Ok... What are all of you doing for your battery life? I just watched that video from the guy who showed the SetCPU and stuff and don't believe his battery is that good. My phone has been off the charger for 20 minutes and Klaxon was running and it is down 5% already AND I have the 1600 mAh Seidio battery. It just isn't possible. Android is a battery hog. I've messed with SetCPU and noticed nothing different. I have the sleep profile set to like 245/3xx and I messed with the advanced settings. What do you guys have your advanced settings at? I have the screen brightness on auto and I don't use twitter/facebook/news. The only data all day is my Touchdown e-mail and weather updates as far as automatic goes. Can someone please shed some darn light here? For the whole day at work I have full 3G and Bluetooth is on, but no WiFi. Any help, PLEASE?
Do you get good reception at work? Bad reception wastes battery life.
Have you tried running the phone down to a low 5-10%, wiped battery stats in amon's recovery, powered off, and given a full charge to help reset it? This can help.
You dont have that notification in succession stuff going that keeps you in a wake lock state right?
Seconding the recommendation to wipe the battery stats.
How do I change notification in succession? I'm on the latest Cyanogen which I believe included that. Also, how do I install the UV .33 Kernel - will that help? And where is the amon's recovery to wipe stats?
Thanks for all of the help!
EDIT: From Modaco's kitchen, I did Cyanogen - so is that the kernel I want. And nvm, I do know where the wipe battery stats is. Brain fart. So I should leave it charing while off?
Check this out - are we sure Klaxon isn't doing any damage? Or is there anything else of concern here.

I got the two extra batteries and external charger for $20 bucks from China off ebay. They work phenomenally. I haven't ruled out the possibility that they are giving me some kind of terminal illness though.

What was the benefit of the external charger, battery last longer? if so much better than before?
welp. When the current battery cruds out, I pop a fresh one in, and then the empty one goes into the external charger.
I got the extra batteries originally for long trips etc, but this current system seems to be working fantastic.

2 - one Seidio 1600 and one stock 1400. I just threw the stock one in and will wipe Battery Stats as soon as it hits 100% and then see how it goes tomorrow. Should I be using SetCPU or no since I am on the .7 Kernel?

I never rooted so couldn't recommend what to do. But if you know its not tested then don't. Use a supported kernal always to minimize your problems and headaches..
I haven't rooted yet. I did the turn off notifications thing and get a sms program from the market thing. worked wonders.
setCPU profile to screen off max power is 245, UV kernel, I get around 50 hours use.

Well sir you should sell your phone as magic beans because that is just a joke.
Theres no way i could get through 2 days with the seidi 3300 and wifi on the ENTIRE time and moderate usage. Just isnt happening so maybe you have some kind of config I dont know about but im thoroughly interested in copying your EXACT settings
This phone is useless to me if it isnt connected to the internet though for gtalk etc so if your data lasts that long because it just isnt connected to the internet at all that isnt any good to me
I tried the EE03 ROM for about 2 days and I went back to my EC05 SRF 1.1.1 because I'm running my 2800mAh Yoobao which I can average 2 days on using the full 100mhz - 1400mhz range of the Genocide Kernel....with EC05....the two days I ran EE03 I couldn't make it 15 hours...smh I don't know if I'm missing something but can I get a pointer to get the full capacity I know my extended battery can give me running EE03?

Data was on the entire time. Its really not that hard to do. Freeze DRM apks. Stop unneeded junk from starting up and launching upon connectivity changes and the like through autostarts. If you REALLY wanted to save data, turn data off at night while you are sleeping by long holding the power button and selecting turn data off. Stop syncing with facebook every 15 minutes. I don't sync or use facebook at all, maybe that is the magic bean. Don't have 30 widgets constantly running. Don't overclock. Brightness set low. Very simple things.
Edit: Also, properly calibrate your phone and battery. Turn off auto rotation and haptic feedback and things like that.
..
What was your screen on time?
Have haptic off and drm killed. I will check facebook. What startup killer do you use

I think it's crazy the differences of all "smart phone" battery life.
How can some people get 4 hours and others get days? I went through this with my EVO before exchanging it for my epic. Others have problems with their epic and none with the evo?
The hardware should all be the same so is it all androids fault?
They really need to fix this issue.
Which app was used to produce the graph in the first post? I don't think I've seen that one before.

