Can't go to Hero 5.1 - Hero CDMA General

Tried to go back to 5.1 stock with the RUU thru Flipz. Does not work! Tried nandriod and it said use adb. What are my other options. Just downgrade to fresh 1.1

it's 1.5 not 5.1...
Turn the phone off, reboot into recovery (hold home key while pressing power)
select wipe
select factory reset (you will loose all info on the phone, contacts etc)
reboot.
back to stock w/ root.

Okay everyone, calm down here. OP: I think you upgraded your RUU, and your trying to use a older RUU. What's the error message?
Try this: if it doesn't work, say what the error message is.
1) Go to a 1.5 ROM, for example, Pancake, or fresh, making sure to wipe data/cache.
2)Have it boot
3)Now, try RUU.
By the way, it's 1.5, not 5.1. 5.1 doesn't exist. Yet.

i bet the EVO has 5.1

having trouble with fresh

ok i have installed many roms for my g1, have had the hero for sprint for awhile and everytime I try to do the fresh rom i get errors, ive tried wiping it then installed the update.zip, tried to just overwrite it still errors which always forces me to nandroid restore,
I can do the eclair 2.1 no problem, but fresh always gives me errors. atm i have a rooted sprint htc hero, no custom rom on it atm. any help?
What kind of errors?
Have you tried re-downloading the ROM?
well when i first boot it up i does the "fresh" sound and goes though all the boot ups and says ok, then gets to the last one that says like boot up fresh o somethingthen [wait] i wait, it eventually starts up but mainly alot of force closes,
im thinking of unrooting my phone back to stock and I have been looking at pre kitchen, so once my phone is stock, i just plug my phone in and do auto-root? and thats all i have to do?
because im thinking of going stock then auto rooting for ease.

The long wait after the first flash is normal and you will see that every almost every rom after the first boot. If your phone is totally stock (you mentioned you tried wiping data) then you definitely shouldn't be getting FC's.
Did you wipe your data after using the 2.1 rom and before flashing fresh rom? That would be the easier way to go about things. But using the RUU to flash back to totally stock and starting over wouldn't hurt either.
yeah i have wiped everything and tried, i mean i rooted and hacked my g1 for over a year numerous times, so idk. just quick questions on how to revery back to stock because this have never done. im downloading the RUU 1.56 from here
http://geekfor.me/news/sprint-ruu-fails/
not really sure on steps to go back to stock once I get that file?
and also new to pre kitchen, once my phone is back to stock and unrooted etc... do i just plug in phone to pc, start pre kitchen and click auto rooter?

Once you download that file just extract it and run it. It will walk you through it from there and once it's done you will have a stock from-the-factory Hero. Once you get it booted up and stuff then open the kitchen (get 0.2) and go under the help menu and run the diagnostic tests. As long as sendkeys, adb, and rooting tools pass then go ahead and go to the auto rooter and that's it. If any of those 3 fail then you may not be able to use the rooter.

Try closing the RUU, putting your phone in to fast boot and then checking device manager on your computer to make sure you aren't missing any drivers. If you aren't then start the RUU again.
To go in to fastboot power your phone completely down. Then hold volume down and power. This should get you a screen with 3 skateboarding androids. And then I believe it is volume up for fastboot. Make sure it's plugged in to your comp and confirm device manager is clean, and then run RUU.

A couple of things.
Install HTC Sync or go get the Android SDK to install the ADB driver.
Then run RUU
Boot the phone into fastboot Power off, hold down volume down button while phone is booting back up.
When you are in Fastboot, press Volume up once.
Then plug the USB in and run RUU.
I have Win7 32 and x64 and have been able to do all ADB functions fine with both machines, its a little more cumbersome, but not an issue.
TTG flashing issues
I had TTG and was trying to reflash to MODACO. The Rom wouldn't reflash. I wiped, factory reset.... Just boot looped or froze. A lot of errors and force closes. I'm running GUTTED 1.6 now with no problems. Why would there have been an issue trying to flash MODACO...?

ok first of all that is not a brick! Bricks are when you cannot even power on the device, if you're getting all the way into the ROM that is NOT A BRICK.
Second. Learn what you're doing before you do it. wpthis-Z.ko is for the DZ wpthis-pre-OTA.ko is for the G2, both does not mean better.
Third. Which hboot did you flash? if you flashed the g2 hboot that means that your partitions are gonna be different in which case you should flash the roms from the g2 forum not this one.

