Telstra HD2 - (Australian Users) - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM Development

Can Australian users please tell me which radio rom they're using and whether they've had any problmes with the one they use?
I'm currently using "Radio 2.08.50.08_2" and the person on the other side of the phone seems to fade in and out, so i'm always asking them to repeat themselves...
When that happens, I look at the phone and there's almost full bars of reception.
I've also tried Radio "2.07.50.27_2" but that sems to do the same thing.
Thanks guys

hi anish.. fellow aussie!
i forgt to mention that i'm using Optus in Australia (using Dutty's 1.5 ROM)... i actually did try using the 2.05.51.11 when i first got the the fone... didnt actually notice any problems in that first day or two.
There's been so many newer versions since 2.05 and i'm hoping that someone has used a newer version and found it have no problems.
i'm just praying the problems i'm arent hardware-related

I'm on Telstra and haven't noticed any issues

Hey,
I'm a high user of the next G network and I'm using radio 2.08 and I have no issues whatsoever.

Using Radio 2.08.50.08_2 and Miri's Version 6 Xtralite ROM on an HD2 bought from Telstra
SIM is 3G Telstra
No issues whatsoever - a clean ROM without Telstra's marketing straight-jacket, all radio functions (GSM/GPRS/3G/BT/GPS/WiFi) work perfectly, battery consumption minimal, Telstra's Roam works perfectly in other countries
In short, the best PDA I've ever had ... I like Acer's S200 very much as well, but its' hardware cannot access the UMTS 850Mhz frequency that Telstra uses in regional areas of Aus - the Telstra HD2 is hardware-unblocked for this frequency, of course

bobb
Unfortunately your problems is a hardware one. To have maximum optus coverage on 3g you need 2100 and 900 frequencies
The Telstra HD2 works on 850 and 2100, so you lose the 900 coverage, and can only run off 2100.
To maximise coverage you would need a new phone, or switch to Telstra
FWIW I've found the 2.07.51.22_2 radio best onTelstra so far (using stock HTC 1.66 wwe ROM)

t9193 from telstra
ozrom 1.60 6.5.5
2.08 radio
hobart tas
no problems at all, actually got better with all the latest
good luck

Agreed, of course. If you purchased an HD2 from Telstra, it is hardware-filtered for UMTS 2100/850 Mhz. Optus broadcasts for 3G on UMTS 2100/900 Mhz, so Optus 3G will not work in regional areas on a Telstra-bought device - both devices will work on UMTS 2100 Mhz in the larger cities for 3G
That said, Telstra 3G area (distance) coverage at 850Mhz is very much larger than Optus 3G at 900Mhz
If you want an Optus 3G HD2, use an HD2 from (say) a UK supplier - this will be hardware-filtered for 2100/900 Mhz. For Optus, a cheaper (much) and equally powerful device is an Acer S200 from a UK dealer
None of this affects the GSM segment (normal phone conversations) of these devices

Email - through Telstra
I have no problems using Telstra and either stock or custom ROMs - except for emails.
For the life of me I can only send/receive emails when wi-fi is turned on.
It will NOT send/receive emails when wi-fi is turned off.
So I presume it is some settings.....
At the moment in Settings – connections – connection – advanced tab – select networks...
Telstra Internet (top pull down)
My Work Network (bottom pull down)
Any good suggestions ppl?
Cheers
FG

I use both Telstra and Vodafone in Oz and the best radio by far is 2.07.51.22_2.
No problem with email either way.
Cheers

I'm using radio 2.08 and I have no issues whatsoever

I've found various differences between radio version on Telstra...but none of them are too bad really...

Telstra is a bad boy

Telstra stock ROM forces you to use proxy, with Telstra stock ROM you cannot untick the proxy. Telstra proxy blocks email sync unless you pay $7 per month.
Use other ROM, go to comm manager, menu, connections, you'll see "Telstra internet" and "setup my proxy server", untick "this network uses a proxy..."
In my case email works after removing the proxy.

Actually, I am using a "clean" non branded HD2...and as of last weekend have a custom Rom on it - although previous HTC ROM was good....but no email with either of them.....
Till now...!
Many Thanks....your solution worked for me

I'm using a Telstra version HD2 but on at&t 3G in the US. I am using radio 2.08.50.08_2 and haven't hadany issues at all.

