HTC Legend tomorrow at my office - Legend General

Tomorrow i have one, i am curious. maybe we will get more here for our users.

Legend arrived, nice handsome phone. because i always have windows phone it feels a bit strange. Need more searching for settings etc..
Can not find any file explorer, who knows how? Want to delete some shortcuts.
Sync with Exchange works pefect, but how to import my sms messages from MS Myphone or with some other tool(s).
Zooming in email works nice but is better with my HD2 because of the bigger screensize.
It is not possible to take the SD card out without shuttingdown the device because the battery comes out.
The overall speed is good, testing the internet but have some connection problems.

Congrats!
About importing sms or phonebook from your old phone you should use the given HTC PC Studio and config it to work sync with MS Outlook.

tell me about the performance of the legend!!! is it snappy and quick or it lags here and there ?

After a reboot connection probs solved.
Device is responsive very wel, no lag at all.
What is a bit annoying is that there are no pickup or hangup hardware buttons.

Hi ... quick question. Do you occur any sync issue with outlook 2007?

Browsing menus is not always smooth.

I have not had a single performance issue with this device , this s the best mobile i have ever owned ->>> Hands-down!!

A couple of pains...

Hello all
Right, so I've had my Wizard for a couple of months so far and it's struck me as a wonderful piece of miniaturisation. But I've found the OS lets it down - WM2005 tries to do too much and thus fails as the basic features, stability and user-friendliness. Anyway, bashing Microsoft isn't why I'm here today
I've managed to sort out most of the pressing concerns with the device, especially the sluggishness (fixed with a firmware upgrade from O2, my carrier). But there are a few things that bother me still:
1) When adding a new ToDo task or contact, the first field loses focus after a random amount of time, halfway through typing. This is incredibly annoying as I have to, after typing in thef first few letters, refocus the cursor at the end of the text to continue typing. This only effects the default (first) field selection, ie, the contact or task name.
2) When plugged into my PC, it appears as a network device. Fair enough, I can see the logic behind a phone being classed as a network device. What's annoying as that whenevr I plug it in, a network connection is set up which become the primary - overruling my LAN connection to the internet. Now I never use my phone as a modem, but I still have to unplug or disable it if I want to access the web or do other PC-based networking activites.
3) Hotmail. I can't believe this was built into the email client. How can it be removed? And can the 'Outlook' email be made to download email directly? It's completely pointless to have to maintain two email profiles for the same account - one for email received via Outlook and the other for directly downloaded messages. I need to reply to SMSs for them to be marked as 'read'. Anyone know if this is usual behaviour? Better yet, are there any decent alternatives to the messaging suite? I really loved the threaded SMS views of the Treo and its email client, but haven't found any PocketPC equivalents.
4) I'm really hating Outlook on my desktop - the only reason I installed it was to allow (half) my emails to by sync'ed. I've been yearning to get back to Thunderbird but have been held back by my phone. However, recently, I heard of something called FinchSync, which claims to allow Thunderbird-WM2005 email/contact sync'ing. Anyone used it?
5) Skype. I like Skype and would love to see it on my phone. I knew when I brought it that it probably wouldn't be able to run it and my tests (even if OC'ed to 252MHz) show that it doesn't really work (gets tantilizingly close). Yet I hear people claiming it works perfectly on their devices - I was wondering if there's a clever trick to this.
Phew - that's a load!
Thanks

I think this is related to way of managing mails. Outlook is build in acount fo handling sync'ed mail's and standard pop3 is for handlig popped mails. Actually I am not syncing my e'mails (my inobx on pc is larger thn my sd card ) but imo there is another way of managaging (ie. on my pop3 account emails are deleted from device when read and older than settins)

Hi savac
Thanks for the reply - I'm thinking you're right about the networking issues being on the desktop.
You got your Skype on a ROM - I downloaded mine from the Skype website. I opted for the 'low power' version, I assume that's the one everyone else uses?

