I still have the problem of when i make or receive a call the volume is so so loud even at the min setting.
But today when i was on the phone with my ear drums nearly bleeding....i had another call beeping through (call waiting) and noticed that straight away the volume of the call that i was on decreased to a sensibly level!!
Once i finished the call, i thought it may have been a one off so i dialled another number and then got someone to phone me while i was on the call and yet again the volume somehow dropped to a sensibly level.
Any ideas guys?
If only i could always have the volume like this, this handset would be perfect.
This also happens if your on the phone and get an SMS, HTC have admitted the volume problem is a "known issue" but there is so far no results of them having fixed it.

Incall volume has always been a problem on this device and I think there is another thread related to this issue. It has been noticed that when you are on a call, the volume, evn though on the lowest level is usually way too loud and uncomfortable for the ears.
This might help you as it works for me: while on a call, I increase the volume to max and turn it back down to lowest level. you will straightaway notice that the volume has reduced cosiderably. This has been my "short term" solution until the issue is resolved. Hope that helps.

All was going fine till yesterday when I was calling my mom and talking with her the volume of the speaker of my K-JAM suddenly drops down. I increased the volume during the call but no improvement, I was hardly hearing her so I used the hands free for the later call. After that I hard reset the K-JAM and tried a test call but still same. Now some people are also complaining about noise during the call.
Any suggestions or work around ?
Hi all. Do u have this same problem with your x1 like me? When someone is ringing me and i answer the phone then sometimes i cant hear hear his voice and he cant hear me either in 1st few seconds. After 2, 3seconds is normal.
I tryed few differend roms and this same problem. Is it something wrong with the phone, or this is normal in x1????
please raply yes or no.
Yes it's normal in X1, no there is nothing wrong with the phone.
I have the same problem. I am used now and wait for about 2 seconds before I say 'hi' When I call someone or when I get called and press the green button, it takes a few seconds before the person hears me. I think that it's normal in X1, but it is quite irritating. My opinnion about X1 is that the phone is really nice to use different applications but the calling performance is below average.
These are few things that I don't linke about the x1 (beside the problem that its mentioned in this topic):
- calling volume is too high, even when I set the volume to lowest level. People next to me can hear the person who I am speaking. (So, I don't mention the speaker on the left-bottom, but on the top.)
- The speaker on the bottom is really on a bad place. You can easily cover the speaker with your finger or handpalm. If that happens, you can't hear the sound.
- The microphone of the standard headset is really bad quality. The person can't hear me well.
- When I put the headset on and someone is calling me, the ringtone rings both on the headset and the speaker of the x1 on the bottom.
thank u very much. i`m glad someone reply on my post.
Hi there everyone.
I am a new user of an HTC Hero.
I have a problem on incoming calls or sms.
I leave the HTC to lock by itself and, when i have an incoming call or sms, only the screen turns on. I can see the number of the dialer who is calling me on the screen but NO ringtone sounds from the phone. The same problem occurs when an sms is received. No ring is sounded by the phone.
I have checked everything concerning the sound preferences and (i believe) that i have not left anything un-touched.
Can anyone please "save" me from madness???
Thanks in advance!
I can't say for sure this is what happened, but humor me for a second and check a few things:
Of course double check that your volume is all the way up.
When you use the volume rocker on the side of the phone, does it beep?
Do you have any music on it? If so, play it without the headphones plugged in. Do you hear the music?
When you turn speakerphone on during a call, do you hear the other person?
Do you hear any of these sounds using headphones? Do you hear people through the earpiece on a call?
If you don't hear any sound from any of the first few bullets, but you do hear things through the headphones and earpiece, it may be the speaker in the back that's broken. Again, this is just one possible cause, but I had it happen to me. I have no idea how to fix it other than to send it back to HTC or attempt to replace it yourself (I don't know how to do this and would not recommend it if you're not comfortable with it!). Thankfully, my phone fixed itself after a few days (well, with a little help, I accidentally dropped it on the floor from a height of about four feet, but again, I wouldn't recommend that!). Anyway, just a thought, hope it at least helps you diagnose the problem.
This morning when I revieved a call I could barely here the person talking to me. It was like the in call volume was turned to the lowest setting.
I am just past the 14 day return period so I have to do a warranty exchange. Has anyone else had or heard of such problem?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

