Launch Skyfire instead of Opera when tapping the globe in Manila - HD2 General

Hi all,
quick question please: when i tap on the globe in my internet tab, i get web&walk opera launching (i have a t-mobile UK HD2). is there any way to change that so that i get skyfire instead? i've set skyfire to be my default browser but didnt work.
thanks

Go into Skyfire, then settings, then set as default browser, similar to desktop PC's really, then the globe will launch that.

yeah, it's unchecked as soon as you set Skyfire as your default browser.. i wonder whether this has got anything to do with that stupid web&walk software that comes with T-mobile phones...

Hmmm, maybe other Tmobile users can confirm, the globe in the web page works to whatever broswer I set with my o2 branded hd2.

that makes sense.. with my t-mobile phone, everytime i want to use the browser, i get this popup 'do you want to go online?' and then the web&walk logo comes on, followed by opera no matter which browser you've set as default..
has anyone found a solution with this?

Found ya something - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=606288&highlight=mobile+default+browser
Hope it works.

You're good..! it did work thanks a lot..
if anyone's got similar problems, just follow the link above, change your registry setting and you no longer get the web'n'walk browser launching, but rather whichever browser you've set as default..
right..! should go and do some work now...

You mean "should be" a lot of people, including me have had problems where it doens't show up anywhere.
I've had three of these so far, and none have it installed. It installs Cabs with "opera" in them on the hard reset, but nothing shows....
Does anyone know what this T-Mobile @ Home should be?
Can no-one provide a screen shot of what this "T-Mobile @ Home" thing should look like??? :-(

I dont think it should "look" like anything, I think it modifies behaviour of the device in an un-specified way. You dont actualy "see" a today item.
I had an Ameo, It had opera. I did a hard reset, Opera was gone!!!
I replaced the Ameo (for another fault) and that one has opera, a hard reset and opera is still there.
Very strange.
I was one of those who had missing Opera during one of the hard reset. However, I think it is not missing, but merely not installed properly. You recall that whenever a CAB run there is a prompt to confirm that we would authorise the installation of a software? I believe that I might have absent mindedly provided the wrong response without realising it, and the device merely obeyed my instruction to leave it out from the installation.
I can't see opera in my programs screen either.
However it opens when I press the web'n'walk button.

Opera is on all of them but it may be called Web & Walk instead, it is a branded version of Opera developed for T-Mobile

how to change standard browser

Hallo,
since i started the Internet Explorer, Opera isn't longer standard browser, I have tried to change the reg-key:
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\EFBROWSER]
"0"=Opera Browser
"1"=\\Windows\OperaL.exe\
"2"=dword:00000001
"3"=dword:00000000
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
But it doesn't work. Does anybody know how to change it.
i'm sure if you seach enough you will find the answer, it has been asked many times.
i'm sure a search of "change default browser" will find something...
-edit- did the seach for you. Thread here
i have googled for it but the only thing i found is to change the registry.
When i lounch the browser from TF3D, Opera starts. That's OK. But when i "klick" on a link in RSS Hub Pocket IE starts.
Sorry for my bad english.

How do i reinstate Opera as default browser after installing/uninstalling Skyfire

Can't find an answer to this using search so forgive me if i missed it.
Pretty much as the title states, i was intrigued with the prospect of skyfire so i gave it a go, doing so pushes internet explorer to the default browser (hateful program!!).
I just need to get opera as the default browser again.
Any help grateful.
in operas setting there is one which makes it set as default browser, (but i cant see it on mine??? ,might be cos i upgraded to the flash version on here????)
open opera, go to settings have a look around, i couldnt see it either....
although you can try this...
:extra:
go to opera and then go to this page opera:config
you will find alot of extra settings here to change things about
there must be a registry setting for which is default browser might be as simple as what open ".html" files
Use a registry edit
I have had to do this a couple of times now through playing with alternative broswers. I read elsewhere that if you type opera:config into the address bar in opera, you can bring up all the preferences. Apparently checking 'Browser First Time Launch' in the 'Install' section is supposed to reinstate Opera as the default browser, but it didn't work for me.
I have found the easiest way is simply to use a reg fix by using a registry editor (I have been using EveryWan which also allows you to remote control your Touch HD as well as many other useful tools: http://www.sparus-software.com/Device-Management/Products/EveryWAN-Remote-Support,43/THE-ULTIMATE-TOOL-FOR-HOTLINERS.html).
Edit the registry as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\: DEFBROWSER
"0"=Opera Browser
"1"="\Windows\OperaL.exe\"
After this everything should be hunkydory
Regards,
Guy
Will give this ago, maybe this should go wiki? if it's not already.
The possibiltys that skyfire/other new browsers may tempt to install but lose the default functionality of opera, which in my mind is superb on the HD.
Thanks Chaps
Hey. thanks for all the suggestions. I did change the registry values, according to the instructions above, I did tick the install option in Opera config, and still I get IE opening when I click on a link in RSS Feed. Anyone has another idea?
Thanks!

