I have just got hold of a HTC HD2 that was on the T-Mobile network.
It was supposed to be unlocked but when I turn the device on , I still get the T-Mobile banner
Also, when I go into change the networks, it only lists T-mobile, no Orange listed. Also, 3G option is greyed out!
I currently have an unlocked Touch Diamond 2 with v6.5 on it with no issue and can do all of the above
The HTC HD 2 does seem locked down on the T-Mobile network
Anyone got any advice??? Thanks
unlocking the network wont alter the installed rom in any way. The tmo rom will by default be trying to use the tmo network settings (including the tmo proxy).
Personally i'd try the following
1 - settings - menu - all settings - connections - connection setup
or
2 - do a hard reset and let the phone pick up the connections from your orange sim
or (my personal choice)
3 - flash a non branded rom and let the phone get the settings from your orange sim.
The T-mobile ROM doesn't have the connection settings like the wwe rom.
I think you'll either need to flash the wwe rom or change the connection settings manually.
Does the phone pick up a signal at all? it sounds like it could still be sim locked?

part of the ROM, won't change because you unlocked it

Confirm.
My workmate had the same problem. Got unlocked HD2 (ex o2) and started using with Vodafone SIM. He couldn`t get 3G working at all (txt and voice working properly). Flashing new ROM helped. 3G working on 1.66 WWE stock and all the cooked ROMs we were dealing with.
After flashing new ROM, put your SIMcard in, and at start you will get a list of about dozen carriers to choose from, pick yours and the phone will download itself all the settings required .

Have had my wizard for a couple of weeks now, when I bought it, it had the O2 software running on it, its branded externally as an O2. I upgraded the ROM last night but i have noticed that the phone (as before) still thinks it is using the T-mobile network e.g. when i tap on the signal strength indicator or a message comes through, it indicates the t-mobile network. I can receive and make calls as well as text messages and voicemail on the virgin network no problem. After doing the rom update last night i indicated that i was on the Virgin network when prompted when the device was initialising.
So how do i get rid of the fact that my wizard thinks its using the t-mobile network when its actually using the Virgin network. The phone is branded externally as O2? How on earth did this t-mobile identity survive the ROM update. Note i applied the I-mate ROM.
During the ROM update i left the sd card containing the previous ROM image (O2), a backup in case things went wrong, in the device. I noticed that a little after i ran the imate rom update from my host pc a message appeared on my imate mentioning something about the fact that there was an SD card containing a rom image and if i wanted to use this. It was very late and by the time it registed with me what i was looking at the message timed out and the rom update continued. Could this explain the reocurrence of the t-mobile wording. When i reset the device the imate splash is what i see.
Currently:
ROM version 2.16.9.1 WWE
ROM date 2/6/06 (6/2/06 here in the UK)
Radio version 02.07.10
Protocol version 413.1.03
ExtROM version 2.16.9.101
Thanks for any help
Fergus
Virgin is a virtual mobile operator and uses T-mobile's network. Its common for T-Mobile to show up as the carrier on many mobile phones.
Roaming indication after upgrade
Hi have the same problem.
I have a T-mobile (US) phone; I upgraded the ROM (Qtek test ROM) and since then, the phone shows that I am roaming into Cingular network.
In my area (San Francisco) - Cingular is the actual network operator; T-mobile uses Cingular's infrastructure as part of a deal made long time ago.
So, the ROM is correct but I wish there was a way to disable the ugly triangle (showing that I'm roaming) or alternatively - let the phone know that I'm parked in a "home-network".
Ah thank you for clearing that up. By the way is it true that virgin has been bought by NTL, someone mentioned this today. Not sure who is worse NTL or Virgin UK.
Do you know where i can get the settings for MMS and GPRS, have not checked if they have been set up properly.
Many Thanks
Fergus

it's true...
The operator logo in the dialer does not automatically change when you switch networks / sim cards.
It depends on the image file 'carrierlogo.gif' in the Windows folder.
I have an unlocked T-Mobile MDA Vario with an Orange sim card - this showed as T-Mobile until I updated the carrierlogo.gif file!
If you want to view the network you are currently connected to, go to Start | Settings | Phone | Network.

