Somehow the last MT3G I had lost all 3g connectivity. My phone was still under warranty so they sent me a replacement. Rooted my old phone long ago and had been running Super D.
New Phone Spec:
White MT3G 1.0
PVT-32B ships on-G
SPL: 1.33.0007
CLPD-10
Radio: 2.22.23.02
Firmware: 1.6
Build Number: DMD64
I've tried everything, I've looked everywhere I have not been able to root this stupid thing. Tried the 1-click method, tried the gold card method. Tried multiple SAPPimg, both .nbh and .zip files. Tried hboot and fastboot methods. NOTHING! Anyone have any success with this new replacement model that they are shipping out?
Did you get this resolved?
I am going to apologize in advance if I break any of the "rules". I'm a noob to XDA and forums in general.
I was about to root my MT3G from T-mobile and found your post.
I had the same issue with my first MT3G after flashing the latest Cyanogen ROM. Every time I tried to connect to an app or URL that required a 3g/network connection I received an "unable to connect to network" error. I tried to unroot/reroot but the issue still persisted.
I followed the unlockr un-root process and I contacted T-Mo for a replacement. The replacement came with Android 1.5 and within 12 hours picked up an OTA for 1.6 DMD64 build.
I've been running stock Android on the replacement device without attempting to root. I just ordered a N1 and will be passing this phone to my husband. I wanted to root the device before giving it to him since he's got a G1 with root.
Have you been able to root your phone since you made this post?
Thanks

You try this yet.

yes that was my first stop, as im reading it looks like the tmo software i have its patched, anyone know anything about this.
I don't think they have ever done that, I may be wrong
Download DRC83Base defrangled and the stock SPL, boot to recovery and wipe all, flash the stock spl, then flash the drc83 and let the phone reboot. If I'm not mistaken, drc83 is the stock, unrooted firmware. It will remove your recovery and any information you have on /system. I believe that you may get an OTA to DMD64 after unrooting.
how do i flash the DRC83 i cant get into recovery
1. Not a G1.
2. Not development related.
Moved to MyTouch3G General.
What happened that you lost access to the recovery? You can always flash through fastboot.
i did not loose it, its a replcement phone from tomobile, i tried from fast boot and no luck either, i tried the RA-Dream v1.7.0 and nothing.
You said in your first post that you are trying to unroot your phone. Do you mean that you are trying to root your phone?

Hi all. Im having a little trouble with my phone and I need help. Ive asked in a few forums but Im not getting much responds from them, so I thought I would try here. Im sorry if this is in the wrong forum. If it is, mods please move it to the appropriate forum.
I am from Hong Kong and I bought an HTC Magic. I also downloaded the upgrade from HTC which puts HTC sense in my phone. I decided to try rooting my phone one day so I followed a walk through/how to on rooting and flashing. I put CM 5. 0. 7 rom on my phone and tried it out. After a few days, I decided that the new rom wasnt for me. I missed the HTC sense, it was draining my battery, there were a lot of features on the phone that I cant use (due to my location), so I wanted to revert back to the stock rom. After looking around, i found a write on how to unroot the phone. It was simple enough so I thought i would give it a try and see how that goes. Well it worked, my phone is back to 1.5, but my Magic is now a myTouch3G. This rom was worse that before!! I cant write anything to the SD card, the camera function doesnt work. I would much rather stick to my rooted rom than this base rom. Starting to really kick my self in the ass for rooting my phone to begin with. I started researching on how to root my phone again, but its proofing to be a lot harder than I thought. Ive tried rooting my phone the same way I did before, but installing the 3. 05. 401. 1 test rom failed, the program wasnt able to flash it. Ive tried the 3. 22. x root method and that didnt work (I think its because my radio isnt 3. 22. x or 6. xx. x), i wasnt able to flash a new recovery image to my phone.
I called in HTC in Hong Kong and asked them if they can help me revert back to my old factory rom, but they pretty much told me that the only way to do that is to replace the motherboard which is costly. Ive asked shops which specializes in hacking phones and repairs and etc and pretty much everyone I talked to dont root android phones anymore, the only work on iphones.
So I turn you fellow xda-ers to help me root my phone again. I know CM has a new rom out...the CM 5 .0 .8 test 4 or if there is a 2.2 froyo that would be great (but dont know the stability or if my phone could handle it)

Let me know what other information you need. Thanks in advance
I have done the exact same thing!
You need to make a goldcard, which after 4 different mirco sd cards I cant get it to work. I make one and it just comes up cid incorrect. Bloodly htc and there perfect spl.
My magic will soon be in the bin and I will be buying a Desire or Iphone4.
Good luck
Ive tried 2 SD cards and it didnt work. Maybe i need to try more cards until I find one that works.
Get the desire, screw iphone 4 =P
Yep I know what you mean about Iphone, I hate apple with a passion. But HTC and their perfect spl Im begining to hate them equally. Tried another micro sd today still no luck.
stu-k
are you having trouble making a goldcard, or having trouble rooting, flashing uploading anything after unrooting?
i dont think its the goldcard's problem, but just how the phone is "screwed up" after unrooting
Yeah had trouble making goldcard but someone linked a goldcard maker program which worked a treat. Rooted again and running cusorsense.
Will never go down that unroot path again.
Just a quick question re HTC Magic rooting 2.1. I tried to use the SAPPIMG method, but it gave me the wrong model ID error.
In order to downgrade my device, is my only option to create a goldcard?
Or is there some other way to get back to 1.5 or even 1.6 on my magic. (I have had very poor luck with gold cards on my hero... never got it working.) Or has Androot been updated to support 2.1 or was the exploit patched?
Thanks again.

