I'm still trying different roms. the reason I'm doing this is because I want apps2sd, swap, multitouch, and to overclock. I guess the newer themes are just a bonus
Thanks

have you partition you sdcard? you need 512mb for ext, 96 for Linux swap and remaining for fat32. This will erase all your data on the sdcard! so make a back up before doing this. you can partition you card through the recovery for sdcard

using a freshly formattd 4gb card with only the data im flashing on there which is less that 100mb
so with the supereclair I need to partition the sdcard before applying the rom?

majority of the roms here require partitioned card's unless stated in the OP

So how exactly do I do that? the new recovery utility doesnt have an option to partition. also what format do I partition to?
I'm guessing partition into 3.4gb , 500mb, 100mb

This is nothing to do with partitions.. although if you get Amon-RA's recovery back on there's a menu to do all that easily. JF's stuff for the dream is all ancient now.
Your problem is that Supereclair requires the DeathSPL, or enough knowledge to hack your way round the requirement. The only safe way to flash the deathspl is through fastboot.. do you know how to use that? There's a guide around here somewhere. Whatever you do, DONT FLASH THE DEATHSPL FROM RECOVERY.

try this http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-manually-partition-your-sd-card-for-android-apps2sd/

do you have the danger SPL and the required radio? I'm guessing you don't have that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625886
that thread has all the info and links you need.
REMEMBER:
1) FLASH RADIO
2)FLASH SPL
If you don't follow that order that means you have a fancy paper weight.

I gues it's not worth it then. Then how come cyanogen wouldnt boot. it flashed succesfully, but never got past the G1 screen
card partitioned. I just want a rom that can do the things I mentioned. currently running donut by laszlo
I have hardspl now
EDIT:installing danger/death spl now
wait a minute. you say not to install deathspl from recovery where as the guide says to do it

Yes, but recently it has been found that the safest way (and least likely to brick) is through the spl (fastboot).... these guides were written before this was discovered

Since I cant find a rom I like 100% can I get a rom I like and then add app2sd, multitouch, swap, etc to it?
Also I can flash all the roms I want and not worry about a new spl or recovery being loaded. right?

Loops Cyanogen logo after Cyanogen final step

I just spent many grueling hours updating my stock, Android 1.5, Pre Rogers Radio update, Rogers Dream EBI1 to CyanogenMod.
After fimalising the last step in the Cyanogen guide, the phone loops the X logo from CyanogenMod. It says it takes up to 15 minutes to boot the first time... This has looped for more than15 minutes. (Using AmonRA recovery RA-dream-v1.7.0R)
Note I did nothing about partitioning my SD card as it was not mentioned in the CyanogenMod guide.
What did I do wrong? Should I nand Restore? Can I not Nandrestore someone else's working recovery?
Thank You
Miguel

you probably don't have the 'required'* SPL
but a logcat will confirm
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668090
should help you out
please.. please be careful if you decide you need to flash 'danger', it can 'brick' your phone
I flashed the SPL in the Cyanogen guide which I assume is the danger SPL.
I found a guide on the cyanogen forum with the sane problem I had. I am currently in the midst of trying their solution.
This is what they say to do:
Full Wipe
full repartition. Swap/Ext2/Fat32.
upgraded from ext2 to ext3.
upgraded from ext3 to ext4.
shut down the phone.
I removed the SD card and put the zip files back on from my computer.
Put the SD card back in the G1 and booted into recovery.
flashed the CM5.0.8 update,
flashed the GApps file.
Then rebooted.
I will post my findings!
Thanks for the reply!
Didn't seem to work, I'm hanging at the Rogers Logo now.
PS I am using the SPL 1.33.2005...
Radio 3.22.20.17
Amon Recovery 1.70R
Pre Radio 911 Fix
Should I try using the Hard SPL? Different Recovery?

[RADIO] problem with flashing

hello,
i've finally managed to flash newest recovery and get my cm7 installed
now i am tryin to update my radio to newest version but ofcourse i am havin problem with that.. i am runnin cm7 with nightly 40, cmw 3.0.0.6, i downloaded newest radio but in cwm it says i cannot be installed cuz there is no more someking of scrippter in cwm 3.0.0.x oO, next i've tried via rommenager but it goes to recovery and i get the same error all the time ;f
what can i do with it? is there a way to flash radio with cwm 3.0.0.6? if no, how can i safely downgrade cwm to version that will be able of flashin radio?
cheers
whats the exact version radio that your trying to install?
cause i think the latest radio that i've installed is:
Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10

yes that is the latest radio version. it came with froyo.
and how do u think u will update the radio alone. is it with PC49IMG.ZIP process.
i dont know whether updating radio alone (excluding boot.img + recovery.img) gives any issue to ur phone. can someone clarify that
Try using cwm fakeflash by "instalupdate.zip" this will revert back to old cwm on a temporary basis so you can flash roms and radio that are not written in new script language. Be careful flashing new radio as can damage your phone if you get it wrong

