Connecting a USB Memory Stick - HD2 General

I have tried connecting a memory card (8Gb) via a micro USB adapter but cannot see the contents of the memory stick on my HD2 to upload/download files.
Also, have the same problem when connecing up a USB TV stick adapter to watch digital TV on the HD2.
Please advise someone if you have the knowledge to share.
Many thanks.

HD2 doesn't have a USB host function by default. That means you can't do any of those that you are trying. There is a thread named Leo USB Host, you might be interested in that. There might be a beta host driver released there some day, you would still need to provide power though.

USB Host Problem

Hello,
I use Jungo's WinDriver USB to allow my software to communicate with various digital cameras. It works on every USB host equipped Pocket PC except the X7500, any ideas as to what HTC has done differently with this model? I`ve tested under both the standard WM5 ROM and the 2.19 WM6 ROM with the same results. The driver detects the first attach and detach, but not the subsequent ones. Any ideas would be much appreciated before I FedEx my poor X7500 half way around to world to Jungo..
do you have the 4in1 cable? That has a host mode usb port on it!
No need for funny software. The port on the side (miniusb) is not host, but the one on the 4in1 cable is I beleive.
Kick me anyone if im talking out my bumcrack.
I have the 4 in one cable WinDriver is an SDK that allows user mode software to talk to USB devices without writing full device drivers. In my case, it allows me to develop drivers for Canon and Nikon cameras that Windows CE does not otherwise support.
Please excuse my ignorance here, but does this mean i could plug a external hard drive in and read/write to it?
Thanks in advance

Yes, I have plugged in USB thumb drives and they are recognized. Power drain is the issue with external USB drives. If you have one with external power input, it should work. I may be testing this shortly. I will repost once I have some deffinitive results.

Not all. Some will work, some will experience compatibility issues, and some will have problems due to power consumption. The best way to find out is test it with the host cable attached and see. If the device doesn't initially work try a few things first....try plugging it in to a power source if it's capable of that, try soft reset while device is plugged in, etc. After trying a few different things, let us know the results and what model you have. Maybe post it to the peripheral compatibility thread. Thanks!
I have bought HTC 4 in 1 CABLE and another 4 in 1 usb from poundland and both work perfectly when you connect external pen drives and mouse.

Bluetooth disk?

Apologies if this has already been covered, but I wondered if there was a solution available for getting a portable disk accessible over bluetooth (PAN I guess) to my T-Mobile Compact 3. I am aware of ways to do this with Wifi but the device only has bluetooth so I am stuffed for that option
Any ideas very much appreciated!
well the NAS have to support bluetooth i would say
unless you sync with a pc and as such have access to it's network
but that would not really be using PAN
By disk, you mean portable storage, correct?
If the portable storage allows a slot for USB adaptors (which are quite cheap) or Bluetooth enabled (like some modern laptops and PC’s are) then it may just work.
When it comes to enabling Bluetooth with an adaptor, you may have to install drivers from a CD that comes with the adaptor.
I have a Bluetooth keyboard for my Kaiser. For it to work, I had to install a CD on my laptop prior to connecting my device to the Bluetooth keyboard.
You may have to do similar, by initially connecting your pc/laptop by Bluetooth to your portable disk and installing any necessary software, and then using the Bluetooth adaptor to connect your pocket pc to the portable disk after your Bluetooth and discoverability is switched on. When connecting my keyboard to my Kaiser via bluetooth, I simply switch on my keyboard and search for any bluetooth devices and connect- but remember, the bluetooth keyboard is bluetooth enabled already, so no bluetooth adaptor is required. Once the CD had been installed on my laptop, the laptop is no longer required to connect my keyboard to my Kaiser. You shouldn't need to either
Correct, yes - I am talking about portable storage. Possibly employing a 2.5" drive within a USB enclosure.
My main reason for wanting to do this is to put my entire music collection in the car and play tracks from the collection using the PDA. Because I just want to use this source for music, the limited bandwidth that bt offers will not pose an issue. I don't have any specific technologies in mind to do this, but being based in the car, there will be no laptop involved.
I am pretty sure there are no bluetooth access points on the market that can do the job. Some do appear to have USB ports although being a they are aimed at wireless printing, I'd doubt with there is USB storage class support.
I am just seeing what opinion is out there really because I have come to the conclusion that I am trying to achieve the impossible.
Browsing quickly online, I came across some portable storage devices that had USB 2.0 slots. Surely with a portable storage device like this, you can connect a bluetooth adapter to, therefore bluetooth enabling it.

And here are some USB adaptor to plug in:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Class-Bluetooth-Adapter-Version/dp/B000CI2QLQ/ref=pd_sbs_ce_title_1
And here are some specific 2.5" portable storage devices with USB. It specifically says "Complete with USB 2.0 cable, quick connect guide and utilities CD": Here is the link:

Even though no bluetooth compliance is mentioned, it does specifically mention a USB 2.o cable, which may possibly be connected to your Pocket PC device slot. For example, I can connect my Kaiser to my Laptop easily with a USB cable. You just need to make sure you get the right cable that can fit into both your device and your portable storage. Here in the UK, stores like Maplin to cater for all types of devices

Thanks for the input, although those kind of solutions won't work as it's not simply a matter of plugging a bluetooth dongle into a usb drive caddy.
Okay. I suppose it is you with the portable device so you're more likely to know what ought to work.
Have you possibly considered just transferring you're large music collection onto an 8GB memory card, or possibly waiting for the 32GB memory card which is due in April? I have the 8GB and I have placed stacks of music, videos, and a movie onto it along with word documents, yet I still have over 5GB of storage space left.

