Haing just moved over from the iphone, with the stock HD2 i have on T-mobile i am not impressed with the internet browsing, i was expecting an experience like the iphone with pinch zoom etc and a browser just like you would have it on the PC.
I take it your using Opera and not IE??
Opera for me is very much like a full pc browser, pinch 2 zoom works fine.
No, im still on stock rom so its IE
Opera is stock

I thought all HD2 stock roms included opera. The 1.43 rom from o2 certainly had it and the stock 1.66 rom from htc has it too.
im using tmo us it definetly has opera. the internet tab uses opera why are you using IE
Pinch to zoom doesn'twork for me?? I'm runnin the latest energy rom if it makes a difference and the only way to zoom is tapping the screen and it automatically zooms to a set %
Its the version of Opera Energy rom uses most likely, a 10+ version?
Downgrade to 9.7 if you want pinch to zoom.
tmobile uk rom - they have renamed opera - webnwalk. use that or search for a version of opera in the opera thread.

I moved from ITouch , Bought the Leo for mainly for Wifi internet browsing ,Felt same like you at first but now itouch looks really tiny (screen) and old to me...
Cookies Home Tap also another app must have ...
I hope That Helps...
Ill give that a whirl when i de brick it....yes i have web and walk on it...i also have ie and this is stock rom on tmo uk
Even though I love my HD2, the browser experience on iPhone is still much better. In my opinion Opera is still too laggy when scrolling.
i use different browsers for different things... Opera for main browsing, but I find the image quality just shocking... so i use IE if i want to search for images because I find them slightly better...is this o2 limiting my bandwidth, reducing image quality? And Skyfire for flash, even though youtube takes a decade to load videos at crap quality compared to the iphone...

totally disagree... with the right tweaks (and there are plenty of them) scrolling with opera is smooth and fast.

But remember that you're only seeing a tiny portion of the page with the iPhone compared to the HD2. I'd definitely recommend getting Opera 10 as that is almost as fast as Safari mobile, but you'd have to get used to no pinch to zoom.

Pinch to zoom is overrated IMO. I personally find myself double tapping to zoom more frequently on the iphone. Its more of a one handed gesture.
Please Check
Opera Mini 5 before making comments
I do agree opera 10 not feels like you know....
But mini 5 is different story...
I also use Tap zoom it makes perfect fit to full screen when LArge option selected @ opera settings...
Good Luck

Poke through the settings and disable Opera Turbo. That's what I'm guessing anyways.
So what are the best roms for browsing, pinch and zoom and less lag..as i feel i have to agree with others here that the web browsing is no where near as good as the iphone, im not bleating on about the iphone was so good i wish i hadnt changed as you have to embrace these things...i was fed up with the restrictiveness of the iphone...but i want to get this unit up to speed

hey guys, skyfire just released V1.0 of their browser. There are a couple of upgrades made. I will test and get back. If you wanna download go to get.skyfire.com
prking.
ok tested it, rendering is a little better, zooming is way better, now two levels of zooming on touch screens, and zoom in and out with #3 and #1. now you can click without having to zoom in, and videos look a little better. so far so good!!! itd worth it!!
Im actually dissapointed. not much of an upgrade from the beta. still pixellated but as a flash enabled browser magnificent.
for some reason im actually not getting audio with my videos
At this level of rendering it's just disgusting IMO.
Pitty since flash is OK there....
As they won't quadriple their server load to go from QWVGA to WVGA, they will be used only is very extreme cases
The Skyfire beta made my X1 slow, not even going to try 1.0
Besides, I didn't find it too intuitive either. Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't find the tabs-function. They didn't use the stylus as good either. I'm just going to stick to Opera and Iris.
the funny thing is, that I've seen a video promoting skyfire 1.0 and the guy who was talking about it was using xperia. such a nonsense. skyfire looks like crap at the moment on wvga.
im pretty pleased with the beta. once the page renders, it looks good on my x1a. at least it can play most formats of video content. skyfire still has a place on my x1a, as so is opera mini, opera mobile and pie.
i use each one for about different reasons
i like it, i recommend the upgrade thanks for the announcement
So what does XDA-Sprint-Hero think about the default Android browser?
Good performance? Accurate rendering? Good scrolling and multitouch?
Sucks. Opera ftw
Meh, garbage. For general browsing go with Opera like DirtyShroomz said

What ever happened to the default browser with the bubbly loading bar? I like that one.
Multi touch on the default browser is laggy, you can pinch and it either goes to far or not enough and its slow.
I like opera and wish we could set it as a default. Given I haven't loaded it in a while, maybe we can now.

You can set it as the default with Opera Bridge from the market, i believe it's only a week or so old.
It's good. I hate Opera.
opera mini all the way, pure speed is all i need, to hell with flash.
Are there any other browsers besides stock that can use flash?

