I'm currently forced to use WiFi instead of data to access the internet. Since I'm now leaving WiFi on all the time, I can no longer send SMS messages. And I'm not sure I'm receiving them. Is that normal? Is there some sort of setting I need to change? Or is this the old SMS bug from the past?
Thanks.
-Bob-
Pretty sure you have to have data access to send SMS, as it's phone number based, so phone service is required.
there shouldn't be a problem sending and receiving txts when wifi is on.I surf over wifi all day long with no phone issues.

The strange thing is that NOW I'm receiving and able to send with wi-fi on.
Guess I'll have to turn on "Request delivery report" for now and hope I receive my messages.
It's odd that after 3 months, I've suddenly experienced the dreaded SMS bug.
BTW, can anyone tell me how to access the out box to see if the unsent messages are there?

on the messaging tab,
all messages - menu - settings - traditional mode. makes it easier to switch between in and out box etc.
the outbox usually keeps the messages those could not be sent ... if there 're any of it so ur suppose is ture..and i think there is a number u can define to send a message...not sure about hd2 but xperia x1 my phone automatically get the config...

Well...no unsent messages!? The "Sent Items" shows all my messages as having been sent, but I know they weren't received. Now I'm starting to wonder if there isn't some user error on my part.

I agree.
SMS was never designed to be instantaneous, and networks will argue this case.
Wait a few days beforehand, then ask your network provider if they do not appear, it may be a 'stuck' SMS in the network's system causing issues.
I've known a text message to take 363 days to arrive...

The messages that I sent at 8:00 this morning, that were not received, suddenly flooded into the recipient's phones at 11:00. Since they weren't sitting on my phone, as far as I could tell, I guess T-Mobile was hanging on to them. Odd. That's never happened before.

Yes I'm a newbie to this forum so be nice.
Has anybody had problems with their new voicemail notification staying on after you've gone over and deleted your new messages? I've done a soft reset like 5 times and deleted every message from my voicemail and my today screen still says I have voicemail and the notification sounds when I start it up. I'm thinking this doesn't have anything to do with the phone itself but rather Sprint (??) I had a PPC6701 previously and the Fusic and I had problems with this as well...
Just wondering if this has happened to anybody else and if you know why or how to fix it..
Thanks.
My Faulty Voicemail is a little different
No matter how many vmail messages I have, my Mogul only indicates that I have 1 message. Over and over again, I'm told I've got one, and only one, voicemail. Very annoying that this expensive little device can't give an accurate tally of the messages. You'd think they'd have solved that by now. I mean, it's 2007. Sheesh.
yeah, i have the same thing, sometimes after deleting a messege it says i still have one, then ill get another voice mail and it will still say 1 (annoying since i neverknow if the 1 messege is real or fake)
ill usually call myself and leave a messege, then delete it and it goes away (until the next time i get a voice mail and its back)

I've read that the issue is a limitation of the Sprint network.
That is due to limitations of CDMA, or so I've heard.
I also have issues with the voicemail indicator not "leaving" after a message is deleted...the only fix I've found is to leave myself a message (normally by calling from another phone) and delete that normally....MOST of the time that works.

I havent had that issue at all, it may just be the signal in your area. As far as having multiple voicemails with notification of one, yes that is a staple of sprint's service. however on the nextel side, this does not occur. One thing i have noticed with my mogul, is that the notification will pop up when i get an additional message i just often ignore it, the best thing to do is just clear the vmail indication so the next new message you get, you know its new. that is all.

I have had a similar and ongoing problem with my Alltel Voice Mail. It started, possibly by coincidence, on August 1st when they took over Midwest Wireless. At that time I had a PPC6700 and my wife had an LG4400. They had us try switching to the new PPC6800's and still, on either phone if you used the automatic playback option - whereby when you call in the messages will play automatically, when you hit 5 to delete - it should delete the message indicator on your phone screen. Ours will not.
In my many discussions with Alltel they would reset our voice mail which meant that you had to go in and re-record your messages, etc.. When that was done it puts all your Voicemail items to the default settings and in that mode you have to dial 1 to play your messages. If you leave it in that mode it will delete the voice mail indicator.
If you switch it back to automatic playback mode, it will not delete the indicator.
I have spent probably hours on the phone with Alltel and their techs to no avail. Even after I tracked the problem down to the Automatic Playback mode.
Not sure if this is a similar problem but it would be nice if the carriers would (could) fix their own network?

That would work if those options were in WM5...so far they're only showing up in WM6 (to my knowledge). I just checked my sampson WM5 phone settings, and that option isn't there....but I do remember it in at least one of the WM6 builds I've run.

