Battery drain - Touch HD - Touch HD General

Hi,
I have XannyTECH rom installed Xtrom Leo 2.6 WWE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565290
And radio version 1.17.25.09.
I am concerned that I am charging it constantly - every night I plug it into my AC charger. During the day I have it plugged into my laptop to recharge.
If I don't it will defintely run out daily.
I use the phone WIFI now and again daily for facebook, email etc.
I have data settings all to off.
I have power settings for screen dimming at 30 seconds, off after 1 min on battery and 1min dim on AC and 2 mins off on AC.
Does it look like my battery is on it's way out?
I have tbattery installed as default and can log the battery, although I do not know what I am looking at.
I always close applications after use via task manager.
Any help/thoughts appreciated - is this normal for Touch HD?
If it is a case of the ROM could be improved for better battery drain then I will change.
Thanks

Hi,
i've used many coocked ROMs, but everytime i wen't back to the original ROM's from HTC because of battery drain.
Then I read somewhere that when you use radio 1.17.25.09, you have to use Rilphone 1.15.25.14.cab.
I flashed BlackStonehenge with radio 1.17.25.09 but without Rilphone 1.15.25.14.cab
-> battery drain
Then I flashed BlackStonehenge with radio 1.17.25.09 and installed Rilphone 1.15.25.14.cab
-> no more battery drain!
Search the forum for 1.15.25.14.cab
It works perfect for me!
It's on the Wiki-page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466274

My phone lasts about 3-4 days with moderate use (which is more than you seem to be using yours based on your description). I recharge when it hits 15-20%. I'd say maybe you need a new battery, if you have already tried different radios.

I tried Rilphone 1.15.25.14.cab as an experiment and it ended up causing problems, phone hanging and not responding etc.
I have reflashed with various roms and some are draining quicker than other. I have gone back to Xtrom Leo 2.6 WWE and the battery seems to be lasting longer although I am charging it every night.
It is 38% now - 8 hours after being uplugged. Today's usage has been about 10 minutes phonecall and about 15 minutes WIFI this morning listening to Radio 1.
I've disabled 3G and always turn WIFI off etc.
I'll order a new battery and try it out, it wouldn't hurt to have a spare anyway

U better try Topix ROM with Radio 1.17.25.09....

Now using this:
- kwbr topix 3.6 WWE
- OS version 5.2.21901 (21901.5.0.92)
- Manilla 2.5.20121225.0
- Radio 1.17.25.09
with Rilphone1.15.25.14
This gave me again batterydrain!!!
Then I installed MMTaskManager1.8.100421
and made sure only these processes are running:
- nk.exe
- filesys.exe
- device.exe
- connmgr.exe
- JBlendDaemon.exe
Now no more batterydrain!

Poor Battery Life with WM6.5+Manila 2.5 or bad flashing

Hi guys
Just flashed the EnergyRom of Sept 23 yesterday - after playing with it all day incl the flash yesterday I drained the whole battery but that was kinda normal using WIFI a lot
Well I charged it last night and after it finished I switched off cos i dont use my mobile at night - now my phone has been on for nearly 12 hours only and merely used it to send a couple sms but its already on 60%
Is this due to the WM6.5 + Manila 2.5 combo cos its heavy on the RAM or did I do something wrong wen flashing?
I did hard reset twice before using the ROM - maybe nother hard reset will help? Any suggestion
Cheers
TC,
What else is running in the background? Is bluetooth constantly turned on? Is Wi-Fi constantly turned on? What mode are you in, 3G, GSM, etc? What is your screen brightness setting? Is it on auto, or do you have the brightness on manual?
How long before your screen turns off? How long before the backlight dimms? What applications have you installed?
A lot of factors come into play when you talk about battery life.
Cheers.

Hi,
I have no programs running in the background and have only installed two games and clean ram app
All connections (bluetooth, beam, wifi etc) are off
Im in 3G mode but its currently connected to EDGE (on duttys 3.9 ROM it was like this and sometimes i would find my phone connected to E and sometimes to 3G)
Brightness is on manual and more or less 4/10s of the brightness (my phone has been in standby a lot today)
I manually put the phone in standby when Im done using my phone
I use "clean ram program" sometimes (not today) after extensive use like WIFI and Games and my RAM is currently at around 60% and battery life fell by another 5%
And which ROM is it? I used the latest Energy 6.5 ROM for a bit and it was very heavy on the battery. Using 40-50% of the battery during the day. And that was with no WiFi or Bluetooth. Was just using the phone/text and a wee bit of email/web.
Cheers