Good point, I have considered this - my entire music collection is less than 20gb so it may be viable.
A lot of bluetooth APs though have USB ports for attaching printers. Does anyone know if any of these support USB storage devices? (Bit of a long-shot!)

Looking for mini usb to standard usb adapter

Looking to find an adapter that will allow me to browse a jump/usb flash drive on my Kaiser. Have seen several 3 in 1's online, but none seemed to have a standard usb port and have also seen adapters that go from standard usb to mini but not the otherway.
Please let me know if what I am looking for just won't work (ie the Kaiser can't use an attached jump drive).
Thanks,
Zack
There is no way you can browse a flash drive with your kaiser (maybe using a redfly device) but the kaiser is not able to work as a usb host device.
I was afraid of that, but wasn't sure since it can use SD cards. Guess I need to do some reading to learn the difference between a USB drive and an SD card.
Thanks again for the informative reply!
Cheers.

[Q] Tab 10.1 with USB hub via USB adapter?

Hey,
Does anyone here have the USB adapter for their Samsung Tab 10.1? Can you connect a USB hub to it (maybe a powered USB hub)?
I take lots of full resolution photos, and would like to use the Tab to transfer data from SD card to portable USB hard drive.
What I want to avoid is having to first copy the SD card contents to the Tablet, then connect the tablet to the portable HD to unload the photos. That seems like unnecessary wear/tear on the flash memory.
If the USB host on the Tab 10.1 can handle a hub, then I can connect both the SD card and portable HD at the same time...hopefully the Tab would make use of it's RAM (the 1GB spec) to transfer chunks of data at a time, without resorting to using the internal Flash memory.
Am I right about that? The Android OS doesn't use the flash memory as a page file for working memory the way desktop computers do with drives?
bump - hoping someone can answer. Thanks.
There is a thread in development about a homemade usb adapter, and it works successfully with a hub. The samsung adapter isn't available yet, but should work the same

pokey9000 figured out how to force the unit in host mode. All you need to do is put 20ohms of resistance (easiest way with two 10Ohm resisters in series) between pins 13 and 15.
He also tested using a powered hub and was able to connect to multiple items at once. A regular hub might work for a few thing that are low powered but if you plan to have two hard drives, it better be powered.
has anyone found a usb to sd card adapter for multiple sd cards?
Did you ever figure this out? I want to do the same thing.

Usb C hub

I am wondering whether anyone has connected a USB 3.0 hub to the Axon 7.
The reason I ask is that I am going on a trip soon and want to back up my camera SD card each day to a USB stick. I don't want to take a laptop. What I'd like to do is connect a USB card reader / hub to the phone to copy files from the SD card to the USB stick at USB 3 speeds. Devices like the Ravpower wd03 only do usb 2, which will take ages per file.
Will this work? Will I need a USB 3 otg?

Update - USB Hub Works - but.....
OK, so I took the plunge and bought an Aukey USB C to USB 3 adaptor and a USB hub - one of these. I did it that was as I don't have other USB C devices.
The USB hub works fine with USB memory sticks. Each time i insert it registers a new USB OTG drive and I can happily copy to and from it (and more than one
But every time I insert an SD card into the SD reader, the Axon 7 gives me an error "Unsupported USB Drive: This device doesn't support thus USB drive. Touch to set up in a supported format". When I try to format the card, it fails.
Any ideas?
Update 2
I should add that:
1. The same problem occurs even if I use the MicroSD card I use in the phone - so it is not a formatting issue.
2. I also have a Note 5. If I connect the USB hub to that via a USB OTG, the Note 5 can happily read the SD Card.
3. The SD slot USB Hub works fine when when plugged into a PC.
Do I need an additional USB OTG? Will that conflict with the phone?
Update 3!!!
This is getting ridiculous but I want it to work.
So I tried plugging a SD Card reader into the USB hub. Lo and behold it works!!!! I wonder whether the issue is just that the SD card reader in the hub is missing something which allows the Axon to read the SD card.
That was only USB 2 - I am going to invest in a USB 3 SD card reader (my camera produces large files!) So I am going to invest in a small USB card reader and will report back.
Update 4
So the card reader has arrived as has my USB 3 stick. Now I can copy all the files from the SD Card to the USB Stick.
The only issue is that Dropbox scans the cards and starts trying to upload them as Camera uploads so I've had to kill the process.
The other issue is that my file manager (File Manager HD) doesn;t allow copying and I have to use the System file Manager, which is awful. Am going to work on that process over the weekend. Any suggestions gratefully received on that front!!!
Rubbish. Rubbish. Rubbish
The connection just isn't stable enough. The phone keeps saying that the card(s) keeping g being disconnected / removed. There is nothing wrong with the hub or either the USB stick or the sync card / card reader.
Last chance - I will add a power supply to the USB hub. If that doesn't work I'm afraid my views will be confirmed - this is a great phone with a great DAC but other than that it is just a bit rubbish and cheap for a reason, with a manufacturer which doesn't want to develop for it. I'm the EU least.
