What will happen with a low battery? - HD2 General

Hi!
I was just wondering what happens if you ignore the 10%-warning from the battery. What will happen to the LEO? Will Windows shut down or the device simply run out of juice?

if similar to my old HP Mobile, it might just run out of juice or shutoff at 1 or 2% charge. My HD2 has never been lower than 3% (and didn't switch off) so far so i really cant tell - i simply don't have the time to wait till its totally empty

It will shut itself off and likely go into a reboot cycle until it is dead completely. Once this has happened you will most likely have to charge the battery with a wall charger to get it to take a charge. The USB one will have no effect at all even though it says its charging. This is what has happened to my TP2 and the Leo should not be any different.

It shuts down properly on 1%
Then if you reboot, it just shuts down again.

This is correct, but, you shouldn't allow this to happen on a regular basis.

at 10 percent you will not be able to use flash of the camera ,all roming options will be closed only main functions will work

Exact. No problem unless you leave it for days without recharging.

Allright, here´s the news:
After the 10% marker I played several rounds Solitaire (and I´ve solved none of them btw... ). 5% marker doesn´t change anything, Edge-connection still working...
3%: Some bug I think. I went to the comm manager and put the phone into flight mode. At this moment the device froze completely. After softreset all normal...
1%: Lasted longer than I thought. No more Solitaire but display constant on (just tapped randomly through the menues). After 5 Minutes finally a high buzzing sound and Slide2Shutdown popped up (it´s a feature of EnergyROM 23544). So I shut down the device and plugged in the wall charger...
So in future I´m a bit calmer when the 10% warning pops up...

What do you mean by "automatic roaming"? Never heard of that.
For me all connections (Wifi, bluetooth, Edge/3G) work until the phone shuts down. There's just the camera flash that stops working at 20%.

Bad Battery! - Possible cause?

Hey guys,
First of, YES I USED THE SEARCH FUNCTION .
My battery life is absolute horrid right now, and I tried everything.
I tried out different roms, every radio, deleting programs, hard resetting tons of times. I even bought a new 1500 mAh battery but it was still crap.
Battery log says my device in standby mode with the screen turned of uses -70ma, when I turn my screen up it jumps to -320ma, and when idle on the screen for a few sec it goes to -200 ma, but when I browse through stuff again it goes to 3xxma again. When I surf on the internet it picks up to 450-500ma.
Now, this morning with the 1500 mAh battery fully charged I played a few games of XTRAKT, few texts, 1 hour of music listening and 10 minutes of being on Opera through a HSDPA connection. It was down to 45%.
This isn't the normal rate the battery goes down at right?
I use HDtweak to manage my connection and put it off after a minute so it isn't that I keep dataconnections open. I never use bluetooth or wifi either.
Could it possibly be that it's the charger of the device? I perhaps have the feeling that it doesn't put enough juice into the battery even though the green light led goes on to indicate it's full.
Some feedback would be much appreciated cause it's put me on the edge of selling my device, which would be a shame cause I'm really fond of it (except the battery ofcourse ).
Thanks in advance!
/a
P.s. I am from a pda background, so it isn't that I'm expecting too much of the device or comparing it to a normal cell.
May I ask what you searched, as there are 3 or 4 active threads on battery drain right now?
Hi
Had same problem.
Try to browse a storage card if its very slow You must format it and it will back to normal.
very strange but its working.

General battery drain yes, not the possible issue of a charger though. If I'm wrong I stand corrected. .

I'll try this, I have noticed that today my storage card won't be read by my computer, so perhaps this is a fix for the lousy battery issue.

Hi Antrak,
Touch HD has the longest battery life of any similar 'phone. See e.g.
http://www.pcauthority.com.au/News/1...-the-rest.aspx.
Either your battery is not charging correctly, as you say (try it via the PC USB cord?), or you have two dud batteries in a row (very unlikely) or you have a bug in your m/board. 70mA in standby is too high. It should be <20mA with only the 'phone on in standby mode, providing you are not moving from one cell to another all the time, and have decent signal.
One other suggestion. Drain the battery completely to zero, then recharge it to max. This should reset the internal battery meter. But don't do this too often, as it ages the battery faster.
If none of these work, return the 'phone for a m/board replacement undere guarantee.
I have the same problem... After charging for 10 hours, my batt shows 55% only.. and last 1hr on STANDbY!!!
IMAGINE! charge for 10hrs juz to get to use for 1 hr.. im disappointed by the batt.. im not sure if HTC is gona let me exchange with a new one or do I have to buy a new batt..
try check your sync..its active all the time or not..
if yes..
find the threat to make a fake account for sync, so you can active it manually.
so your battery will stand more longer,
about charging..
me also facing the same problem..
need to change it more longer to get full battery,
but
if i change in my car,
no issue
very fast
i thing charger issue..
but i bought original set..
??????????????????
Okay I've charged my HD through my pc with a USB cable and formatted my SD card like a other user said. Gonna see how it holds out today. It could very well be that some chargers have issues.
My experience with the Touch HD says that when charged with a USB attached to a computer the battery life is a lot shorter than charged through a wall socket.

