Broke my glass and have a question! - HD2 General

Greetings,
I was wondering. A few weeks back I broke the glass on my HTC HD2. It was only the glass, because the screen and touch capability was working as usual.
Sent it in for repairs same day as it was broken, and this is week 3 now, and they are still waiting to get the parts for it.
Also they told me that they could not just replace the glass, but they had to replace everything, including the LCD and all. Is this correct? Because it's getting quite costly for me, since they estimated that the repairs would be around $420 / 2500NOK / £280.
Is this true? Do you have to replace everything? Or are they just saying it to earn some more $$$. I'm guessing they're not paying that much to buy the parts.

They have to because from what I have read, the LCD is glued to the digitizer.

How did you arrange repair? My brother has cracked his screen and had it replaced under insurance, the company have suggested he get it repaired as a back up or sell it.

that is simply robbery. TMobile US is selling brand new HD2's for that price. can't you find another service center?

On ebay a digitizer for touch hd costs about 50 €. the lcd display alone wouldnt be that expensive too i think.
http://cgi.ebay.de/Touch-Screen-Dig...ting_LaptopAccessories_RL?hash=item414c3bcbdb
And even in the store that other guy gave you the link to there is a huge price difference to the price you were told to pay.

For that price just buy a new one and save that for pieces

It sounds expensive to me. I saw iPhone screen repairs advertised for £39. It's not the same screen, I know, and there are more iPhones around, but I'd expect the cost to be similar.

Screen cracked

Hey gang my screen cracked a couple of days ago and the phone looks horrible. the lcd did not suffered but only the crystal/glass is shattered.
no insurance and from T-mobile... Any ideas on what are my options. I really like my phone and don't want to buy or change but don't want to party crazy money for repairs either.
Help
You can fix yourself. There is a video here somewhere to show you how to diassemble, see if you feel feel comfortable doing it. It will probably cost about $120-160 for a both lcd and digitizer assembly. If replacing the digitizer only around $40-60 but you risk damaging the lcd if you are not careful. At least $200 if you get someone to fix for you. If that is too much I suggest you purchase another phone and sell your hd2. Insurance would have cost you around $130 also. I like the good old days with only $50 deductible.

If the repairs are the same as buying a used one that isn't broken off craigslist, you should go that route... At least that is what I would do. Not sure about you, but I would not spend a bunch of money on new glass, then trust myself to not mess it up. Looks easy enough on the video, but we all know how that goes.
These guys onsite cellular repair in tx can fix it for $120. They do mail-in also.
Anyone have a link to the video?
I been there!!!

Hey,
Have you gotten your HD2 fixed there? I just went there yesterday and they said they could fix it for $128. I really hope that they can get the the whole touchscreen replaced and they said they would, that's not too bad. But I just want to make sure that they are true to it.

Cheap digitizer?

So today i dropped my vibrant. Screen cracked so im a sad panda . I really dont feel like dishing out 200-300 bucks to asurion to fix this, so im going to buy the parts i need and fix it myself.
What i need to know is, is it possible to just buy the glass part of the screen by itself? The screen and Digitzer both still work 100%, so the only thing bothering me are the ugly cracks. Are the digitizer lcd and glass plate only sold as one part? because i really dont want to dish out 70 bucks to fix a piece of cracked glass...
If they are only sold as one part, can someone link me to the cheapest one available? like is there anything under 60 bucks?
The deductible for T-Mobile customers should be $135 at the most

It isn't going to be 'Cheap'
And where did you get $200-$300 from asurion? It only costs like $135 like the other guy said..
Deductible is $130.
Get a body glove for your next phone, as well (dropped mine ~10 feet off a short ladder and it was fine in that case - not even a scratch).
I will spare you the what you should have done...
But searching here will find you plenty of similar threads...
The digitizer/glass/AMOLED is all one piece. No way to NOT replace the whole piece. Samsung will charge you $170 direct to replace BTW if you send it to them.
You can find some on EBAY of course some may or may not be AMOLED as one of the awesomely friendly sellers let me know of his own product.
I ended up picking mine up from a stateside seller, and it was $77 with overnight shipping (used a coupon code and google checkout). Missionrepair.com was the place.

