SMS contacts - what the hell? - Touch2 General

Hey dudes
I've had my Touch2 for a few days now and I love it. One problem though that I can't figure out.
When I go to create a new SMS and start entering the initials of my contacts, it doesn't actually give me any of the contacts that show up on my Sim or on my Device. Instead, they're all people I deleted a few months ago.
Can anyone help me out? It's really bugging me.
Cheers,
Dragon
PS: This is my first touchscreen phone and I'm so scared I'll break it. Can you buy replacement screens? I've got a 3 year warranty from HTC but I'm terrified I'll drop it, crack the screen and that'll be it. I'm buying screen protectors today but I don't think a thin bit of plastic will be enough to ease my troubled mind

Can anybody help? Sorry to bump, but it's really annoying

Found out the problem by going into Sim card manager, just posting here to let anybody know how to fix it if they have the same problem.
I have an Australian SIM card - when I put my Sim in the Touch2 it added a space before each contact name so none would appear in contact search. I had to go through and manually delete every space before the contact name, but now it works.

How to disable SIM contact on Smart Dialing

Hi guys! This is my first post!! Just got an I-mate Jam, just wondering how does one disable SIM contacts on smart dialing. When I try to search a contact on Smart Dial, it shows both contacts I have in the phone and the contacts in my SIM card, therefore 2 contacts would show up. Anyways to fix this?
Please RTFM!

ooo get the wannabe mod
What if he got the phone without a manual or has lost it.
Its the guys first post!!!!! The reply was unacceptable.
If i had a manual myself i would have told him the answer.
Ha, I've got the same thing on my MDA Compact- hasn't really bothered me until I saw this topic
I will have to RTFM tonight i think
It makes a VERY BIG DIFFERENCE if at least explain that the unit was acquired without the manual or CD which contains the manual, or as you (pda) said the manual/CD got lost.
I've been in Tech Support for 15 years and believe me, I know when people ask for help without reading the manual.
@sh500: That's the right attitude! Right on!
i rtfm - 3.3 Smart dialing (page 22 in russian manual) but did not find the solution....
hmm, so zerimar, y dont u tell us how to do it? i believe u do kno how to do it, coz u've been in "Tech Support for 15 years" and must hav "rtfm" pretty many times n probably kno "tfm" by heart.. theres no harm tellin as "Forums are designed to help people" rite?
From Page 49 of Manual
Smart Dialiing searches the Phonebook entries in both the SIM card and Pocket Contacts, as well as numbers in Call History (Incoming, Outgoing, or Missed).

With what is said in the manual there is no way of filtering out entries from the SIM card. The only way is if there is a 3rd party software that would;
1. Replace Smart Dialing
2. Have similar feature like in Nokia phones to select which phonebook to use .
@Appu: I never read manuals from cover-to-cover for whatever gadgets I buy, but I browse through it to have an idea of the features, capabilities and limitations of the gadget. I keep the manual handy just in case I am not clear about something.
Forgot to mention. The only way would be to delete the entries in the SIM card (anyway a copy is is Pocket Contacts which is then syncronized to Outlook).
aah so thts how it is.. thanx, zerimar..
hope this info by zerimar was useful for btong and everybody else around..
Ah it's a shame there was not concrete answer....
What's not concrete? It's crystal clear that it's designed as a feature but for most of us has become a disadvantage. This shows that's it's a limitation of the OS/software. From the day I acquired my S100 and noticed the problem, I have already started searching for a solution (3rd party software, or registry hack).
This is similar to the BT issue. By default, the only way to switch on BT is to switch off Flight Mode first and this is solved by PocketMax's Phone Alarm.

Well I was making reference to the originial question and the simple answer to it is no, you can't select which phone book to browse; whether the manual was read or not prior to the question being asked.
In my opinion a 'designed feature' in this case would be one that gave users the option. The way it is currently is more of a 'design by default'.
Thanks, that's the answer I wanted... It's my first time posting here, doesn't mean it's my first time posting in a forum. I wouldn't have asked this question if it was clearly written on the menu or if someone asked the same question in the forum... 15 years of tech support eh? maybe it's about time to change job before getting fired...

Password Protecting Parts of my phone

hey everyone another question for you all,
i have looked around a little bit for a way to do this but i haven't turned up many results that had a great solution
Alot of my friends ask to see my phone and i usually let them, i just really hate it when people read my txt messages, is there any programs that let me just password protect the messaging portion of my phone so that way i don't have to really worry about people looking through them when i let them see the phone, my older flip phones had a way of doing it i just havent seen one on this phone.
the closes thing i found to a solution was to put this one .exe file into the messaging folder on the phone, i was wondering if there was a .cab file that did the same thing so its quicker and easier

My HTC HD2's problems. plz help

Hi just recently joined this site and well i just wanted to ask ppl some of the questions about my HTC HD2 and see if these are standard things witch most of ppl have or maybe just me. So here is the list of wonderful things that my hd2 does to me:
1. Ghost finger: randomly swaps an app, loads them, when using a quick select links it some times jumps to the other one.
2. Twitching: almost in every app where i use touch controls it would start well twitching. Mainly moving up and down, but now sideways to YAY!
3.Lock: there is no lock on my HD2 i had it for about 4h(since the purchase) then it gone, and no i didn't change any settings.
4.Mail:My mail app doesn't work, I can only view the Mail but i cannot open it. In order for me to open the mail i have to load up the actual mail from the start menu.
5. Keyboard: ohh this is one of the once that make me whanna throw this phone in to the wall sometimes. Basically when i type sometimes when i lift my finger away from the screen after pressing a letter it moves on to a near by letters and types them up. It ether around or to the side up to 4 letters. Therefore making txting practically impossible.(i do have big fingers but that doesn't change a thing, i had 5 ppl sitting down on it typing and all of them had the same problem)
6. final and my favorite is the fact now it randomly slows down. no idea why!(did have NET 3.5 installed and removed. didn't help)
So if u guys could help me get a solution to find a way to fix these that would be awesome cause this is the best phone i had and i just hate these small things which make it a living hell. (Also i am getting a replacement soon so i was just hoping that i wont have the same issues with my new HTC HD2 so thx for helping.)
Hello and welcome to the forum,
First off please alter your thread title to something more amenable else there's a whole host of people who won't bother to help you!.
To solve your problems start of by reading this thread ...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638 then look at the thread below it (The Q& A one).
Implement the solutions in those threads. Use this link ...http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all to search this site for things you might need, e.g BSB Tweaks.
Good luck and keep at it.
WB
Basically there are no fixes for the major problems.
Welcome to my nightmare.

[Q] Me and my shiny new DVP

First let me say, I LOVE THIS PHONE! After reading through about a million threads, I think I got most of the basics down, lol-- too bad this baby probably won't get whatever the next upgrade is, due to age.
I said before, that I would probably have a million questions, but right now I can only come up with one:
Current OS version: 7.10.7720.68
If someone sends me a pic in a message, how do I save it to the phone? Ex: friends have sent me pics to use for their caller ID and when I hold my finger on the pic to get options for it, I get these options: delete, forward, copy.
I thought maybe "copy", but I can't find anywhere it will then let me "paste" it, nor can I figure out how to access the sd card (factory 8gb)-- or is this something I accomplish through zune? (totally new to that as well), the last windows phone I had was an HTC Touch Pro II (Verizon); I think the OS was like 6.8 or something...
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
:fingers-crossed:
Is there no one that can tell me how to save an image from an mms message to my DVP?
I found it
on windows phone dot com... (goofy spam thing won't let me post the link cause I'm a new member)
