Alarm Fix
Many of Windows Mobile users are suffering from different problems, related to clocks, alarms and reminders. This problem exists almost in all Windows Mobile systems (Windows Mobile 2003, WM5, WM6, etc). Why this happens and how to take care on it?
There root of this problem is something called "Notification Queue". The main propose of it is to run tasks and activate alarms and reminders at scheduled times, particularly when the device is in standby or low power mode. There are a lot of problems with this module – troubles with alarm and reminders, which not working, or, alternatively, playing not in time after device reboot.
There are some bugs, reported to Microsoft and one of topmost requests from the next version of Windows Mobile is to produce more reliable alarm clock.
For some reason, there is very little information about working with notifications queue in internet. There is absolutely no information about it in MSDN. And a lot of misinformation all over the network. I gathered up all I can from anywhere and now, I know what the cause for problems with alarms, alerts, notifications and reminders in Windows Mobile systems. I also learned how to fix it.
The root problem of notification queue is duplicate entries, produced by different applications, such as clock, ActiveSync, Alert, missed calls notifies and more. Windows mobile has no tools to treat this problem.
"AlarmFixWM" can be used to overcome this issue. It scans your Windows Mobile system for duplicate entries in notification queue and eliminate them. All you have to do, is do download it, put it into one of directories inside your mobile device (no installation), then run and hit Scan button. The program will do all the rest.

O, no... not again. Calendar not warning any more ( solved!)

I had this problem discussed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=30295
So I installed today the new I-mate rom without problems.
As software I use
-Listpro (Ewallet from them I did not install as it was suspect)
-Pbreeze with pocket weather
-SPB GPRS monitor
Now what did I do, not standard, and that may be the reason:
As I wanted to use my own sounds for the calendar...
1. I dragged two soundfiles to the windows folder itselve because I found there also the other sound and warning files.
2. I told Sound and notifications to let Reminder use one of those two files to use as its sound.
(Is that where it could have been started?.. a bug in the sounds manager?)
3. I programmed a calendar appointment to test the sound.
4 It worked, but after a soft reset I got the calendar warning back with sound and pop up. Only once. After a new soft reset it did not come back.
5.From now on the calendar gives no more warning, also no screen text.
I only have 4 dups in the notification Queue.
When I had this problem before the ROM upgrade I did about the same.

Edited: So a question from me is: Are there any people that changed the standard sound in a private one, without calendar problems?
I solved it!
I think, at least.
I deleted three calendar.EXE entries in my Notification queue, and it starts working again. That means my calendar alarms are being heard and shown.
So I am close in believing it was the soft resetting that caused the problems twice. It disturbs the notification queue anyway by adding dups.
On the other hand: There must be more people doing soft resets frequently, and I seem to be the only one having problems.

Reminders

Reminders (most, not all) have stopped working on my Advantage. They show correctly in the calendar and sync with the desktop where the reminders pop up but for most of them nothing happens on Adavantage.
The odd one still works as normal but for most of them although the agenda shows the appointment about to happen no pop up, sound or even notice of a reminder having been missed appears.
I seem to remember a slightly similar thing happening with WM2003 after I had changed the time zone, and had to delete and then reinstate each appointment to get the reminders up again. But in this case neither has the time zone changed nor does deleting and reinstalling (nor before you ask soft-resetting) the device makes any difference.
Any ideas anybody?
Resolution
I had some recurring reminders which were set to go off at 1 minute before and some at 0 minutes.
When I set all of these to at least 5 minutes before everything returned to normal.
Strange unless there is some time issue in the device or OS somewhere - anyway, just in case someone else gets this problem.
It may sound funny but change time zones, have it change the time zone. Then hold the power button until it asks are you sure you want to reboot. Let it reboot then change the time zone back. Sometimes that helps cuz it will rebuild the alarm database.
Your other option is Scarybear fix notifications and Check Notifications. You can view the alarms and remove the ones that are invalid. You need to be careful though. Delete the ones that say NULL.
I've benn through this for YEARS and that's the only way I've had 100% success.

I agree with everything hammermedia says bar one - I find Scarybear sometimes doesn't too well on WM5. Dinarsoft Memmaid does the trick
on the notification queue for me.
Snooze options
While we are on the subject the thing I HATE about WM5 compared to PPC2003 is the fewer snooze options.
Got quite excited over mention of memmaid to look at queue as I totally rely on these notifications but often need to set the snooze to x hours but having had a brief look I see that one can delete but not amend.
Don't want to try scarybear if there are reports of probs on WM5
On my old universal I spent ages trying to to get PocketMax Alarmtoday working to give me more flexibility. I will try again on Advantage now.
Any way of hacking the reminder snooze options? or Other programs people like?
still not snoozing
Just a brief update have got alarmtoday working fine which does have helpful options - regulates the sounds for how long and really like the 'mute all sound for a flexible period' - how many times does one forgot to turn the sound back on!
Alas it still uses the WM5 options for handling the reminder when it pops up so I can't tell it to remind me 8 hours

