The icons for all the programs that I've installed myself have changed to generic program icons. The original program icons were there before a recent soft reset. They work fine, but all look alike. What happened? They changed on the quick links too. I tried uninstalling one program and reinstalling, but it still has generic icon. Can anyone help?
Not sure what caused the problem. I think it happened when I tried to install the HTC eReader which didn't work. I uninstalled all my programs, soft reset, and reinstalled them. The icons are back. I hope they stay.

Hi,
Selecting my settings option from the start menu hangs my phone. All other options (programs etc are working).
Interestingly when I tried to setup an icon in iLauncher for say my today icon it just hangs too.
I am assuming the settings folder must have got deleted/corrupted somehow.
Any ideas?
Regards
I would suggest a hard reset. Anything you do to fix the problem will not guarantee that everything works properly. Many softwares use the settings programs and/or links.
Hard reset completed and appears to be working fine. Time will tell if it was Vito Button mapper or the registry entries I did which messed it up.
I have a problem with the htc hd 2, when you press the windows logo button on the bottom of the phone you jump to menu where all the icons are (such as installed programs icons and settings).
what happened is that all icons are missing except the today icon, how can
you bring all those icons back?
Also when you install a new program the phone doesn't make any icon in the menu. I have soft reset my phone with the reset button on the back but wouldn't work.
Can somebody help me with this problem?

I hope for your sake I'm wrong, but that sounds like a hard reset is needed, to me. Wait and see if anyone else has any suggestions, but that sounds quite a nasty problem.
I have got the same problem... any ideas how to fix it without hard reset?
I have two such icons .. HTC people and HTC calendar. It seems it has something to do with turning corresponding tabs off and on again.
Yes it would me nice to fix it without hard reset Any suggestions?

How do you turn the corresponding tabs off and on?
Another thing hhen you go to the setting en press menu on the right corner then press more then nothing appears/happen?
Settins / personalize / home screen tabs
And I can confirm it .. first I had no such icons. Then I disabled calendar tab. Still nothing. Then I enabled calendar tab. And THC Calendar icon with no picture (only default one) showed up in the start menu. Now if I remove the tab, the icons gets removed too. But as I enable the tab again, icon is back.
Same for HTC People icon.
Only tweak I use which could have something to do with this enabling all settings icon in start menu (via BsB tweaks).

I see what you mean thanks for the effort, but with these icons the htc has no problems, its with icons you see when you press the windows logo button, its a long list with all the installed applications. In this screen they all disapeared except the today icon.
Some help from anybody would be very appreciated?
Hmmm
I had the same issue.
Flashed 1.48 over it.
Havn't had the problem since.
Check this dudes thread for additional/replacement icons...stunning stuff!

Any other solution available other then updating my ROM...cause it's already up-to-date.

Additional info:
- I'm using a Dutch ROM (so "\Windows\Startmenu\Program files" is called "\Windows\Startmenu\Programma's" )
- It happened after a soft reset after altering the Led Notifications/Message Notification setting
(I think the soft reset itself might have caused it)
- I have been moving startmenu items around using my ActiveSync connection
All I've found on the forum thus far is: Hard reset your device...but I really don't wanna.
Damn, it happened again. I'm stuck with just the Today icon again.
For a while I thought: leave it be. With Co0kie's Home Tab I can access all applications I need.
But I recently noticed that I cannot access my advanced settings screen either... and there's no shortcut for that.
Too bad, nobody came up with a solution that doesn't require a hard reset or ROM Update (which basically means the same: Clean slate).
Anyone?
Hi Guys,
I'm having a little problem with my phone. After a lot of tweaking yesterday, I finally had my phone working perfectly. In a final change, I just tried to change the lockscreen wallpaper to a custom picture. I'm not sure what happened but, on restarting the phone, I'm getting:
'unable to start HTC Sense, tap here to try again'
and obviously can't get back to the home screen to change the wallpaper back via the sense settings although I can navigate the regular settings menu via the start tab and Sense is ticked in the settings. I've gone to the gallery and deleted the picture I assigned to the wallpaper but it's still showing when I restart the device.
Now, as I said, I've added a lot of cabs and made a lot of reg-tweaks and would really prefer not to do a hard reset if I can help it and have to do them all again. I changed the font on the device yesterday and don't know if that is related to the problem but I navaigated through the settings and removed that cab but still no joy.
Any help would be great, more specifically if I can restore the phone to earlier settings or maybe change the lockscreen wallpaper via the registry?
Thanks in advance
I don't know if this will work but try, windows, settings, (menu - all settings), today and unclick use this wallpaper as a background. You can also tab across and untick HTC sence and try restartng your phone
Thanks for the tip. I just ended up hard resetting anyway and everything's working ok now. I tried unticking sense but no joy.
Thanks
I think I've found the solution (at least before hardresetting):
Goto KHEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC
Just delete the key MANILA (back up to a file before you delete if you want)
Reset
I was sorting the start menu icons on my HD2 today and I now seem to have broken the HTC_Music, HTC_Calendar, HTC_Footprints, HTC_People, HTC_Twitter icons by moving them into a folder called HTC. After a soft reset ugly plain generic icons were automatically created in the root of the start menu and the ones I moved into the HTC directory were also reset to ugly ones. I tried copying back the ones I moved back but they still remain the same. Any idea how I can fix these broken icons?
Cheers,
Richard.
try this tweak:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila\IsShortcutEnable
Change to 0 and soft reset.
That happened to me, but I didnt change anything for that to happen. I dont use the shortcuts and that is was HTC Sense is for, so I just deleted them...was that a rash decision?
I tried the above registry edit, but it is just not working for me. The icons in the start menu are still bland icons.

after making the registry changes, did you delete the icons and soft reset?
How this issue started:
I created a couple new folders to better organize my Start Menu and to appease my OCD. I cleared the dead icon links from my Home tab, cleared Icon Catch and did a soft reset.
I now have icons in my start menu - that are active - that should have been moved to a new folder - which are also active. Strange.
Stranger still is the fact I can't see these by browsing in phone, computer, or with Icon Changer. They just don't show so I have no way to remove them by conventional means. They're like... Ghosts.
Anyone know how to get rid of these ghost icons?

If they are the HTC program ones, its a registry key you'll need to change.

Actually none of them are HTC apps. They are kinda random:
CleanRam (and config)
WebTV
SPB TV
Bananas
BsB Tweaks
CHT Editor
Omarket
JWMD Icon Changer
I moved all of these to diff folders, amongst others - yet these icons stay. Would this still be a registry issue?
And yes i cleared Icon Cache