The guy who makes the EnergyRom put in previous versions, that it's a Ferrari rom, meaning it's fast but burns through a lot of gas (battery life). I used a rom from him as well, and it ran great, but my battery life was crap. I then decided to flash Dutty's latest rom about a couple of weeks ago, and it's been running great, AND has great battery life.
ah ic - I saw it had great performance but didnt notice that it was heavy on the battery
it is his latest ROM - thanks for the feedback
Also now using Dutty's latest ROM. Only issue is Home button doesn't really do much. Otherwise fantastic.
Cheers

From 90% I am down to 20% by 1700h. I carry an extra battery around everywhere now since upgrading to WM6.5

Extreme battery usage with non-official ROMs

Hi *.
Two days ago I've installed HSPL and flashed with Dutty's ROM 0.3a. During installation of programs, I've noticed extreme battery usage. 1% every one minute or less! It was almost impossible to fully charge phone.
CPU usage was at minimum level, 0% for most of the time. So I did hard reset but even clean ROM act the same. Today I've tried two other ROMs: Miri's v2.0 [Sense 2.5] and Artemis' v2.1 - same thing.
Quick decision - back to official ROM [1.48 WWE]. It helped. Now 1% of battery, with screen turned on, lasts for about 10 minutes.
Any idea what might causing this? I don't want to be stuck with official ROMs
Possible the radio.
If I remember correctly, Dutty's rom comes bundled with the radio 2.06. So you might want to try flashing another radio from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
I'm pretty sure that's the culprit. Good luck man.
Didn't help. I've flashed Dutty's ROM again, than Radio 2.05.51.05_2 from 1.48. Battery drops 1% every 2 minutes (3G without data connection).
had the same with that ROM, using radio 2.06.
could't find why. definitely not all cooked ROMs are battery eaters. there are several, but 2 i remember that are nice for your battery are energyrom and of course miri's
try one of those and report back if it's better
I have XannyTechs ROM on my HD2 and I think the battery life is very good, even better than when I had stock ROM.
I have been using Dutty's ROMs since his first release... No battery problems whatsoever.. Actually i have seen an increase in battery-time compared to the stock 1.48... Remember to flash a stock ROM in between your cooked ROM flashes... It keeps the device clean from unused and unnecessary garbage.. More over i also hardreset after each flash... I have seen no problems with this procedure....
BTW. I have the 2.06 radio... No battery problems

You cant just flash one radio then give up. You should try all of them, give each radio a couple days to see its performance.
Correct, plus you have to do some charge/discharge cycles for your battery to better adapt with your newly flashed ROM.
After flashing a custom ROM, don't remove it immediately but do a full charge, let it discharge let's say till 10% then do it again, and also when fully charging let the phone for at least 10-12 hrs in charge although the light has become green.

if the battery drains are huge and strange, use mtty.
Im running Dutty's original ROM and its improved my battery life greatly. It shuts down the WIFI etc when the sceen is blanked out and instead of draining battery 30-40%, my battery drains about 8-9% over a 10 hour period. (Without bluetooth enabled)
I have nothing but praise for the ROM i am running atm my phone is better than out the box by factor 10.

It's quite hard to give each radio couple of days. Phone lasts less than two hours without charging. Became kinda stationary. I've tried all radios (with Dutty's ROM) with 1 batery cycle for each, same thing.
Yesterday I've again flashed original 1.48 and then ROM which doesn't update Radio - Artemis ver 2.3, and... still the same story :/ So looks like it's not radio-related problem. Maybe something with HSPL? Could it be a reason?

I don't get it, what changing ROM has to do with forming battery - something you do after buying a phone? Mine HD2 is 2 months old. Nevertheless since yesterday, after flashing Artemis' ROM, phone was fully charged, discharged during night and plugged again at the morning. Didn't help.
Another thing is, where this energy goes to? Doesn't look like radio problem, CPU stays with minimum usage.