myphone.microsoft.com

http://myphone.microsoft.com
pretty good service i thought what the heck lets try it out its free but it actually works pretty good especially with all the different roms we keep trying it out syncs it through data connection or wifi and it is pretty fast in it.
try it out
Yea its real good, expect for some of the contacts and appointments it makes duplicates, when you do a hard reset. But txt messages sync is darn good...so I dont use pim backup anymore.
Same here.
I've used it for about a month now and with all the flashing I do,
I wouldn't dream of using another backup program.
Great when trying ROMs . I really like the service. But the scheduler does not keep its settings, so I have to sync manually from time to time :-(.
i still use pimbackup only cause it also stores call logs...
Give Dashwire a try, it can backup call logs and speed dials too.
It's too bad it can't sync when your already connected to an exchange server via activesync
I own a Palm Treo Pro and Touch Pro 2 (Dutch).
MyPhone messes up the devices with double names etc. It also adds alarm notifications to my calendar. Last time I've used it was about 2 months ago, but I don't think that Microsoft has updated their Beta yet...
Can someone compare the two? I've been using Dashwire for a good long time now and am very hesitant to switch. I have every call/text logged since I installed the software. Pretty neat. Their online interface is super helpful if your phone dies and you need a number.

Does it sync or is it just a backup?
I need to sync with outlook AND Thunderbird and am using Funambol to my almost satisfaction. However, it does not sync My Documents (though the notes can be synched!)

SMSSync with Exchange 2010 Tests (2307x Builds)

Dear you,
First of all, i hope this is the right section. Since i'm talking about an issue i found on latest builds, i suppose it is. Moderators feels free to change section if necessary.
I've flashed yesterday my Touch HD trying 3 rom (all 2307x branch) and found always the same issue: when syncing to exchange 2010 everything works but SMSSync.
No way, the sms app seems broken, not only regarding SMSSend button but either SMSSync through EAS (well actually some of them don't even have the SMS native message app).
Everything worked correctly with previous rom (21xxx), i was able to sync and sending messages both from OWA and OL2010.
Can anyone confirm there are issues with the SMS? Any idea on how to solve that?
I know SMSSync through EAS is something pretty new, i'm just stressing that.
NB: I'm using Exchange 2010 RTM, and was working with 21000 branch, this means no issues server side.
cant be much help, but damn - didnt know 2010 RTM'd! i thought it was due in in the next week or 2.
either way - i've heard it's pretty good.
on a more helpful note - have you checked Technet? im sure theres gonna be plenty more people who are in a situation to test SMSsync than on here...
HTC Messaging problem
Stupid HTC. They've released HTC Messaging without even knowing what they were doing..
Actually HTC Messaging Application uses it's own service to deliver/receive SMS in manila 2.5. What's wrong? Well, defaults messaging app from windows mobile is needed as default's sms/MMS provider to deliver SMS to exchange server. Using 3rd parties providers completely removes functionality. I don't know how it works in depth, i'm not a WinMO guru, however after applying zenkinz 1.2 patch, all NEW messages started to correctly sync with exchange 2010. Since only new messages started syncing i belive the winmo default SMS Service writes somewhere what is in need to sync when a message arrives or is sent.
This is a shame: i thought from the first 2307x built the messaging app was completely broken, but it wasn't Microsoft's fault but HTC's!!! I spent a whole weekend about it!!!
Argumentative note: they've released the HTC Messaging along with WinMo 6.5 update: this means they're cutting out SMSSync feature from the beginning. I'm thinking to all those poor IT Pros which are buying an HTC to test sync functionalities. They will end up with an headache.
Please note: Zenkinz patch addresses SMS only. Applying this patch disables MMS functionalities.
You can find Zenkinz patch here (i hope cross posting is allowed this case):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614
Please, can any mod to put a [Solved] tag?
Thanks.
EDIT:
@veehexx: Unfortunately there was no technet to help me, i suppose it's an unsupported scenario. After all, i don't think it was microsoft intention to have it's SMS App completely rewritten by HTC!
I had to use a man-in-the-middle (better service in the middle, LOL) approach to understand winMo side activesync hadn't any knowledge of SMS received/sent.
Oh yes, this is really something I could slap HTC's face for.
How could they replace WM's text messaging and disabling SMSSync with exchange 2010??
I recently bought a HTC HD mini which has WM 6.5.3 and it was impossible to sync SMS until I used Zenyee 1.2 patch. Plus I had to install ArcSoft MMS. Otherwise no MMS could be send/received anymore after the patch.
It works now, but it doesn't feel clean. When I click on a text message in Manila it still opens HTC Messaging to view it. Only if I click on Inbox it goes to Outlook.
Despite all the good work that HTC has done for WM; with HTC Messaging they just overstated the case...
are u using Exchange Active Sync in wireless?
I've found another problem with SMS Sync, any rom, even clean one.
Sending SMS from Outlook or OWA just works 2-3 times before AS process on windows mobile hangs on sync. Soft reset is needed which sometimes means double sending SMS.
I've tried almost everything, disable T9, word correction, no way. It just hangs. I suggest to use SMS Sync to keep messages on your inbox only, not using send feature from anywhere but Windows Mobile. To me, it's something with Windows mobile.
just tried to setup our Exchange Server 2010 and my phone with activesync on wireless and it works like a charm
Randolph2000 can you please try sending some SMS from Outlook or owa using 2G/3G connectivity?
Activesync hangs to me after 2-3 SMS.

