flash back to old radio? - Hero CDMA General

Before you start flaming me, please understand I did a thurough search of the forum and found nothing conclusive. What with bricks and RUU semi solutions, its kinda scary.
Im running flipz radio, and would like to flash back to the old one in preperation for the 2.1 update. Has anyone sucesfully flashed back, and if so, how?
I do not have a nandroid containing the old radio (but from what i gather, nandroiddoesnt effect the radio?) due to an accidental sd format (dont ask)
I do have the backup recovery img from my initial root; will this help?
Thanks in advance!

I thank you most kindly for your speedy response. The threads Ive read have all been inconclusive; ill review your link and report back.

Flash went perfect.
Just wanted to thankyou, and apologize for not searching as well as I should have. I guess I was a little scared and just wanted some attention? Lol jk. Mods feel free to delete, or not, as I promised a report.
Ive stuck with the new radio since its come out, and have in no way noticed better battery life or signal; if anything-worse! -89 to -95 on new radio, -75 to 85 stock. Maybe its cause Im in detroit, maybe my phone just doesnt agree with the new radio (we all know how tempermental the Hero is)
Just my personal experience. I apologize for the clutter.
And yes, lets keep our fingers crossed for 2.1..

Lol I did all the fixes.
Even now, responding to your post voa handset, I can tell its faster. And after flashing the radio at 30%battery, and charging since my last post, ive gone up almost double.

So question is...again inconclusive threads.
Can you flash back the old radio then RUU with out issues? Given there is always a chance for a brick but to avoid issues would it be smart to flash the stock radio before running RUU??? Or is the damage already done?

OK ass, I understand you can flash the radio back, but my question is about running RUU afterwards **** head.
Post #4 Says nothing about running the RUU just that he could flash the radio back which we know is possible with other threads out there.
Quit being so damn arrogant and try to answer the question that was asked.
/rant moron.

Someone pass me the popcorn...

Lets not get upset people.
@K; in my not so professional opinion, the RUU issues are when U'ing between a 2.1 based rom and the RUU, a 1.5 rom. If you have the stock radio and any 1.5 rom, theres simply no reason the ruu wont work
Avs radio flash worked for me,.i havent ruu'd yet but i will report back later this week a conclusive thread.
Can you flash back the old radio, RUU, and TRUELY unroot?

I'm in Michigan also and definitely experience a worse signal strength.
Why would I have to flash back to. the old radio for the 2.1 (when it finally does come out )

All Current Radios

here i have all current known radios for the Eris. these radios can be flashed via Amon_RA recovery. ive put them in update.zip format. so all u need to do is place them on the root of ur sdcard and flash like any other update.zip from recovery.
FLASH THESE AT UR OWN RISK. LIKE ANYTHING ELSE U DO TO UR PHONE. IM NOT RESPONSIBLE
INSTRUCTIONS
step one: download and put the desired radio update.zip on to the root of ur sdcard.
step two: flash the update.zip via Amon_RA recovery. by selecting update.zip from sdcard and choosing the radio zip u want.
step three once it flashes it will ask u to press a something to continue. do it and itll reboot and take a few seconds on a bootloader screen. once that finishes, it will reboot back into recovery. from there just choose reboot, to boot into android
step four go into settings>about phone>software information. under baseband is ur radio version. enyoy
now as for the question of which radio is better...
there is no good answer to this question. some enjoy results from different radios. an up graded radio will always do good. as it will most likely give better battery life and signal then the stock radio. all of these radios will work with any rom (1.5 - 2.1) and unless a dev has inclued a radio in their rom. the radio will always remain the same unless u flash it with another.
now for the question about why some radios say heroc instead of eris...
the heroc radio are just that... heroc radios from sprint. its a cdma radio so it works the same as verizon radio. dont believe me?! do a strings | grep on all the radios and u will see they are all using both sprint and verizon logins and such. also as right now im running the latest radio which is the heroc one. everything works fine and its the one ive had best results with on both my Sprint Hero and my wifes Verizon Eris. although others may find better results with other versions.
please feel free to post ur radio results here on this thread.

