This question has been in my mind for a while. Is it worth it to flash a Hero rom ? I am currently running cyanogen 4.0.1, wireless tethering is working, Overclock is working as well as Term. It is also wicked fast.
My SPL is .00006 so from my understanding a "Perfect" SPL, although I have root. Maybe am reading the post dates wrong but I thought this would not work. The method I used was 1 click root.
I understand there are some issues with Hero on a MT3G but if i have root and a partitioned (FAT32/EXT3/SWAP) Class 6 SD, would you use a Hero? My personal feeling is wait tell the Official release comes out for the 32A so there maybe a bit more to work with.
I would appreciate any insight to this. Thank you for all your hard work this community is awesome.
My opinion is Hero roms are still too slow for the MyTouch. I have one of Cyanogen's roms and love it. Many thanks to Cyanogen and those that assisted. I have flashed about four or five Hero roms and they are realy nice to look at, and I can apreciate all the work it took for someone to get them to even run on the device, but still too slow for me. Just my two cents.
My thoughts
Ya that was my gut feeling, I am going to stick with this as "if ain't broke don't fix it" I may however flash my G1, just to see how it looks
I agree with donepate, most hero roms are pretty sluggish and a lot of roms have trouble with the MT3G. Upon wake up the graphics turn to poo and get pixelated and blurry. But this is only on some MT3g's, and on most roms. The only hero rom that has worked for me is Fatal1ty's hero rom, but It was too slow for me, I was spoiled by Cyanogen's roms speed. If I were you, I would stick with CyanogenMod 4.0.1 and just download a Hero theme. I highly recommend Ted's hero theme. Looks just like the Hero but without its functionality and there's no Sense UI.
Try one
I would suggest trying it and deciding for yourself.
Some people have the absolute opposite experience then what is being mentioned in this thread.
I for instance, am running the TF3D V3 ROM by Drizzy (Not even the newest ROM out there by any means) with a 32MB Swap (as auto partitioned with the RAv1.2.1 Recovery) all on a Class 4 SD. And find the speed no slower by any means.
The only change I have made is to reverse Apps2SD (IMO Apps2SD is not necessary on MT3G)
I am completely satisfied, have no graphical glitches, I do get the TouchUI Loading once when I boot, and maybe once every 2 days if I don't reboot.
The improvements that the Hero ROMS bring to the user experience of the device out ways the quite small
So I say, make a nandroid backup and "Try it out" it just might be "worth it"
I just installed Hero
I used Qteknology HTC HERO PORT from [1.79.482.3] 32b and you are right, the usability is worth the sometimes lag. I have used the overclock app and disabled the old school clock widget and performance is decent. I may try some others but so far so good
Edit: Why this is not released on T-Mobile is beyond me, if they want a truly customizable UI, Hero is that. I upgraded from my G1 which is still working great to a MT3G and to be honest it felt like a windows service pack. I had to bite my pride and tell my wife I love so she could have my G1 and I could not get shot.
My other feeling is that when Hero is released for the non-Google branded phones, these awesome dev's will have much more to work with and speed just may increase. I do not know as all i can dev is a few nasty ass skins
Beautiful!
I just loaded the ROM you suggested and it is night and day. Everting works and more importantly, its fast Thank you for the heads up. I think we have a keeper.
I'm running Hero on my G1 and I love it but I'm waiting till Oct when HTC releases some legit new hero for Magics before I toss it on my MyTouch.
Yeah I tried Haykuro/Dizzy Hero and it gave me BSOD (Blur Screen of Death) but evil hero 1.9 has been running smooth for me with 96mb swap.
I used to hate putting hero roms in my G1 cause of the lag but since then there has been a mass improvement in speed... granted its no Cyanogen but definitely worth taking a look at as it can be used in a daily basis now

No and yes , I am disappointed with the Hero Roms, but impressed with the developement of them. They are not up to par yet, but soon. The one touch root is very impressive, no more of the old skool style.
I am looking for the orginal mytouch ROM and SPL to put back on, can anyone direct where i can find them?

Couple things here. You spelled Sense wrong in the first word. And why would you post this in DEVELOPMENT?? Yea, its a Sense phone, but people don't want all the clunk. Slows down the phone a lot compared to AOSP, have you even tried AOSP?

no one forces you to download non-sense roms, its a preference, just like the car you drive, the brand of cereal you eat, the kind of clothing you choose to wear.
Which AOSP should I try which gives all the ease of SENSE ( Spelled correct I think), with 4G and stability of stock rom? If you can point me to one I would appriciate it.
My point was why not work on making a better SENSE ROM, that windows mobile people used to do.
Sweety no one forces me to download anything, its just that this sections says its for HTC while it seems like its more for AOSP.

