That's when I think I just flashed it back to factory image. A full reset/wipe wouldn't fix it either.

I had to do this a few days ago for similar reasons. This is what I did:
First, you have to open your browser or other app with a text field. Select the text field then long press the text field again and switch the input method to the stock android kb.
Next, you have to make sure /system is mounted as r/w. The early versions of the the rooting scripts did not remount correctly but the newer ones supposedly fix it. I just looked in the initial rooting .bat file (on the PC) for the remount command and used adb to remount /system.
You can test if it's remounted correctly by renaming Swype.apk to Swype.bak with Root Explorer then going up a level and back to /system/app. If it's not mounted correctly it will show as Swype.apk again. If it shows as Swype.bak still, then you just have to copy the original Swype.apk to /system/app and then switch input method back to Swype!

I don't know what's causing it but root explorer doesn't seem to work properly on the phone (not sdcard) filesystem in the system app folder. It's stuck in rw mode. People have said different things why but I forgot. I did noobnl's latest flash and it's still not working right. His script is removing the old root and my phone doesn't have that on there. I don't know what to tell ya. Maybe I should look for another root file manager.

I don't know if re-rooting will fix it or not. You could try. Here's the exact steps I took using adb from the PC:

ls /system/app/S* (just shows Swype.apk is in fact in /system/app)
mount -t rfs -o remount,rw /dev/block/stl9 /system
mv /system/app/Swype.apk /system/app/Swype.bak
ls /system/app/S* (just to confirm Swype.apk is now Swype.bak)
cp /sdcard/download/Swype.apk /system/app/Swype.apk (or replace first argument with path of the good Swype.apk on your phone)
ls /system/app/S* (just to confirm Swype.apk and Swype.bak are both there)
reboot (reboots the phone, dunno if its really necessary)

i am using SUFBS program (reed/write option enabled)
i tried use command in terminal:

If it is some files, causing this, then please send me yours, so i don't have to ask for them, when you have answered

It happens to me to at the first time, all you have to do is delete the files and paste them again.. xD if still didn't work, i'll post my files here so you can tried..
I have tried now, but it won't work. I would be glad if you posted your files :b
Have you set the right permissions for the files?
All files needs to be writeable. The easiest way to set the write permissions is to use root explorer.
Or if using terminal emulator: Chmod each file to: 777
After a lot of trying this worked for me:
1. Download xRecovery from here.
2. Copy three files to sdcard - xrecovery.tar, busybox, chargemon
3. Just in case, get Busybox from Market and install it.
4. Copy three files from sdcard to /system/bin - don't forget to mount system as r/w (you can do it with Root Explorer by simply clicking "mount r/w" button)
5. Chmod all three files to 777 - with Root Explorer, open context menu for file and select "Permissions" and make sure all 9 boxes are ticked. Or, use adb shell.
6. Turn off your phone normally.
7. Turn on and keep pressing back button, now you should enter xRecovery.

It is important to install xRecovery 0.1!!!
I have tried to install 0.3 first but it is not work on X8.

If you read the whole thread, then you would know, that it is the same that blagus said. And as i said, i did all that he said.
Use this files.. If didn't work, I don't know what to say, can't understand your problem..

Here did you pasted those files? Didn't you already having xrecovery running well, before you reflash your phone?
Now you get the story:
First of all, i tried in hours to get xRecovery work on my phone. Then succesfully, in some unknown way, i made it work.
Then i screwed up, and deleted the bin, so my phone wouldn't turn on.
Then i had to use SEUS to get my phone work, and I did that succesfully. But it was only 2.1 now.
Now i want 2.2 again, but can't make xRecovery work.
Weee it works now D I have no idea what I did diffrent this time, but it works now D thank you all for taking time, to help me ;b
And you're using 2.1 android, right? Is it rooted? If yes, all you have too do (and before that, delete the old files that you already pasted, except busybox..):
-put the files on your sdcard root;
-go to root explorer and to the sdcard folder;
- forget it busybox, just copy the other files;
- go to system/bin and then select the W/R option;
- then just paste them e restart your phone..
Then press a few times the back key, right after SE logo apears.. If you did't get anything, go again to the bin folder with root explorer and see if was created a folder with the xrecovery name.. If yes, just try again pressing back key until you get xrecovery menu..

you're going to need to mount the system first. I believe it's adb shell -> su -> then something. Can't remember now.
I went to /system/app and found most applications, but the only thing that I really want to find are the demo games, and for some reason I can't find them! I even went to /data/app and found the apk packages there, I deleted them but the games are still installed.
Any ideas?
Are they in /cust?
if i have not remembered wrongly, the demo games r in /system/app/..
what specific game(s) do u want to remove? i can give u the location tonight after work (as i stored the paths in my home pc..)
FYI. Mine are all in /cust/pccw/hk/app.

i did..
My phone didnt have any demo games and i found it weird couse in all the reviews i saw them in the menu screen...
my memory didnt fail me.. the 4 games that i removed were all in /system/app/
BubbleBash2.apk (Launcher: Bubble Bash 2)
IronMan2.apk (Launcher: Iron Man 2)
PrinceofPersiaZero.apk (Prince of Persia)
UNO.apk (Launcher: UNO)
btw, im with the hong kong B135 version..

yes, Wind Gr gives a stock android rom (not even hauwei has added anything) so its clean like water
Thanks everyone I found them in /cust/roadhound/au/app but for some reason I can't mount the location as R/W using Root Explorer.. my phone IS rooted.. I don't know why it does not let me mount it as R/W.. therefore I can't delete them!!
Any ideas on this?

Try using adb or you could try in terminal emulator:
Mount R/W

Mount R/O

mount -o remount,ro /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 /system
I can mount /system as R/W.. I just cant mount that directory in R/W .. it just opens as R/O even if I mount /system as R/W

And the apps are in cust_backup/image/cust_data/roadhound/au/app. The /cust directory is just a link to the cust_backup direcctory. Which is why you cant mount it RW

No.. you need to root it. It's quite easy to do.
Hi. Im running stock 7.1.1 and i got tired of google now launcher. I downloaded the pixel launcher but couldnt swipe left for google now. This is caused because the app is not system mounted. So i flashed twrp but it didnt stick,after 2 weeks of trying difrent ways to do it and giving up a few times i saw a post that said i have to root after the flash or it wont stick. Ok i now have a rooted 7.1.1 with twrp and i can do what i want.. or so i thought because i cant mount system rw and cant set any app to system. I tried one click app and adb. My friend tried to mount it through twrp terminal but it shows that system is empty. I saw some posts about it that said that there were 2 system folders, one mounted by twrp and second one that actually is system and cant be accesed. Right now febuary OTA security patch is rolling in and i downladed flash wire to update but it crashes on encrypting. I think that this problem is caused by the same thing. Can someone give me some instructions to mount that damn thing or am i doomed forever? ;_; sorry for my english and my noobish explanation btw.
Download and install BusyBox and a terminal emulator app if you haven't already. In terminal emulator type "su" without quotes then press enter to give it root access. On the next line type "mount busybox -o rw,remount system" also without the quotes and press enter. If you did it right it should just go to the next line without any errors. Doing this should give you rw access to system.

ok so i think it did the trick because there was no error still link2sd says : dev/block/platform/soc.0/f9824909.sdhci/by-name/system /system device or resource busy