Nope, everything should work fine, i use to use sprint radio's all the time on my winmo devices, i allways thought they worked better
its only been 10 minutes or so since i flashed the latest radio, but my 'Time without a signal %' is at zero without the Airplane Mode trick will keep checking, but this seems to be good news! Not that I have ANY idea if that bug could even be related to this haha, but whatever, as long as it works..
edit: well over an hour now..still 0%
edit2: started doing it again after the next reboot, airplane trick still needed

just dont forget to give credit. i didnt get these radios in update.zip form. so i did all that work myself. also took the time to flash each of them before posting to make sure all was good and they all worked
Please be careful guys, I would not flash your radio without a reason to.
However thanks for the tutorial, I have another eris radio version, but I don't think it would be wise to flash it. Do you want it?

have had the newest eris radio for a couple hours now and can say that the signal strength has signifigantly improved and can't confirm battery drainage at this point but the signal strength is there for sure...jcase why would it not be advisable to flash a radio update?

also there is no reason to try and scare people about these radios ive posted. they all work and it will do no harm to flash them. ive noticed better reception and battery life since flashing the latest sprint radio on both my heroc and eris. if anyone flashed the root leak they got a radio that ive posted here. its actually an older radio at that.
but yeah if u are sure u have an eris or sprint radio. then please give me the info and ill test it.

flashing anything can be risky. but i wouldnt have posted this or anything else that i have not tested myself. i wouldnt ever post something that would put anyones device at risk. ive flashed many radios and know what im doing. i wouldnt advise anyoone to go out and find mystery radios to flash as that is a sure fire way to brick ur device.
again all of my radios were tested by me before i posted and they all work well

toastcfh of course you get credit, i'm just trying to have a nice organized site with tutorials and files locally hosted as an alternative. XDA becomes pretty cluttered at times. I hope you don't mind I did some spelling corrections

I have a reason to inform them they are running a risk. A lot of people out there have no clue what they are doing nor risks involved. If something happens, say some idiot pulled the battery, or flashed on a low battery, bad things could happen. or if a file happens to be corrupted.
I have the radios from stock 1.5, root 2.1 and leak 2.1, which do you not have.

pri flipz?

i tried out flipz latest, just to take a glance. i didnt read carefully enough apparently, because i dodnt realize he had put an autoupdate script at bootup of sense
now im back to damage, but flipz remains under pri. am i ok, or should i revert back, and if i need to roll back, how?
don't know what issues may lurk.just to be safe I ended up doing the 1.56 RUU update, doing the full reset (once I called Sprint and got my MSL), then rooted again.
Its a custom pri he put in to the rom. I guess to help with the pri issues. I haven't had any issues with it. I can do a update profile and prl.

i did try to use the kitchen, it would get up to the point where it would go into recovery mode then just stay stuck at the HTC logo recovery screen, also when i was doing it it says pre-kitchen has identified that you are not running a stock sprint rom, even though i was completely stock 1.5.

Why do all the devs claim "official" ruu??

I have noticed that most of the roms put out lately claim they are based on the official ruu yet many people still have the audio loss problem and when they bite the bullet and install the real official ruu from sprint their problem disappears.
If all these so called "official 2.1" roms were really official would the audio loss problem not have disappeared in them too?
Also, if they are truly official why does the thread on "2.1 rooting status" even exist?

In the 2.1 RUU, there is a ROM file, just like every other ROM you've ever flashed. The RUU updated the HBOOT, so if you run it, it updates a lot more than just a normal ROM flash does. The 2.1 rooting status thread exists for the people who ran the actual 2.1 RUU. It's an HBOOT root status thread.
As for the other question, I'm not entirely sure. I was under the impression that all the devs were still using the leak from about a week before the official RUU.
The audio issue is random, i for one have never had it once yet.
same here, not on any rom.

Ruu and rom are totally different things and I don't know about the audio loss thing because I also have never had it. And you do got a point about the rom thing but if you read flipz he basically tells you that because of the new system.img that His "fixes" may not work right (not word for word)
I've never experienced the sound rape either.
I knew I was going to get blasted for those questions but I figured why not...at least it got me the answer as to why these official roms don't solve the problem.
I am one of those w/ the audio problem and tried a couple of the "official" releases that didn't fix the prob and I never saw a good explanation as to why posted anywhere. Now I have.
If someone can explain, what in the Hboot could it be that fixes the audio problem people are having with the official roms minus the new hboot?

