hello all
it costs around $900 here and it will cost half that unlocked from t-mobile on the 24th. is there anything i need to worry about before ordering it for a friend from the states and using it here (Saudi Arabia). we use 2100mhz+900mhz for our 3G band so it should work fine here
anything else i need to worry about before i order it?
i dont think it'll work on saudi 3g, Tmobile uses 1700/2100, not 900. you need both bands to work
are you sure about the two bands thing
i had a t-mobile HTC G1 and 3G worked fine
that's odd, because phones that only share the 2100 band do not work on Tmobile. Perhaps its different the other way around.
the 3g of the g1 (1700/2100) and the Nexus1 (900/1700/2100) both work on our STC/mobily network. i assume the US-HD2 will be the same but i could be wrong cant anybody else confirm. i cant possibly be the only here intrested taking advantage of the US super cheap price
Well, you are not alone but I don't think anybody can confirm one way or another with 100% accuracy. I for one will buy it and then try to use it in Europe (i.e. 2100 MHz UMTS). Like you I've noticed that G1 has exactly the same specs for the radio. It also makes sense that HTC and T-mobile would like to support international roaming. All being said, there is always a chance that things are different this time. I tried to contact both HTC and T-mobile and I received contradictory answers. The only way to be sure is to try it or wait for somebody to report real-world use cases
anyone managed to test this yet?
Has anybody heard anything about when this phone might be released in the UK, really want to get it for my gf?
Cheers
Has nobody heard anything about a possible UK release?
If not does anybody fancy shipping one over to the UK for me, would really like one haha!
Would these radio bands work over in the uk?
Yea it should do, the phone is quad-band so I presume everything would be ok!
No this is not a rom question, I was wondering if anything thinks or knows if it would be possible to swap the internals of a CDMA hero into the chassis of a GSM hero?
Why? Why not?
could someone either take a pic of the back of their hero with the cover off(or more if possible)
or at best show me to a tear down of the gsm hero?
It might technically be possible since the internals of the phones, aside from the radios, are the same. Not sure how that translates to reality though.
Are the area's in the phone, internally the same? If that is so then yes I believe it is possible. A darn hard job to do so but yes. It can be done.
Kinda the same if you think of a Citroen Saxo with an Porche engine. Same size so yea XD
Does anyone know of a site that shows and talks about any differences between the different carrier versions of the S4? Other than the processor?
There are none. Except for maybe modems or something small like that.

4G coverage, bloatware, Verizon's locked bootloader (lol)... I would also like to know if there's more to the list.
they havent been released yet so anything out there would only be speculation anyways.
my guess is that the differences will come down to CDMA vs. GSM, the processor obviously, and 16gb/32gb/64gb, the 16gb version being offered on all carriers and the others only offered on some. aside from the non-hardware differences mentioned already.
I got the following values from phonearena
are these legit? Because these seems very high ... almost close to the limit.
Head 1.49 W/kg
Body 0.81 W/kg
Product Specific Use 1.44 W/kg
Simultaneous Transmission 1.56 W/kg
USA figures
On an Indian website I see its mentioned as 1.18 W/kg
Sorry for the figures i posed they are north american . limit being 1.60
the phone should have the same SAR test regardless if its in India or North America. so which one is the real test result? there needs to be an accurate test done.

i found this on wiki, so i think you're right. now we just need some independent lab results:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Specific_absorption_rate#Mobile_phone_SAR_testing said:
United States: the FCC requires that phones sold have a SAR level at or below 1.6 watts per kilogram (W/kg) taken over the volume containing a mass of 1 gram of tissue that is absorbing the most signal.
European Union: CENELEC specify SAR limits within the EU, following IEC standards. For mobile phones, and other such hand-held devices, the SAR limit is 2 W/kg averaged over the 10 g of tissue absorbing the most signal (IEC 62209-1).
India: switched from the EU limits to the US limits for mobile handsets in 2012. Unlike the US, India will not rely solely on SAR measurements provided by manufacturers; random compliance tests are done by a government-run Telecommunication Engineering Center (TEC) SAR Laboratory on handsets and 10% of towers. All handsets must have a hands free mode.

Regardless. The values are pretty high!

Test results in the United States, should match the test results in india or anywhere else in the world, it is after-all... the same exact phone the testing is being done on. the results should match no matter where you bring the phone to. If any of you have any other test results performed independently, please do share !
let me ask this - if these numbers are solid, is it going to prevent you from buying the phone?

For me, and a few others I know Yes it will prevent them from buying the phone.
I had blackberry phones with high sar rates like the ones listed in the first post, and when talking on the phone .. it would heat up vs my note 3 .
So yes some people actually do look at SAR before purchasing
Checked the FCC for the tests done on the Nexus 6p. See the reports for "exposure" if you're interested. It does list various values for radiation.

Hi, can anyone look into manual and tell me what is the SAR value of Nexus 6P (European version), please ?
I canĀ“t find it on the internet.
Thank you very much!
