I have a problem with mounting my phone in Windows (see here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841645) and I need to return it for testing.
How can I flash it back to stock without a USB connection?
E.E.
Assuming you're rooted and on a custom ROM
You will need unlimited data to try this.
Not sure if this will work, but please do try.
1. Make sure your phone is juiced up.
2. Download the Stock RUU you want from the internet - save to your sdcard
3. Download another sense based ROM that you has no issues with the USB cable - check the post and changelogs.
4. Perform rom backup with ROM manager (get from android market)
5. Wipe and flash new Sense based ROM on your phone.
6. Once your phone is booted, the USB SHOULD WORK.
7. Move RUU to your PC. Link to HTC sync - phone should be set to sync.
8. Install RUU.
And once it is one, you have unrooted and are back to stock ROM.
Should your USB fail at stage 6, you should try a different custom ROM.
If it's still not working, you might want to search how to USB unbrick (i think there's something like that on the forums).
Unfortunately its not a rom problem. The USB issue seems to be a hardware problem.
I have flashed multiple different backups from CM6 to myvery first backup I made of the newly rooted rom.
I just need to put a stock rom on it so that I can get warranteed service. Otherwise I'm pretty sure they'll just shoot it back to me, marked warranty void.
E.E.
Have you tried this?
It's to unbrick your usb
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7616115#post7616115
I had also problems with mounting USB, can't tell if they were the same as I don't use windows and can't tell how it behaves. My problem was solved after I flashed the rooted vodafone FroYo. Maybe this could help you, too.
I haven't tested it yet but it may be as simple as downloading the zip from shipped-roms.
Renaming it to update.zip and flashing it from Recovery.
Can anyone confirm?
E.E.
Actually the best solution I've found yet is this one here from the CM forums.
This using the .img files from the zip I downloaded from Shipped-Roms earlier
Instructions
---------------
1. Boot n1 to fastboot mode
2. Extract the FRG33 files to your tools directory in PC (you need system.img and boot.img)
3. In your tools directory, fastboot the following commands
fastboot flash system system.img
WAIT
fastboot flash boot boot.img
WAIT
Reboot
Alternative method
------------------------
Rename the stock file to passimg.zip
Now you need to use ADB to get it on the SD card, or just copy file to sd card root directory
Command: adb push passimg.zip /sdcard
Now get into the bootloader and it should detect the passimg.zip file and ask if you want to install it.

Since I have Fastboot available to me, this seems the most hopeful method.
Can anyone confirm is this not just hopeful thinking?

I can't post in the development forums so I figured I would ask here:
I understand how to use adb and fastboot, etc.. What I am missing is with the new ICS ROM it states that I must "fastboot flash system system.img"; however none of the ICS zip file I have seen come with a system.img file (just the boot.img).
Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated..
I used the version available on Rootzwiki... not sure if thats the answer you wanted. I'm running 4.0.3 ICS on my wifi XOOM OC to 1.54. No FC's, reboots or anything of the sort. You'll need to be sure that you have su-install.zip, and other img files needed. As I said, you'll find them all on the rootzwiki website under xoom hope this helps, if not good luck.
You are talking about two different things here. I don't know where to start here you're all mixed up. There are several ways to flash a ROM, you can fastboot flash the .img files such as what you are referencing to. Or you can flash an update .zip file from recovery. The way you flash the ROM depends on the source, if its a bunch of *.img files you use fastboot, if it's a *.zip file you use recovery. Just follow the directions given for installation that are provided with the ROM you are downloading.

Hello, and welcome to XDA! =] Anyways on with your question. There are two ways to flash a ROM to your xoom. One being fastboot/adb, where you use the command line on your computer to send commands to your device and make it do stuff. This is where you use system.img, boot.img, recovery.img.
The second, is CWM (ClockWorkMod recovery) This, as far as im aware, is the most common way. This is where the .zip's come in. Because you take the .zip you put it on your external SD card. boot into recovery (after flashing CWM of course) and flash the rom. CWM is nice because you can also make a 100% snapshot of your internal memory state via making a nanodroid back up. That way if anything messes up you have a 100% backup you can restore at anytime if you need it.
In a nutshell, You use *.img files with fastboot and .zip files with CWM.
Anyways. If you're new to rooting. Please check out these two threads, They'll help you get started. =]