WarningHPB the radio ver is; Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10
Eddster3000, i've tried to downgrade the cmw via RomMenager, it looks like i am getting temporarly the older cwm, but there is one major problem.. it doesnt see files on my sd card, only in cwm 3.0.0.6 it is working fine but cant flash radio but in 2.5.0.7 works only temporarly cwm but without seein the files on my sdcard ;f
is there a way to use adb to flash the radio? if yes then how to do it? i think this would be the simpliest way
If you used AlphaRev, it would give you fastboot support (I think) so it would probably let you flash radio through USB connection.
What is your SD capacity? If you can, try on another one that is 2GB or less.
my sd card is 2gb, what do you mean by alpharev?
i am on w7 x64 i flash cmw via adb so i thought flashing radio wont be a problem will it?
mlotson Have look at post 5 on this page =http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824396
mlotson - go to alpharev.nl for info. For now, only read the info, don't download anything. It's not released for Wildfire yet, but it's not that far away.
first of all i have s-off because i've used xtc clip. second of all that guide is reffering to clockwork mod 2.5.0.7 probably because the 3.0.0.6 doesnt support some scriptting which is why i cant flash my radio, however i need to downgrade my cwm do 2.xx to be able to flash radio and flash ruu.zip file. just tell me how to permanently downgrade cwm to 2.xx and i'll be fine.. i promise ;p
now it seems like normally i have cwm 3.0.0.6 but when i run rommenager it says it's 2.xxx the problem is that there is some sort of incompatibility between these two, one sees the files on my sdcard and the older one doesnt.
what cwm are u using right now? and where can i download it?
@ up date, the whole situation is probably because od 3.0.0.6 cwm, it did something to my sd card so cwm 2.x.x.x.x doesnt read it properly.. question is how can i fix it? now i have cwm 2.5.0.7 and it shows only clockworkmod/ folder on my sd while i have many many other files.. but when i change it to cwm 3.0.0.6 it reads all the files and every thing is all right but i cant install old roms because of scripting method which is not supported by cwm 3 < i guess removing the whole recovery wont do the problem because that is not the first time i flashed recovery and under 3.0 i cant read my sd in recovery.. please help!it pain in the as$.. -,O
I'm not sure how to permanently downgrade CWM but I'll see what I can found out. I think CWM will always show 2.xxx in Rom-Manager which is the fakeflash version, even if you have upgraded CWM to 3.xxx
I'm on new CWM 3 and it's same as you describe in RM but only differance is that I can temp' downgrade CWM and flash all old scripts.
Do you think it's to do with XTC clip process? I'm not a programmer so I'm afraid I can only help with suggestions

now i am sure that it has something to do with ext, ive partitioned the sd card in cwm 3.0.0.6 to do so i had to formatted sd, then i flashed cwm 2.5.0.7 and went into cwm, now it doesnt show anything on my sd card it keeps sayin "no files found." ... ;F how to fix it .. ;o it's annoying

Surely if u have formatted the sd card them no matter which cwm you use will not find any files? Or did you format then copy the radio image to the root of the sd card? Have you tried a standard format of sd card using pc or laptop with a card reader? then copy files to sd card via pc before putting back into the phone.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA Premium App
i have formatted with pc, the sdcard was in the phone (i dont have card reader), it didnt fix it. so i formatted it again in cwm but again it didnt help, next i partitioned sd in rom menager but it also didnt work. now i am on cmw 3.0.0.6 because thats the only one which reads properly files from my sdcard.. i think ill try different sdcard but i dont have one for now ;p i guess til then i wont know for sure what's the reason
The solution is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1067031
and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12188132&postcount=15
In fact you have to reinstall CWM 3.0.0.6 this will fix your radio or/and gps problems as it did on me

[Q] nand flash help

Right just flashed boyppc gingerbread rom v30 but i'm getting loops in the android system after it being on for a while anyways others seem to have this problem also.
What i want to do now is just use v29 of the rom which i'm pretty sure will work but i'm not sure what to do in terms of flashing now that i have v30 on.
I followed the instructions for v30 which first made a 151 recovery then a installed rom. The v29 rom has a 154 recovery. What do i do now? just run the DAF.exe that came with the v29 or do i need to do other things to make v29 work?
this recovery thing is so confusing.