There are a few reasons.
1) Some users just REALLY use the hell out of their phone. They have 4g enabled and are constantly taking calls or streaming music or browsing the internet or gaming on it.
2) Some users have no idea what they are doing. They enable 30 widgets that are constantly updating and pulling data. They have facebook and twitter syncing every 15 minutes. They have the brightness set from medium to high. There is nothing you can do to make a setup like this save battery life.
3) Some users KNOW what they are doing. They limit their widgets to necessary ones. They set the brightness to autobrightness or low. They lengthen the time between syncs for social media. They freeze the DRM files. They use something like autostarts to limit startup programs.
That is why battery life is all over the place. Also, people have completely different definitions of what "heavy use" or "light use" is. Add on top of all of this, that people are using different roms and kernels. Add on top of all of THAT, that some people undervolt their phones.

That is the stock gingerbread meter.
Gingerbread is awesome like that. If you go to Settings>About Phone>Battery Use and then tap on the small graph up on top, it expands to create that full screen graph.
I have noticed a huge battery increase too. I have not changed any settings on my phone to try and improve it. I got use to my 12 - 16 hours of use moderately. The only difference I made was not installing Advanced Task Killer and relying only on the stock Task Manager. I got 1d 8h of battery life on OEM battery. I will post screen shot when I get to my computer.
I got 26 hours off my first charge from getting Sprint's 2600mah battery off heavy usage. Now i can barely get 6 hours in 50% after i calibrated it. My lesson is, don't fix what's not broken -___- idk why its getting poor battery all of a sudden. I barely even used my phone today. Wth is going on? ;/

Look at your awake time. You have something up a lot. Even when your screen was off you had something running away. If you can't find it do a factory reset and back track your apps. If your rooted its really easy to restore apps, just don't restore data. Start over.
You definitely have a wake lock.
Your phone was awake for hours while the screen wasn't even on at all.
No this is when my battery was good. And that is NOT a wakelock, that is WIFI. WIFI being on counts as awake apparently when i test it.

No, my wifi is on anytime I'm in a wifi area and yet my awake time is not even close to the same amount of time.
It seems like the calibration method you used is what caused you an issue.
It might be that the phone thinks your aftermarket battery is only the stock battery and is therefore only charging part of the battery.

And wifi does not cause wake locks. But unless you were playing music the whole time that's a lot of awake time for the screen to be off.

You should definitely watch that awake time though.
You were wake locked in that screen shot and that will eat your battery like none other.
Getting a bit fed with battery and thought I would see if anyone has any brainwaves on here, or whether my usage sounds about right.
I've been a bit stupid this morning and actually USED my phone. Been on battery for 38m. In car for 20mins with bluetooth connected, quick 2 min phone call. about half a dozen texts sent and facebook status updated with friendstream.
display = 54%
bluetooth = 11%
voice = 8%
wifi = 5% - although not connecting
android sys = 5%
dialer = 5%
android os = 3%
Idle = 3%
MessageCS = 2%
handscent SMS = 2%
Calendar 2%
Battery currently sat on 78% and regretting not bringing charger with me.
My missus Desire S in comparison, noticed last weekend on Saturday she was on 95% left. Asked when she last charged it and apparently it was Thursday!!! I lose 5% in 5mins if I try and do anything. She can sit there all night playing solitaire and use hardly any battery, mine would be dead if I tried the same.
So frustrating. Great phone just such bad bad battery unless just something on mine.
You can search in the DHD developpemnt thread there is some tips to get great battery
Would that be rooted though?
Yeah You Have To Root Your Phone
I rooted my phone, installed LeeDroid HD V5.1.1, still i just got 8 hours on the battery till it dropped to 10% .. i had an always ON EDGE connection with a few calls. Any suggestions?
You Should calibrate Your battery
install current widget from Market and battery calibration
once installed put on a screen the current widget and charge your phone and wait till the widget shows U 0ma then open battery calibration and calibrate your phone then unplug. try it the if the problem stills the same tell me
Just had quick look and I see there are 2 battery calibration apps, one by Nema and one by Professionals.
Which one are you suggesting?
the one for Nema
ah installed and says has to be rooted
Please charge your battery to 100%, boot your device in ClockworkMod Recovery and go to Advanced ---> Wipe Battery Stats.
ok does this mean needs to be rooted again?

It not always necessarily calibrating issue... You could try out different ROM or Radios...
I have seen good battery life with RCMix Blue energized edition... While sleep it gives you amazingly low battery drain.