Have you tried another QTek ROM? Otherwise, it's a possible SIM-related issue. The SIM hasn't received an OTA (Over the Air) update telling it that it is connected to T-Mobile's local switch. Furthermore, you shouldn't be on the shared network anymore since the old GSM 1900 shared network was sold to T-Mobile in CA and NV as part of the Cingular/AT&T merger. I would think that T-Mobile has updated that GSM 1900-only network to broadcast only their MNC (Network Code) so any T-Mobile SIMs registered on the network know that it is a native network.
Dear friends
i have a unlocked HTC 8525 !! i am in brazil and can't get the sim card here working with my phone. i can see the sim menu and everything but the phone only says no service . i try'd to change the network under phone/menu/option
but i couldn't get it working , and the closest suppor for HTC is in Sao Paulo and im 600 miles away
Help me please
Hi DJFuscao,
I have an HTC Tytn that I regularly use in Brazil (Sao Paulo) since oct 2006.
I´m not sure if I will be really able to help you, but I´ll try to give you at least some information about my experience.
I believe that sometimes autodetect network does not work properly. You may try to change these settings:
- Settings-->(Personal Tab)-->Phone-->(Band tab)--> Select your Network type: change this to GSM
- Settings-->(Personal Tab)-->Phone-->(Band tab)--> Select your GSM/UMTS band: GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)
I have also experienced some problems some months ago when VIVO activated their GSM network. It simply stopped working, kept searching but did not find TIM´s network.
What I have done then:
- I have changed from Automatic Network Selection to Manual (you will find this option on "Settings-->(Personal Tab)-->Phone-->(Network tab)--> Network Selection".
- then I tried to click on Find Network on the same screen
- I chose TIM from the list
It has not worked at the first atempt because there were some different options for TIM on the list but it has eventually worked.
Another thing I would check is if it works with any other GSM carrier from Brazil. If you can borrow a SIM from some friend this could also give you some clue.
You may also find some specific information about HTC 8525 phones in Brazil on the link below:

Good luck!
im struggling to find information about how i can set up my orange branded HD with stock rom on any other network.
i have unlocked the phone using olipros unlocking service.
i have a 3UK sim at the moment and when i put it in it gets signal, i can make and receive calls but cant get internet which is the main thing i want to use this network for, i havent yet tried text and dont use mms.
i get a notification telling me network settings are not in the database and i have no idea what the settings for this network are and cant find them on three.co.uk and the setup wizard on there does not support my phone.
i would rather not change the stock rom as theres too many to choose from and i dont se the phone for much anyhow. If theres a rom that has all the settings already for most uk networks then i may consider it.
any advice would be helpfull as at the moment its useless having an unlocked phone as im still stck with orange and the rubbish signal and only 3g speeds in my area.
I'm a new Australian user to XDA. I recently bought outright a HTC HD2 phone from a Telstra provider promising it will work on Optus 3G network. Suprise!!! it doesn't work.
Can anyone show me how to unlock the Telstra use please?

The HD2 from Telstra is unlocked. Mine works with Optus 3G no problems.
What problem are you running into specifically? Does it say "Optus" on your home screen. Can you make phone calls?
I'm running the Telstra HD2 on Optus, although what they [Telstra] did in their ROM was to disable the auto config, the HD2 automatically detects your network from the information from the sim data. It can be done manually, although I couldn't start to tell you how to do that. I flashed a custom ROM to the handset so I wouldn't have to deal with that. So info on manual network config is what you ore looking for!
have a look at these
Hi, also got the HD2 from JB Hifi and used the following to get it onto Optus and to get rid of some of the Telstra bloat.
Installed the 3rd cab from this link and soft reset with the Optus Sim and it will detect the right settings and add all the Optus Internet and Zoo stuff.

hi i have a htc hs2 for t-mobile unlocked, i live in Canada and am using the rogers network , i cant seem to get my data connection to work on the phone. it asks me to login and put in additional info, would i be able to install a rom for the other hd2 leo section so it doent have t-mobile stuff on it. i basically want my data top work and it doesnt recongnize my current data connection, i can make calls just no internet except wifi. any help would be great. thanks
Sure you could flash a Leo rom but you will most likely brick your phone. You need to change the settings from the T-mobile internet settings to Rogers internet settings.
