Connected to router but cannot load webpages - HD2 General

I was at Macdonalds earlier today and there was free wifi with full signal. I connected but was unable to load webpages. There was A mac address and ip showed in the advanced section. It was an opened router for everyone to connect. It happens sometimes at starbucks too. I am currently with the 1.66 rom and 2.5 manilla. Is there a way to fix this??
Thanks.

Are you sure it's free? Some places provide a pay per use, you can connect and load a specific web page (and only that page), put in your payment information and then get the rest of the internet.

Hi
In Mc Donal
it free: confirmed
But because the wireless network free for everyone so many connection to the router; The router if setting for limited user; after time (like your problem) new device can connect to the network but can not play with the network.
What you can do is, ask for Mc Donal staff there to reset the router and everything will be fine.
Your HD2 had noproblem; ^^

Internet on the hotel

Hello,
I have a quick but maybe not so easy question.
I am here at a hotel. I can connect to the hotel free public network. but for some reason i can't see the opeening page of the hotel. They use a redirecting page where you have to fill in the user numerber and password.
With my laptop it is no problem.
So the problem is: I can connect to the wifi network, but i don't see the redirecting page.
Just for the record, at home i've been already on the internet with my HD.

what happens when you turn on the wifi on your hd? does it find the network and can you connect?
I can connect to the network, but if try to reach the internet i won't work.
With my laptop it works.
Opera or IE?
or both?
maybe try putting in the page address that your laptop gets redirected to, directly into the HD?
it happens with both of them.
i also tried the direct ipadress but that didn't work also.
is there some ping or ipconfig option in the HD?
Is the WiFi adapter using "Internet" and not "Work"?
Search for vxIPconfig - software from Cambridge that is useful for IP troubleshooting.
with the tool everything looks ok.
Ip adress 10.59.2.132
subnet mask 255.255.252.0
default gateway 10.59.1.1
DHCP server 10.59.1.1
Primary WINS: blank
Secondary WINS: blank
Lease optained: date, time ->ok
Lease expires: date, time+5min -> ok
everything seems to be all right, don't they.
Did one of u guys already connected to susch a network in a hotel or airport where you first being redirected to a login page?
what did i do wrong?
Same problem
Hi, I have same problem in my work. At my home, I can work with my wifi, everything is perfect, but in my work, we are using redirect to page, where I have to fill my username a pass. Wifi on my work is connected, but no page is displayed.....
Thanks for any solution....
exactly what i mean
Try changing the "User Agent". Look around in the forum how to do that.
Also make sure you have "best performance" selected for wifi.
i just switched it to best performance and now it works!
Just explain how can that be?
'Best performance' basically means that your wifi connection is allowed to use more power. This increases it's functionality (so a wider range, better reception, higher speeds etc.) yet decreases battery life.
I don't know the exact facts concerning battery drain vs. performance, but this is what i've noticed when using the HD.. so it's an educated guess.
When I read the TS I immediatly thought of another thing that might be the solution for problems with wifi business networks: certificates. In order to get my own HD working wireless at work, I had to install something like the 'SecureW2' certificate.

Don't seem to be able to connect to the internet or exchange server via WiFi.

wifi on hero worked perfectly for me. The problem must be unique to your phone/config.
If you try to go to an Orange bookmarked site then it errors - these are the free pages on Orange, which rely on an Orange connection.
Other than that I can browse the web over WiFi just fine.
Vince
Cheers, will factory reboot tonightand try again.

Yes I noticed that. Pretty sloppy from Orange that. There should be a 'what if' type proxy situation for wifi vs gprs/hsdpa.
But do we expect any less, they are only a phone provider FFS!
OK, have factory reset, still no internet access through wifi, any ideas ? ?
Do you get any wifi's coming up when you go to wireless controls -> Wifi settings?
if not, are you sure your router is set to discoverable?
I get a connection to the router and its shows on the hero as connected but all applications just say I have no network connection. Flick the wifi off then all back to normal :-(

Sounds like an addressing issue to me. There is no static ip definition on the mobile is there? Or possibly a dns config issue.
Sounds like osi layers 1+2 (ish) are working but layer 3>failing.
It's not a layer 8 issue is it?

Have you just tried that 1 wifi spot? Try another and determine whether it is just the phone, or the connection between your router and your phone.

I definitely think you should try it out on another access point just because I have seen issues like this in the past where a device and router just haven't got on. Obviously this isn't a "solution" but if you have difficulty elsewhere, it probably points to an issue with the device itself.
Another thing you may like to try is manually changing the channel for your WiFi network - again, I've had issues like this in the past when a particular device has real trouble when the WiFi was set to certain channels.
Regards,
Dave
How ironic, orange hero, with orange livebox on orange internet DON'T WORK !
Swapped to a Belkin N router, connects to wireless and all works fine
One less issue with the Hero
Thanks everyone

at home wifi internet connection problems...

