Can use other roms on Rogers yet? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

When Rogers started blocking people from the network, I switched to CursorSense.
Can I try other roms yet? Will I get blocked again? What's the current state of things?

just sign the HTC waiver at www.rogers.com/htcwaiver and you are good to go,no need to stay on cursor, no need to update to rogers rom and no more rogers cutting your data
flash away my friend.. flash away..
oh btw waiver takes up to 24 hours to get into the system..

Hey that's pretty cool! Now how do I downgrade after updating using their stupid utility>?

if you updated to their newest rom you are outta luck. the rom has a perfected spl which is not rootable yet. hopefully when the official 2.1 roms come out that will change

are 2.1 roms based off of the htc 2.1 build?

I have been searching for the newest version of android along with a working bluetooth connection to my panasonic phone for months now. 1.5 works very well with my home phone, but the "htc" 2.1 leaked version ( the version that supposedly was exactly the same as the official release but with root access) didnt connect at all.
Then the unofficial froyo build came out. That ROM fixed the bluetooth connection that was broke in 2.1, but the problem with this build is, if i leave my bluetooth connection on and walk in the door, it doesnt reconnect manually to my phone. Because of this, i have to keep manually selecting the handsfree device i want it to connect too if it ever disconnects.
So now I am thinking of trying the "official" 2.1 build released by htc. I'm not sure if my results will be any better than the other roms such as fresh or damanged that are 'based' off of 2.1. I'd like to get off of this 1.5 version of android and to something newer. My concern with trying the official 2.1 rom is that I will loose my root access, correct? I can then re-root my phone afterwards?

There r two roms that r using the newest .6 version of the HTC release of 2.1. They r fresh and one other. But its out there. My rom will be using it as well but will be a day or two. All the others out in the forum are all the .5 version of the HTC version of 2.1. There r only one or two roms that r out there now that r using the leaked version anymore
so would you expect the same results within the bluetooth stack for these roms instead of me installing the official 2.1 rom from htc? or is this something developers tend to change to "enhance" the roms?

Comments around the Sprint Community forum seem to mostly say that Bluetooth is terrible in the official Sprint/HTC 2.1 release, so I don't think running the official RUU will fix your Bluetooth troubles. Here are just a couple threads from there:
http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/32489
http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/32193
Also, yes you will lose root access if you run the official RUU from the Sprint or HTC web sites. You could re-root using this method, but I think the better option would be to just flash the nfinitefx45 Sprint 2.27.651.6 STOCK Deoxed ROM, because it is the official straight stock release that maintains root access. DamageControl's latest ROM and Fresh's latest ROM are also based from the official stock release, but they have many more changes and modifications to them so they aren't "true stock" anymore.

Nice work. I would have put up the links myself but in on my phone and its not as easy on here lol
thanks for all the help. i just tried the Sprint 2.27.651.6 STOCK Deoxed w/A2SD Update 3 rom and the device paired but did not connect. I assume I should get the same results with any rom based on this correct? So frustrating that HTC screwed this up. I hate being stuck at 1.5.

u never know try out the fresh rom its new also and has a bunch of enhancements

sdx-developers now have ROMs based on 4/11/2011 VM USA Froyo release

The great developers and testers at sdx-developers came up with two version of Froyo using VM USA Froyo release.
1.
Rooted Froyo ROM for those who previously upgraded to Sprint Froyo 2.2
For Sprint baseband, DL05 or DF27
2.
Stock Froyo ROM based on latest VM USA
A few people tested this and reported that MMS and Voice Mail notifications working again.
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/int...obile-froyo-2-2-stock-system-and-kernel-dump/
Please read in detail and decide for yourself.
I'm still not sure about this update. It's not as simple as running Update.zip, right? You need to flash it, then do a factory reset, then download another program, run that, and THEN it works? Also, is this a modified ROM at all?
Yeah, this isn't the zipped rom from Virgin Mobile, this is pieced (back) together from the 2.2 update installed on an Intercept after the fact, apparently.
3:30pm PDT on 4/13 and still nothing.
I still haven't seen anybody come up with the actual 2.2 Froyo zipped rom from Virgin Mobile. Apparently everyone so far has popped a nut when they get the update and installed it directly instead of downloading it and choosing to install it later, then locating it on their phone and posting it somewhere.
I've got aLogcat installed. I am just waiting for the update to show up. I've seen the message that it is coming. Still waiting for it to arrive though. When it does I'll try to get the devs what they need. I don't really know what I am doing, but I'll give it a go.
I guess this no longer matters as the official update is now in the hands of SDX-Developers.
got mine on 4/20
holy sweet baby jesus this stuff is killing me! I've managed (by the grace) to get my bf's intercept rooted (not temp).. been on this for hours! I'm fairly accustomed to the process as I have an evo and been flashing nightlies for months.
I can't get a recovery on the phone via swupgrade. I put the cm01.tar in the binary folder by itself, and the thing goes through right to the last part and just sits there, doesn't transfer. heeeelp pleeeease! I'm so sick of this now. I was able to delete much of the bloat ware and now I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble to try and get a better rom / kernel. Advice?