Thanks guys
I forgot to mention that I tried switching the phone to 2G only before and the problem was still there.
I took into consideration the 850/900Mhz hardware issue at the time I bought the phone, but i wanted it so badly that i got the telstra one anyway because it's not often I venture into the regional areas where Optus operate their 3G 900Mhz system. Plus it was cheap on the telstra staff plan..
I flashed another ROM yesterday (Dutty's HG V1.2) that comes with the 2.08 radio - the problem didnt appear in any of the calls last night, so hopefully it's gone for good!
btw.. it's great to see other aussies on this board and their willingness to help out!

Nice to see people helping out. Yes the proxy thing is a problem so keep it unchecked

I think those that responded earlier were well-intentioned but your initial complaint had nothing to do with carrier frequency differences.
Personally - though I'm not in aus - I had horrible luck with the 2.08.50.08_2 radio, but much better with 2.08.50.05, which I am currently running.
If you look at the recent radios for our phone, you'll see some themes in the naming convention. Namely, 50., 51., and _2.
The 51 radios are NOT 512MB enabled, I know that for sure. I'm not positive on the exact difference between normal 50 and _2, but I know I get better performance, battery life, and audio quality with the 50!
In any case, that's my ramble, glad to hear you got it solved. If it comes back, just flash down to a different radio. Don't go before 2.06 if you're gonna use 'newer' ROMs, or your phone won't work!

I disagree with the " ... nothing to do with carrier frequency differences" section of your post
On the information supplied in the initial post, connecting to the internet for email transfer may well have been the underlying issue.
As it transpired, the poster doesn't much "venture" out of the city (predatory, carnivorous kangaroos, you know) so UMTS frequency in regional areas was not important

[3G] Cingular Woes

hey guys im using a jasjar with WM6 (and have tried with others) newest release and even all the WM5 releases. I have my 3G simcard from my shop now. I have configured the phone for GPRS/3G using
Add line: GPRS,3G
wap.cingular
[email protected]
CINGULAR1
Works like a charm .... for GPRS my phone wont display 3G no matter what.
I live in NJ and tried multiple areas such as elizabeth and middlesex. I have also tried manhattan and still no go. I spoke to customer service and had them re provision everything and still NO!
Then some clown says that the only phones that go on the 3G network are firmware locked versions of cingular phones.
now i have 2 universal same issues one is jasjar on is Qtek9000 and i have seen other cingular USA customers on the forums using a universal and on 3g...
whats wrong? its not even letting me see it much less connect to it all i see is "G"
ok after much findings and a lot of searches the jasjar has 2100 while cingular is using 850/1900.
will cingular every use 2100 or is some mod to the radio rom possible? prob not but...
So can anyone advise if its possible to mod the radio rom to make the jasjar support 1900 UTMS?
or is this a hardware limitation?
if same hardware i don't see why it wouldn't be possible
i mean the phone does connect to 1900 for other services in USA why couldn't you hack the radio rom?
Same problem here. I can't understand why there is not a radio hack. What a waste of a good phone.

You might already be connected and you don't know. From what I know, the WM6 can't show the 3G icon, it always show G icon even when connected to 3G.
Have you read this thread and tried V2 of the 3G Icon? THREAD: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293375
Please let me know if it works on yours. I don't have 3G SIM, but I do have Cingular. Thanks.
You cannot simply do a "radio hack" as that would be like putting a Dodge engine in a Chevy vehicle its just not that simple. Or a square box in a circular hole.
Also I believe the main reason is due to Cing/T Mo have no ownership in the 2Ghz spectrum (Sprint does though). T Mobile will be using the 1700 area for their 3G service which is brilliant as we will not have to colliding networks around the same specturm. However this begs the question on what will happen with unlocked 3G phones in the future.

The question is since the universal has 1900 and 2100 band, is umts being pushed over the 2100 band via the os or radio rom or even a setting in the registry. Or is this a hardware setting only.

Polaris Radio problem solved!!

Hi,
If your polaris having radio problem after flashing with any custom ROM (or even default) and setting the radio to Murata radio, then you can try the following solution.
The problem may include:
- you have strong GSM signal but you cannot make a call ( for example 1 success out of 10 trials)
- you cannot receive any call (dropping call) not on purpose.
- The battery power drains quickly (..few hours till a half day.)
- The GSM signal is not stabile (strong but kept frequently searching again for signal).
I have tried many ways, from flashing to original ROM and set to any Murata radios, but the problem still presists. Then I did the following.
1. Flash the polaris with any original ROM
2. Flash the polaris radio with the latest official radio version ( I just used the one that included with the official rom that I downloaded from http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=59&cat=2&dl_id=113)
3. When the phone is ready, go to the setting, the phone, and then the service. From there you will have two questions, then select the first question, and choose GSM instead of auto, leave the second question intact i.e. "auto".
4. Your phone will reset its GSM connection, and then just wait. It will display "G" next to the reception bar. Then you can test by making a call or receiving a call.
5. If you still have problem, try to disable the HSPDA or any 3G services.
In my case I have T-mobile, where in Europe it is claimed to work perfectly. Learning from IPhone 3g problem in US, where Apple and T-Mobile tried to blame each other, and looking back to "poor HTC support" I could suspect that HTC has not provided the (old) Polaris with "the right" 3G driver.
I hope it helps. Let me know.