I had this same problem. One easy solution I found was turning the HAC mode on (found under Settings > Call Settings). This increases the call volume a good bit. But it doesn't change the bluetooth or wired headset volume.
Unless Im missing the point, just use your volume rockers and adjust the volume up. Its pretty loud when you crank it up.
this may not even be your problem.
For most of my calls the volume rocker gave plenty of headroom. I just had to turn the HAC mode on to boost the volume for my one friend that's a "low talker". Same person but on my G1 the volume was fine.
turning on hac mode helps thanks

Im not going to speak for OP but i know that for me whenever i answer a call its at 3/4 volume even whenever i turn it up the next call i pick up will still be at 3/4 volume. seems to be a "feature" so you dont get blasted by someone on the other end however at the same time its annoying when i talk with my wife all the time and shes soft spoken.
It's not the rocker, I have it turned all the way up though I noticed that changing the volume makes no difference, the sound is still extremely low. My problem is most likely a hardware issue.
I called in for a warranty exchange and I should be getting a new phone any day now

This works great! Thank you. I called Samsung and they said there was no way to increase the handset volume. Well pretty sad users know more about the phone workings than the damn company!

Thats because companies do not train their customer service reps on the devices. Then they transfer you over to "technical support", who are the same people just going through basic troubleshoot software provided by the REAL techincal folks at samsung. Calling them always insults my intelligence, because ill try to speed the call up by saying "ive already tried all of the basic troubleshooting methods", yet they will continuously ask me things like "did you try a reboot?", "did you pull the battery?".
Bottom line, these companies cannot afford to pay thousands of Sombionixes and Cyanogens to handle tech support hahaha
I am having problems with the in-call volume of my Nexus 4. Say I have it at 4/5, it will remain at this for a while, however, it does not maintain this setting. When I answer a subsequent phone call, the in-call volume will have reset itself to 2/5. It is quite annoying answering a phone call, not hearing the person on the other side and then having to increase the volume again. I actually returned my 1st Nexus 4, however, this problem is now occurring on my replacement phone as well. Would anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing this problem before I contact Google again. I have not made any adjustments to the OS of the Nexus 4. Thanks for any help!

I have Volume + installed from Google Play and it increases the volume considerably from the speaker, through bluetooth and headsets. If you try it go to settings/sounds/sound effects and choose Volume + instead of Music Fx. I`am using the paid version and it works great for me.

Thanks for your reply. Actual loudness of the phone is not a problem, when the highest in-call volume setting is maintained. However, the phone will randomly reset itself to the 2/5 setting. Over the weekend, I give the Volume + app a try. It has an individual setting for in-call volume, however, the problem still occurs. Do you think the problem is software related and therefore potentially could be rectified by the next major update to be released? I'am worried that I may have to try and return another phone to Google!

Did you ever find the solution? I just got a Nexus 4 and have the same issue. I've been searching like crazy for a solution!

I forgot to say that even though is the same issue, in my case is the other way around. The volume resets to 5/5 even though I change it to 2/5 during a call. The 2/5 setting seems to last only some time but surely after a few hours, when I make or receive another phone call the volume has gone up to 5/5.
I have the same issue. The volume is always to the max. During the call I lower it, because it is too loud at the maximum, but during the next call, the volume is at maximum again. I tried several applications that adjust in-call volume, but it had no effect.

I believe we might have an application installed that's resetting the volume, would you mind sharing the applications you have via private message and then we can check which we have in common and go from there? If you agree I'll send you mine as well.
After several factory resets I finally found out what was the problem. Automatic Call Recorder has an option named Maximize recording volume (or something like that). When I turned off this, the problem was solved.