This is always going to be the case. Quickest way to charge your device will always be through your wall socket and with your device turned off!!
Same battery issue.
i recently purchased a new touch HD (T8285 telstra version) and am experiencing the same horrible battery issues. it takes more time to charge it, than i get use out of it.
i've tried multiple batteries, and am in the process of trying different ROMs.

Indeed, here's an illustration...
Image1:
Charging via USB takes longer. Consumption and therefore charge current is erratic after the battery level reaches 50% when charging via USB on my HD. So the battery fills up to about 60% of its capacity by the time when the battery level is reported to be 100% and charging stops.
Image2:
When charging with an AC adapter this is not happening and the capacity is fully utilized. This is also quicker.

That's strange. For me it's quicker if the device is turned on. When it's off it takes around 8-10 hours to charge but when it's on it's alot quicker.

If your device is on there is always power outage especially with programmes running, whilst if your device is off, there is no power drainage so device should charge quicker.
What rom are you using? software installed?

Latest official rom with alot of software installed. But it doens't make sence to me either. It's logical for something to charge faster when it's using no power (off) then when it is using power (on).
Combine battery threads ???
Hi to Moderators,
There are now several threads on the HD forum on battery and charging issues.
Can these be combined into one place and stickied, so we can get a clear picture?
Current threads are this one, plus:

I have a gut feeling from what I'm reading, that HTC have had a bad batch of batteries or charger circuits in the HD - in which case the best starting point is to call their service points and ask for help/replacement, instead of spending lots of time on other remedies. The symptoms described have lots of commonalities, and the HD is normally an excellent beastie for battery usage.
Thanks for all your help, ladies and gents! Your work is much appreciated.

Heya,
Don't know what it is but my battery life increased a tad. Am running Dutty's X3.0 with the 1.32.x.x. radio. Watching a 1 hour xvid dvd rip (no conversion) in coreplayer on full backlight with no HSDPA on, wifi or bluetooth takes away 20% of my battery, which is acceptable.
Don't think it's the SD card format though, it might be that I never have the activesync process on anymore by setting it to manual update and closing it (it otherwise keeps running.)

Battery running out over night

Hey
My battery is emty every morning, and phone turned off. That is if the battery is under approx. 70-80% in the evening. Is it just a bad battery?
Anybody seen this problem before.

Do you turn on the "Microsoft Direct Push" ?
When this feature is turned on, I also appeared that you have encountered a similar situation, but only consumes 40-50%
where can i check that, cant find it!! I have spb 3

Look at your "Comm Manager"-"Microsoft Direct Push"
Found it. No its set to off, so thats not it. Maybe ill try a hardreset!
But thanks for the help

hello
i have the same problem for 2 or 3 months now and i did not find a solution.
i bought a new battery but it did not help.
did you found a solution?
marbon
There is always a solution
Your device must have enabled the "turn off device" timeout (aka suspend timeout)
Don't let your device check your emails too often (once an hour is more than enough).
Use Advanced Config to enable GPRS disconnection timeout.
Don't let TF3D check for webpages updates too often.
Don't let RSS reader check for updates too often.
If your device has Wifi turned on all night, check if it turns off while your device is in suspend mode.
And of course, carefully choose applications that run in background - some of them may prevent your device from going to suspend mode.
(suspend mode is the most power-saving mode)

Simply put your phone on charge and leave it like that for as long as you possibly can for as much of the time as you can.
Do not run a discharge cycle. Do not try to 'condition' the battery and as soon as you can recharge from an available power outlet.
I get 1.5 days from this and I would suggest that you should get the same.
78michel said:
What happen if you switch off your smartphone ( be carefull ....not suspend mode!)? Is the battery still draining?
Have you check the current delivered by your battery during your ''night stand by''?
The objective is to check if there is any extra leakage current in the main circuit board.

