Can I move data from Windows Mobile to N1? - Nexus One General

I'm looking to move sms text messages and contacts to the N1.
I've done the csv import for the contacts but then you lose pictures and such. I just wish it had a simple sync tool for Outlook like some of the HTC phones.

Use ActiveSync to sync your contacts and calendar with Google, the Nexus will then pick them up. This saves all the info the contacts have, including the pictures.
Think you're stuck for the messages though I'm afraid.

Is there a setting for that in Sync Center?

http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/

Was just readding that.

That worked. Thanks. The pictures are a little stretched/tiny.
Any way to do that from the PC or can you only do it from a WM phone?

[Question] winmo to android contacts

I just joined the android family.
And i was wondering is there is a easy way to import my contacts with pictures and appointments and sms messages from my xperia to my magic?
thnx!
Its a few steps sadly...
1. Sync your winmo with your pc and outlook, this will get your calendar and contacts in outlook.
2. export your contacts as a csv file and then import into google using web interface. Tip create a group for your phone contacts, as by default google syncs everyone you have ever emailed. I call mine 'Phone Contacts'. On the handset you can say only sync contacts in xxx groups. This way they stay nice. You can then reassign your contacts photos in the web contacts page. These will sync down to your phone.
3. install google sync (http://dl.google.com/googlecalendarsync/GoogleCalendarSync_Installer.exe), this will then sync your outlook calendar with google, which will then sync with your phone
As for sms etc, sorry can't help you there. But you might want to look at this (http://code.google.com/p/android-sms/) sms backup program. stores all your sms's in google under a label called SMS.
Thanks

Contacs from WM to Android

Is there an easy way to import my contacts from Windows Mobile to Android? Without to copy first all my contacs to my Sim?
No. Dont think so.
I had all my contacts on my google account. On WM I did exchange so it synced all my contacts. With Android, I just logged in and it auto. synced my contacts.
Fastest way and most easiest way!

with telephonenumber picture etc.? if there is no other way, i'm going to spend a little bit of my time by typing all them down in there :-D
Simple.
1) ActiveSync to outlook or windows contact.
2) export to csv file
3) import csv file to google contacts.
4) android uses all the google contacts automatically. Bingo.
how i did mine -
setup an activesync with your gmail account
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299
manually select sync to get the process started, now your contacts will be in your gmail account
verify on the gmail account to make sure all the contacts are there
boot into android, your gmail contacts will start showing up in the phone
thank you guys! perfekt

[q] how to sync contacts from pc after flashing hero

HI
I am looking for a way to restore my contacts whick i have on outlook to my hero.....
suprisingly htc sync is not working after a rom upgrade......pls help guys
its a huge task to add contacts manually.......
HTC sync is a feature of Sense Roms ,. Unfortunately you cant have that on CM 6 based roms as they lack sense.
my recommendation for a Quick fix for you may be to flash a sense rom and sync your contacts and then change your contacts to google contacts as opposed to phone or sim contacts and then back them up on your google account.

it could be because there is a new version of htc sync on the web page for 2.1 eclair.. if you don't have it already that could be your problem

Log in to your Gmail account (the one that you used originally on your phone) on your PC and go to Contacts. In the "More Actions" menu there is an option to Import contacts. Export your contacts from Outlook to a .CSV file, then import them into your Gmail account. Once they are there, they should synchronise with your phone correctly, and from then on, if you wipe your phone, when you sign back in with your google account on the new ROM, the contacts will automatically transfer again.

Happy to help The only issue there is that you need to keep the gmail contacts up to date as well as your Outlook contacts, but it does work well
Hey what I figured out recently when I got my hero is more of a work around than an official way to do this. What I do is I select all the contacts in my outlook contacts folder, then I right click and say send as a business card. What this does is create an e-mail with all your contacts listed as business card .vcf files. All these files will appear in the new mail dialog under attachments. I right click on that particular dialog and select all - it then offers you the option to cut/copy all these vcfs - once you do that then you can just paste them in whichever folder you wish. Once they are all there just transfer them to a folder on your SD card and use the import feature thats in the contacts application. You can import from SD card and it will locate and list all those vcfs of the SD card. Thats about the best and easiest way I've found of doing this. However when I change the contact on the phone I will try obviously have to find some reverse method to get it back into outlook sychro'd Only got my hero two days ago so will figure something out soon hopefully

Fastest way to import phone numbers?

Is there any way to import phone numbers quickly, such as a copy and paste from the computer if possible, from an older phone?
I have a bunch of numbers from my razr2 that I would like to stick onto the vibrant, and if there is an easier way I'd rather do that than mess with the razr2's messed up capacitive buttons.
Sim card?.....
Sync your number from razer to outlook or outlook express. Then import it to your gmail contact. You should create a new group in contacts to keep it organized. Once logged in on your phone it will sync all automatically.

woops, didn't realize it was that easy. i apologize for the silly question.
is it ideal to put numbers on a sim or straight into the phone? this is with a 2year contract from tmobile.
Phone is better because there are certain features that will only work with the number on the phone.

What features only work with the numbers on the phone? 2.2 made it so you could assign custom ringtones w.o saving the number to the phone.

Well, I have sent contacts as vcard (via bluetooth) from SE phone to Samsung Vibrant, every number/e-mail/adress is in a right place.
Quick and safe
I can say it would be a good idea to have all your contacts backed up on gmail as well. I've had sim cards go bad, so if it does, you just lost your contacts. I'm not sure how the razor sync's contacts, but if you can sync with outlook, it's really easy to get them to gmail. You basically backup your contacts to a file, then go to gmail and import that file. Trust me, having them on gmail will make it easier on you. If you were to change any numbers, it will auto sync with gmail, and if you get a new phone, (android), all your numbers will sync automatically through gmail.
+1 its like magic

Very good explanation. Thanks.
+1 for Google Contact sync. It also allows you to export in csv format so you can easily sync those contacts with other applications as well. Not to mention a web interface for editing and grouping those contacts which then automagically syncs to your phone.
Also, saving contacts to the phone gives you a lot more storage than a SIM card. I believe a SIM can only hold up to 250 contacts.

[Q] contact sync with facebook photos

Am i missing something ? for some reason i cant get my facebook contacts (account) photos to synch up with my google /phone contacts and merge them together. previously on my HTC Evo this was done automatically and i had the option to sync all contacts, sync with existing contacts and this would allow peoples pictures to synch up properly. Is there something with the N4 thats different thats not allowing me to do that. thanks for the advice

This phone doesn't have native Facebook integration as do HTC phones, it's vanilla android after all. So its an issue with the Facebook app and eventually Facebook will fix it but don't hold your breath waiting for them they are slow. Most of my contact pictures synced up but I had some that refused to so I downloaded the app Contact Sync for Facebook and problem solved. This is the best sync app for Facebook I've seen.