calendar reminder

dear friends, i have had this problem previously on other winmobile devices and now on the THD. simply & suddenly i stop getting reminders for my calendar appointments, even though they still do appear on my today screen( i use the windows mobile standard today screen). no change in my notification or sounds settings, and despite a softreset. on my old phone imate ultimate 6150, this problem used to disappear after syncing with outlook on my pc, and this time it worked too. but honestly it's beyond me why this happens. yes the problem has been solved, but until one realises what has happened u could miss out on an important appointment. thanks
any ideas?
memaid and sktools have options to rebuild the notifications queue.
Alternatively, search here on notifications - the problem sounds like this queue/list is corrupt.
I had similar problems and the memaid solved it fine.
Well I've just read inanother zforumsomewhere and it works.
Change the time on your today screen, to the visiting time. Accept all changes
Then set it back to home time, and accept all changes.
Viola! the reminder starts working fine again.
But, after a day or two, things are back to where they began. So you wil need a reminder to remind you to do this procedure once in a while

calendar reminder bug (?)

Not sure if this is my phone or how the HD2 is programmed: If a calendar event reminder is due while my phone is switched off, then I completely miss the reminder after I switch it back on. Same is true for alarms.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks.

This happens to me too.
I believe it goes as follows:
If the phone is completly switched off (not on standby),
the windows' event queue does not exist.
When the phone boots up, it re-builds the event queue from the time it is switched on.
Is it a bug ?
May be (maybe it's design flaw)
Is it an HTC bug or Microsofts ?
I Really do not know whom to blame
Should thay have saved the event queue on power off and reload it on bootup, instead of re-building?
probably.
On my WM2003, if I loaded the event queue from a backup,
and the event queue contained an overdue alarm/reminder
it would have just clogged the queue, and no remonders popped up,
Which is worse than skipping an alarm/remonder or two.
But - nevetheless, they should have fixed the problem, instead of dropping the alarms.
on a side note, does anybody know how to make the phone not remind you before 15 minutes and on the time?i just need to see the appointment is there on manila. ive loaded all my appointments from outlook - till june and on my outlook, ive turned the reminders for each individual one off. however, the phone still reminds me and its annoying. i dont really want to have to go through each one of them (theres 100) and turn it off. itll take me a day!
Som30ne,
thanks for your reply. At least I don't feel that there's something wrong with MY device, and that I need to send it back ---there is only something WRONG with my device.
Strangely enough, on my HTC Touch Diamond, these reminders (and alarms) seemed to work perfectly well and wouldn't miss a single event, so, in upgrading, either Windows or HTC have made a blunder.
Cheers!
munzab,
I know Outlook by default seems to remind you not only at the user set time before the event, but also when it starts to occur, but I don't think my HTC does that. And certainly not the 15 minutes before one.
Hi,
In my personal experience the ability to switch the phone on when an appointments et. is due is unavailable in Windows Mobile. I remember having this on Symbian S60 years ago but not on any Windows Mobile device.
For the second issue. In calendar menu, settings there is an option to change the deault reminder from anything from 1 week before to 5 minutes before as well as None. Have you tried setting it to None to see what happens? I haven't tried it but know its there. The standard alarm doesn't have a delay reminder option so its the time you set only I believe.
Hope this helps in some way.
Regards.

I have done this for htc, but i have the impression it will only do that for new appointments that are created on the pocket pc.
i can turn each one off by selecting one after the other and editing each. but not from outlook.

[Q] Help: How to stop messaging app from opening automatically in WM 6.5??

I have observed this on at least two different devices (Samsung Omnia 2, HP Glisten) running WinMo 6.5, so it doesn't seem to be a device specific issue.
If I have an email account set to check automatically at a certain interval, say every 10 minutes, each time that interval arrives, the messaging application opens itself and comes to foreground as the active application. This happens whether I am currently using the device to do something else (like surf the web etc) or whether the device is left in sleep/standby mode with the screen completely off. The next time I wake the device up, assuming that email check interval as elapsed, I will find the messaging app open as the currently active one.
It doesn't happen if messaging is already open and in the background, but if it's completely closed it will always open and bring itself to the foreground, before proceeding to check for email. None of my older WinMo 6.1 devices ever did this, and were capable of checking email silently without opening the messaging app. The today screen plugin would always update to indicate new messages, but the app didn't physically open each and every time.
Is there any known fix for this? Note that both devices demonstrating this behaviour are running WM 6.5, rather than 6.5.3 and both are using unmodified regular stock roms.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks...
All the rom-cooking, registry-tweaking, device-hacking wizards in the realm and not a one has any insight into this irritating bug? It did not exist under WinMo 6.1 and does not seem present in 6.5.3 either, but is definitely common across WM 6.5 devices.
Anyone, anyone... Bueller?