My suggestion would be to re-flash the rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832503 has a guide, since you're s-offed you *should* (not positive about this) be able to skip basically everything, grab the rom from RUU and flash it via hboot and you should be fine.

You are NOT bricked, just getting a lotof annoying FORCE CLOSE messages, ain't ???
If so, then this is what I did:
1.- remove the battery 30 secs
2.- hold vol down + power
3.- in bootlader, select "FACTORY RESET" (use vol keys to up-down)
Then my phone rebooted and everything was back to normal

Hi Friend,
I just had similar problem as you.
I rooted phone, flashed hboot s-off and..?
..first my Z was restarting in loop every 2-3 minutes.
I uninstalled VISIONARY+ and apps that force closed every boot.
But still there were many problems with my phone.
I couldn't install many apps from market,
and random ones just disappeared every reboot.
It wasn't nice.
Then I used Clockwork recovery, did clear cache, full wipe,
and the phone is in perfect condition, s-off, with clock-recovery,
after wipe my apps has been restored - including SuperUser,
and its rooted already, after wipe
No need to use VISIONARY+ again!
Try it

Wow. Creative!
Is there anyway to revert back to 1.6, or am I stuck with 2.2.1? I did the factory reset and the phone is running ok, but it ran much better before.
I'm having an issue with the browser.. My phone reboots when I open the browser and try to run a search, or while I'm typing in a website address. However, the phone is stable when I run searches or "go to" websites via the Google widget. Any suggestions?
Thanks,

I had exactly the same problem.
I was quite happy with the speed of 1.6. Got the OTA update to 2.2.1 and I have hated the phone since! Rang HTC to see if anything can be done and as usual no returned calls etc.
I ended up rooting it and using setcpu to get it almost back to how it was but it still has its issues.
I would put a custom rom on but I dont want to risk bricking it just yet.
Download this, rename it to update.zip (not update.zip.zip), and put it on the root of your SD card. Boot into recovery, do the factory reset from there, then select apply update.zip from SD card. Let it do it's thing. The problem is that you did the factory reset AFTER installing, doing it before is the way to go. The file is the official update, so you'll just be re-installing it.
@creative, your past the hard part. Just download/install ROM Manager from Market, select "Flash Custom Recovery", reboot into recovery, wipe, and flash whatever ROM you want. Or just do the above to get the 2.2.1 working better.

Do another factory reset and this time let it sit there (DON'T TOUCH IT!) for a solid 10-15 minutes after it gets to the sign-in screen. This is a very slow phone in the first place and there are all sorts of background processes and "thinking" going on the first time you boot up into new software.
I've flashed many roms on my old mt3g and this genuinely makes a huge difference. Try it.
Oh, and did I mention this phone is just slow in the first place? It is, and it has way too little RAM. Why on earth T-mobile gave us the 32B instead of 32A, I will never know...

Your not going to be able to flash the update.zip if your using CM 6.1, the install will just fail. You'll have to return the phone to stock using the stock sappimg, then apply the update. You will lose root, but you can get it right back using SuperOneClick. Nothing should happen to your phone unless something happens while its updating the radio, which is nearly impossible unless you pop the battery out or drop it or something of that sort during the update (same risk you run if you do the update OTA).
I had the same problem. Before I updated, I formatted the SD and wiped everything. I left the phone on the counter over night after flashing. 6 hours later and it was still pretty bad.
I just went back to stock and I'm going to try Gio's themed ota.
Edit: Gio's version is blazing. Just in case anyone was wondering.

Or you could rename the file to sappimg.zip and power the phone off and hold down the Volume Down + Power and press the Action button (which is just pressing the scroll ball) and it will take you phone back to your factory reset. Then you can root and install you ROM as mentioned above.

No you can't. That update depends on the 1.6 build. It's just patching the 1.6 build to 2.2.1, when your loading up a sappimg, it's looking to update all the partitions (e.g. SPL, recovery, radio, system, data, etc.). So, it won't work this way, and in reality, you should just get an error in hboot trying to run this as a sappimg.
Follow the advice on this attachment. My Magic was useless after update. While not perfect now, this helped a lot.

