viewing battery power via bluetooth? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Windows 7 lets you browse files on your phone via bluetooth and place calls via bluetooth, among other things, but would it be possible to make it tell you the battery status via bluetooth? I mean, I look at my computer screen much more frequently than I look at my cellphone screen and if my computer could give me popups when my battery is getting low, that'd be pretty nifty, I think.

Toyotas built in Nav reads battery from any winmo and others too like BB

USB Phone via telnet?

My Trinity has VoIP available but nonetheless - as far as VoIP is concerned - I would like to just use it as a USB phone connected to my PC. It connects through USB so is it possible to use it as a VoIP handset?
I have already searched a bit on this topic, and have found that just using the ActiveSync connection won't do the trick since one cannot access the mic/speaker through USB, only data transfer as files or sync...
But I know of other client/server programs that do some telnet stuff over the connection, in order to transfer keystrokes, mouse and screen data. Would something similar be possible for what I have in mind? I just hope that the overhead or lag would not be too much. And I know for sure that other people would also like this feature
Anyone willing to give it a go, or know of an alternative?

Bluetooth - Medieval & Ubuntu

I am trying to determine if you can send/receive files over bluetooth, between a Magic and a netbook running Ubuntu (9.10 specifically). Bluetooth works on both devices with my headset. Both devices can see eachother during discovery. Other than dealing with that absurdly short pairing timeout and the lovely 6 digit PIN I can get to the "Paired but not connected" state.
However all attempts to send or receive files, initialed from either side fail.
Does anyone have bluetooth file transfers working between the phone and a computer running Ubuntu (both directions), and if so how (what setup, what app, etc)?
I like ubuntu,too.
why don't try wi-fi.
I use the "FTPServer"(app download market). Send file to my G2 almost 1M/s
gtalk to me,talk about Ubuntu .
I notice that I cna't get bluetooth to conenct with my ubuntu netbook.
wifi tether won't obtain Ip address either.
Wifi works fine. It is somewhat the principle of the mattter, and somewhat if I am already using bluetooth to pair with my headset, why run another power draining radio to push or pull a small file to/from my netbook.
I have wifi FTP working. Also have Wifi Tether and use it all the time. I guess I am greedy... want bluetooth as well. It should be possible once I sort out what the issue is.
Status update
After installing gnome-user-share and allowing Personal File Sharing->Share Files over Bluetooth, and unpairing and repairing the handset yet again I now can push files from the netbook and the phone. I cannot browser either device remotely and pull files though.
So it is half working. Does anyone have both push and pull working?

remote pc monitor software?

Hey, is there any software that I can run on my tilt 2 that will let me monitor my desktop that's connected to my home network? Like, i connect to my network and then I can see my desktop's stats, cpu speed, temp, memory usage, etc, live in real time! Anything like that around? Thanks.
Remote desktop is the only thing I can think of and it should already be on your phone if not google it
remote desktop or zoomvnc work well for me...
I tried using it but it's over kill for what I want to do. If something like this doesn't exist then shouldn't someone make it?
T2 Remote Touch
Try this, I got the paid version worth 10 bucks, can transfer files to/from pc and can control my pc remotely, I love being able to turn it off since I forget and saved my pc during one of our wonderful Florida summer thunderstorms

[info] Just got my TF101! Gonna mount it on my dash.