do u switch it on sometime? lol
really 5 days? and what do u do in those 5 days? i mean how u use phone...just for call...navigate...watch movie (i watch a lot of moovie in freeworktime ) listen music? just to understand...
im using tom 1.1 and has a not very good battery usage but i keep all automatic updates all the day,100% backlight level...honestly i never tryed to empty all battery with this rom but ill try today watching some movie and tomtom for hours in car...ill let u know a report
ok i stressed a lot my phone this afternoon
14.30 100% battery
Facebook,weather autoupdates every 1 hour
max backlight,always connected to 3g
browsing for 30 min
tcpm movie playback about 125 min
10 min of tom tom and other 30 in background under tcpm
15 min calls
now at 18.42 still have 8% battery
running tom 1.1
I've done some test. Because HSPL was always present in flashing non-official ROMs, I tried SSPL and two ROMs - Laurentius26 v2 and Dutty's v0.3a. Each time flashing official 1.48 before, to restore proper battery usage. Same thing :/ Seconds after new ROMs were booted battery started to drop immediately.
So it's not related to SSPL/HSPL. There must be something inside all those ROMs [Dutty's, Laurentius26, Artemis', Miri's] what's causing problem. But what? Any ideas? Please.
p.s.
Dutty's ROM (with HSPL) was in phone for almost 48h, nothing changed in battery life during this time.
Following makeveral's advice, I've tried MTTY. Quick 1.48 flash to clear everything, next HSPL, than MMTY and finally Artemis' ROM v2.5 from SD card. And guess what, same sh*t Battery drops 1% every 2 minutes or less, CPU usage around 0%.
Output from MTTY:
Cmd>set 14 0
crc=0xD2C8DA7F.
HTCST ÚČŇHTCE
Cmd>task 29
Format BINFS start
Fill RSVD information for block 497 to 530

Have you tried to replace the battery? Very probable that you got a faulty one.
1.66 stock
I had same issue with Cooked roms, So decided to upgrade to stcok rom.
6:00
100% battery
40-50 calls,
15 mins of internet browsing.
30 mins 0f tweet.
Automated (15 mins whether update, 1 hr mail, 1hr tweet)
16:00
battery 76%
19:00
Battery 70%
2hrs of Music Battery 43%
And at 22:00
37%
I suffer from the same issue, though not as bad as you. My drain is about 5% an idle hour on a custom ROM instead of the more normal 1%. Hope you find something, I will be looking also.
Did you try this little app?

Horrible Battery Life TMOUS

I just recently got a HD2 and I flashed it with Energy ROM April 18 23559 With Cookie Tab and Radio 2.08.50.08
I have all the battery settings in Advance config on, all autoupdates are off, and gmail syncing every 10 minutes with autodisconnect in 10 seconds.
The reason I need some help is because my battery is literally going down multiple percentages within 5 minutes using EDGE. Is there any way to fix this? Its been about 2 hours with mainly texting and my battery is at 68 percent.
Edit: Also even when i have no programs running my internet likes to just start running for no reason, is there a program that shows the internet usage?
do you have tried tmous radio rom 2.07 with 576mb enabled? for me it was a huge difference in battery drain compared to 2.08... 2.07 was nearly perfect for me but like on 2.08 i have bad call quality. that's why i'm testing tmous 2.10 since today.

How is the battery life now?

I started messing about with the android builds when they first started to appear and the only thing that stopped me using it as a daily rom was the battery life.
I have been away from the forum for about a couple of months or so and was just wondering what the state of play is now with regards to battery life on the new roms?
Cheers
Well, mine lasts at least about one day and a half with moderate use.
With moderate use I mean making calls about 20 minutes, surfing the internet for about an hour, downloading apps, texting and gaming at least 1 or 2 hours.
When I get home in the evenings I have about 40% left.
My data connection is always enabled.
I never used apps like Juice Defender or something else.
I just have SetCPU und some profiles enabled. Nothing more.
I can get through the day with a decent amount of battery life. I listen to about 20 minutes of mp3's and check xda many times then stream pandora on the way home and I have about 57 percent left and I started my day 5:30am this morning and its now 3:19pm
Its my daily driver as I cant find a point where I need to panic and throw my reserve battery's in even though I have them just incase.
I use shubcraft 1.5 with setcpu settings and data always on.
Well I am still bashing my head against the wall when it comes to battery life. I've tried different builds, settings, registry changes and it just drains away.
Went to bed at 5.40am this morning (after falling asleep on the sofe ) with battery 100%, woke up at 8.45am and battery was down to 77%!
23% in 3hrs in stand by. It does my head in.
Like others its this that stops me from using daily builds.

