Hi, does any one know what's happened to the national rail app?
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I didn't even know there was one for Android! It's a brilliant app on the iPhone and if it exists on Android I'm on that in a flash...
So if it does exist where has it gone?...
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
do a search for UK national rail app Android, your see it has been out there but its no longer on market.
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
It's a protected application, the HTC Desire still hasn't been approved for access to protected apps on the market.
If you had it on a previous android handset and backed it up to the SD card, you' d be able to reinstall it from there.
I have it, but have no form of webhosting. Anybody want to PM me on how to do it and I will put it up for those that want it??
By the way, it works fine on the Desire
I found the app here:
http :// www . nationalrail . ktbm . com
Works a treat. Remove the spaces from the URL first. You will also need to manually install (as that location only allows the download).
"To prevent spam to the forums, new users are not permitted to post outside links in their messages. All new user accounts will be verified by moderators before this restriction is removed."
I obviously need my new (?!?!?!?!) account verified by moderators...grrr - could someone please fix that for me - isn't 6 years old enough? Thanks

It also disappeared from the market for g1's and heros so I'm guessing they are having issues

My apologies. Can I take it that you're after the actual time table then?

No, there is an app written by the bloke that writes the iPhone one that's quite a slick looking bit of kit.
It appears as purchased on my G1 but doesn't appear on anything else if you search market (and if you search for it on the g1 it brings back nothing). I'm guessing its been taken down due to licensing but we will see once the protected apps thing gets sorted out on the desire.
I take it you mean this app http://uk.androlib.com/android.application.com-ktbm-nationalrail-zDFC.aspx I had it on my Hero and loved it. Really miss it, dunno why I cant see it on the market though....
yes that's the 1, does any 1 know when its going to be available?

This is the official app and it is the copy protected one, the other unofficial ones were removed from the marketplace.
I understand that it is copy protected but I was saying that it is also not showing in the market any more on the g1 or the hero for some reason.

An email from HTC:
"This feature has been disabled per the carrier. If you wish to search for content that is something that would be blocked by a “safe search” then I would recommend going to Http://www.m.youtube.com using your Internet browser on the phone. This will allow you to search for things with out a filter."
Looks like Sprint has blocked this feature?! How lame.
Will re-post this info, as I see two threads on this same issue.
Just received the same response from HTC today.
Thanks for the great info!

Froyo should take care of that.

While I hate to see Pandora be the target of this, it's still a good thing. On ANY PC the uncontrolled and sometimes (on phones) unknown transmission of personal and location data would be outrageous and flagged immediately as a virus by any AV program. I understand that they need to make revenue from these free apps somehow but at what cost? Not to mention most paid apps still transmit data.
Why not provide a way of killing the data transmission? You have that option on almost every program on a PC, why not here? Or maybe give the option of ads or data transmission. The modern smart phone isn't just a toy for a lot of people anymore, it's their life and also a necessity because it holds every bit of information about them.
Google also needs clear cut explanations in the market of what exactly an app accesses with the given permissions. So an app needs access to my sdcard.... why? What's it doing that requires this access? Something like that. The current setup is too generic; Phone... okay, what the hell does that even mean? It just needs to be more informative or they need to change the permission structure so there are more specific permissions so 'Phone' doesn't give access to 20 different things.

It may just be a special app, but I doubt it. I think the MIUI was written for the KIRFers of all the apple knockoffs.

Another reason to not run Sense.
Carrieriq is asked for by sprint to be included in all Android phones, however, all of its features are turned off, so the only impact it has on you, the user is ~20kb of memory space less.

Probably wrong but the dropbox folder is for users that go to the market on their computers and download apps from there. You can have your phone download an app straight from your comp for those that don't know.
But aren't all there privacy issues understandable??? All the noobs that never mod their phones want a more pleasant experience....well this is what they have to give to get a better user experience...

Its easily disabled even if you don't use a ROM that strips it out (like Fresh Evo 4.2).
Here is how. Use titanium backup to freeze the following programs:
"HTC IQAgent 2.3.3"
"IQRD 2.3.3"
Freezing or uninstalling those 2 programs completely disables Carrior IQ. You can verify this yourself by looking at your logcat. You'll see some errors show up saying:
Unable to start service Intent {act=com.htc.android.iqagent.action.ui19 (has extras) }: not found.
This is caused by the system trying to start IQ, but failing. Uninstalling these programs should be ok, but I choose to freeze them just in case there are issues that arise from their removal.