I assumed everyone was running WM6 since that's what comes on the Titan and this is in the Titan forum. Nobody had mentioned running WM5 anywhere.
I can confirm that this option is in the stock rom as well as DCD's.
That option is not available on my PPC6800 from Alltel either.
Hi,
The SMS program (the gray/black one included on a stock Rhodium) is really buggy for me - dates/times being mixed up.
Example;
I send an SMS at 12:00 to my friend.
My friend then responds at 12:01 - but it shows up as if he had responded a few minutes earlier then the time that I sent the first message, say, 11:57
It's really wierd, and I'm not sure whats causing this.
All I do know is that I can't have this, seing how I text message _alot_.
Any suggestions on how to fix this, or how to get rid of the Rhodium SMS interface, back to the functional WM SMS interface?
Thanks!
EDIT: If you don't understand the problem, I'll make a video to demonstrate better.
I have the same problem, i dont really care but its strange anyway...
Are you sure that bot your phone and your friends phone are at the exact time?
Some phone don't write the time at which you receive the SMS but the time when you friend's send the SMS based on the time of his phone and sometime it takes the time of the server that relay the SMS
yup I had my GF adjust her clock so they are in sync. then no more problems!
I may be wrong here but, I think it does this when you text through the tf3d sms. When you read the message on the touch flo screen tap the all messages tab on the bottom left and text back that way. Then see if it still happens.
I'm not a huge texting fanatic but this is how I do all my texting. Through tf3d it doesn't do auto capitalization and such. At least I haven't found a way to do it.
Yes, thats what happens.

I also prefered the 'old', standard WM SMSinterface rather than this new one, due to this bug - and the lack of auto capitalization.
What would one do to disable the new tf3d smsinterface, and just go straight to the WM one?
Tapping the "all messages" tab on the bottom left just gets annoying after some time, and I really don't prefer it.
Are we looking forward to a ROMupdate from HTC anytime soon, hms?

I synchronized my phones time with my girlfriends phone, and this still occurs - but only with the TF3D SMS program, not the WM one.
It's freaking me out.
I for example had a diferent problem. Someone sends me a message for example 13:56 and I only receive the message later, after I turn on the phone from standby. Calls sometimes give me unavailable. With my older mobile phone I didn't had any problem with that. I was thinking that the radio update will sort out the problem, but no good. Still the same problem. A big lag between send messages and received. Anyone know the cause. I had also the same problem in my Asus P535 but it fixed someway. Even with the phone connected, some times I need to make a call or activate the 3G GSM connection to receive the notification of the message.
Hello,
I seem to be having an issue with the time stamps on my text messages. The ones that I send are okay, however the ones that I receive all have different times on them. For example:
If I send a text at 8:15PM and receive a reply right away, it'll show my text sent at 8:15PM, but the reply will have a back dated time... Maybe 5PM, 4PM... something like that.
Any ideas why?
Thanks!
I find this but its by no means universal. some messages I recive are an hour ahead others are not. I recived two messages at almost the same time & one of them had the wrong time. I can't wait for the new update to fix all of these little issues
I've seen this problem since my G1. It's still suffering from it, as is my Magic and my Hero.
I'm still having the same issue.
My received text messages show a time of 4 hours behind.
So if I send a text at 6:30 and receive a reply at 6:32, it shows 2:32 as the received time.
Does anyone know if there's a fix for this? I have updated to the latest (leaked) firmware, but still no luck.
Thanks!

Was just going to ask this... What network are you on, have you set network location to automatic by carrier, if so, set it manually to the city / country you are in.
I'm on O2 and have been using the network provided values.
I've set it to manual and text someone at 12:44. The reply came in a little while after and was stamped 12:45 so no issue there it seems. Strange.
I'm now getting issues now with texts in fairly quick succession.
The time stamps can be the same i.e. 21:17 but a reply from someone will sometimes appear before my original text in thread view.
Also a reply came in to one of my texts with a time stamp before my original text. This was displayed "correctly" as before my text, but the fact its timestamped in this way can't be right.
Anyone else seen this?
It's like the phone is looking at minutes for accuracy, not seconds. Also taking the timestamp of when a text was sent from the other person's phone as the time received to my phone. Hm :/
I get this on Orange when I receive a message from the US. All my outgoing messages are listed at the bottom of the conversation, while the one received from the US are at the top.
UK based conversations are all threaded correctly.
Ok thanks.
It never used to be like this so I'm wondering after prolonged use the sms database gets a bit corrupted somehow?
For me it seems to behave like this: for outgoing (sent) messages I see the time that is set on Hero. For incoming messages, however, Hero shows the time on the network provider.
I assume there is some header in SMS message containing the time, and Hero uses that instead of using the time Hero has when the message arrives.
I started using the Network Provider time (automatic) to get rid of this.

Are you using regular message application?
If so double check on you have ticked for delivery report for SMS and MMS in the settings
And check with your service provider its already activated to your sim card (this has noting to do with what kind of phone ur using, ask service provider to activate such service, if its available with them)

the X10i does not notify you if the sms was delivered, you can check by tap and hold on the message (sms) you send and a menu pops up and you select view report, it will show you if it is delivered or pending. it is a pain in the a$$.