I checked on the terminal emulator, my ril does not match my radio.. can i flash the matching ril? Is the risk less as compared to flashing a new radio?

Just be careful, follow the instruction as explained in threads... I have done it a few times... They even say flashing is risky but that can't stop me, doing it in every 2-3 days.
Or you can go for AOSP ROM...
Pull the battery after shutting off the phone and then go do something else for a minute or two, put the battery back in.
I'd also advise getting better battery stats to check for partial wakelocks.

Once we get charged up (and back down), let's see how the battery life in the S4 compares to the quad core.
Please make sure to include your screen on time, as that is the best indicator of light/heavy use.
pleasantly surprised
I can't believe how good the battery has been so far, 84% after 13hours (over night)
I am a light user. still - that is impressive for stock. I never got close to that with my OG Epic on stock which was usually 3% per hour.

Not too bad for first day with moderate to heavy use!
This is heavy usage. Screen on time of 3.5 hours. Downloading Max Payne and a lot of apps. Downloading and listening to audio on Google chrome. Lots of Pulse usage. Games, YouTube, and 30 minutes of phone calls.
*edit* Bluetooth and wifi on all day long.

I wish I could get some stats like that. The screenshots are while I was sleeping and 7% seems like a lot of drain for it just sitting there. Only thing on was wifi. Cell standby time on is always the same as the time on battery, is that normal?
edit: the phone now shows 79% battery left with time on battery of 12h 46m; cell standby the exact same; screen on at 9% with time on of 48m. I'm fully stock and running power save mode.
Here are my stats. I think the battery life isn't too bad so far but we will see.

No, they will carry over until you re-charge or change the battery.
I was going to make a thread like this, but it was already here! Here are my results after my second full charge and regular usage. The results are on par with my fully modified and decked out Epic. Of course, this device has a bigger battery, but it also has a larger screen. Between the hardware and software upgrades, I'm very impressed with the stock battery life. This includes wifi on at all times as well as signal w/data. Some motion features are enabled, nfc is not, and google sync is off (I use stock email). Now how much further can this be improved?? Remember not to be discouraged, Screen On times will vary depending on what the phone is used for. Showing pictures is much less battery intensive than watching YouTube videos.

Ugh. I need some assistance. I've done all I can to maximize battery life, but my phone is just not going to cooperate. According to battery apps my battery is healthy, but you have got to be kidding me. Look at this. It's quite terrible.
Is that like 1 hour into a new rom or something...looks like you have no battery stats to go by. Plus if your stock 8.0 stand by is horrible... Flash a custom kernel and underclock the large cores...that has really changed my battery life.

It is just a few hours after turning on my device. I will record my battery percentage throughout the day and repost a new image. It's pretty dreadful
It gets better. Don't worry to much. I still recommend flashing a custom kernel.. there are some really good ones around here and underclocking the big cores has really changed this device for me

Check your battery capacity with a program like Accubattery like everybody else does. Have you not read the 25 or so other battery threads here on the exact same topic? Step #1. Test your battery!
Gsam battery can offer some good battery stats as well. You will want to enable ADB on your 6P and then you can enable more stats in Gsam. ( google Gsam enable more stats)
What helped my battery life was turning off bluetooth scanning ( search bluetooth scanning in settings). Gsam was showing a bluetooth wakelock using a lot of battery.

I probably should have stated that I have done this and attempted to root and use gsam and the like to disable wakelocks, and mess around with alarms and services. No increase of screen-on time.
I put in a new battery and with stock 8.0 it was about 2.5 sot. Got rid of stock kernel and started tweaking some things and get like 4 sot. I don't really trust the battery apps. They have done nothing for me

I haven't used my phone virtually all day and I'm down to 60%
PS. Any suggestions for a custom kernal?
I'm stock 8.0 ATM using ElementalX
I underclocked the big cores to 1500 /small leave stock at 1500
Leave off all the gestures to wake
Also turn off WiFi and Bluetooth scanning
I turn off location until I need it and keep brightness at 50%
If that doesn't help u prbly should replace ur battery
I bought a new back when I did my battery... it was pretty easy.
About 40 $ total..that's battery and back with new glass and bottom trim
If you do it urself just use suction to separate the body from the screen and watch out for the display ribbon under the center of the battery

Alright, thank you so much! I will be trying both of these.
