Hi, I try to install 2 different cab for have 3g switch on comm manager.
My problem is that these 3g switch, don't go to "3g", but switch from gsm to "Auto", so if there is gsm band, it use that and don't force to 3g (WCDMA).
How can i solve?
Thanks!
When on "Auto" it will use 3G if present. So if you still get GSM, it means there's no 3G coverage there and you'd have no network if it forced 3G

Sorry but here there is HSDPA and 3G coverage, if i Force 3g it go fine, but if i try use the switch it use edge (GSM).
Now i partially solved with a shortcut in start menu of CMBandSwitching.exe
Check in the phone options whether you're on auto (wcdma preferred) or auto (gsm preferred).

Where am i looking for preferred band when it's on auto?
On some ROMs you can choose the preferred one, apparently not on yours

is there a program to do that for windows mobile? so that the connection wont fall back to gprs or edge and always use 3G or hsdpa?
in sierra wireless aircard there is an option to set that.
i think there's an option in setting, personal, phone
go to band tab and change network type to WCDMA and change band to UMTS
it works but now phone call also using the 3G network always. how to set only if making data call?

If you want to do this band change easyly, can use the tools on
this post, if you want the phone change band smartly, better you flash a good WM6.5 ROM.
Check more info on this thread.
i have a similar question but it is related to forcing the phone to switch from 3G to HSDPA mode when active data transfer occurs..
thanks..
Hello xda-developers.com,
I was wandering if it is possible to force my HD2 (running Windows Mobile 6.5) to only accept a data connection if it is 3G/HSPA instead of the normal GSM . Where I live, the connection is poor, although even when it has zero bars of reception, the connection is good and fast response through websites (latency is low on the mobile speed test).
Even though the phone thinks it's poor reception and thus switches to GSM, is there a way to block GSM and only accept a 3G/HSPA connection?
Thanks for any help,
Thazandril.
EDIT: GSM/GPRS I don't know which one it is, it just has a big G as the connection symbol, and it's terribly slow.
in my phone settings->phone->band
select your gsm/umts band.
I can choose
UMTS
and it only use 3g/hspa

Hi Rudegar,
Thank you for the fast response, however, I cannot seem to find that option anywhere in my settings. I've checked the 'connections' but can't find anything that sounds like what you have mentioned in your post.

Go to Settings -> Menu, All Settings -> Personal -> Phone
That will take you to the right area, then just have a look through those options.
Thanks a lot, cheers for the help, have a good one!
Does anyone know how to turn of 3G as its sucking my phone dry and it lasts for less than a day. i installed a cab file and now i no longer get the 3g connection in the manager. Is there another way to disable it as i can see it switching between the networks and 3g is on and off like crazy.
U should really considering searching before u ask something like that
going to phone>menu>options>band is the same as going to settings>phone>band.
i checked the options in connection manager and advanced but never saw anything which said 3G, is it a band setting i need to change instead, if so what is the band setting to not use 3G?

WCDMA = 3G. So just set network type to "GSM" instead of "Automatic".

thanks this worked a treat!
I keep noticing the data status going from 3G and HSPDA every now and then even when I have full bars. This can't be good...
Anyone else experience this?
Is there a fix?
I also get the switching thing on my phone but only when the HSPA signal is weak and it's not that often. Is this affecting the battery life on your cell phone?
It's normal. If you have issues just set it to use 2g only mode as that saves a heap of power

How do I set this? I checked in settings->wireless and network->mobile networks-> network mode, but see only an option for GSM only, WCDMA only.
If you're with Bell in Canada, there is no option for 2g only as there is no 2g network. Don't worry about the 3g/H switch, this is a common occurrence on most phones on most carriers. My GF's HTC Magic on Rogers did this too.
Gsm only is the 2g mode you want

thanks! I see the option now.
GSM stands for 2G
HSPDA stands for 3G
when it changes between 2G/3G (G/H)[Automode] it's sort of Prefer 3G, fall back to 2G if 3G signal is weak.
you can easily change it off Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Network > Network Mode as you've said
actually my network doesnt support 2G (GSM). Like I said, it bounces between 3G and HSDPA (3.5G). Wonder what this does to battery life?
there is no problem, 3G is not as fast as HSPDA
in perfect reception you get 3.5G (HSPDA)
in not so good reception areas you get 3G
in very poor reception areas you are lucky to get 2G (EDGE)

wtf.. when i go to settings->wireless and network->mobile networks i see "data roaming" "access point names" and "network operators".
i have a bell vibrant unlocked and on rogers and id LOVE to force gsm only.. are you running the updated firmware or something?
What is the difference between the network modes?
2g/3g +2g
2g/3g only
2g/3g only/3g+2g
i'm guessing the first only uses 2g and the last only 3g but what does the second option select?
thanks.
well, the phone will use 3g where possible, and will drop down to 2g when there is no 3g coverage of your provider.

then what is the difference between that and the third option of 2g/3g only/3g+2g.