This thread is sad news to me.....I bought a mytouch last week on eBay expecting to do the froyo update to replace my blackberry 9700 that is having all kinds of issues after a few accidental drops. Sounds like I would be better off flashing it with one of the donut faster roms than going to 2.2
The stock rom provides stock performance and does work fine. Just need to wipe and give it time to finish running all the background processes to sync the Google bits.
I will say root and OC to 614 works wonders: I have been going back and forth between the 1.2 and Fender OTA ROM's making tweeks and have a stable, fast and battery effcient phone with both. Makes me wonder if other members coming from a CM rom or others with OC are basing a lot of their sluggish compliants (after the Google sync is done) from running at 528mhz.
Don't give up, just pop the hood and tweak to your liking.
Kind Regards,
Kevin

pretty much the stock rom is evil made my phone choppy even after a full wipe and i let it boot completely i had to root my phone and put a new rom on there i suggest cm6.1 its stable and good for new rom/root users
Edit:yes the mt3g is old and the fastest i ever seen it was on a rom that wasn't OTA (over the air) its from 09 give it a break. a few months left then i can get a new phone with more ram im almost off my contract lol

[Q] EVO Rom/Root problems

I am having some serious issues with my evo. I have tried 10 different methods, googled 100 different help guides and still no fix.
I had originally rooted my phone using simple root and put the "fixed" froyo rom on there. Everything worked fine, but I was outdated and having some really slow issues so I wanted to try a new rom...Fresh.
Well I tried a few methods, but I somehow reverted my evo back to a nonroot of the original OS. Whenever i go into hboot, my recovery does not work. I push the PC36img and load it, then restart then I attempt to go to my recovery where it gives me the error picture with the yellow/red triangle. I then select recovery (after pressing UP volume and powerbutton) and try to load update from sd card. Everytime I do that I get a Failed error.
I've tried to reroot using several methods off this website, I've done everything I can to get it working but can't. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Ok, so, I think you said you got the RUU working which would have completely restored the phone to unrooted and stock from factory.
Now, you need to re-root your phone using one of the methods on xda. I used the manual method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045. However, many people have had success with the one-click methods.
After you re-root (which will likely included installing a recovery), select a rom you want to try, boot to recovery, wipe and flash it. A great starter ROM is MikFroyo 4.6 or 4.5.
Try downloading the PC36IMG.zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
put that on the root of your SD card, then boot into HBOOT and it should find that PC36IMG.zip after a few seconds and ask if you want to flash it. Choose yes and let it finish. Should then be able to reboot into recovery.
ok thanks, i'll try it when I get back home

Ok, I tried this method...the filesize of pc36img.zip is only 3.5mb, but it didn't seem to work. It scanned the file then just went back to the hboot screen with my options never asking to flash.
I'm going to try to reroot using the other method now...
So I clicked the link and he forwarded to the autoroot.bat page so I used his method. It worked well (the 2nd time around) all the way until it started to push amon_ra_1.8-mod.... then after that it says rebooting into the bootloader, and it reboots into it and just says waiting for phone...
It does appear that my phone is rooted now, but my recovery is still not working. If I use ROM manager will it work since my phone is rooted or do I need to have a rooted ROM to run it off of?

Does your phone show s-off while in the bootloader? If so you should be able to run the FlashZip script and use that to flash the pc36img-sprintlovers zip. That one contains everything needed to bring your phone up to date and will leave you with a rooted rom and recovery.

FINALLY! Thanks a million! My recovery is now working and it installed the built in sprinter lovers rom, I guess the anti-virus was stopping it so I disabled it and ran the flash script. I was able to install Fresh on there, just to try it out. I do have a few questions though:
1. I noticed after going through many pages that to update to a newer ROM version you don't always have to wipe clean, you can just install (or flash) the new update? I noticed in Fresh there is a built in app that does that. Is this true for most ROMS or only certain ones?
2. I assume I am using the RA recovery. I noticed the backup/restore feature on there. What exactly does that backup and when should I use it?
3. I've noticed I've been very low with memory on my phone (not SD card), I have about 258MB free. How can I clear space and when I mount my phone what files are important to keep and can I get rid of, is it okay to get rid of my rom.zip's and radio.zip's?
Thanks again to everyone, autoroot was def the most painless root ever.

