Is it on Orange yeah?... I *think* that is what I got on my Orange Hero and I *did* have to downgrade.
Sorry I cant give definite confirmation.

one way to find out is to try the flash rec method, it will either work or it won't.
if it doesn't work you will need to downgrade.

AFAIK, you need version 2.73.405.5 to root. They fixed our exploit after this version.

Is the goldcard downgrade method official? In other words, is it reasonable to assume that's one method that won't be closed off in future? Or is it like all the other exploits, in that Android are likely to eliminate it at some point?

If I understand you correctly, you want to root and unlock your device is it?
First, take out your battery, tell us which exact model you have by reading off the sticker underneath the battery.

Im a n00b...try to research on how to root my SNS
I have a i9020T Nexus S running 2.3.4, and I'm also considering rooting for the first time. If I root, will that in any way effect my ability to receive future updates (e.g. I won't get OTAs from google, etc)? Note that I'm not planning on installing a custom ROM, I'm just planning on rooting my stock build.

Rooting doesn't effect OTA updates. Rooting is just a matter of flashing su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip. You have to flash it with ClockworkMod recovery, which most likely will require you to first unlock the bootloader. Follow the stickied rooting guide for your phone, the procedure is still the same. You can relock it afterwards if you want to keep the bootloader locked.
unlock bootloader = wiped out all my data.
i kinda wish I can create an image but then all the app allow me to do that requires root..lol
there already an open topic for this

[Q] No way to root note 3 on 4.4.4??

Hi everyone
it's my first post in this forum
I was wondering why i can't find anyway to root my sm-n900v on kk 4.4.4 or downgrade to 4.4.2?
does it realy difficult to come up with new method?
I have been searching for 4 months
I give up
Locked bootloader so no downgrade. Yes, each version update gets better and better with fewer holes to exploit. Lastly I would guess that many of the best now work for google etc.

Thanks for your reply
so that's mean we will wait for long time to get our devices root
There is method to unlocked bootloader?
There is currently only one dev that I know of trying to obtain root on the Version Note 3 for both 4.4.4 and 5.0. He seems confident he can do it with a certain known exploit. Give him a few weeks to work it out and we will likely have root.
There is no way to unlock the bootloader.

Axon Root without Unlock? And OTA?

Hey,
I have two questions about the Axon7 and rooting in general.
First is, if there is a possibility to root the Axon7 without an unlocked bootloader. Just need the root for some Apps (e.g. adaway).
The second is: if there is a possibility to root the Axon, will OTA Updates work or how do I get updates?
Thanks for your help.

Nobody Knows and Nobody Knows, in that order. Really, there's a gazillion threads about this already.
I look for others threads and did not find one about this topic. They all discuss about bootloader. As far as I understood, bootloader is needed for CustomRom? I just need simple root.
And i also did not find a thread about root and OTA. If you can post me links to these topics please? If I can find my answers anywhere else, this can be closed. Thank youf

Well, you were able root without unlocked bootloader if there's a software exploit back in the day but those are very rare these day.
Lg GA was able to be rooted without an unlocked bootloader. Was even able to get a few roms loaded using an exploit.

Exploits that give you full, permanent root are becoming harder to achieve in recent Android versions.
I know that for the zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) there was untethered twrp, this was then used to flash SuperSU to the device granting root access BUT that was when it was released with Android 5.0 Lollipop...
Hopefully this can carried over to Marshmallow for the Zenfone 3, it might give us some hope too...
Depends how many Devs actually get this device....

Darn companies not wanting us to screw around with our devices! Lol I can see why they don't want us to in a way. I just want more customized options.

Unlock bootloader and ZTE Updates

Hi,
I am waiting for my axon 7.
In the meantime, I would like to understand if I can unlock the bootloader, get the root, but have also the update released by ZTE.
If I have the ensure that I can update my phone, also with an unlocked bootloader, I perform the procedure the first day that the phone arrived at my location.
You know if there is a safe way?
Regards and thanks,
youngz

Really funny, we both posted almost the exact same question at the exact same time.:victory:
Get OTA Updates with unlocked bootloader is possible, but with root it isn't.

Is it because the update "delete" the root access? Or something else?
If it is the delete of the root access, I think that i can re-root the phone after the update (I have an unlocked bootloader with TWMP installed, so I can re-install Supersu or similar). Is it correct?
Yes you can. I did with the help of @DrakenFX information he posted.

Not 100% accurate. You Can still get OTAs on rooted devices, you just need to rollback Root for the update

It's because root and apps that use root make changes to partitions (such as boot and system), and when the update checks those partitions, it sees that something has changed and will not apply.

What I did was download the b20_boot image, unlocked the bootloader and such. However @DrakenFX has newer ways of doing it.
You can find it HERE
This looks a lot less intrusive than what I had to go through.
I commit a mistake, i forget that my version is the european version.
Now I have installed the b02 version. Can I unlock the bootloader? If I can not, you suggest to update the smatphone?

At the moment, there is no official bootloader unlock method for the A2017G. However, one is coming. Report to @rikin93 post here about that.
There is the unofficial way posted by @DrakenFX and showed to you by @swehes that's reported to work with the European version but since an official way is coming in the near future i would wait, it's not like unlocking now would provide anything at the moment.
About updating, it seems like a safe option to do so. It seems that @DrakenFX way of unlocking is working on both B02 and B03 anyway if ZTE ever wanted to not unlock the bootloader even tough they said they would.