I'm sorry I do not quite understand here ...flash official ROM and official radio? then what? can I then flash any cooked ROM? or ported radio from other device? Thanks.
i have an official rom 1.40.466.1 WWE with Radio rom 1.58.25.21 and also i had this radio and low signal problem since i got the phone, never had a good signal at home.
tried to set the band in phone settings to GSM as you said not AUTO and it worked like a charm. thanks a lot
Hi Deepthroat,
I just did it with the official ROM, (ROM version 3.13.405.0 WWE, Radio version 1.59.42.15). However, some reactions confirm that it also works for any custom ROM and Murata-radio. Honestly, I have not tried to any other combination, just give it a try on your current configuration.
Thus, you can skip step 1 and step 2. Just minor correction on step 3, you go to Settings, choose Phone, and choose tab Band (not service as previously posted), choose "GSM" on the "Select your network type", and leave "Auto" for the "Select your GSM/UMTS band" and finally OK.
In my case, now I still have my polaris battery fairly full even after one day. Before the battery already dropped to 50% or less in after one day.
Please confirm if it works, you will save a lot of desperate polaris owners....
thanks
I can confirm the band tab change: network type from auto to gsm and gsm/umts to umts 900+1200 + gsm 900+1800 as a solution to battery drain and poor signal related problems as written on the first post.
I'm using gullum's latest rom TF2D III with the latest radio rom 1.59.44.02.
My reception is excellent, GPS works good and battery drain is not dreadful.
About the fact that 3G is letting the battery drain very quickly.
This is not a problem, but it's just the way 3G works. 3G just requires more battery power to function.

It means that we can't use HTC cruise/polaris for video call ??
I bought the polaris at vietnam and then I used it at Indonesia using Telkomsel as carrier. before I have bad signal also after upgraded the rom to the 6.1 it became good reception for GSM connection but when I need to use the 3G/HSDPA connection there is no signal. (using Band selection )
I already upgraded the RADIO to 1.59.44.02 and the problem still the same..
could anyone help to give info how to activate the 3g connection ?
thx

As I understood, Telkomsel Indonesia has a deal with Siemens to implement 3G/W-CDMA(or popular with UMTS) but not yet HSPDA (http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/...n-contract-set-3gwcdma-network-telkomsel.html). The 3G/ HSPDA allows networks based on UMTS to have higher data transfer speeds and capacity, however not all countries have implemented it (this is commonly termed as 3.5G network). So I guess in that case, you should set the band setting tab, Networktype to "GSM" and Select your GSM/UMTS band to the one suitable to your operator.
The problem with current polaris radio is that it is still not efficient to distinguish GSM and W-CDMA networks that leads to many side-problems (stability, quick battery drain, not working camera and etc). Though, I have not tried, some of friends claimed that polaris can support perfectly video call. So you have to work hard to find the right setting for your net. provider.

Actually I just want to use video call. Oh...very sad to hear that..
so do you think it's the polaris inherent problem that we can't do anything..?
I just try all setting..and I try also other operator like Indosat and proxl and the problem is same.
When I set the Band selection to W-CDMa or auto, sometimes After soft reset, polaris detect the 3G network but in 3 second dismiss and change to GSM network in most of the time just no signal.
everything is ok when I select the GSM only.
so no other option ?

If I were you, I will do the following:
Telkomsel requireshttp://www.telkomsel.com/web/info_3g, in Indonesian)
1. your phone is 3g (fulfilled by polaris)
2. You have registered to 3g service
3. You are in the area where 3g is supported
4. You have sufficient 3g signal.
In addition, Telkomsel uses 3G / UMTS / WCDMA / 2100 MHz. So if you have met the requirements, just set "GSM" and "GSM+UMTS 2100" in your polaris band tab (phone setting) and don't forget to enable the HSPDA in connection tab. If it does not work, reflash your radio rom to latest official release:1.59.42.15.
If it still does not work try to use 3g service in another supported handset (nokia or ericsson), if it works then it is the time to sell your polaris (just kidding!!!).

