How do i flash the radio if i Have Sense UI? - Nexus One General

DO i have to do it via fastboot? I don't want to erase everything and everytime I do the radio update via RA it reverts me back to stock :/

if you just update ur radio, it'll not erase anything... if you have the image file (.img), it should be flashed via fastboot... if you have a update zip, it can be flash via RA recovery...

The one i flashed was the full update zip stock from Modaco. Am I getting it from the wrong place or am i installing the wrong one or what?
Its not that I'm a noob, its just the last time i did anything to the radio was when i first rooted my n1. I haven't looked back since than

Thats the entire OTA update, all you need is the radio img. Get it from cyanogen's page

First of all, why did I find this in the Development section? Development is for DEVELOPMENT. Moved to General. Next time I'll close it.
Secondly, make sure that you are still using the engineering spl (1.33.2010).
Alternatively try a different recovery such as clockwork or an older version of Amon_Ra.

If he flashed 1.33.0013 then he would would not be able to flash the recovery from bootloader. The OP needs 1.33.2010 to flash anything without root access.

[REF] [RADIO] Nexus 6 Modem Collection | LYZ48E Radio Added

Background
This is a list of radios for the Nexus 6 (shamu). With the new OTA release, some people may have better signals with the old radio or want to tinker with the new one so here is a list that will be updated to allow users to switch to their preferred radio/modem.
Radios are independent of Android version, use the radio that provides you the best signal. It varies from user to user, there is no best radio/modem Why? Different carriers, different locations, and more. There are so many factors that play into cellular signal so just because a particular radio is the best for someone doesn't mean its the best for you. We can obtain a consensus on which radio performs the "best" for the largest % of users though.
How to Flash?
1) Fastboot: Download the .img file below then flash it using Fastboot.
Code:
fastboot flash radio radio.img

No. Fastboot is only for the computer.
I'll have to do flashable zips later, if someone beats me to it I'll include it in OP and give credits.
Currently preparing for finals and this is all the time I have for now.
You'd need to write the radio to /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modem via updater-script.
I thought it was "fastboot flash radio radio.img" ? (that's what I used)

Rename the file you downloaded from OP to "radio.img" (ensure its not actually radio.img.img).
Or type fastboot flash radio the-whole-radio-name.img. I personally rename to radio as its easier for me to type.

Yeah, I did the whole location+name, but in the OP you have "fastboot flash modem <name-of-modem>.bin" I wasn't sure if I was missing something, as I've never seen a .bin referenced. Hopefully this doesn't come off as being an asshole, I was just genuinely curious.

Oh you're right, I copy pasted the modem collection OP i had from the OnePlus One which they use .bin. I changed the extension to .img.
Sorry about that! its fixed now. And you're not being a... "you know", no need for me to say it as XDA doesn't appreciate that language
But yeah for <name-of-modem> is just a placeholder for depending what the user selects as a radio.

Well I'm now soft bricked and don't know what to do. I used the "fastboot flash modem [modem name].img" command. I now realized from reading other threads I'm supposed to use "fastboot flash radio [radio name].img".
What do I do? The image fully flashed and now when I reboot it stick on the four colors swirling around splash screen just before boot up. I'm guessing there isn't a "modem" section for shamu? Just radio...
I tried going into TWRP and wiping cache. It says "E: Unable to mount '/firmware'".

I had the same problem with /firmware. I seem to just ignore it.
Go into fastboot and then just reflash the radio using fastboot flash radio radio.img and then reboot. If that doesn't work go back into TWRP and wipe Cache and Dalvik and then your phone should start up as it rebuilds the cache.
So far the flashable zips in the typical method I use are not sticking when it comes to the flashable zips.

Don't think you can use Flashify, that's for Zips, Recoveries and Boot Images ( Kernels )
You can use Fastboot, or if you're not comfortable with that you could use Wug's Toolkit and just download the latest modem to your PC and select Flash Modem under Advanced settings.... Select your downloaded modem file and within 1 minute the Toolkit will do it all for you.

You can't flash the radio using flashify.
The new base band ends with. 04R if it says that then you're on the newest radio.

