Hi i currently have one HTC Tattoo and i'm quite happy with it but for 60€ diference i could switch to an HTC Magic (HTC Sapphire: myTouch 3G, Magic) .
Would i have a huge difference switching to HTC Magic or would it be minimal?
Thanks for you help
i personally bought Tattoo for the fact than i can make it look diferent from the rest and it's smaller than hero and nexus and it's not geeky like them! now thanks to the developers that worked on Tattoo I think it's not a big difference betwen magic and al the others...

Now that the Magic has Sense UI, go for it!
In performance terms there's much difference?
The screen is bigger and better resolution. I own a tattoo and like its relative smallness but I think the magic is also better looks wise.
Maybe you could hold on for a month and get either the desire or legend. I am looking at one of these as my next phone.
Maybe i'll play for now with my tattoo and then go for something more powerfull since i dont know the platform that well.
The tattoo lags a little sometimes when i scroll, hope that's fixable in android 2.0 or 2.1
That isn't something that needs to be fixed on the OS itself. Even if your phone has a faster processor, then it'll run smoothly on 1.6 also.
Hey i have a htc TATTOO RUNNING 1.6 and i am tiered of it is there a way to get 2.0 or 2.x pls tell me how u cn do it or where i cn get the file my email address is [email protected]
The difference between then are the screen dimension an better resolution. the rest are the same. Tattoo beats Magic at birth day, the little Android it's newer and the only HTC device with customizable cases.

Heyas! just wondering what people would choose... i already have the Hero but the wife is due a new phone.. so i could get away with giving her the Hero and grabbing a HD2 for myself if i wanted to
So,, other than that MAAAHHOOOSIVE screen on the HD2... another other benefits over the Hero?? or Vise versa?
Which would you choose and why?
cheers!
I am moving from my hero to HD2 . Why? I prefer large screen , I like wm6.5 , 1ghz processor and I am hoping the HD2 has a stronger gps signal . Also the hero chin makes 2 hands typing harder. Wm6.5 has lots of good software.the hero is a great device but the wow factor of the HD2 is too much got mine on order from clove.
Get the HD2 is a no brainer, since this is a HD2 forum section that has thousands of positive posts
Hd2, best device on the market now!!
Look buddy you know you can't resist, so why even ask? Get the HD2!
yes, definitly HD2 but it is your decision
Dear Community.
I've one question...
HTC has a lot of Android phones in their product line...
Magic, Hero, Tatoo
But what is the big difference between them?
I only know that Hero and Tatoo have little bit more Ram and an other UI.
But is it worth to buy a Tatoo in stead of an Magic?
thanks

I'm not an expert of testing different phones. But here's my short review anyway. There are no huge differences, though the Hero doesn't upgrade to OS 1.6 yet.
I'll start with the Magic.
The Magic has two version, the 32B and 32A.
To summarize that, the 32A is a little "faster" can load more apps and used OS 1.5 but now upgraded to 1.6. Big disadvantages are having no 3.5 mm jack for audio, bad camera and multimedia support.
The Hero has the nice Sense UI (Rosie) but might have little lag on homescreen once you put more applications on it etc.. One of the neat things is the fingerprint-resistant coating so you don't have to clean it over and over like the Magic.
The Tattoo runs 1.6 and is much like Hero because of the Sense UI and it is much faster with booting. The design fits better in one hand because it's more round shaped. Disadvantage is the smaller screen.
You can modify any of these phones to your taste. But I think HTC has done a great job with Tattoo. The Dream & Magic are also good phones, but if you plan not to mod the phone I'd say Tattoo.
Just my opinion with some facts. The choice is up to you.
All Android phones are cool.
i could live with the small screen as a pocket suitable phone but the screen of the tattoo is only a resistive screen instead of a capacitive screen. Which is a big disadvantage.
What about the TMobile MyTouch 3G?
Where does the TMobile MyTouch 3G fit in with all of that?
And why does the description on this board only say "also known as HTC Magic" but not "also known as TMobile MyTouch 3G"?
Thanks for reply.
I would flash roms to my phone, so the UI differences are not so importand for me...
But when I do a comparison between... Hero and Magic (Magic has a Rom with Sense ui)
Am I right if I say they are then very similar??
greets

Well, if you get a T-Mobile MyTouch 3G or some models from Vodafone also means you'll get PVT32B version with 192MB ram. And that isn't really good enough for a HTC Hero Rom. It would eventually lag (slow down) even with swap. PVT32A has 288MB ram FYI. There are pretty good Roms for this one, but from my experience with using Android phones I've never had problems with android 1.6 donut and 2.0 eclair. You can modify them a lot to make it look like the Sense UI if you really want to. Or ofcourse just get the HTC Hero...

I thought HTC already released an update to fix any lag on the phone.