Alright alright shoot me if this has already been asked or mentioned or thought of by anyone here or any one who you ever knew. I've been searching the entire net, the XDA forums have nothin on the subject (the the search function and i arent seeing eye to eye.).
My problem is this,
I am at home, connecting to my router, and that connects fine. But i am not connected to the internet. On my PC there is an option if i want to connect to the network, and then the internet. But in the HD2, there is no option to connect, Im only connecting ot the network, but not internet access.
went to a buddys house, he got his wi fi up and running in a matter of seconds, he did exactly as i have done, located the connection, typed the pass, and that was that.
but i cannot even find a place that asks me for an internect connection after i have connected to the network, nothing there.
And i cannot find any help on this subject.
i hope you get me if not, then dont bother. i am tired of reading mountains of crap that has nothing to do with my problem.
thanks in advance
appologies for my tone, just a little frustrated right now.
ah, btw, my 3g connect works fine. just not the wifi.
Once the network is connected there's nothing more to do to get internet access. At home, does it take a long time for the HD2 to connect to the network (arrows moving on the wifi icon more than ~5secs)? If you co to connection manager -> wifi -> advanced -> advanced tab, what IP do you have?
Well it connects to 'alice-wlan' really quickly, and automatically.
but there is still no internet connection. i think its a router setting problem, because on my pc i also have to connect first to alice.wlan (does it autoimatically) but then i have to manually connect to the internet (broadband)... i do not knwo how to change this.
i dont know what IP i have, you mean as a router?
correction,
now it connects to the router quite slow, if it does at all, then drops it almost immediatly.

that makes me think you are using the old style routers that don't hold the broadband always open. meaning either the router or the pc need to dial the adsl. usually you put the connection details into the router and it handles it,,
just thinking out loud.
Hmm actually now you say that I've been at someone's place recently where they had an ADSL plan that was time-billed, so they had to open a browser and login before being able to access the web...

Could you please say what you have to do for this?
it says 0.0.0.0 hmmm i dont know if that right tho
Wait until the arrows stop moving on the wifi icon, and it whould then say something more relevant.
still nothing, 0.0.0.0 ...

well, in win7 i alice connects automatically, then theres a broadband (internet) tab, i click on that, and it runs the use/pass and connects.

HTC HD2 & WiFi

HI, I recently purchased a HD2 and have been very impressed with it.
I have been scouring the internet for upgrades/tips/customisations etc and here seems to be the place to be.
Now I have Opera 10 and Opera 9.7 installed(Default)
I followed all the instructions to be able to watch BBC iPlayer to the letter.
I ofcourse got the "you need to be connected via WiFi to watch" message, so I promptly booted up my WiFi on the phone and connected to my home router.
As I did this, as per usual it connected fine with full signal strength. The only problem being that once connected I cannot access the internet via either browser on my phone, and worse, none of my machines connected to the router(via ethernet or WiFi).
In essence it completely shuts my router out, I have to turn my WiFi off on the phone, then turn the router off and on again just to get connection back for my computers.
It is most definitely the phone connecting causing the issue, since it only happens when I try to connect the phone to the router. It also only started when I changed the "opera:config" settings for BBC iPlayer.
I am at my wits end with it and really, really dont want to have to do a hard reset and lose all my new contacts/photo's/app's etc.
Any help is appreciated!

Before I post my reply I would just like to say, I think its great to still see active development and mature forums with timely and accurate responses.
Demon_man, you sir, are a legend. I had actually read that thread but discontinued halfway down due to a poster explaining they could still gain access to their hub.
In essence, it appears when I started using my Leo as a WiFi Hub it took on the default 192.168.1.1 IP as a static(which I assume was to emulate a router). Once I discontinued using it in that way both my router and phone had been assigned to same IP address, essentially cutting my router off when I connected my phone.
I have reset the adapters to get the IP from server in future.
I also already had the iPlayer tweak in place, but thanks for the link.
Many thanks again for such a speedy response.

[Q] Can't access Google (or Yahoo) using my browsers

Acer A501 - not rooted. Using either browser (chrome or dolphin) can't get to a search site. I can get to microsoft.com so I know the browsers are working but neither will access the search engines.
I can get to Google Play and my email works fine.
Any suggestion??
Rog
Have you tried to do it using Wifi connection? Or 3g only?
Maybe your provider is blocking something. Try different provider/wifi network.
my suspicion is that Google and Yahoo are trying to offer to use IPv6 and your connection can't handle it.

I don't think that's the issue as my internet connection provider doesn't provide IPv6 yet and my tab connects to google using IPv4 and the fact that the DNS query for google.com returns both IP4 and IP6 addresses is not an issue.
Of course it could be the other way around. RogerCurrier's provider may support IPv6 but there can be some connectivity issues between both AS (authonomous systems) networks over IPv6. But still I don't believe that this is really an issue in this case.
Thanks for your suggestions..
I think i am getting somewhere, previously I have been using the wireless connection. Turned off the router and using 3gl I can connect to Google etc. So it seems that the problem is with the wireless connection.
Turned the router off for an hour, rebooted the Android- No difference, still can't connect to Google etc, and other connections seem slow. Have another pc using XP and it connects to Google no problem using the same router.
Checked connection with the following report: Status connected, security WPA/WPA2 PSK, Signal strength Excellent, link speed 65Mpbs, IPAddress 10.1.1.
Are there any other settings I should be aware of?
To find out which device is the source of the problem (tablet or router) it would be best if you could try another wifi connection (for example in your friend's house or some hot spot). That would show if the problem is only when you connecting to your or to any wifi connection.
Yes, I was coming to that conclusion, will try the library tomorrow. Thanks, will keep you informed.
Rog
Just checked the Amstrad in the local library. It connected to Google no problems so the problem is with the router. It looks like i will have to try another forum. Thanks everyone for their help. Long live the Android.
Rog:fingers-crossed:

Solved the problem after many hours of struggle. Made my network address static instead of dynamic. Made all the difference, quite happy now, hours to Google etc. Can't see why it should make a difference but it does.
Thanks for everyone's help and assistance.