I love tabbed browsing in Dolphin and rendering is excellent. It does get a little chunky with pinch to zoom but we are using a ****ty 2+ year old processor in these phones.
I cant stand using the default browser. I use dolphin, its just really user friendly. Opera didnt work to well for me. It was the only browser i would ever use on every phone till android.
+1 Dophin. Opera seemed laggy for me and pinch to zoom wasn't working at all. I'm running hero 2.0d.
P.S. First post ever.
i use xscope and opera most also have dolphin and stock browser on my phone also i like variety!
Anyone try the firefox alpha? Curious about speed and flash support with that. If I ever take time off from trying to fine tune my theme I'll try myself.
Sent from my HERO200 using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Was using stock browser but went back to Opera. Such a big difference.
When I had 1.5 I went with dolphin. i did not like the UI of opera. However, since flashing 2.1 I have stuck with the default browser. I keep thinking about installing dolphin again, but now that I have Wireless tether, I just whip out my laptop as it is much quicker than my phone.
I love the speed of opera, but with so many sites using flash for navigation or Ajax (neither of which opera supports) it just doesnt do it for me. BASIC sites its great, but if I want TRUE PC browsing I'm fine with the stock browser. Yeah its a bit slow, but its a PHONE... I remind myself of that and Im patient enough to wait.
I have found a browser faster and more functional than Opera Mini so I thought I would share it.
Boat Browser Mini.
It is seriously freaking awesome.
Anyone else tried it and think it is currently the best mobile browser ever?

Opera mobile is extremely fast and most importantly, smooth.
Boat Browse matches and exceeds speed and smoothness.
Opera mobile mini can't do flash. Boat browser does. And does it very fast and smooth.
Opera full is sluggish and slower.
Boats ui is simplistic, speedy and amazingly easy to use.
I have yet to see a browser faster or smoother.
Forgot to mention that browsing with the dpad seems to work extremely well too in boats. I know other browsers can do this. But it just all seems to work better in boats.
Give it a try.
I used to use dolphin over wifi and opera mini mobile over 3g. But boats is faster and smoother than eithet of these whichever way you are connected.
i will try it an let you know
That browser is a wanna be iphone browser
Anyway its not bad
I think skyfire is pure android and is the best although it doesnt support flash

I tried it after seeing this thread and sorry but didn't like it, looks plan and basic, performs no better than the standard built in browser and dolphin hd.
I really like Dolphin HD, some cool features on that one
Mostly I use the native android browser wich works pretty good. Sometimes it wont download stuff and then I use Miren browser wich is the browser used in MIUI custom roms. I really liked the look of MIUI when I had that flashed on my htc desire hd and yes I know it is alot like IOS UI, still liked it alot, very smooth and nice themes.
Regards Dousan...
Since the first time i used it I had also the feeling that it was a very smooth and fast browser, and I have used them all. I used to use Xscope but I don't like its interface and it doesn't seem to be that fast anymore. Would like to see some comparing tests between xscooe, opera mini, skyfire and boat.
can't find this in the market. anyone has a link?

I've gone back to opera mini for 3g connection. The loading speed is easily the fastest out of all browsers. I use opera main for wifi.
Would use boats for wifi because it is smooth as hell, but opera link synchs all bookmarks etc.
If opera mini had flash support, I would use it for everything. Shame it can't do flash.
Boat browser has been pulled from the Market due to a violation of some sort. Does anyone know why?
The fact that it has been pulled from the Market makes me wanna try it even though I am happy with the native browser (except the copy-paste thing which is very difficult to use)
The UI is a complete ripoff of Mobile Safari in iOS, that's probably why it was pulled.
I've just tried it and I think its awesome. Thanks for the post...
I personally prefer the miui browser
find it on the market

There are a few ways.....try 4shared.com
I emailed the developer about why it was pulled from the market; their response was that they had compared their browser with the competition in their description, which violated Google policy.
In the meantime, you can download the current version of the app from their (extremely minimal) web site, boatgo.net.
I know the stock is not as smooth as IOS but what about hardware accelerated browsers like dolphin and opera? Is it silky smooth like the ipad?
Mine stock seems pretty damned smooth. It renders text quickly and once everything is up it scrolls with no hesitation. Of course I have plug-ins set to "on demand" so normally its like the ipad, no flash.
Even with activated flash it's smooth.
As an owner of both an iPad (1st gen) and a TF (Stock and Dolphin) my experiences are:
Websites optimised for tablet/mobile - No difference worth noting
Full desktop websites with lots of pictures - TF faster to render, Ipad a little smoother to scroll
Websites with flash and lots of dynamic content - TF wins hands down.
At the end of the day both of these devices look awful next to Chrome on win64 but they are starting to feel like decent browsers.
Completely subjective: All in all the iPad always "feels" a little smoother to me at everything. Web, just using the OS and everything. But it's a funny comparison - It's quite clearly not as good at any of the individual tasks and slower in general but somehow feels more graceful at the same time. I geuss that's the whole thing with apple though. Personally - I prefer the functionality of the TF.
With the latest update of opera I don't see how it can be smoother
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
If you turn off the open GL rendering the browser is extremely fast. The rendering isn't even needed.
With the new Opera Mobile 11, I could finally go back to the 2010 mode instead of the classic mode on xda.....

