Hello fellow members of this forum. I have a Htc hermes and in the description of the phone(on Cnet.com) i clearly saw that the storage memory of the phone can be backed up by a microSD card. My question is why then when i install apps to the microSD card, does it take up space on the device as well? why can't the amount of apps able to be installed be limited by only the size of the microSD card?
Also why can't Gameloft games be installed to a microSD card? thanks guys for your response i'm sure it will help others too!
Shortcuts and other system stuff seem to be added, registry etc... Works fine otherwise even when doing a hard reset most apps will still work, some don't though...
Have always been able to install gameloft to sd card...

Hi guys,
I just bought a Micro SDHC 8GB memory card and I had problems with downloading music to the phone. It recognizes the card, so that should not be the problem. It wants to download the music the the phones hard disk and thats not what I want. It should go to the memory card. I tried to look for some setups in the setting section, but I couldn't find anything.
Help would be very nice
Thanks.
I don't know any option in normal roms which can do that.
I use OBEXInbox to save files transfered by bluetooth directly to SD Card.
What is OBEXinbox? Where can you get it?
Everytime I install new program to HD2 it asks me if I want to install into main memory or SD card. My PC windows experience says that it is advisable to install programs to main drive (C: usually). Does the same logic apply to WM devices? Or is it safe to install apps into SD card (which would leave more space on actual device)
It's really up to you where you install them. The only things to bear in mind are that the internal storage cannot be expanded, and you can remove the storage card.
The way I do this is to install anything that I think I'll really want to always have at hand on the device (essential apps like coreplayer, nitrogen etc..) That way, if I remove the storage card then my device still has my most favoured apps on it. Anything that I'm not too fussed about (games in my case) goes on the storage card.
It's your call completely, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with installing things on the storage card. In fact, I'd recommend doing it when you're installing non-essential apps so that you save internal storage for things that you don't have a choice with (MarketPlace apps, for example, or tweaks and mods).
Hope this helps mate.
ok, thanks for detailed reply. I will try to install apps to SD card, if that option becomes available during installation process. I am not switching SD cards, so it should be fine then.
one more question that is related to the first one... If I install application on SD card, then if I take the memory card out, put new ROM into phone and insert SD card back. Will applications run as before installing new ROM? Are all program files saved to SD card when installing or does it do some registry entries or save some files onto maine phone memory???
In my old JasJam I found that programs loaded faster when stored on the device storage as opposed to the SD card.
Is this the same on the HD2?
If you upgrade ROM then you will need to do a backup first then restore afterwards otherwise you will lose everything including the links to the programs on the SD Card (although the programs will still be there).
I use SPB backup to do this. It works well. I used it yesterday after I upgraded my O2 V1.43 ROM to HTC 1.66. The restore worked great
All Micro D cards aren't the same I paid a bit more and got a Class 6(fastest) 16GB card. Class 2 is the slowest.
I hope this helps?
Things to remember
SD card usage eats battery.
SD card usage is slower than phone mem.
SD card usage can cause conflicts and freezes.
SD card usage creates app associations that really should not be carried over to new ROM flashes.
Installation to phone mem gives smoother and more stable operation of phone.
You have plenty of on phone storage space so why not use it?
Links to apps gone
i have loads of applications on my SD card for my HD2 but when i reset it i lost all the links to them so now the only way to get to them is to go to the file explorer but i dont have any icons anywhere else on my phone, any suggestions?
Either reinstall the apps, or simply browse to the executables, copy, and paste as shortcut in \windows\start menu.
hey guys
is there a way to make the external micro SD card primary, and make everything download to it with out having to move apps to it manually...?
can understand why they would sell a tablet without a decent amount of memory...
I don't know how to move already installed apps to SD, but I think I have a solution for future installations of apps.
I have a special version of SpareParts that has an app2sd option and you can set that to external. Maybe this option is already working and you actually don't need SpareParts, don't know for sure.
WARNING: Some apps have widgets/persistent notification process or have a background process running. These apps should NOT be on external storage (microSD card)!
You will need to go thru each app and decide for yourself if it can be on your SD card!

Is this happening when you install them to internal sd?
Not all programs and games can be installed on the external sd, and anyway, you have a whopping 2GB of internal storage, why not just install apps and games there?
the apps i am trying to move can be moved to the sd card it gives me the option it just wont move and when i tried to install flick golf and train conducter 2 usa it refused to install it said it couldnt install to sd card or mass storage
I can move some apps to the sd card so i dont know whether its a problem with certains apps
I m facing the same issue on my dell streak...can someone help please..
Do these games take up that much space that you even need to worry about moving apps to the external MicroSD? You have 2GB of internal storage for your apps in addition to whatever you have in the external MicroSD slot, and unless you're running low on space you shouldn't need to worry about moving apps at all.
Hi all right i seem to have a issue with 4.4.2 where for some madding reason Apps like Mount2SD and Link2SD are not working at all.
I have made a EXT4 Partition on my 32GB Micro SDHC card U-1 Class 10 in the hope of placing the Apps such as games into it so as not to fill the Internal SDCard up.
With it only being 16GB and all with Music etc it fills very quickly especially when some of the game i play are like 1.9GB in size after downloading the apps data.
I am not even sure if the current kernel supports EXT4 either. So can anyone help me on this as i am sure it will help other members. I am planning on getting a 64GB SDXC card some time and then dedicating a full 32-48GB just for Apps and Data but i want to see if it will work first on the 32GB SDHC card first.
Thanks in advance.
i'm sorry to bump this very old thread but i have the same problem as well. i partitioned the microSD card with ext4 and everytime i try to use Link2SD or any similar app, the tablet restarts.
I'm using the kernel made by shaky, and i'm on Lollipop