Hi,
First thing to do is run the 154 recovery.
Then ad recovery>wipe data,cache partition,dalvik(advanced)
Then go to install zip from sd card
Choose zip from sd card (which you should have placed on the root of your sd card, using a card reader)
After installation,reboot.
Give it time.
Some ROMS take 15-20 minutes to install.
right i see
does this process also wipe my ext4 partition i have on my sd card or do i have to do this seperately?

Hi,
Everything I have shown you is what you need to clean the phone and set it up for a new ROM,including wiping your EXT.
You don't have to wipe your ext partition, just leave it alone and you should have all your apps on your new rom that you had before. If you really want to wipe it, get Root Explorer (paid app) or ES File Explorer, and navigate to /mnt/sd-ext and delete the contents. But it really isn't necessary.

[Q] NC 1.2.0 bricked. Need to restore and start over.

I just bought an NC 1.2.0
no need to bore anyone with details but it is safe to say that it is virtually bricked. i would love a surefire way to get it completely back to the stock to start all over again.
i tried the repartitioning and reformatting technique using cm7 without any luck whatsoever. when i boot the device gets to the big N and "contains Reader mobile technology..." screen and never fully boots.
does anyone have a solution?
Presumably, one of those boring details involved writing an image to an SDcard:

You really only need the 1gb image ... no matter what the size of your card is. A smaller image will burn faster, and when you're done with the guide you can reformat the card anyway.

There's a decent chance the problem with your install is that you were using an older version of CWM on a newer NC, and it didn't write all the partitions correctly. Regardless, get the current version now.
Grab a B&N 1.2 image:
nemith said:
I modified the official 1.2 update to allow CWM to flash them. You can use these to upgrade to 1.2 or to return to stock.
There are two files. One replaces CWM with the stock recovery (good for going back to stock). The other doesn't replace CWM (but will replace uboot).
Other than that they are identical to the update from B&N.

Another option, if will at least start to boot, is to start the boot process and then hold the power button down to shut it off. Repeat this 8 times in a row and the unit will initiate a self restore to the way it was shipped.
One thing to remember is that if you have a blue dot on the box for the nook, it has a different partition size and must be accounted for when installing CM7.

If he has CWM on his internal recovery partition, I don't think 8 failed boots will work.
Also, the latest version of CWM can install CM7 correctly regardless of partitioning, though the old-style partitions are going to be preferable for most people running CM7.

It does if you flash it from ROM Manager, regardless of whether you have ROM Manager running internally or on a CM7 SD install. If he hasn't done that, 8 failed boots should work, but I'm not 100% sure on a repartitioned device.

Did you select partition SD card? If you did and didn't copy the contents to your PC then you are out of luck. I don't know whether there are tools that can recover from erased SD card. And which ROM you tried to flash? ICS or Gingerbread?
I was trying to flash ICS, and it said it was successful, but the same loop process back to clockwork mod. Messed with stuff I didnt know about and erased the entire sd card. Have been able to successfully flash CM, and in the process of reinstalling apps, then will back it all up again, and try to flash ics again. Wow, thought I was screwed there for while.
any tips for flashing ics, cause obviously i failed.

If you want to flash ICS ROM, you will need HBOOT blackrose and resize the partition. In addition, you will have to reformat your SD card to create a ext4 partition. You can't flash ICS ROM on stock partition. Just do some additional research and you will have Ice Cream Sandwich
Got it to work. Thanks for the help. I was scared for a while there that everything was lost.
I installed medroid. I see that you have medroid and texasice ICS. Can you have 2 roms on a phone?

I have 2 ROMs on my SD card but not 2 ROMs on the phone The Medroid v6.1 that I am using does have Texasice's work included that's why I listed Medroid and Texasice.
Blackrose and ICS are tough to get right without exact preparation. As taodan said, I would study the threads on Blackrose and ICS. I usually read the whole thread unless it has hundreds of pages. And, sometimes I still don't get it. These aren't that extensive yet. I don't know about cwm but amon_ra prompts you before you can do anything asking if you want to proceed. Cwm, when I used it didn't do that. One reason I changed.
If you get to the point where you can try Amon_Ra 2.2.1, I would give it a shot. Has been 100% bullet proof for me.
Also, I personally feel it is important to wipe System also as part of the wipe process.
Enjoy the roms--
already solved.. hehe