Was it AMOLED or LCD (website says LCD)? How hard was the replacement? It may be worth the extra $30 to have them replacement.
I just pulled "your" deductible through Asurion here at my store. It's $130 and that includes express shipping so you'll have it pretty much overnight.

Cracked Screen

My phone slipped out of my car when parked today and the screen cracked. I had the Verizon hard rubber case on it but I think it was just too cold for the screen against the street.
What can I do? I have insurance with vzw, but will I have to pay the $50 for get it replaced? If i do do that, will they end up giving me an LCD screen instead of AMOLED?
or would I just be better of buying a glass screen replacement and replacing it myself? This would probably void by warranty and should be a last option, but still an option.
Thanks ahead of time.

I've broken my screen a few times. It's not covered under warranty and the insurance claim is $80(at least for me it was) I received an S-LCD on my most recent replacement and to be honest it's not nearly as big of a deal to me as it was at the time.
From the looks of it here you might be better off paying the $80 for an insurance replacement.

$80?! dam.. it used to be $50 :/
i was hoping the replacement would just be the glass covering but i guess that's not the case.
Well this sucks... thanks for the advice tho
i actually just recently cracked mine also. I bought the bezel from www.repairsuniverse.com and got the glass digitizer and a tool kit from amazon. Spent about $85 in total.

Broke my Glass

Accident insurance cost extra here in the states.
These two are all that I can find on Ebay. Both are $155 usd shipped.
Unfortunately it is an assembly, lcd and digitizer. Hopefully you can simply find a digitizer for less.
Plus...
Either one will have to ship from China so the wait will be most likely be a long one.
OP, check your pm inbox .
mmh Thanx a lot guys. But i found just the digitizer on ebay for 99$. Im not a US resident so I do not have the luxury of getting awesome insurance plans. But still not sure if i can open the piece and replace it. .

Odd, not for me.
When I got mine I registered it online and I have 1 year of Accidental Damage insurance. I didn't pay anything extra for it.

Repairing the S7 Edge LCD is crazy expensive

My brother has the black S7 Edge with a Unicorn Beetle protective case on it as well as a plastic screen protector. This morning, he dropped it on that kind of surface that has a bump on the door step to his room. I don't know what's that actually called, but his screen fell to hit that first. There's no external damages and the screen is fine, but his LCD got cracked with flashing white on the bottom half of the screen.
I have Costco Squaretrade warranty so we just have to pay a deductible, but they tell us to bring it to a local repair shop to fix it while they will reimburse it afterwards. To much of my surprise, I called one repair shop and it costs $399 for parts and labor altogether to fix it!
Do you guys have any other suggestions about how much should the LCD really costs? That's pretty much a good price too buy another phone. Lol

They are very expensive because the actual LCD is costly. I personally went with the protection plan from Verizon. It's a $200 deductible if you break or lose the phone for $11 a month.

See, I can't do Verizon's protection plans anymore. $11 a month with a $200 deductible. Let's say you keep your phone for two years with that protection plan. $11 * 12 months = $132 * 2 years = $264. With Squaretrade, especially through Costco, it's $120 for two years with an $85 deductible. $120/2 = $60 a year/12 months = $5 a month. It's a far cheaper insurance in comparison and they will compensate me on the $400 that I guess that I'll have to drop tomorrow minus the deductible....
Anyhow, any good cases to highly recommend against damages like this in the future?