How to root Lenovo TAB A7-40 A3500-FL?
[Solved] See the guide below!
Device info:
Model number: Lenovo A3500-FL
Android version: 4.4.2
Kernel version: 3.4.67
Build number: A3500FL_A442_01_25_140823_SE
BB Chip: MT6582
MS Board. A3500FL
Bar code: this was my device's serial number
SW Ver.: ALPS.KK1.MP1.V2.10
Custom Build Verno.: 1408775889
Managed to get cwm and root with this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...vo-a3500-h-t2879208/post55491817#post55491817
Modified the guide for Lenovo A3500-FL!
EDIT: Also some users have reported that this guide doesn't do the trick or is out-dated, so copypasted the guide from this post here.
Guide
1. Download attachment cwmRecovery.zip and download latest Flash_tool (version 5.1352.0) can be downloaded from here)
1.1. Enable USB-debugging. (How to do this)
2. Manually install the drivers from the attachment a7_40_drivers.zip for the LenovoTablet before plugin it to computer (win7 dirvers work for win8 too).
2.1. To install unsigned/uncertified drivers on Windows 7: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/3914-windows-7-how-to-install-unsigned-drivers
2.2. To install unsigned/uncertified drivers on Windows 8: http://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how...8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/
2.3. After you have disabled the driver signature verification, you can install the drivers like this: Right click My computer, Manage, Device Manager, right click your computer at the top, Add Legacy hardware, next, Install plapla manually, next, Show all Devices, Have a Disk.., Browse to the driver folder where you unzip them, choose example windows7 and the 64 version (win7 drivers work for win8.x too), install every device. Then follow the guide.
(Note: Otherwise Windows only installs the normal automatic drivers and its more difficult to install the other drivers.)
2.4. Plug your device to PC.
3. Download the latest supersu zip file (version 2.46) from attachments or from https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/
3.1. Move the zip.-file to the Sdcard.
4. Turn off your device.
5. Unpack cwmRecovery.zip
6. Run Flash_tool.exe with Admin Rights.
7. Chose Scatter-Loading and choose MT6582_Android_scatter.txt (in Recovery folder).
7.1. Now you will see checekd only one checkbox - recovery, if not click on it and choose recovery.img
7.2. Press Download.
7.3. Connect your device.
7.4. Wait few seconds.
8. Have CWM on your device .
9. Unplug your device.
10. . Boot to cmw recovery by turning off your device. Then press and hold VOL DOWN + VOL UP and then also press and hold POWER for about 7 seconds.
10.1. Choose " Install zip from sdcard." (To confrim always use the Power Button)
10.2. Choose "zip from sdcard".
10.3. Select SuperSU-v2.46.zip from sdcard and apply.
10.4. Have a rooted tablet.
It might be necessary to always flash the CWM with the Flashtool directly before you startup the device. Otherwise it will start the original AndroidRecovery again.
It might also be necessary to use different drivers from here.
If the supersu zip doesn't install, try toggling the signature verification to disabled from cwm->install zip from sdcard->toggle signature verification.
Tested and working on Levono A7-40 3500-FL with kitkat update, build number A3500FL_A442_01_25_140823_SE, from ota. Attached screenshot for proof. Also other people have reported that this works for later updates too, for example A3500FL_A442_01_27_141127_SE.
You can update to the latest OTA firmware by first going back to stock recovery. See the second post for the guide.
Thanks and credits go to: @Koli96 and @bobais
How to go back to stock rom/recovery and update to latest Lenovo OTA firmware update
So, it's pretty simple, you take the stock_recovery.zip from the first post, extract it, and replace recovery.img in the recovery folder with the stock one.
Then :
Quote:
4. Turn off your device.
6. Run Flash_tool.exe with Admin Rights
7. Chose Scatter-Loading and choose MT6582_Android_scatter.txt (in Recovery folder)
7.1. Now you will see checekd only one checkbox - recovery, if not click on it and choose recovery.img
7.2.. Press Download
7.3. Connect your device
7.4. Wait few seconds.
And that's it !
On a side note, if it seems stuck on a black screen with a loading circle after factory reset, you have to put the tablet in landscape mode and restart (the shutdown menu appears without any problem) - this issue doesn't seem related to recovery, but a bug within lenovo firmware and the first configuration screen.
Side note 2: The first boot after flashing new update might take 15mins.
Side note 3: After updating to the latest OTA you can go back to cwm recovery with the guide from the first post.

I got the same tablet and I also am looking for a root. :/
Another waiting for rooting lenovo owner.
Same here, i was looking for a root guide and i couldn't find anything.
Does anyone else has a problem with long charging times?
Well it charges long and the charge stays long, so no issue here.
Seems that not that many lenovos root easily, but of course this is a pretty new device(?).

Installed everything and tried vroot once again (I have tried it before).
Still not rooted. And btw that vroot at least tries to install bunch of bloatware crap on the pc.
Edit:
I would suggest for anyone who installed Vroot to your pc to scan the whole pc after you uninstall the vroot.
Here are the scanning tools:
Malwarebytes
adwcleaner
superantispyware
hitmanpro

I got a successful root by flashing Recovery.rar from lenovo-forums.ru, (it's easy to google, I'm not allowed to post links) with the included SPFlash Tool and afterwards flashing the needed SU binaryies and apk. However, this will mess up the OTA updates, and I can't find the stock recovery again.
Therefore, I really beg anyone having the stock recovery to post it, enabling us to switch between them, whenever we want to apply any OTAs.
Thanks a lot!

Well I very highly doubt that there will be any more updates for a device with this price range. And since the next android version is the L version, which requires more work than before.
Edit2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-lenovo-a3500-h-t2879208 found this. Tested and it works. Will edit it to the first post.