2.2.2 streak rom question

I just recently picked up a dell streak. It's brand new with what I'm guessing it the latest shipped rom which is build number 15274 running android version 2.2.2
All I see is custom roms and reflashing back to other roms to root....blah blah blah...is there a way to just root my current rom and not have to flash a completely new one? I'm all for supporting the community, I'd just like to keep this as device as clean as possible and remove all the bloatware.

Download SuperOneClick v1.5.5 and root away. Dont forget to put your phone into USB debugging mode before rooting, its very important that you do that. Or just follow the steps in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925853 good luck.
Wow thanks, I totally skipped over that post!!! I guess from what I was reading I was expecting the whole process to be a lot more complicated.
Thanks a ton!
Anytime.

How come Dell don't push out the 2.2.2 version OTA to their customers?
I check for updates every day, but have just once received any. (2.2)
Their way of saying; "we just don't give a f*ck about our customers"?
You should have gotten that update weeks ago. It's been OTA for probably about a month now. And I don't know how much you've read, but a lot of what happened with not updating from 1.6 was probably AT&T's fault because they wouldn't okay the build (speculated). Dell had the source up for 2.2 for a long time, if I remember correctly.
I'm on unlocked stock EU ROM since day one. Just to clarify.
Do you mean the 2.2.2 was shipped OTA, for EU users too?
Ohhh. Didn't notice you were on EU. I don't know if Dell released one for EU yet (probably hasn't since you don't have the option to OTA). Just remember that it's not just the phone maker responsible for updates, the carrier has some say in it, too. Are you still on 1.6? Because you could always try out DJ Steve's ROM if you wanted to try something different.
No, the one OTA update I received, was the 1.6 --> 2.2 on last October.
Since then - nothing. I guess it's only in America people get the 2.2.2.
Thanx for taking time to reply.
No problem, haha. I hope you get it soon
I really want the update to, I'm in the Uk and I'm still on 2.2, I would do it myself but its just to complicated and don't wanna mess up my phone. Has anyone in the Uk got the 2.2.2 upgrade? And to be honest I really wont the 2.3 upgrade, but seeing as we still don't have the 2.2.2 upgrade, I think we'll be waiting a long time :'(
2.2.2?
If someone updated from 1.6, to the "non official" 2.2, is there any difference between it and 2.2.2?
2.2.2 is supposedly immune to the malware loaded from the 50 or so infested apps that Google removed recently from the market.

Magic 32B - Vodafone AU. Rolling back to stock from root/Cyanogen ROM

Gday guys,
Been lurking the forums for quite some time and played with many different roms since I got hold of a Vodafone AU Magic [32B] almost 2 years ago.
Running CM6.1 at the moment - but have found it to be increasingly unstable - random reboots and so on, looking to roll back to CM6.0, but thought I would roll the phone back to stock seeing that VFAU has since pushed out OTA updates for 2.2.
I know the original 1.5 and 1.6 VFAU roms are easily found, but what is the process to unroot, roll back and ensure OTA will work so I can update to 2.2?
Thanks in advance!
Anyone?
Even a nandroid backup of 2.2 would be much appreciated.
Hi,
did you get anywhere with this as I'm also looking to go to a stock Vodafone UK rom to sell my phone
Thanks

just bought one, should i continue OTA update?

im planning on installing a custom rom at the very least since the stock rom is giving me some software glitches. i wanted to know if theres any problem with the new update that would prevent me from rooting, or is just best to update to the newest version while its still on stock

if your talking about the AT&T XT2 it can be rooted on any version
problem right now is Huawei's bootloader unlock page is gone and you'll have to try DC unlocker to pay for a bootloader unlock
I was talking about the original XT, I updated since I see most of the road support the latest version