It should not be draining when it's off, it's should actually go up (happend to me).
Hi, i have had my TD2 for nearly 2 weeks and last night i had a similar issue, however my phone was not turned off it was in sleep mode.
Charged battery to full at around 5 p.m went and stayed at my girlfriends and when i woke up this morning the battery was dead, came home plugged in the charger and got no charging light.....oh dear i thought.
So i removed the battery and the sim blew on the contacts etc to remove any possible dust put it back together and now i get a charging light and all seems to be charging ok.
The only thing i did different yesterday was that i went on google maps for the first time and selected the use gps option so it was seeking satellites, when i exited google maps i made sure it was not running in the background.
Im just wondering wether it was still using power to search for sattelites as in my information screen in power it says i have had 8 hours standby and 10 hours 52 mins device usage and i know that is not the case.
To the OP >> Maybe check in your google maps to see if you have use gps selected?
I had same problem after I flashed my phone with new radio 4.48.25.13, after that I used some other raido rom and the problem was gone.
I had the same thing happen, but only once, it was after I was using a gps app in the evening, I had problems with it, it locked up and I terminated it instead of closing it, I assume the gps stayed on and drained the battery in short order.
Hi, no i have not turned the GPS in google maps on, so thats not it. Still trying some different things to narrow it down. Its not every night now, so maybe i have been lucky.....
Same story here...
In my case even worst. I got my TD2 last friday morning. The same afternoon I inserted a new microsd card with zorro-gps installed. The day after, while I was driving with the gps turned on, the phone died. I've thought it was running out of battery, but when i plugged the charger in, I could not see the red led turn on. So I had to remove and reinsert the battery in order to see the led work properly...
Unfortunately from that point the phone is not working properly anymore. While in use it dies and I cannot restart unless I remove and reinsert the battery. The problem is that this happens every 10 minutes...
I'm trying to contact the HTC support, but they are very elusive. They asked for my phone number and they said will call me back...
Did you guys try to change the batteries and see what happen?
No, didnt change the battery. Because its not every night i dont think the battery is the problem. And further more, it began about a month ago ( td2 is approx. 3 month)

Battery not charging to 100%

Been running Android for over a week now and this morning when pulling the phone of the charger I noticed it was only at 89%. This is from a full overnight charge.
Got to work and it had dropped to 85% (Watching videos) and plugged it into my laptop at work and it again only charged to 89%
Anyone else had the same issue. Will cut back to Windows to see if it goes further.

Hello dude!
Try removing the battery, wait a few minutes and put it again. See what happen.
Sometimes it is a error when the driver is "reading" the battery settings/status.
Hope it help!!
Same with me, only 90% with all night chage
Same here mine will only charge to 93% while charging overnight
Rebooting into womo and it then proceeded to charge to 100%.
Not a major but a bug that needs investigating.
also had this issue a user responded to me on the builds thread, he said to let it run down to 5% and plug the charger back in. also the one about booting to wm then back on android should fix it.
Same here at 94%. Seems to be a common problem...

I've heard that no Charging-Stop exists (in kernel), so you may "destroy" your battery because it is overcharging ... so be careful
mine stops at 93%
yeah im a bit scared for my battery...ive been charging it almost twice a day now cause it dies so fast
i even have SetCPU with the profiles from the other thread, but its still draining REALLY fast...
i hope this doesnt have any permanent damage to the battery :S

The no stop sounds like complete nonsense. For one, it would be an obvious massive problem so the devs would have worked on it. Two, if you can detect battery charge it would be really easy to make it stop. Three, if it didn't stop, why did it used to halt at 98% for most people?

I have the same problem. HTC wildfire.
Try recalibrating the battery:
1. Turn off all uncessesary apps in the background.
2. Let the battery of the phone run out until it turns its self off.
3. Take out the battery for 2 minutes
4. Put the battery back in and charge the battery until it is fully charged "At least 4 hours"
5. Once it has charged take the battery out for 2 minutes then put it back in and boot the phone up
I managed
The phone was on and charging all night and it was at 97%. I turned off the phone and left it plugged for couple of hours, on and its 100%. Simples

is this the battery or the phones issuse?