I dont know what you two are trying to do but this thread is about rooting the lenovo A3500-FL not about lenovo stock rom.
Rooting..
Yes indeed, that's what I'm trying to do. Rooting the A3500-FL. According to the instructions you need to install the SuperSU from a zip on your SD card. When I try do that it gets interrupted every time. Installing recovery went well. So I'm not getting what I do wrong? Any ideas?

Then it starts installation, but aborts it in a few seconds. So am I booting to just a normal recovery mode and not CWM? (Sorry if all this seems totally ignorant, I have only flashed roms before, never rooted a new device)

Yup.. This is the problem. The recovery runs fine from Flash Tool and claims it installs it. (Download ok) But I still don't seem to have CWM on the device. It's just normal recovery mode. So any ideas about the CWM-installation? What could possibly go wrong? I get no error messages. Cheers.

Hello I am new to the world of flashing and I thought i'd give rooting a try. I followed a guide on this website (http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-2/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3146568) but I messed up- I do not have a ROM (i think) now, so I cannot use my phone.
I, obviously, made a backup using TWRP but apparently it didn't save and/or I cannot find it.
I cannot figure out how to push a file onto my phone as it is only recognisable by my PC when it is in fastboot mode. I am able to access recovery mode but I do not know what to do from here. Any help would be appreciated as I really need my phone .
Thanks, Ethan
Indeed you bricked your phone. You need to perform full recorvery. The guide is on this forum amost 1st of topic.
Follow this link it will recor you phone to stock 3.x oxygen then just upgrade on MM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-2/general/guide-unbrick-recover-oneplus-2-to-t3269543
P. S. THE guide works 100% so if its not working for you read it correctly
Try to go to the advanced menu (if you're using TWRP) and find an option called Adb Sideload or something. Now shift + right click the folder on your pc where the ROM is and click on open command prompt here. Then you can just type adb sideload filename.zip

Of course you can, just make sure after install TWRP

Happy flash.
P.S.: the question is legitimate, but it would make sense if nougat had come out lately...

Thanks, can you describe a software for a total backup? After backup, I need to unlock the bootloader and then I can flash the TWRP with fastboot?? Can you make a guide for all? Thanks for all
Hi, I just came home from work ..
What model of device do you have? Is it a VENUS (VNS) or a PRAGUE (PRA) one?
Write here complete firmware you have..
Later I reconnect, now I have to go ..
For apps, search the internet for the ones you need to backup, you can also use your huawei backup apps...
the rest as files or music, photos, videos, copy them on your computer ..
There are apps on the store to backup phone calls, text messages, etc., just search ..
When you feel relaxed about copying all your important things on your computer,
go to step 2, ie unlocking the bootloader, custom recovery flash, and so on ...
What is very important is to read more than one time GUIDES you need to follow...
Always one thing at a time

Hey Tommy,
you have the same phone as mine... L31 single sim..
Well, do you already have your bootloader unlock number ? If yes you can proceed, if not.... well... we will talk anymore...
About "how to", yes you can use commands with fastboot or use k1ll3r8e's toolkit that makes all things you need, including:
another huawei backup via hisuite, unlock BT, download and flash custom recovery (TWRP), root ie HOW TO..
So download all files and copy SU to your SD card:
@k1ll3r8e toolkit and install on PC;
@OldDroid TWRP and put wherever you want (on your PC);
Official SuperSU 2.82;
A very IMPORTANT thing is before connect phone to PC enable/disable things as showed in THIS screenshot !!!
Then open toolkit, go in bootloader TAB and install hisuite drivers on PC.
When you ready dude, quote here, will replay ASAP ..
Peace

Hi, you can do what you want with your phone, you can choose what you planned to do my friend or do nothing....
In your previous post you wrote about lock screen you can't disable... investigate about this, could be very important. What you do with your phone is at your onw responsibility, you know.. just adviced....
In post number #3 you wrote:
"I need to unlock the bootloader and then I can flash the TWRP with fastboot??",

So choose your method, fastboot or toolkit, or a guide HERE in @dariomrk's thread that use Magisk...
For fastboot search and download here on XDA, for toolkit i already posted you the link to the main thread, Search in each thread you will find the HOW TO section.
Just follow guides, use search, ask users/dev for helps...
If something goes wrong don't point your finger at me...
Where i'm wrong other members feels free to correct me whenever they want... thank you guys.
Good luck !!
P.S.: Some basic knowledge needed to root your phone, so if you think you don't have, just give up, sorry but necessary i write this.

In your previous post you wrote about lock screen you can't disable... investigate about this, could be very important. What you do with your phone is at your onw responsibility, you know.. just adviced....
In post number #3 you wrote:
"I need to unlock the bootloader and then I can flash the TWRP with fastboot??",
and in post #6 i wrote: "About "how to", yes you can use commands with fastboot or use k1ll3r8e's toolkit that makes all things you need, including:
another huawei backup via hisuite, unlock BT, download and flash custom recovery (TWRP), root ie HOW TO..".