How do you update Bootloader and Radio when flashing new ROMs?

Hey!
I've been flashing ROMs since the Nexus 5 and I actually just wondered how do you pals/gals flash the bootloader and radio whenever a update on the ROM gets available?
As far as I know, developers do not include the Radio and Bootloader when they update their ROMs and those need to be either flashed manually.
Once example is - as of the moment, Google just posted a new build "MMB29P" which has a new BL and Radio.
Anyone knows a tip on how to do this a smoother way?
smoother?
Just download it and flash it.
Download the factory image here
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Extract the tgz file once it's finished downloading. You will see the bootloader and radio images along with a zip that includes the rest of the stock files.
I assume since you know how to flash roms, you'll already know about fastboot. You just boot into the bootloader and use fastboot to flash the new bootloader and radio.
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-angler-angler-02.45.img
and
fastboot flash radio radio-angler-angler-02.50.img
are you SURE there is a new bl/radio in the update?
afaik, it's a security update

Yep, What I do before is flash to stock / relock Bootloader - then wait for OTA - then reflash the custom ROMs again. Yup .. not smooth at all but this is the reason why I started this thread

Thanks for this! I will give it a try once PureNexus or Chroma provides an updated ROM.
Can anyone confirm if they can be done on the device, using flashify or something similar.
I'm on Linux here at work, and i'd rather not go through the pain by installing adb and the tools I have at home - but I want to be on the latest bootloader. As I spend most of my time on my Linux machine at work, it would be easy enough if I could find a way to do it on linux with ease.
Just to clarify,
If you are on a Custom ROM/Cyanogenmod 13 and a Radio/Baseband/Vendor update comes out can you flash these updates without factory reset or flashing back to stock. That's without?
And is Radio=Baseband=Vendor all the same thing just different brands names naming scheme.

You can flash a radio anytime to see if different one improve your signal yes.
The vendor you flash must match what your running currently, can't mismatch vendors.radio and baseband are the same thing vendor is entirely a different thing

No the radio and bootloader have nothing to do with the vendor partition. And yes you can flash radios without it affecting anything but the radio. You'll find all radios in my index:

I agree with the previous poster, you're making it much harder than it needs to be. All you need to do is flash the factory images to update. While you're flashing back to stock you just flash the updated build instead, that's it. Plus even if you did for whatever reason want to take the OTA there's no need to lock the bootloader.

7.1.2 via flashfire but?

Was rooted on stock 7.0 and SuperSu, TWRP.
Flashed latest april factory image 7.1.2 using Flashfire which went Great. Rebooted to twrp recovery and flashed pixel mod, great.
Noticed I'm still on bootloader 3.62 and radio 3.72. ? So I guess flashfire doesn't update those.
I'm on Verizon.
Do I need to update to latest bl 3.67 and radio 3.81?
By what method? Fastboot, Flashfire, TWRP
Thanks much

Do I actually want/need to flash the latest BL & Radio?
Curious why flashfire skips over these and if it's possible to add these images separately in the flashfire sequence.
Thanks

Hello,
I keep my bootloader up to date. Because it's part of the system, maybe security flaws have been patched... If it was useless, they wouldn't release a new one.
The radio? Well, maybe it will improve your reception or maybe not. It could even be worse. Radio version doesn't matter. If you want, you can flash the new one and if you don't see an improvement, you can flash your current one back. It's up to you...
Check this: https://flashfire.chainfire.eu/settings/#flash_bootloaders

Oh, OK thanks for the link. Fastboot it is then.
There's actually someone on XDA who created a flashable zip that can be used to update the bootloader and radio through TWRP. Not being great at command lines on the computer I usually use that and have never had a problem.
OK thanks I found the post. Took a chance and downloaded the latest bootloader radio combo zip and flashed via twrp.

Well, I've never flashed one either. This is my first OnePlus device.
The link you posted is the official one for downloads and the size of the full ROM I understood is 1.5 - 2GB. So it seems you do have the right file.
You could flash the stock recovery img with TWRP - it can be obtained from the same link - and flash the OTA zip with that.
During the flashing process of the OTA you would've lost TWRP anyway, so it's not a big loss.