I just called customer service. They told me on the right side of the SMS, there's an envelope. If there's an exclamation mark on top of it, it means its delivered...
I haven't use the regular message from the beginning.
Try using Handcent Sms, its free. And I have made customized handcent sms for X10.
check this forum handcent sms Modified to XPERIA X10 GUI
Once you installed,
On Handcent, go to settings/sent notifications/pick notify when message is received.
and do a test msg to a friend. It should show you an indication and you can pick custom tone.
Note:
if you get 2 notification for one message its because handcent and regular message both alerting for same event.
go to regular message and setting and remove all the notifications. keep only handcent.
Good luck

Hi all,
I think I'm having a similar problem -
When I send a message, it definitely is sent - my friends are receiving them - but in Handcent, I get the blue-turning circle next to the message (as if it is still sending) and in the stock messaging app, the same message has the envelope with the exclamation mark.
Yet the messages ARE being sent.
This has only just started happening in the last day or so. I have installed quite a few apps to help save the battery since rooting - e.g. JuiceDefender, SetCPU, TaskPanel and StartUp Manager, but as far as I can tell I've not done anything to the SMS settings. As far as I can tell...
I'm on R2BA023, rooted, on O2 UK.
I've had a look through all the settings I can think of but I'm stumped now. This is the final niggle in my otherwise great new rooted set-up...
Hey - just wanted to update as I seem to have fixed it...
Not sure HOW, but it's one of the following. Seems to be something in "Startup Manager".
1) I had removed "Handcent SMS" for "User startup". Under the basis of "if I need it, I will run it".
2) Had removed the default x10 "Messaging" app from "System startup". It had 3 entries in there. I removed them all...
So one of those things broke the Outbox. As I mentioned, messages would send (confirmed by friends) but still appear as "in progress".
So, having put them all back in "System Startup", and rebooted, the "stuck" messages finally stopped being "stuck". Fixing it seems to have sent the messages again, but they are no longer "in progress". They are, however, time-stamped with the current time (e.g. today) and not the time sent (e.g. yesterday). It turns out they have been "sent" again.
Oh dear, I just tinkered to try to pinpoint the problem and I've broken it again.
Further edit:
Actually, far from having fixed it, it seems that now the "stuck" messages only send during a reboot.
Trying to send them when the phone is "on" just leaves them stuck in the outbox. If I power off & on, they leave the outbox... BUT the recipient gets them again.
Damnit.
Any ideas?

I dont think your rooting or any other application will affect this.
tell us what settings are u on when you go to :
On Handcent, go to settings/sent notifications/"What option??"
I think it's not so much the "rooting" as possibly "things I have tinkered with after I got power-crazy after rooting", i.e. trying to disable things I don't need from running at startup. Un-doing that seemed to improve it...
Odd that at the moment it sends during boot. So something runs at boot that sends my outbox messages, but it can't run once the phone is on.
I just uninstalled Handcent and used the stock app. Sent a message first time with no problems...
I will reinstall Handcent and take a look at what happens. I can't not have that app now, I love it (until I broke it).

its exclamation for all....
Well, re-installed Handcent. Seems to be okay now.
It's a bit odd, I never changed the settings in there, as far as I can tell.
Shiwantha, I remember that initially "Sent notifications" was on "Disable" but I changed it to "Notify when sent" when I was having problems, and it made no difference.
Anyway, it's fixed now. Thanks for your help!
A quick follow-up... I like to give as much info as possible in these situations so anyone else who happens to find this problem may find something here that helps...
After re-installing Handcent, there are now two entries in StartUp Manager's "User" section. After my previous tinker-sessions, I could only see one to enable/disable, but I thought there were two before.
So I think that I "broke" one of those start-up entries.
For the record, it is working now and I have:
- Disabled ALL "Messaging" entries in "system" section of Startup Manager
- Left BOTH entries for Handcent SMS in "user" section of Starup Manager
The only conclusion I can think of is that by disabling the "Handcent" entries, I "broke" one of them, and so could only re-enable one of the entries. I assume the other one had some kind of SMS outbox functionality.
I'm just guessing though. But at least I can disable the "messaging" stock apps and it all still works.
FIXED. Relief!

In additon to owning the X10 I own the X1. The message delivery notification was driving me mad on the X1. With the X10 I noticed there is a red X if the message has not been sent. However, once it is send the red X is cleared away. I like it this way much better.
Does anyone know how to prevent phone from receiving text messages? Is there any software that can do that. I don't use text messaging and hate to be charge a fee for receiving text messages.

Give cc a call. those filter softwares reject the sms but your service provider still charge you.
you need to have your carrier block them.
you should be able to do it online (if with tmous), as a free addon service.
is there an app that does this for u
then when i swap back to winmo, i receive them?
im trying to centralize my SMS into my winmo ^_^

There is no other solution. Anything sitting on your phone is not going to save you from being charged for it, as you get charged when the message hits the network, not when it hits your phone.

The only thing I can think of is by using Airplane Mode. But you won't get calls, bluetooth wouldn't work, wifi wouldn't work, etc.. I don't think there is any way to single out text messages.
What about going into network settings, and erasing the entry for the MMSC server?

This would prevent your device from getting them...but because the text is still going through T-Mobiles server side, you would still see a charge on your bill for the message