Hi everyone im new to the forums and recently got my note 3 last week on Thursday. I have the Tmobile version.
When I charge the phone when the device is completely turned off and it fully charges and the red LED turns green, I turn on my phone and my battery percentage shows 99%, but if I charge while the phone is on then itll charge too 100%.
Another issue that I am having is that my battery dies qquicky. I don't know if this has something to do when I first got the phone because I didnt charge it once I had got the phone and once I did get the phone I factory reseted it so that I could go through the initial setup (you know the menus that tell you to put your language, wifi, gmail etc.)
I have everything turned off I have my brightness always set to 0 I don't use auto brightness. I only increase the brightness when im outside in the sun. I have auto syncing completley turned off I only have notifications from apps such as Facebook, instagram and other apps.
I Don't have anything running in the background nor do I have any wakelocks happening.
My battery life right now is at 85% I was using the chrome browser since this morning starting at 7:10am its now 8:48am. Im a heavy user I guess because I use the web Brower a lot. On the second day that I had the device I was using the web constantly it total time was 8 or 8 and a half hours with 5 and a halfs of screen on time.
I really don't wanna go and exchange the device because this is the only issue that im having and I already have everything that I want setup and am accustomed to this phone but if its the devices problem and not the battery than I have no choice but to exchange.
Im hoping that you guys on xda will be able to help me out thanks in advance

hmm from my opinion of it is when u charge a phone which is completely off. after you fully charge your phone and unplug the charger it takes more energy to power on the phone. Therefore it is recommended to charge by not switching off the phone or running any apps or games while charging it and let it charge.

It is normal. The GN3 drop from 100% to 99% very fast compared to the GN2.

I let the battery die down to 1% lastnight and then turned it off b4 it turned itself off. But I read that it was bad to let the battery die down to 0 though.

its normal. its a battery protection method i first saw in S3 if i remember correctly.
the usage you mentioned earlier seems reasonable to me. you will need to use the phone longer to get an idea of how much battery certain apps will take.
BTW, you can use reading mode to reduce the battery drain even further.
to do that, click on the more settings icon in notification drawer, long press the reading mode icon, turn it on, press the pencil icon then select the app or apps that you use most with screen on. you will notice that the screen gets a red tint when u use this mode, but for me it does save a bit more battery than normal mode.
i use it with whatsapp, music and chrome.
hope that helps!

Looks normal to me. My N3 decreases quickly from 100% to 90% then decreases slowly.
I'am not an heavy user : a few calls, a few sms/mms, facebook, twitter, web thru apps like magazine or flipboard, calendar and task usage, mp3 (around 20 min), no gps or location (only if needed), phone mode at night in order to use alarm on morning ...
My N3 lasts 3 days (last time was 3 days et 8 hours !) where my N2 was down after 2 days or less usage.

Bettery indicator is wrong on dm98 smart watch

Lifetime of my dm98 (lem4?) watches is about two days, that is nice. But the battery indicator shows ~50% by the time the battery is drained. It does not freeze at any level steadily going down to 50% and powers off then. Charging starts with 1% as it should be, but it is what one sees before android is booted.
Is it just on my device? Anything I can do to make the indicator showing the real battery level?

Not if in battery saving mode in location settings. Anyway to calibrate battery correctly you to to charge to full. Then leave the screen on until DM98 shuts down. Should run through from 100% to 15%warning and down to 0%. Then charge again and you should be right. Adrian. P.S you can play a movie the whole time to speed up the discharge. Adrian.
uninstall google play service and the battery indicator % work fine. it turn off at 0% always!

it's true! Make a test! If that's not true I'll give you permission to get around. You must first reset and do not enter the playstore anyway, otherwise the google play service is installed in secret!

this helped me, thank you
I've got DM98 guys its great actually..i was looking for compatibility of earphone or headset is anyone of you already tried compatible earphone or headset..?plz help..any Apps may be to be use..?
my dm98 simply does not load.
With the loading and on the screen only the logo to load appears but it never ends. I press the start button and only the word "Smartwartch" appears on the screen and then it goes off.
DM98, 2,2" screen doesn't accept the SIM card.
When started with the SIM inside, the first screen is the numerical keyboard reuesting the SIM card PIN input. My card has no PIN code!
I can't skip this screen.
Additionally, because it's the second hand purchase, I have no factory code for resetting the device.
Any advice?
regards
Chris