HTC is a corporation that manufactures these phones.
The Evo was made by HTC. The Evo runs Android.
HTC made an interface to place over Android OS (Sense). AOSP is Android OS without the Sense add-on. Both are Android OS.
Now that we cleared that up, the dev forum supports both Sense and AOSP because both use Android OS. What would be the point of two different development forums, one for AOSP and one for Sense? There would be a good reason if it weren't for the fact that in the thread titles you can clearly see AOSP or Sense. Just use control + F.
Spotted this beauty on the latest post section on the xda app and I couldn't help myself. This is utterly brilliant.

Oh well. I hate Sesnse anyway.
Well I'm not even going to say most of the things that I want to about this thread, but I will say this.............OP: you ask what stable non-Sense ROMs have 4G? I run 2 that I know are stable and have 4G and they are Virus Airborne and Calkulin Evio. AND, they both have Sense features as far as dialer, lockscreen, keyboard, email, etc., just not the Sense launcher. I love using Launcher Pro Plus instead of Sense anyway, but prefer Sense for the other things so these ROMs are perfect for me as they are a mix. Also, these ROMs have .zips so you can make it all AOSP if you want...the choice is yours. So, search the forums for a change, and try out some ROMs before starting a thread ranting about stuff that you dont know about.....peace

New ROMS based on what??? We have HTC Sense ROMs for Eclair 2.1 and Froyo 2.2 and AOSP CM 6.1. What else are you looking?
Personally I hate visiting the other device forums because everybody and their brother has 'cooked' up another ROM (mostly just new themes or added favorite apps). IMO who has time to stiff through all the various ROMs and threads? I find it much easier to review 3 different ROM threads and try to help others than to try and go through 10 or 15 threads and seeing messages such as 'well this worked on this ROM but it doesn't on that ROM, why not?'
OK, I'll get off my soap box now...
I agree. Plenty of good variety in the ROMs we have.

There's nothing wrong with that actually. Sometimes it's a good thing because there are more people developing towards something greater. We have 1 or 2 guys doing all this work. There are some pretty badass ROMs for the more popular phones out there. If we had more people developing and cooking, we'd no doubt have something better than what we have even now.
Screw those giant phones.
But a little more ROMS would be cool, we just need more people with the Aria.
It's not a bad phone...hah.

it's not a bad thing that we may only have 3 roms, but they are actually good quality roms, not just thrown together, and they are constantly being updated, but it would be kool if they had more help with them. I recently rooted and installed CM6.1.0RC2, and only thing I'd say it's missing is Flash Lite compared to Sense. Wish there was a way to get Flash Lite on CM, sadly not possible. Still loving CM though. Might test Sense again when there's an official Froyo update from AT&T and attn1 has taken out all the bloatware.

It is not nearly the same. It is totally different. And, to get the new Sense, the code has to be released by HTC. Till that, there wont be a GB Sense Enabled ROM for the Wildfire.
Also, I am pretty sure with the release of the S, HTC will not conveniently forget the original Wildfire and probably not release any updates for it. Its basically an EOL Product now. Its the way the industry works.
After some monthes on the market every mobile phone is EOL. You are right!

Simply because HTC apps require a framework that AOSP ROMS do not have as it is power consuming and is slow.

As djdevine2 stated above, porting Sense would be very hard or even impossible. Sense is like a bug that crawls really deep inside the Android OS. Eliminating is it hard, I imagine introducing it would be also very, very hard.
And not to mention the possible Legal issues that could appear
maybe there is hope
It has also been rumored that the HTC Wildfire will receive the recently released 2.3 Gingerbread update.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Wildfire
This is just a rumor, but there is still hope.
Doesn't look so. If you look at the citation on that particular line, and, read that thread in another forum, there is nothing there to state that HTC has said anything about 2.3 on Wildfire. It is simply a speculative thread, and, points to CM7 for 2.3 on Wildfire.
"You can have your doubts about when your phone maker will finally get around to delivering an Android 2.3 update (March if you're with HTC, June if Samsung, 2017 if you're unfortunate enough to own a Sony Ericsson), but the smartphone dev community doesn't work that slowly. The guys who build custom ROMs just for the sheer pride of it have already begun work on delivering Gingerbread to owners of HTC's EVO 4G, Droid Eris, and Wildfire."