I got extremely lucky today when I walked into a local CanadaComputers and they happen to have two 32GB TF101 in stock after the rest of their shipment sold out the day before.
I want to build a nice mount and put it somewhere on the dash. Has anyone thought about such a project?
Hiding the cables won't be an issue. I'm going to mount a 300W A/C inverter inside the centre console and cut a piece out the back (facing the back seats) and put a small plastic or metal grate for air flow (the fan exhaust on the inverter unit will face the grate).
Will run two USB cables through the transmission box and through the dash to where the mount will be installed. One for my Captivate and the other for the tablet. The Aux port is also in the centre console for music and video purposes.
To my understanding the tablet requires a 5V/1.2A source to charge with the tablet sleeping. To use the tablet while charging, 15V/2A is required? I'm not 100% sure. There is a 12V DC port in the centre console that is only active while the vehicle is running. The tablet can charge while the vehicle is running and run on battery power (sleeping) while the vehicle is off.
Internet connectivity will be tethered from my Captivate via Mobile AP. It works *decent* but for apps that require a consistent connection often disconnect between coverage sites. I hope LTE fixes this problem.
There are some limitations but I think I work around them. Such as Always On. When I'm running Google Maps on the tablet it will still sleep. I want it on at 100% brightness while the car is on and I want it to sleep while the car is off. Kind of like how Windows 7 has power profiles - one when A/C is connected and one for battery power.
I also want the tablet to automatically connect to the Captivate when in range. Does the tablet search for Wifi connections even while sleeping? By the time I open the car door; I want the weather widget and my Gmail to be updated. I want Maps working with a data connection. Everything automated.
Voice is also a HUGE bonus with this setup. I tested it today - works very, very well. My only quibble is the voice input button on the home screen is so tiny. I need a widget with a nice big voice input button so I don't have to turn my head off the road to look at the screen.
Oh and the reason why I don't want a 3G model of the tablet is because when LTE goes live in Canada it's promising up to 150 Mb/s downlink. I don't want to be limited by the tablet's radio. 802.11n supports ~300 mbit. When I upgrade my Captivate to a new LTE phone (probably around Xmas 2011) I can tether to the tablet with the higher speeds without a hitch! 3G is so 2010.
I'm so hyped this is gonna be AWESOME when it's done.
Give me ideas!
Of course you buy a Garmin GPS that is more accurate, and has weather, traffic, gas prices, car mount, etc and works when there is no Wifi signal for $200.

He might as well be saying "why buy a transformer if you can buy a netbook for 200"
This sounds like an awesome project, I'll look forward to seeing your updates. Tasker might be a handy app for this.

No, they have screens you can actually see in daylight unlike a tablet.
As for the rest, if you was watching movies or using the USB host to run your coffee warmer while driving please stay away from me. Heck, if your talking on your cell phone and driving stay away from me.

Watch movies, browse web, check email, lose control, skid onto on coming traffic, kill yourself and kill others. Superb idea.

Because only the driver could ever want to watch movies or browse the web. Checking your mail in the dunkin donuts parking lot is also ridiculous and dangerous and will kill everyone.

Why are you all crapping on my thread?
I practically live out of my car because of my job. I use to do everything off of my phone and Zune. But the displays are too small. Yes this includes watching movies on my phone while waiting for some tests to complete (which can take hours). I use my phone for GPS and Google Maps (I don't use standalone GPS units). I drive long hours and spend a lot of time away from my home.
My laptop is good but is a hassle to set up. Personally I find navigating a tablet easier than navigating a laptop using the mouse pad. Using a laptop while sitting in the drivers seat is cramped, too. It's so annoying that I usually browse using my phone rather than my laptop.
The tablet can potentially replace the need for a Zune, GPS and laptop (for browsing, email and multimedia purposes) in this scenario and its functionality and performance will only improve over time.
You're telling me this isn't a sweet idea?
I was hoping to get some more thoughtful responses. If anyone has any answers for my initial post - regarding the AC requirements for the tablet - and how I can automate tethering, please share.

If you have wifi set to on at all times and the network is remembered, it will auto connect when in range. Regarding the power, you'll need 2A 15v to charge it while it's awake. The USB cable supplied however doesn't deliver enough power and can't be used with a car adaptor for USB, you'll need to have a converter to use the wall charger for the tab.
Not sure about the other things though.
Take a look at thsi Youtube video below. The day the Ipad 2 was released, this guy mounted one in the dash of a new F150. Custom fiberglass/bondo work to rebuild the console to allow the docking directly in the dash.

