I know the latest marketplace update allows you to install apps to the storage card, rather than the phone.
I do like to try new roms now and again, and it is a pain having to download all the apps again. If I install apps to my storage card, will they automatically be picked up by the phone again once new rom installed(without having to re-download)?

Just curious....certain software install directly to my phone memory & i'm running out of memory now e.though my SD have 4GB. is there any s.ware out there which can force the software installation to SD instead of phone memory.....
That's weird. Do you have a cooked ROM?
Normally it should ask you where you want to install...

Well, there are certain software do not ask. And there are certain software that do not work when installed on the SD.
Well then, if there are programs that won't work from the SD...why would you want to force the install there ?
You can install everything on the SD. The apps that need to be installed on the main memory will either display a message for you, or install directly to the memory.
SKTools has an option for moving an application from main memory to SD or from SD to main mem, although I have never tested it.
where is it? can tell me?
Hi first post...new phone.....great product, I love it......to get to the point, I have down loaded a couple of simple apps from the in-house market place, the second one "i spy wifi" wouldnt complete because "quote" ...reqs newer version microsoftR.net compact framework, this wouldnt download because I dont have enough free space, even though there is a 4 gb micro card with loads of room.........how do i get things onto the card storage?.......can I put a 16gb card in place of the 4 ?
cheers
Yes you can use 16gb card, normally when you install an app, it give you the option to install on device memory or Storage Card. I install everything on the the Storage Card and I've got a rude amount of apps installed .
Hi, do watch the cache in the main storage - this can fill up.
And, when you install apps from the Market Place it seems these automatically go to main storage and there is no option to install to storage card.
I'm using a 16 gb card with no problems.
thanks for the reply, not noticed an option offered for phone/card storage...will look for it next time....cheers..........
Just to follow on from this can all cabs and apps be downloaded on the card rather than the device? For instance I have cabs for home page transparencies and max manila, text removal on home page etc. Also cab games, official hot fixes, clocks, market place apps as well. And these are ALL on t he device.
Are there certain apps or items that MUST go on the device or can everything go on the card?

Anyone?
Pretty much everything can go on the card.
but I cannot seem to move anything onto my card, am I missing something ?
Just use file explorer to move the cabs to your storage card. Once you have installed cab's you can do what you want with them, move or delete them. When installing them it will prompt to install on the device or storage card. Choose storage card.
I always install to the storage card but when you install using Market Place it doesn't give you the option it just installs to the device. Does anyone know if this can be changed or if the cab files is stored somewhere so that you can uninstall from device and install on the card??
As far as I know, isn't possible to choose a different location when installing from Marketplace. However, is possible to move the applications from the phone memory to the SD card. To do that you have to use this app. Although there are some applications that you must install in the phone memory.
Many thanks, I will give it a go. I already have SK Tools do you know if that has a similar feature as I've not quite got to grips with everything it can do?
As the title says, marketplace is eating up all of my ROM.
Is there any way to make windows marketplace download to the SD card instead of the phone ROM?
nope. utilities like pocket mechanic can move installed programs from memory to sd card, bbut I've not done it myself with a market place app.

Marketplace has a forum on the web (don't remember the url) but I read there that they are working on giving the option of where to install, as well as the ability to remove those that you have installed in the past but no longer want to install them in the future, like when you do a rom upgrade, that way you can choose install all and not end up installing demos of products you have purchased, or those you don't want.
Just picked this up yesterday for tmo usa. DOes anybody have trouble installing apps from marketplace? It hangs when its nearly finished installing
i actually noticed that with installing icq earlier in the day. i rebooted the phone for whatever reason, forgetting that the installation had, in fact, hung. to my surprise, though, icq DID in fact install and works fine. i haven't installed anything else via the marketplace, though...
Go to the remove apps section, remove market place then restart it from start menu and it will reinstall the latest version. Some people have had issues with it. The latest version allows you to install to storage card as well.
so i heard that when we d/l from the windows marketplace from our phone.. it cannot be saved on the sd card... is this correct? and if soo.. is there a work around?? because usually i like to keep the unnecessary apps on my card
I downloaded mine from Marketplace and it has an option under menu to save and install to sd card.
Ever since KitKat some of the Apps I've downloaded from Google Play have installed to my SD card by themselves and then are unable to run. I'll have the icon listed on the screen, but when I try to run it it will say "Unfortunately, com.edc.nyc has stopped" for example. I go and look at the app in Applicaton Manager and it's listed as being on the SD card and even though I never moved it there, it installed there. When I try to move it to Device Storage it gives me the same error. This has happened with multiple apps that I have never installed installed on the SD card before kitkat. It's like something has decided to install them to the SD card instead of Device Memory, but they won't run anyway. I uninstall them, clean things up, reboot, and try to install them again and then it installs them to again to SD and they fail to run. Any ideas what would be causing this and how to fix it? My Note's not rooted or anything.

Leave the SD card out and try installing the apps.

Thank you! That worked! It's weird it started doing this all of a sudden though. Are apps allowed to pick and choose where they are installed like that though or would Android be routing the file to the SD? It looks like the apps actually installed on the SD card too which I thought Kitkat was supposed to prevent?