The difference is you'll get an aftermarket china screen repaired by someone who probably hasn't repaired an s7e screen yet. Will almost guarantee you it wont be water proof anymore, wont be gorilla glass, Digitizer will very likely have or develop dead spots, LCD probably isn't same quality and it'll probably have little to no oleophobic coating to repel fingerprints.
I repair screens daily and am familiar with aftermarket screens. Even buying screens at wholesale with no labor i'd rather use Asurion for my personal phone.
With ATT & Asurion insurance if i don't have a claim in 6 months they cut deductible in half to $99, and they normally just send a new phone, and they ship overnight. I've never received a refurb from them, at least that i could tell. Not saying they don't send refurbs, i just couldn't tell, always look brand new. And when i broke my s6e they gave me my s7e as the replacement and mailed overnight. I wish Samsung would do like HTC and replace the screen free 1 time.
If i had to use square trade, i'd send the phone to samsung and let them replace the screen with original samsung parts. It'll be cheaper than local shop using aftermarket parts, but it'll take 7-10 days. I sent them an s6 the other day and they replaced screen for $129. Cheaper than i could buy an aftermarket screen. For some reason they insist on wiping the phone. They say it's so they can test everything properly. I've installed many hundred screens and never needed to reset a phone. And if anything else is broke or damaged cosmetically , they want to replace that too. Tried to charge me for a back glass that i didnt ask for. They said it was their policy to repair everything that's broken, requested or not. They gave me the back glass for free after talking to manager.
on this page you'll see 2 alerts in blue then a show more button below them. Click that and you'll get to the screen repair section with prices and instructions. s6e and s6e plus is $299. they dont show the 7 edge but i'm sure they repair them and its probably same price as s6edge. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SM-G935AZSAATT#
Don't drop you phone... problem solved.
So I walked into a local repair shop and they have the kit from Samsung to replace, but it'll cost $400 plus tax to fix and all. One thing they did advise me is that once it's done, the phone will not be water resistant anymore. Dropping $400 for it to lose a feature permanently is an absolute no.
I called up Samsung to see what they told me and a rep over the phone said that if there are no visible cracked screens or anything, it can be covered under warranty. I'm puzzled by that statement even though it was dropped, but it's true that I find it highly weird the LCD is damaged but nothing on the outside is damaged. What do you all think?
And I have attached a photo of what's wrong with the phone. I'm tempted on purchasing the Ghostek 2.0 Atomic case for full fledged protection.

Paying a lot extra for a higher quality of repair is something I'm OK with. Also being able to use my own case of choice is nice rather than getting a tank case and fearing the day when my screen cracks.

If there is no visible physical damage they will never know it was dropped. It is unusual for the LCD to die without the glass being busted but it happens. I would take it to Verizon store and have it replaced under factory warranty.

Just to update the topic, it seems like it's a somewhat common issue for the S7 series that have a damaged LCD whereas the outside body and glass of the phone can remain pristine as out of the box. As you can see here in this video, they're testing out the ruggedness of this phone case for a regular S7. It protected it from everything, but Samsung's build quality within the phone is very lacking.
https://www.facebook.com/ghostekproducts/videos/539751482902263/
Anyhow, I received a notification yesterday that Samsung has received the phone and will be in the care of one of its technicians. And literally before midnight at the end of the day, they notified me that the repair was completed and ready for shipping. The service ticket was expecting the service to be completed by the 30th of this month, and they just finished within the day. No charge too!
I will be waiting to get the phone back and see if the water resistance is still part of the phone's main feature.

How expensive - I had Samsung replace a screen a few years ago on a Note, and they were the cheapest and (of course) best replacement I could find - 1/2 of a few local options. It included 2 day shipping going and coming back.
B+ Grade / SBI cheap replacement screen will be the best choice
Yes you are correct, Samsung Galaxy S7 edge screen are very expensive, the cost is almost up to a new phone.
After doing a lot of search and repair guide from ifixit, Finally i bought a "B-Grade-LCD-Screen-Touch-Digitizer-Assembly-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S7-Edge-Gold" at $189 from ebay.
it takes about 2 weeks arrived. after testing it. i found the quality is excellent. it was amazing, there is a little defective spot on the screen, but it is almost $160 cheaper than oem, why not?
Cheapest Silver one I could find was $305. Samsung quoted me $260 including shipping.
