i had to take some shots of these while i can, it looked pretty freakin cool
As weird as it sounds... I like that method... wish we could change where the pull bar was on the phone. I would totally put mine on the side. And if we could change the notificiation bar to the bottom that would be a nother neat little tweak.
nice, looks pretty good on the side. would it be possible to mod it in someway to always be on the side?
I had ADP1 installed and my topbar icons were having a seizure. They kept flashing and moving really fast. I wonder if its a problem with ADP1. I went back to RC30 and no more problems.
Reveal your secrets!!!
That's pretty sweet. Wish we could do something like that on purpose..lol
I got those same effects with that one program I can't remember what it was. O yeah I think its called PHOTOSHOP. Nah I'm just jokin around. I was just surprised I was the first person to call shenanigans. That's pretty cool, I'm sure we'll have the option to do that soon. Thanks for the screenies. Please no flaming, as I said I was joking = D

lol its ok i dont kno how to photoshop anyway lol n i do wish there was a way to puposely move the tab and notification around
well im gonna say that this will happen with time! it looks as if the ui is all xml files which means as we start talking the android code more we will see some pretty trick stuff! this began to happen with my t mobile shadow! we could edit just about anything! so with time comes custom android! just remember thats android itself is fairly young! and it takes time to hack the sheezie out of these things! open source or not
Here are the XML files in question:
For landscape view:
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=pl...her.git;a=blob;f=res/layout-land/launcher.xml
Line 63:
launcher:direction="vertical" />
For portrait view:
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=pl...her.git;a=blob;f=res/layout-port/launcher.xml
Line 63:
launcher:direction="horizontal" />
my phone did that before. it happened when i first got it(stock rc30). a program was causing it to happen. i cant remember which one right now.. but it would force close and when i'd close the keyboard the screen would rotate with the apps bar.
Im pretty sure we all agree that the EVO has sub-par notifications. It doesn't have alternative colors for the LED and when plugged in you get absolutely no notification, unless you use that app that I forgot the name of...
But anyways I was wondering if it would be possible to use the capacitive buttons as a Notification source.
Maybe we could have the home button blink for sms
the menu for calls, return for emails, etc. I don't know much about software development and all that crud, but I was just reading this idea on another phones forum and I figured it would be something extremely worthwhile for evo users, and in all honesty, its a pretty dam brilliant idea if we could just get it to work.
don't bash me if its not even possible. I was just simply trying to help my fellow EVO users by sharing a creative thought.
in the theme and app section there is apk that does this already well it flashes all of them for notifications

look at post number 8 for the apk
That app was for the Samsung Moment, it doesnt work on the EVO.....
You know this idea isn't half bad and it may be possible through a combination of the kernel and an application. For reference there is a hack someone made for the G1 that allows you to use the leds under the buttons for notification of the sd card. Here's the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685947
That said, maybe we could use this idea to help us with this hack.
i would be more than happy to donate if someone could get this working. missing this feature from my pre

Would be awesome.
How are blinking buttons better than a blinking LED?
I think more convenient than flashing the capacitive buttons (which would probably use more battery too) is just flashing the LED for more than 5 minutes (indefinitely), and also flashing the LED even during charging, as I mentioned in this thread forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712803.

the buttons wouldn't have to flash continuously. It could be just for a few seconds and we can set up reminders like every 5 or 10 mins, that way hardly any battery life is consumed..
Can we install themes on stock-non rooted phones?

Hi mate,
It depends on how intrusive the theme is, in other words, if it is going to change settings and notifications menu, then u need a root+deodexed rom which can accept most of the built themes.
try to install a launcher like Go or ADW launchers, then change their theming options, this will keep u happy
Edit: However, if u decided to jump to the world of custom roms, then the sky is ur limit
for me I rooted my previous gs2 but after replacing it (due to speaker problem) I still dont find a reason to root+custom my phone, its gr8 out of the box.
p.s. dont listen to junky users who r *****ing about the performance of the phone. they r crying about things that they dont mind if the name of the device name is Iphone ,,,,,,, coming from sgs this device is a real replacement for a computer OTG
Hi dr thanks for your reply,
I absolutely love my phone so no complaints about performance at all! I am not into rooting my devise, just wanted to change the notification bar ie battery icon but thats it, I'm very happy with touch wiz etc best phone I've had!
So how easy would it be to just change the battery icon to be like the one on the sgs1?
@drreality +1 man! True story.
To change batteryicon im pretty sure you need to root as the icons are placed in the system folders
Ah ok lets say I pluck up the courage to root easily, how would I go about downloading just a battery icon and install it with stock Rom?