FINALLY! Thanks a million! My recovery is now working and it installed the built in sprinter lovers rom, I guess the anti-virus was stopping it so I disabled it and ran the flash script. I was able to install Fresh on there, just to try it out. I do have a few questions though:

1) You'll want to always wipe your cache/dalvik (I do everytime I'm in the recovery) but the Data depends on the ROM. Usually if you are going from one sense rom to another you are ok and the same for AOSP to AOSP. Going from Sense to AOSP you'll need to wipe data though.
2) Autoroot comes with a modified version of AmonRA, they are mostly just speed tweaks. To make a complete backup of your ROM select Boot (kernel), System (ROM), Data (Apps & Settings) and .android (apps on SD card)
3) You can delete the zips from your sd card if you don't need them but that's about normal for free memory.

Please.

Guys please I know this is the wrong forum but no one is answering help. At all. Alright, I went to flash the ICS Sense alpha, and needed to restore a backup. I went into hboot, and restored the PD98IMG.zip. Afterwards it said "Press power to reboot" so i did. The phone turned off, and now nothing. After a LONG time the phone turned on to the White HTC Splash and vibrated CONSTANTLY, until the battery was pulled. I tried volume down + power but nothing. Except for the occasional white screen, nothing. Please, anyone/.
You're bricked

I think your phone had a bootloop. Did you already installed custom recovery? Can you enter it through fastboot menu (vol down + power)?
I doubt he's bricked, why are you restoring that zip? You restore your back up....from clockwork?

It won't enter into fastboot. Occasionally the white HTC screen comes on with a constant vibrate and the only way to stop that is to pull the battery. No fastboot, no recovery, nothing.
It wouldnt enter into recovery so I had to take the long way, by using the PD98IMG

I am confused. So what exactly happens when doing this:
remove or rename the PD98IMG on the sd card
pull the battery from the DHD
re-enter it and hold volume down and power until the hboot starts
navigate by volume down/up to Recovery and press POWER
If you had to restore back to factory, why bother flashing ICS?
You should get away by installing one of the RUU using PC. here is a guide on how to install RUU and you'll have to search this section to find a RUU or google it.
Though firstly i would ask you if you can go into the recovery mode anyhow since you're saying that your phone can get the HTC logo. For that, hold down POWER + volume DOWN key to get you into hboot (IF YOU CAN) and choose recovery from there, once in recovery, go to option where you wipe your data + cache, wipe both of em and try restarting again...If you can't even get into recovery then do the RUU way of getting the rom working.
EDIT:
I'm not sure what in the world happened, but it booted into the ATT stock ROM. After 30 minutes of vibration and idk what else, it finally booted.
Lol least its on

Gratz, suppose this thread's unnecessary now?
Anyway take care of what you do: always do a nandroid backup prior to flashing everything. Better spend 5min for backup than 5 days without a phone.
I think know what happens. If I remember correctly you had your phone replaced. And it came with gb. The pd98 you flashed was the froyo one. Hence the crazy vibration and long boot time. If Im right thisvwill happen each time you reboot Until you get the gb bootloader back on
Also spamming the threads is a pretty good way of getting banned. Maybe zel or Andy will be nice about it

That sounds somewhat correct. I DID get it replaced, but had a GB PD98 on the SD card. Anyway, it vibrated for quite some time, and eventually the vibration stopped. So I let the phone sit as I figured out some way to salvage the phone. And the the next HTC splash booted, and the phone proceeded into the stock ROM. Idk what happened, but I'm not complaining.
Dear Lord, it just turned off and is doing it again. But, I'm praying for the best again. Thanks guys.

When you succesfuly back in your phone, just root it with AAHK and install some custom ROM and you should be fine.

The phone itself is already rooted, but I tried booting into CWM, and it did the same thing as it did before. So I have to run the RUU, and then S on the phone, and run the hack kit again. I already ran the RUU once, and nothing.
Probably best just to start over and do everything again, even if you've already done it,maybe the root didnt work?
Your phones a nightmare mate

So you intentionally created a thread in the wrong section?
I guess the rules don't apply to you then.