It has a huge impact on the phone and is one of the main reasons why sense roms are slower than AOSP. There have been more than a few times I've found it using up about 30% of my CPU and causing everything else to run like crap.

I laugh at the "excusing" in this thread.
If Apple was doing this people would be flaming them and attack Apple/iphone as a whole.
Funny how that article says it's just now being found when we've known about it for over a year lol
What you guys don't seem to get is that they have been doing this for longer then you think! There are a few apps things running that do this in 2.1.

BTW, Is there any easy way to keep the system from trying to start CIQ after having removed it?
Think one thing: Regardless of OS companies want to know your steps by any means necessary. It is a shame that instead of asking people companies have to secretly steal personal information.

Hi,
First of much love to Android and may it be the best (and better than Apple)
I use Facebook additively and I installed Facebook for Android via Market.
Every time I post a status update or a check in using my HD2 I get " via mobile " instead of "via Andoid"
I would like to have "via Android" so everyone can see who great and versatile Android is.
I have uninstalled the Facebook app that came with the rom (HD2 NDT GINGER ROM Version 16.0) and downloaded and installed Facebook for Android via Market.
But this did not fix the problem so I checked my Facebook account settings and there wasn't anything there.
Does anyone know how to get "via Andriod" on Facebook?
P.s. I know you can change status via 3rd party apps and I prefer make the app do what it was designed to do.
FYI the android facebook app sucks ass even though everyone uses it...including me...

I have used the xda app but it clearly says "via xda" I would like via Android as I did installed it.
Account Settings are ok and there's nothing there to suggest there is a problem.
In fact, there is no suggestion I have Facebook for Android installed which is totally strange.

You can do this by going to the application’s page and clicking the "Contact Developer" link on the left hand side of the page.
Thanks for contacting Facebook,

Basically, this letter means XDA developers should run Facebook as they are complete idiots.
I know it used to say via Android instead of via mobile but it seems there was an update of the app at one point and it disappeared. To test if you want you could install an older version of Facebook on your phone by finding it's apk file online. This was done by Facebook though but at the rate their app is developing and the quality it is, it shouldn't come as a surprise to us that they make stupid mistakes. Facebook is a huge company that could easily make a better Android app and I don't understand why they don't care... I encourage you do give them a 1 star rating on the Android market and write what you think of their app there.

I second that one. FB app for Android is huge pile of bull ****. I'm using it myself and the number of bugs is enormous.
I remember I was seeing "via Android" signatures before but they must have changed something so now it's gone.

It's really weird that on my wall it clearly states "installed Facebook for Android"
So I have no idea what's going on!
I was running Windows 6.5 stock but Windows Mobile app is totally useless and had no Places feature. And then, I installed XDA app but that was not that impressive and gave a "XDA Windows Mobile" tag. As much as I like XDA I don't want it as a tag on all my posts.

Anything else We can do?
IMO, If you get anything like this. You deserve it! Almost just like on a PC. If your not smart enough to check your stuff before you put it on your phone, then stick to buying your apps. Don't open and launch things from emails you don't know about. Your not smart enough to know what sites are bad and how to control what your clicking through. By all means hurry and pirate an anti... app too please. Then I can charge you to fix it. XXX only make me money.
Did I miss anything? lol

I use a combo of several apps
Superuser (with PIN) for SU rights
AdFree - to block most ads
Droid Wall - to totally block data & WiFI on an app by app basis
LBE Privacy Guard - to remove specific permission from apps that require data access
One of the easiest thing to do, is only get apps from trusted sources, which will drastically cut down on risks
Finally, think twice about installing an app with a low number of downloads.

I agree 100% with this. The UI is super simple, and you can see how much data each app is using. It opened my eyes the first few times I used it as there were apps using data that had no real reason to. It didn't make sense to me.
As UBER mentioned, you can also disable GPS for apps like Angry Birds Space. I love how when you install a new app, a notification shows up up top reminding you to set permissions for that app.
Very basic, easy to use, and most importantly, powerful.

Most likely, any Russian or Chinese market for cracked apps, as most of the infected apps come from these two regions.
Also, any hacker board for cracked apps has a higher than average chance of having an infected app