I followed the steps on your process but got stuck at step 5.
It says that I do not have the right permissions.
what do I do to fix this?
I recently upgraded to the Evo from the Hero. Over the last few days, it seems like a trend has been developing. Folks with hw version 0003 and sw per 3.39 have had a very hard time gaining root. Vote in my pole and tell me how it went for you. If you HAVE had success, let us know what worked for you. Again, this pole is for folks w/ hardware version 0003 who purchased the phone with 3.30 installed, and hboot 2.02 s-on
Those of you that managed to get rooted and flashing, what method did you use??
I followed this guide. Make sure you have adb working and you have the files in the right folders.

Not yet. It goes great up to the point where I flash PC36IMG.zip, but when that is flashing, it throws an error during the radio v2 update (fail-pu) and instead of skipping bootloader, like it says in the guide, it tries to update and throws an error there, too (fail-ic). After this, it finishes the flash. I can get to recovery, I can even flash a custom recovery, but when I try to boot, it just hangs at the white HTC splash. To get it to boot, I hafta run the ruu. S-off sticks, so unrevoked is working, but I don't have root, and I can't flash custom roms. I have checked my md5sum, adb communicates correctly. Something about the pc36img file just doesn't work with my phone. I will say, the pc36img in Dan's thread doesn't throw the errors, but I still couldn't boot afterwards. Think I'm gonna step away from rooting for a day or two and just enjoy my new phone. I'll come back at this when I'm fresh, not so frustrated.
I can confirm tejasrichard's findings. Used the same method above. It threw me the radio error when flashing PC36IMG.zip. adb could not perform the rename in step 15 after this, but did accept the recovery command. Step 16 worked (no step 17), but in Step 18, the recovery failed and froze on the white HTC splash. Manually put the Amon RA and radio updates onto the SD card and flashed that sucesfully, but still froze on the HTC Splash. Had to flash back into 3.30 ruu.
I did go back and try unrevoked3 and the process said it completed, however hboot gave an error on the last step when going into the clockwork recovery and looking for the unrevoked-forever.zip files. I did reboot it and it completed a boot into something similar to 3.30 ruu with a different background. Superuser app is present.
Confirmed no root, but still have S-OFF.

I voted without reading this part. "purchased the phone with 3.30 installed"
I have 003, and am a flashaholic. But I purchased mine two days after launch.
Similar experience
Adding to the thread here. Pretty new to all this. I banged my head against the wall for hours rooting my new EVO bought just a couple days ago. (hw version 003)
Managed to get S-off using Method 3 (which I think has been edited to be the only method as it's been the most reliable) from the thread...
'[TOOL][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02 S-OFF'
Once I had S-OFF I thought I was golden. However, I could not flash any roms through recovery. Tried Fresh, Myn, Ava...kept getting errors. Always, it was back to RUU. The only thing that has worked for me thus far was using the 'Sprint Lovers' rom at this thread:
'[ROM] 11/07/10 | SPRINT LOVERS | 2.2 | 3.30.651.2 | Radio/Wimax/PRI All-In-One'
Not sure what's different about this Rom but it loads as a PC36IMG.zip file from Bootloader and not through recovery. I'm then able to boot the phone normally. Superuser, Wifi hotspot, swype, 4g, camera works fine...nice. It's basically stock Sense with rooted goodness. I actually love it and have tweaked the phone beautifully.
HOWEVER, I'm almost certain that i'm not fully rooted. (Maybe partially Nand unlocked) I have no idea. I've had to reload the ROM 3 times because I decided to go into recovery for one reason or another and gotten stuck in boot loop hell always going back to recovery. ARG!! Not sure the reason for that. I tried so many things early on that I cannot account for everything. I'm just going to roll with this ROM for now until the dust settles.
I'm following this thread closely:
'[GUIDE] HBoot 2.02 S-OFF'
Supposed to downgrade your HBoot which I think may be the whole problem. We'll see. I don't have the energy to start from scratch again. I'm actually quite happy with Sprint Lovers.
Thanks for the info! I'll try that ROM soon as I can and see if it works for me.
A few weeks ago my old MT3G 1.0 stopped working, so I got a replacement from TMobile, the exact same model. I rooted it, but since the stock Froyo, Yoshi Ginger, and so on custom ROMs using Froyo+ are badly lagging the phone, Ive decided to unroot it with sappimg.nbh, downgrade it to Cupcake, than OTA to Donut and root back. Unfortunately, the sappimg.nbh which was running without problems with the old phone, now gives me an error: "Main version is older". I tried it with my goldcard and got the same message. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks.
Is it currently rooted? I have an idea I always wanted to try