There are lots of apps on the market that can give you another battery icon in the status bar without rooting, although they won't replace your defaultbattery icon, so you will have 2 battery icons, one on the left part of the phone and the default one in the right part of the notification bar.

Hey guys,
I noticed when I plug in headphones it pops that stupid little icon up saying "You have earphones plugged, want to launch mah crap?" and found it rather annoying. Especially because I use the Google Music app, and when you're playing music there's two pairs of headphones. Looks cluttered.
After a little snooping through system APKs for which one looks after that I found that it's called ContextAwareService.apk in /system/app/
If you delete this the audio applications area doesn't show up in the notification area as well as the headphones icon.
If you want to remove it, back up the APK first because I don't know if it stops anything else (I haven't noticed anything breaking). If you didn't back it up... you're lucky because I've attached the original APK.
Hope this helps someone, I saw people wondering if you can modify that list. I personally just wanted to remove it because I removed the Samsung crap and it was displaying an empty area and two headphones when I used the Google Music app.
You do need to be rooted for this, and my suggestion is to use Root Explorer if you don't know your way around ADB
i dont mind it i just wish i could change the garbage listed in it.
It can also just be frozen with titanium backup if rooted.
Can anyone confirm if this disables anything else?

Thank you very much! I can't get my head around why that icon even exists? I mean do we really need a reminder that we have our headphones plugged in? Are we that stupid?
Used TB to freeze that service and it worked great. Thanks again.
Now wondering what else gets affected by that service?

I've had it frozen all day and haven't noticed any problems as of yet. So far so good. It's nice to have that clutter gone. Thanks again.

Glad to be of Service! When in doubt, delete it and see what breaks.

YES! I was wondering the same thing just yesterday. 2 headphone icons so you know that music is play (I'm deaf?) and that headphones are plugged in (I'm blind?).

For those who have yet to root, you can also use the ICS Disable App function. Seems to work just fine for removing it. I would be interested in modifying the apps and use it, but until we can mod it, I will disable it.

How do you disable a service without root? I don't think this is an actual app... right?
what is the big deal about a headphone icon? are you sitting there staring at it or something? lol smh

If you go under Settings -> App Manager -> All -> And it's in that list, much safer and easier than TitaniumBackup and ADB, and it's easily reversible.

It's more of a preference, I don't like a bunch of icons at the top. Might be a little bit of a minimalist. I prefer to keep that area clean for notifications instead of notifying me that I have a headset/aux cable plugged in.
Long shot.
Do you know how we can get rid of the persistant connected to wifi in teh notification area?
It is not needed and steals from real estate.
Thank you. After knocking out the ongoing wifi notification and the annoying wifi pop-up, this was my last annoyance.
Now that I've frozen it with Titanium Backup, it's all good.

Edit: Didn't notice someone else already answered it, my bad, sorry for the spam.
Go into settings, then application manager, then all and find it. If you click on it it will give you the option to disable it.
This is exactly what I have been looking for, thanks!
Don't know if anyone's said this but, you could name it to .bak so it doesn't go away.

Hello guys,
im quiet new to xda and to rooting as well.
i read, tried to inform myself and then tried rooting and flashing a custom rom becaused i really liked the idea to discover new features, looks and to empower my device.
anywayi rooted my device, backed it up properly and searched for a custom rom where i found xnote Rom and really liked it.
i flashed it with twrp and it works fine i just wonder about a little issue i have now but cant remember if its there from the start (since i flashed it this morning) but i guess it occured after a few and not immediately.
getting finally to the point, on the top left corner of the screen there is a white line just when the display is about to end, i dont know how to explain it better (the old iphone jailbreak (3gs,4) had a similar line in the middle of the screen when booting while the apple logo appeared, if this might help someone to figure out what i actually mean).
i made a screenshot from my homescreen but i doubt its visible from there because of its thinness, i tried to give you and idea of its location with the red arrow though.
i wonder how to fix it ? should i flash again or is it even a well known issue?
help appreciated
thanks for reading

It's a battery bar, some user doesn't like the usual "Battery" icon on the notification and want minimalism instead. So they remove the those icon but need at least an indication to know the battery levels.
Imagine the whole top line that showing up is your battery life.