Oh, that reminds me, that I forgot to mention, that my stock browser is set to desktop instead of mobile ... the later makes no sense on a WiFi-only tablet in my opinion ... except when tethered to a cell phone maybe.
Also worth mentioning is, that the stock browser doesn't render some bad designed sites correctly ... e.g. golem.de
As a good alternative for such cases I use the tablet version of Maxthon, which is realy great, but also has two downsides ... it doesn't have a fast scroll button and it has problems with popup content like the player of accujazz.com radio. The stock browser does a better job here though not perfect.
Maybe a third browser is needed
I didn't try Opera so far because it's said, that flash implementation is still Beta state.
Personally - I prefer the functionality of the TF.

As all others here too
As long as you aren't a professional photographer, who needs the more accurate colours & higher colour depth (real 24 bit) and RAW image conversion iPad is the worse choice.
Hackers might be the second group of people who might prefer the iPad ... I noticed, that WiFi hacking tools e.g. are available there, but not on android ... astonishing fact, isn't it?
I find HC browsers faster than the iPad one (I only tested iPad 1) on most sites. On some with a lot of flash they can be slow. Smoother? Didn't notice, didn't care.
eli.kennedy describe the differences quite accurately to what I experienced.

Mine appears smoother with it on.
The iPad2's browser is much faster and smoother than the iPad 1's. It renders about 4 times faster.
I find the ipad2 browser much smoother than anything on my transformer. If browsing is the reason to have a tablet, AND you do not care about flash, than the iPad2 is a great choice.

Really, I can't understand why anyone smart enough to hangout on XDA would be recommending a locked-down, locked-in turd like the iPad2 (which is basically the default choice for people either too stupid, or too lazy to explore alternatives).
Sure there may currently be a lag problem with the Transformers browser when docked with the keyboard, but there are plenty of workarounds, like using the vastly superior Opera 11 browser, and it's doesn't affect page rendering speed, which blows the iPad2 out of the water.

I didn't know this is a known problem. I just got my Eee and dock and have been trying to fix this lag on a browser issue, but no go.
I tried changing the browser (Dolphin HD), change the Keyboard (Uses Asus and Android).
What is the workaround?
Heavily embedded java severely slows down the browser which is not an issue on other HC devices, or in fact, on the TF with Opera 11 so it should, and will get fixed.
Other than that, the browser is really zippy. As zippy as the Ipad 2. When your on par with speed, plus chrome bookmark syncing, tabbed browsing and flash, its no contest whose the winner.

I have tried accessing website with little Javascript embedded and still see the lag in both stock browser and Dolphin HD. So are you saying, currently, ONLY Opera 11 does NOT exhibit this problem?
Opera 11.1 seems to be the best, smoothest, most fluid browser yet. I prefer it over the stock, firefox, dolphin, etc. It just is so damn near-perfect.
What we'd like I'm sure is a full desktop port of Firefox and Chrome so we all have access to those delicious addons and extensions.

For me at least.
This page here:
http://proximityone.com/demographics2020.htm
was lagging for me in the stock browser, and works perfectly in Opera. I also can type in XDA easily while in Opera but in stock I cannot. Goggle instant works well in Opera but in stock it does not. Google apps such as reader, gmail, etc.. within the browser works well in Opera while the stock does not. This is the pattern I am making an assumption on.
All of which are non-issues in the stock browser for the Xoom. So, something has to be up with the stock browser.

I'm really enjoying using the stock browser on my One, it's a real plessure to use. As I do a lot of web browsing on my device this is very important to me. Plus the gorgeous display makes happy that I went and got myself the best phone on the planet.
ye its amazing cant wait to get my own one!
faster than chrome and/or dolphin?
I know on phones the stock browser is usually hardware rendered but these days chrome/dolphin are lightning quick
Can't remember if it came with Chrome or not. If it did then I must have removed it as a matter course.

It comes with Chrome pre-installed. Stock is slightly faster and supports Flash, but I prefer the Chrome integration across devices.
It looks great for sure. Does it still have text reflow?
Stock has yes.
I never thought i would switch from Chrome but the stock browser is extremely smoother and faster for a fairly intensive project i'm working on
The text reflow is perfect on the stock browser, that's why I'm using it.
I've also noticed it supports 16 tabs/windows at the same time!
I was getting pretty fed-up with the 5 tab limit on my Sensation ...
I must admit it's better than the S3 stock browser. I migrated to Chrome and prefer this day to day.
Is there a way to quick change tabs? It's one of the reasons I like chrome (swipe to change tabs)
But I am loving Chrome :victory:
I'm an avid chrome user but since getting this phone I've actually has no reason to actually use chrome over the default browser. It performs exceptionally well. Best stock browser I've used to date.

I dont know if you have to zoom out evertime when you load a page.
But as i tested the one in an o2 store, there was NOT A SINGLE LAGG in pinch to zoom or scrolling. It was the best browser i´ve ever experienced on any phone (tested the s3 and ip5 in the same store for example).