So, it would be pointless to write HTC support to fix this...
Anyway, I wrote HTC to include SMS Sync feature on the HD Mini in their HTC Messaging. Let's see what their answer will be.

Guess it's something wrong with some software which come with the rom. Looking on WPsupport forum, there seems to be some issues with predictive text feature, although disabling it won't help at all. I've tweeted the MSExchange Team to have a look. Let's hope something happens.

Windows 6.5 + Exchange 2010 SMS Sync

Hey everybody!
I presume there won't be too many people that will have had experience with the SMS sync feature, so I hope one or two people out there can help me.
I have the problem that everthing is activated, but it only synced the last conversation with my mate (so lets say 2 text messages out of a couple of hundred).
Anyone have an idea how to force exchange to sync ALL the messages?
Using a Touch Pro 2, in case that should help diagnostics move along a bit
Unfortunately i'm having this same issue. I would like to simply recreate the whole SMS/MMC folder in my Exchange box, but havn't found a way to force the behavior. I get the feeling SMS syncing was a last minute thought and not completely fleshed out.
As I said, strange thing is that everything that is coming in on the phone is now being synced...
all the messages prior aren't, with the exception of the 2 sms between me and my mate.
Gotta love Microsoft. Never gets boring....
Has anyone experienced any issues with syncing sms messages on the newer builds of 23xxx? Specifically I've noticed that when I send the messages from Outlook 2010, sometimes (not always) my phone gets really sluggish. The process activesync.exe starts using up tons of CPU usage. I'm currently using a HD2 using Kumar's ROM based on WM 6.5.5 b23569

I can definitely confirm that for my HTC HD Mini. It has a wm6.5.3 stock rom, i had to use Zenyee patch to disable HTC Messaging to get SMS Sync working, because HTC screwed up on that.
And I can confirm, that sending SMS through Outlook 2010 slows down the device and ActiveSync goes up to 98% cpu usage.
Any news on that? A hotfix or something?
Any solutions to this yet? I'm having the same issues + the issue that I can't send sms from Outlook but only from Outlook OWA

you need outlook 2010 to be able to send SMS's from outlook itself, any other version will not work, ive had 2003, 2007 and now 2010, and only 2010 does it.
also ive expirienced my phone being slow and useless when SMS syncing is enabled, its really a pain in the ass.
ive gone through 20 phones in the last 2 months, constantly buying and selling, its getting ridiculous, no 1 phone does everything i want.
all i need is full exchange connectivity (tasks and sms included), mobile office so i can use my spreadsheets, slide out keyboard, 3G, decent camera with flash. its obviously neither android, WM or apple can meet all those requirements.