Telstra HD2 on AT&T 3G in US | Best ROM / Radio To Use

I am going to be using a Telstra HD2 in the US on AT&T's 3G network.
After SIM unlocking I am going to flash another ROM as I hear the stock Telstra ROM sucks on AT&T.
Anyone know what is the best ROM / Radio combination to use on the Telstra HD2 for best performance (phone & data) on AT&T 3G?
Thanks.
You do not need to sim unlock the phone. It is unlocked. And the Telstra radio works fine if you know how to set it up. You will need to use HSPL and flash a new rom on your phone. You could either use a signed WWE version from europe or southeast asia or a custom rom.
I have tried five radios on my phone. Did not test for battery length. But all 5 including the telstra radio gave me the same reception and speed.
I installed the 1.66 rom from southeast asia. But its your choice. I would spend some time reading before you do anything.
I'm using telstras hd2 with duttys latest rom. I also tried Miri's and Artemis. With Miri's for some reason I could only get 3g with entering additional bands in the registry. One or two bars of H. With Artemis I did not try the reg settings, but could not get any 3g as is. With duttys all I had to do was enable 3g and umts in the settings and got 3 BARS H right away. Speedtested 1011k with 2 bars.

[Q] Vodafone AU on T-Mobile HD2 - 3G reception problems

Hey everyone
I just bought a t mobile hd2 and i love what you could do with it.
But im having minor problems with coverage as it keeps dropping from 3g every 5 seconds and it makes it hard to surf the net.
Im using it in australia on vodafone.
Can this be simply fixed by flashing a new radio? Im currently using v 2.10.50.26.
Or is it a hardware issue?
You could try a new radio, have you checked with your network to see that quality of service you can expect?
ye i used to have a htc magic and the coverage pretty good, it was smooth and didnt drop 3g connection as frequent as my hd2

I will suggest a 2.15xx.50 Radio as they seem to compatible with MAGLDR as well should you in future want to try Windows Phone or Android NAND.
Also the HD2 is a pretty badass phone when it comes to radio communication.
It has one of the best receivers so dropping 3G might not be an issue anymore.
But in case you still experience it..my bet shall be that you might have an internal radio defect. (MAYBE)

I'm having the exact same scenario problem and wondering if A new radio helped you >>>
vodafone AU
Hi, I've got a Telstra HD2 and I had similar issues when using a vodafone sim in Sydney. I changed my radio to: 2.15.50.40 and I get proper reception with android nand, wp7
Are you using wm6.5?
You need UMTS(900+2100) GSM(900+1800) frequencies for vodafone
Not UMTS(850+1900) GSM(850+1900)
Hey mate thanks for the reply
Yes the operating system is wm6.5, Do u reckon i need to change to wp7 ?
My current radio is 2.08.50.08_2 and I will be updating it tonight to the 2.15.50.40 and see how it goes.
As for UMTS/GSM I'm a bit confused, The seller's specs were
Band : WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM 850/900/1800/1900
I've read somewhere that vodafone uses in metro areas 2100Mhz and in regional areas 900Mhz?
Would switching to Telstra fix the problem ?
Again thanks for your help!

[Q] HD2 T-Mobile functional in Europe ?

Hi all
I've a litte question regarding HD2 T-Mous compatibility in Europe.
If I buy a T-Mobile HD2 (because more ROM, etc) can it will be used in Europe (France). I've read that T-Mobile WCDMA/HSPA is 1700MHz/2100 MHz vs Europe 900/2100 MHz, but I don't know if this is important.
Thank in advance.
Yes mine works...but not very well, it has a hard time keeping the signal from the network (tried Orange and Bouygues) and that happens regardless of the ROM (Android, WM6.5 or WM7) and I've tried several radios too.
I only used it briefly in the US with a T-Mobile prepaid card and it seemed to work fine, so...dunno, if you give it a try let us know how it goes for you, might be a problem with my phone.
Hi webvan
What do you mean by : it has a hard time keeping the signal from the network ?
You're taking about data or phone signal ?
CK+
Both, there seems to be a sensitivity issue.
Used my HD2 TMOUS a lot on 3Network, Vodafone, Orange, True, AIS, iKool in UK, Europe & Asia & 3g function has been perfect.
GSM & Edge obviously works good ...
I've used my T-Mo HD2 on AT&T [ I know that's still in the US, but it's a different carrier than the official one so I figured I'd count it], and 2G was fine. Watching videos on Youtube = slow, but webpage loading, texting, and calling was all fine. I also used it on FarEasTone in Taiwan, and it worked fine there as well. I only texted and called though, no internet there.