The mt3g is the same
the reason it say also known as the magic is because that is the real name of htc's phone
they use sapphire because thats what its called in the coding
the mt3g is just what tmobile decided to call it because they seem to be the only one's with a contract to switch htc's names (htc now wants to brand themselves so we'll see how much longer that last)...
the difference in the names really doesnt matter... it come down to what type of board you have 32a/32b

Yes that might be.
I'm not that up to date with the Hero, I heard people have had problems with it and not sure if that's fixed by now, that's why I said 'might'.
Other than that what about the motorola droid, that looks good, all metal casing.
Radio differences
pack: Thanks for the reply!
I suppose there are radio differences too since there seems to be a lot of variation in how carriers handle 3G, at least in terms of frequencies used. TMobile and AT&T in the US do 3G differently and it seems that carriers in Europe and Asia have other ways. I don't know, though, if each 3G carrier's version of the Sapphire has an internal name at HTC for differentiation.
It would be great, though, if HTC started coming out with phones that had radios capable of being used on any GSM network, including data at 3G speeds, because everyone I know in the US with a 3G phone that was unlocked and moved from TMobile to AT&T, or vice versa, has to live with 2G data speeds on the other network. Is this the case in Europe too when switching between carriers or moving between countries? Or has 3G data been standardized there?
I would not recommend the Tattoo simply based on it's resistive screen.
The HTC Hero is the best Android offering so far from HTC. If you can get your hands on a HTC Magic 32A version it's just about identical hardware-wise to an HTC Hero.
HI guys,

My advice is that if you prefer the Magics look, get the Magic.
However, you need to be a little careful as there are essentially two versions of the Magic. One of them has 288mb RAM (same as the Hero) and the other only 192mb RAM. I would avoid the latter if possible.
Other than that, the only other real difference between the Magic and the Hero (given that SenseUI is now available for the Magic) is that the Magic's camera is 3.2MP vs 5MP on the Hero. However, this isn't really much of an issue as both cameras are pretty naff to be honest!
Any ROMs you find in these forums are for Hero only - you should never try to flash a Hero ROM on a Magic or vice versa. Note though that many Magic ROMs are based on Hero ROMs, so it is quite common to find Magic ROMs with "Hero" in the title.
Regards,
Dave
Hero is surrounded by Black Magic and White Magic!
foxmeister gave good advice.
Hero has also got a 3,5mill audio jack.
I used to want the magic too because of the looks. But when I saw the brown Hero in reality, I have chansged my mind, because it looked so neat and cute. And the Magic looked worse than in pictures - you can't really notice those mouldy lines.

thanks guys, hero it is!!
just wondering can you access the root of the phone like a normal htc or is it like a iphoen where its locked down? thats what i dont like about the iphone is limited capabilities
also how difficult is it to unlock?
also consider battery life.
Hero's is much much better than Magic!
(talking about HTC Hero)
You can root the hero easy, flash whatever you like, the cooking community is just starting to find it's feet as things have been a little slow with the hero- kernel code only just released and all that.

Guys big thansk for all th advice
im now the proud owner of a hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cid and sim unlocked it, got modaco running which is cool
have to say this seems like the perfect balance between windows and iphone!
windows was boring me hence i went to iphone, but that was too restrictive, although very smooth.
Hero looks good for now!

Congrats!!
good choice, the more of us - the better!
As the title says i got both a HD2 T8585 and a desire now i figured you may want to know what i see between them.
I do miss HD2 bigger screen but then i do like an brighter desire screen.
battery in Desire is far worse than my nice tweeked HD2's but then that's running a xanny rom and newest radio.
HD2 cam with 2.10 driver pack takes better photos than desire atm.
contacts all link much smoother together on the android phone.
face book app on android work much bettr than the winmobile one.
The official F1 app will run on HD2 with a few tweeks but not on desire.
all in all its nice to have both becouse i dont care what you read both have strong points over each other !
My friend will be replacing his hero with a desire... It all comes down to which OS camp you yoke yourself to...
All my stuff is WM so for that reason alone I stay with WM devices but my mate loves android and sense and widgets n ****...
Others yoke themselves to iphone and the apps...
Do you swap out the sim? Have 2 x sims? or use just one as a phone and one as a pda?
Trying to picture how you use the 2 devices...
atm i have 2 sims but gota unlocked desire so i only using the main one.
as i stated above some stuff works lots better or one or other so i swap depending on my mood
For sure my unlimeted data sim will b in my HD2 this weekend for the F1 race!
Hello Guys
I lost my Nexus One and I want to buy a cheap mobile because I dont have money
I found HTC Dream ( G1 ) and HTC Tattoo at the same price
i want one that dont run like crap and roms work great on it
can you help me chose from them ?
and thank you
NOT DEVELOPMENT RELATED MOVED TO GENERAL
I would go for the G1 I think. It has a better screen, and official Froyo support meaning camera and stuff works in custom roms.
I'd go for the Tattoo, G1 has a crappy amount of RAM and internal memory which makes it slow as hell with new ROMs
I think in this period the best buy is the Xperia X8 (170-180€)...One of the cheaper capacitive screen phone on the market
Magic...you Will have a more big captive screen...3d and froyo fully working...and you have the support of cyanogen and a lot of more too choose...MAGIC ALL THE LIFE...
Sent from my Tattoo using XDA App
ZTE Blade.
Or failing that, G1
I would go for Magic but A32 with 288MB ram.
If you want the bigger screen and keyboard go for the G1. But know that it's a lot bigger and chunky. Tattoo has better hardware, apart from the screen, and is very nice and comfortable to carry.
But i;m not sure if you will be happy with either since you are coming from N1
Go for magic,white magic
Sent from my HTC Tattoo using XDA App
I think HTC Dream ( G1 )