This is relevant to my interests. I really dislike IE opening my rss feeds as well.
I also have this problem.
It happened after installing and unistalling skyfire.
Every time I click in a link (for example in the email) it opens in the IE.

Since I wrote the post above I have discovered that using the internal Opera method is the best because not only does it reinstate Opera as the default for opening links from e-mails, but it also resets the default program for RSS reader which was driving me nuts.
I did mention this briefly previously, but simply load up Opera and then type opera:config in the address bar. This will bring up all the settings. Now find the 'Install' section and expand the section by tapping the word 'Install'. Now check the 'Browser First Time Launch' box and then tap 'Save'. It will come up with some nonsense about running a javascript command, but just select okay and then quit out the browser and re-start.
I found the above method reset Opera as my default for all apps, so hope it works.
Good luck,
G
Sure this works. Any way to reverse the setting ? i.e. not to make Opera the default browser anymore...

Gisbourne,
Could you help-out on how to set my Opera as default?. I tried your suggestion on Post # 3 & 11. But it did not did the trick. I tried also the following suggestion:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila2D\InternetWidget\
"OperaEXEFile"=<Path to Opera>
"WebBrowserType"=dword:00000001
I can't input the characters "dword:00000001" on WebBrowserType, coz I got only three (3) choices either Binary, Decimal or Hexadecimal. Tried to put the characters, but my home screen (M2D) keeps on reseting when I go to the widgets.
Maybe you still have something under your sleeve to help me out . Thanks in advance.
Hkeyclassesroot/http/shell/command, edit the file in command with the the address of the .exe of yhe browser you want to use. This is for RSS feeds.

Value data="\Windows\OperaL.exe"%1
I replaced the data to "\Windows\Opera9.exe"
Well it did not reset to home screen but when i clicked the IE browser opens.
Search for JZSmartMort, its a cab file. This will give you the option to select your default browser.
I will help you more with links and such, the problem is that im browsing on my HD.
Restore the reg data you edited in the http/command folder.

How to get the real ENGADGET on Opera 10 (solution)

Hi guys I was very frustrated every time I want to read Engadget on the new opera mobile 10 without using Turbo mode. I spend lot of time looking for a solution trying to spoof agent and others but no way to get the real version...instead everytime I get a text only version for wap devices.
Finally I found the solution:
In opera10 goto to the web page "OPERA:CONFIG"
goto NETWORK and scroll down for "HTTP Accept"
there put this text:
text/html, application/xml;q=0.9, application/xhtml+xml, image/png, image/jpeg, image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, */*;q=0.1, application/youtube-client, application/x-obml2d, multipart/mixed
PS:This solution can be a workarround to others sites with the same problem too.
I hope this will be usefull to someone
it's a pain in the ass typing it all, but it's worth it thanx for the tip. now if there would be a fix for the text flow/break
My biggest issue is the crap zoom (needs at least a zoombar if pinch to zoom isn't an option) and camera not working with Opera running in the background.
Also, for engadget (I'm on there all the time), you can just scroll down and hit view desktop/full version. Also, you can add something like ?m=false (it's not that exactly, and I can't check it at the moment) and it will change the default mobile version to the full version.
However if your tweak works for all sites, then hats of to you! And I need to get on that later tonight.
You dont need to type it!
connect your HD2 to activesync, and go to the folder where you installed opera 10, got to the folder profile and then edit the file "Opera.ini" (in my case it is \Storage Card\program files\Opera Mobile 10\profile\opera.ini)
There, under [Network] add the text like this:
[Network]
HTTP Accept=text/html, application/xml;q=0.9, application/xhtml+xml, image/png, image/jpeg, image/gif, image/x-bitmap, */*;q=0.1, application/youtube-client, multipart/mixed
Save the file to the HD2 and that is
(I first do this the hard way...typing all in the HD2 grrr)

Thanks Shagratt.
BTW, to everyone worried about entering all that text, most of it is already there as the default, all you have to do is add the last part listed below to the end and save.

Not exactly, I think the most important one is removing the wap part (engadget must use this to detect mobile devices), but in my opera mobile 10 there was only a empty space, so I have to write all.
