Using armons recovery there are 4 different options for wiping. I only use the first one. Wipe data.
Is it dangerous to apply the other wipes?
Also what do they do?
If they're not dangerous, what's the benefits of using them?

I rooted with casual and have the recovery installed. My question is I supposedly full wiped and flashed Goldeneye. My issue is it didnt full wipe because when I go into internal memory all the crap that should be gone, its folders are still there taking memory so I have to manually delete. Am I doing something wrong ?
When I had my htc a full wipe meant a full wipe Everything gone. Dont understand why its not happening on my s4.

most recoverys are set up to format data without touching the internal storage. this is a feature, not a bug. if you want to wipe internal, go to format, then format internal. easy peasy

Here is what I do when I flash a ROM. I am a bit OCD for flashing cleanly.
1) Boot into Recovery
2) Wipe Data (Factory reset)
3) Wipe Cache
4) Wipe Dalvik Cache
5) Format /System
6) Format /sdcard
Then I flash my ROM. Those steps will definitely clean everything out before you flash. Especially formatting /system and /sdcard.

just make sure you don't have anything you care about, like Roms or nandroids, in /sdcard.
fwiw this isn't a CASUAL issue, its a TWRP issue.
Awesome was looking for the correct way to do a Total Full Wipe in recovery.

It's a little over kill. Just need to wipe the caches and data. If you wipe system, just make sure you do it before you flash a rom. And make sure you flash a rom before you boot. Wiping system and then rebooting is detrimental to your phone.

Ya it might be a little bit overkill, but atleast this way you know everything is cleaned and wiped before you flash your ROM. I hate dirty flashing ROMS, so I prefer to be really thorough.

It might be overkill but I like to make sure its a complete wipe even if I have to overkill it. Thanks all for the replies.
EDIT: DO NOT FORMAT INTERNAL if you have twrp the part where you have to type in yes. You will have serious issues and will end up ODIN back to stock to repair. If you format internal in twrp phone will not boot up. You can enter recover but if you power off phone will not boot up again.
I need a 100% fresh start but a factory reset or flashing a new rom doesn't get rid of the system folder so busybox is e.g. always installed.

If that way u wanna do then u can flash a stock firmware and after that u reset the device from phone and start from rooting again
.
Could you use the recovery ? use the recovery to wipe data may be the fastest way

Yeah but when I use the wipe function in the recovery or from settings agter the wipe it stilll says e.g. that busybox is installed.
I use CWM recovery to wipe cache, dalvic cache, system partition, data partition and preload partition, then is 100% clean
1st run triangle away v3.00 then reflash the stock firmware using Mobile ODIN, the paid version, and just tick "wipe cache/data" and "wipe dalvik cache". If you don't want root then untick the everroot options and you now have a stock phone.
Cheers...
Sorry, Should of mentioned it will wipe EVERYTHING from internal storage. If you want to keep anything best to back up to PC...
Might be a stupid question, but anyone know how to do this? I want to only keep PSX And neo with no other data on it (Such as games that require downloaded data, apps and etc). Wiping data on CWM doesn't wipe everything (Yes I did cache and dalvik as well), would wiping the sdcard wipe everything and leave the ROM? Hopefully someone can help, thanks
Also, if the only way of wiping brings me back to stock/unrooted, would I still have CWM installed to install custom ROMs and such still?
These are the wipes you are looking for:
1. wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe cache partition
3. mounts and storage > format sdcard
4. advanced > wipe dalvik cache
That should leave you with a empty/clean internal sd card, no data (apps, settings, etc.), and your current rom and kernel.
if you want to completely wipe everything and go back to stock Android, just use one of the toolkit and flash stock image. it will wipe everything in the phone.
Or just fast boot the images including the userdata file it'll erase the entire phone memory. Toolkits are convenient but you should know how to use fastboot too it saved me when my recovery wouldn't boot and there was no ROM on the phone.

I want to do a FULL RESET. GoldenEye, the ROM I am using, just recommends that I do a factory reset and that I should be set...
I was wondering what would happen if I also checked the boxes for system, data...or any of the other boxes..I know that DATA is a no no but lets just say I did. What would happen? I'm curious.
But besides that if I were to check system, would i be safe? I just want to flash my goldenEye again on the cleanest possible device...:good:
maybe you could give me a little description of what would happen?
If you do the system that requires confirmation, you will not be able to boot an ROM. It messes up the partition.
Only do a factory reset. That wipes all user data, dalvik, and cache. When you install the ROM, it wipes the system itself.
What the OP says is what you need to do or you will likely end up with a dead phone. Instructions are their for a reason.

I'm currently using Purity Rom and I want to erase internal storage. If I do a factory reset/full wipe from recovery mode, nothing happens. All my appz and files are still there. How do I do that?
Update your recovery and wipe again. Also there is a option in your settings if you just want to wipe your data
A custom recovery purposely does not wipe the sd card. If you want to wipe that, in twrp, go to wipe, advanced, and wipe the internal sdcard. Cwm has something along those lines too.