i will second that. it is random, on my first hero i had the audio issues all the time, on my refurb ive flashed the same amount of roms and never ran into an audio issue yet. its random phones that it happens to i believe, mind you that the first hero i had i got on launch day, ive only had my refurb 2 months or something like that
The issue is caused by audio drivers in the kernel not resetting. we do not have the source for .29 kernel so there is no fix. we dont know why this effects some people and not others. cyanogen has worked on the issue and he does not have fix. many other forums have reported this issue with no fix. i chatted with a google engineer and he does not have fix. there is no fix that we know of except replacing the kernel with an older version that works. Since the audio drivers do not reset it does not allow anything to read them. so it continues resetting and resetting and this causes the cpu to be pegged by the constant retry and retry
recompiling the kernel seems to have fixed it. im thinking when toast compiled the OC kernel he changed some things that fixed it.
now lol at this thread. we did not make the official rom. google, sprint, and htc did. "official" means that everyone on the network receives the update. there are gonna be problems.

That's what I did. But RUU may make odd things happen, a few users who did BOTH and then RUU'd lost s-off functions but still had s-off. So if you're going to do both just commit to never RUUing. If you want fastbooot commands you need darchs. Darchs is undone by RUU. If you are good with just HERCIMG.zips then regaws wil do, but will NOT be undone by RUU.
i know this is somewhat off topic.. but i love the title of this thread..
its like a feeling we all have at first.. we are a little embarrased after our first flash.. and ask ourselves "is it ok to flash??".. then we end up flashing everywhere and all of the time..

Oostah, I was sorry to read about your phone issues and I thought it was great how you didn't give up and got it solved.
The 1st time I went S-off, I only used Darch's Eng Spl. I RUU'd to try and solve my phones intermittent (Rom flashing) issues. So, I lost S-off obviously and used Regaw's to root and then decided to do Regaw's S-off (since I had the 1.47 bootloader now), then, I did Darch's as well even though I don't use fastboot commands often, but it's a nice option to have. I didn't know about the issues that Il Duce brought up (but he would know since he is so active on XDA). I know that there are many who have gone the same route to get S-off.
It has been a lifesaver for me when I lost my recovery some how. If you just want temporary s-off, you might just want to just do Darch's since Regaws is permanent at this point.
Good luck and Happy Flashing!

and to your original question, i only used darch's eng-spl, because i was wary of the same issues that il duce was mentioning (although i have no intentions of ruuing).. but i have read of others doing it that way and it works for them.. for me i only deal with the eng-spl, because if i ruu and reroot i dont mind reflashing it..

Good luck and Happy Flashing!

when i got it back to recovery and the bootloader. i should have flashed a radio before trying to flash the s-off. the s-off and radio didnt play nice to gether. 95% sure that i could have got it back. but i no how now to get it back if any one gets in that state. HTC is going to replace it. its only 9 months old and HTC have a 1yr warranty. my phone new one should here any time now.

the more i think about it if was able to use fastboot commands i would have been up and running in no time.. thats way i was asking about doing both.

Duce, pstevep, and oostah I had the same issues that Duce described but it was of no big concern ,because I'm on a different phone. But I've been trying to keep up with you guys over in the Mild_salsa thread and help.So before I got my new phone a I used regaws s-off and Darchs together ,evrything was groovy as they say.I when I get my new phone ,I unroot my hero and then I start to try to help with your mms issues over in the other thread.Lo and behold I can't flash any HECRIMG's from the bootloader, can't figure it out then I come upon this thread :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971550
Seems when I put my 2GB card back in my hero and re-formatted it I didn't notice that it was set to formatt at FAT not FAT32. So I take it out today and re-formatt to FAT32 and (How does that chef from LA. say BAAMM!) my bootloader now recognizes the HERCIMG.zip.(I just tested it again took out my card formatted it to FAT booted into bootloader and it didnot recognize the HERCIMG,took it out reformatted it in FAT32 and BAAMM! lol it recognized ther HERCIMG.)
So as I'm not a wordsmith like Duce and pstevep I'll leave the helpin and splainin to them as they do a momentus job round here helpin others along with TK,User ,Kuyoko and many others, anyone left out was not intentional.
oostah glad you won your battle although it may not have turned out like you wanted, but ultimately you will have a Hot little Hero in your hands
Peace guys