Have you used current widget to see what your milli amps usage is during sleep mode.
Also are you using setcpu and setting profiles for screen off
I've gotten pretty good battery life 1.5-2 days with moderate use. I'm using Miri's elegancia WINMO rom + Shubcraft 1.5 + SetCPU. I noticed android drains tremedously less battery life on standby when Exceller Multiple Build Loader is used to launch Shubcraft by default set at 3 seconds. I use this setup daily and it drains even less battery then running the WINMO builds i've experienced.
All percents are per hour.
I drain about %1 in standby. (Usually 5-7mA in currentwidget)
I loose around %10 in normal usage when screen is on. (around 140mA with %40 backlight) If I turn on brightness to %100 and use wifi tether it goes up to around %20.
Standby current should never be above 10mA. If you get 60mA then you have high standby drain bug. Try new lights.so file or keep your gps turned of even if you don't use it.
New kernels with new builds don't have the 60mA bug even if you don't turn off gps, or don't keep the lights turned on while booting haret/android.
For people who have high drain:
-Try changing your sd card
-Use a newer evo based kernel/newer build
-update your lights.so file with a new version from gauner1986
-try booting android with keypad lights turned on while you launch haret.
-disable gps
User currentwidget to check your drain in 1 minute interval. Should be between 5-11 in standby. Must not be 60mA in standby.

I believe I have that bug. Only issue for me is this. There are times when I do run android and I draw 5ma in stand by mode, however whenever this is the case I get SOD. If my phone is drawing 60ma in standby mode my phone works just fine with no SOD. So for me its kind of a lose/lose situation. I'm not sure what to do.
My setup:
Miris GTX 2.5
chiasofts moomoo mattc evo 1.01
michyprimas evo r0 kernal
Mine used to draid about 60mA in standby, but updating my lights.so file and keeping the GPS off when I'm not using it bumps it dow to the 3-5mA range. This was the case at least when I used Shubcraft1.5. A lot of the newer kernels have the updated lights.so file already though
How do I update light.so ? may somebody post a link where to find it and how to install it?
I love Android on my HD2 but this Drain bug is reallx kinda annoying when you loose 9% per hour only in standby...
i've got sick usage too..
it drains in about 6 hours standby and 2 hours when screen is on..
i have NRGZ's 28 august energyrom with 2.07.50 radio and mattc's android.. i think i'm gonna update my android and hope it will be better..
I am using the Energy Cookie ROM with Froyostone 3.1 build and the new 2.15 radio. Only using 6-7mA in standby so no problem now to last a couple of days on light use. Call and signal quality is better for me vs. 2.14 radio using a TMOUS phone in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is also unlocked if that makes a difference. Seems to use much less than the standard WM OS. The Android 2.2 is my daily OS now.

Battery Drain compare between Pdaimatejam Rom7.1 and Ultrafruit?

I am using Pdaimatejam 6.5 and the battery drain very fast, using focus+powersaving mode is better but limiting the usage of the phone. Hesitating to try to flash ROM without my battery drian improvement, is there any expereince you guys can share? appreciate the feedback!
Im using 7.1 ,its my First WP7 Rom (coming from android)
I have to say the drainage is extreme.
I started playing fruit ninja at 66% nearly 45 minutes later I am down to 2% is this normal?
It seems that even in standby it looses power very quickly.
thanks, did you try to use the 5.51 version radio? the v7.1 coming with 5.71 radio. and your HD2 is TMobile or HTC version?
did some test by myself yesterday, flash V7.1 with 5.51 radio (instead of out-of-box 5.71), wifi off, data on, gps off, 8.5 hours stand by consume 32% of my battery, and stand by current is around -40mHA.
I am using HTC version HD2
i find that most of the time very high battery usage is down to the battery not being charged, it has a habbit of reporting the wrong level of power, for instance, you think its full, and its only 60%, or it might show 1% and its actually 80% full yet the OS still wants to shut down
my advice is to charge, unplug, charge and restart it a few times

you must use one of this combination for better battery life:
radio's: 2.12/5.51 or 2.15/5.51 + camera trick... i have with 2.15/5.51 30-40 hours i normal use...
in default, Pdaimatejam ROM 8107 v7.1 come with radio 5.71 and with that battery life is 8 hours for me....

thanks for the sharing, I have done my test both V7.1 and Ultraruit as well, same result as you:
1. V7.1 with 5.71 radio, stand by current is ~40mHA, focus trick does not work.
2. Ultrafruit, similar current as v7.1(5.71 radio)
3. V7.1 with 5.51 radio, with data, wifi, gps all off; power saving mode on, with focus trick, the stand by currrent is 7-9mHA.
Just curious what kind of magic those users who having data on with low power consumption..LOL