new desire HD/android user

i'm about to get my new desire HD from orange tomorrow and i thought i better ask for a little advice.
as i'm upgrading from a touch HD the android experience is totally new to me, so i was hoping for a few hints and tips as to how to get the best from my new phone and what apps are going to be most interesting.
cheers
I've recently done the same (moved from a Touch Pro2). Main differences over WM you will find....
* Improved stability
* Improved responsiveness and speed
* Android app market makes obtaining apps and wider range of apps much better
* Overall a much more pleasant experience to use
* Battery life will be worse, but you can tune the device to improve this a lot
* Integration with Microsoft products is not so great although does support multiple Exchange profiles
An HD2 immigrant here
First of all you need to get used to the different logic of the system. You probably had HTC Sense on ur touchHD and when you see that the Sence in DHD is similar it's a bit leading.
The hardest for me was getting used to the fact that the "All apps" button is not "Start" and just brings u to everything that's installed ( no rearangements, no folders, no renaming )
Then comes the battery life. DaveTME was right that it sucks, but thats (IMO) only do to the fact that by default, every service u have installed is syncing all the time. If u tweak ur sync settings a bit u should get close to what u had in THD.
For further references you may want to check this out -> http://androinica.com/category/androidguide/
good luck and welcome

This is exactly what I checked into before I made the jump from Nokia, where the Ovi Suite (PC Suite) would sync with Outlook. The HTC Sync SW supposedly does this but I had problems when I got the phone and, if you search about a bit, you'll find others have too.
What I did was to install HTC Sync anyway but also to install MyPhoneExplorer (... http://www.fjsoft.at/en/ ...). This installs on the PC and, as you surmised, on the phone. Works fine for me. I'm using XP Pro + Outlook 2000 (yeah, I know, behind the times but hey .... it all works!). MPE also has a forum where the developer is pretty responsive to issues.
I also sunc the calendars but use Gemini Calendar on the HD (search and ye shall find ... ). Much better than stock.
HTH.
Oh, and remember that Android is Google, which means they intend you to sync through the *cloud* and not to your PC. Especially with Microsoft's products, which is why you need to go 3rd party. When you get your DHD, before you do anything else, go into the menus and put everything on manual sync until you know what's happening. Or you'll end up with Facebook, Google and Uncle Tom Cobbly's contacts all on your phone ...
Download the manual from here .... http://www.htc.com/www/userguide.aspx?p_id=324 ...

OiFilemanager or AndExplorer should both do the job
another quick question, and i know this will sound totally dumb, but i have to ask.
do i NEED an google account to use this thing properly??
i dont use facebook or twitter or any other social media, so i'm happy to sync with outlook as its got all my contacts in up to date, and to be honest i'd rather not give google any more of my personal details thani have to!
Yes you need a google account. Aslo you can import your contacts into your google account and sync it to your phone.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You do need a google account, but to be honest that is a good thing, the integration with Googles services is so tight. It provides the best email experience by a LONG way in my opinion, and the cloud features are fantastic.
Since switching to android i have also switched to a more "cloud" centric workspace, all my work is backed up to a cloud (2 actually!) and i keep copies of everything i need online aswell as on my PC so i can access it anywhere.
Its a shame you dont want to "submit" to google if you know what i mean, gmail is so, so slick.
*Spooky voice* It is the futuuuure!
I hope you enjoy your switch to android, i know i did!

unfortunatly i have an inherant distrust of "the cloud"

I'm with you on this one! You do have to set-up a Google email account BUT mine is just forwarded to my *real* email address so never use it for anything. I *assume* you may need it to buy apps. from the market but I've only downloaded free ones so far. Oh, it's *compulsory* to download Angry Birds, BTW, free on Android ...

How can sync my Outlook infos with Google Calendar and Contacts?
Get a gmail account, best out there. Just don't save your contacts to gmail. I got hacked from China and everyone on my email list got a virus infested email. Lucky I found out very quickly and told everyone before any damage was done.
As to sync. I just use HTC Sync downloaded from HTC web site. Works a treat