Not legal in some US states, I have no idea about Canada.

I guess some people don't read threads. Idiot.
Some people just have to come and **** on everyone's great ideas and dreams. Personally it sounds to me like this can make your life easier, and more awesome. Post some pics as soon as you have them!
I have the same project in works, I am using a Pro Clip and pad tap to accomblish it in my 2007 bmw 3 series. I have both the parts ordered and in transit, will mount this saturday and share pictures if u are intereted. The tethering would be done with my HTC evo using the sprint 4G network and to avoid the wires mess will be using blackberry bluetooth gateway to connect to car stereo.
Gonnaaa be shiccccckkkk.
You don't need Wi-Fi to get GPS to work like some idiots are saying, only if you rely on Google Maps. Even if you want to use Google Maps, you can tether up the Transformer with your phone.
I mounted the TF to my vents, shot a video few days ago

Fast Charge While Connected to PC in "Photo Transfer"?

Hello.
I want to be able to have my phone connected to my PC (such that I'm able to use AirDroid or something to control it for recording video, and that I have access to the newly shot videos on my PC), and not lose too much juice along the way (I need it to be connected in this way for pretty much all work-day - about 8 hours straight).
I should also mention that since I have the Dual Sim variant, I can't root my device
One thought I had was to purchase a usb-c splitter/Y-cable/hub (something like this or this) and connect a wall charger and the data cable. Would that work?
Any other ideas for how to get this done?
I think there's still the old usb3 power limit of 0,9A while transferring data even with usb-c.

Even if I use something like the splitter idea?
Also, what's the max voltage, then? (I don't actually need fast-charging speeds, I just need it to charge fast enough to balance enough of the power draw from the camera so the battery won't die within 8 hours of shooting video)
I almost always use wifi, even for bulk copyjobs. Then the phone will charge, though slower.

The problem then is that I can't use AirDroid to control my phone (and TeamViewer and Vysor screw with the display in the camera app, making them an even worse option).
Total Commander with FTP and Samba Plugins.
In former days i used MyPhoneExplorer on the pc and it's respective plugin on the device, but you can't use a NAS then.

From what I found, it seems Total Commander is just a file explorer. I need to be able to control my phone from the PC. This is my biggest problem right now, because the only option that really works is AirDroid and it needs to be connected via USB.
I handle everything directly with the phone. Cloud access is also possible via TC.
And probably interesting to you, the wifi transfer plugin. Seems to establish P2P connections, but i never tried it out, fespute having it installed.
Before that was MPE and during my first experiences with Android i also tried Airdroid. The procedure to establish a connection, and Airdroid should primarily be a wifi app, was a PITA and shortly later with MPE i could achieve the same & more and quicker, so Airdroid was forgotten.
Data transfer via usb and full charging at the same time could be possible with USB PD and either via usb data lines or a Thunderbolt connection.
USB PD is establishing as standard for phones, but i doubt any of the current high end devices has TB. IPhones maybe.
Here we have USB 3.x with Quickcharge3. And i can do wifi bulk copies w/o running out of battery when connecting the G6 to a mere QC1 charger.

I'm not sure how that's relevant for my issue. Again, I'm not just looking to copy files, I'm looking to shoot video - that's a far more battery intensive operation. Also, I cannot handle things on my phone. I need to control it from my PC.
A wifi connection and a proper QC3 power source should at least keep the current battery state, as the power limit of the phone should equal the max charging current.
But i can't recommend any apps for this task, but it's much like media streaming or casting...

One more time: a WiFi connection would work for transferring files but my main issue is that I need to control the phone from the PC, and I haven't found a way to achieve this without a USB connection.
Yup, that's the missing link, a remote control and streaming app for the camera.
I can fast charge on my laptop but mines a Dell g5 gaming laptop it's fast charges Thur the thunderbolt port
Sent from my V60 ThinQ using XDA Labs
Interesting. And does it fast-charge also while in Photo Transfer mode?
